Legato

On skin, this starts out as straight up vanilla extract to my nose. As such, its a little boozy. The dry down feel a little more nuanced. It has possibilities but It's not likely to be something I'd reach for. Edit: I have been testing this again. I think the vanilla extract I was getting is probably just the rum/vanilla combo. But the last two times I tested this I smelled caramel in the top notes. It didn't last long and settled into sort of a warm sugar nuance. I'm not a gourmand girl, but this is growing on me. It's a little sweet but not too sweet. Now I get a little of the cherry also. I tried it this morning with Sorce Fuckery on one arm and this on the other. The former is very cherry forward by comparison. But Legato is reading smooth - like its name. I'll keep testing this and see where it goes. I've nothing like this in my collection.

Firstly, I should politely thank the kind staff at Miller Harris UK for sending me a complimentary sample of Legato, which was, I believe, also sent to everyone on their mailing list who (like me) has purchased from them directly before. Anyway, my sample of Legato opens with a strong, boozy rum accord, accompanied by a subtle, barely noticeable hint of cherry in the background after applying it to the back of my left hand and wrist. The boozy opening soon evolves into the heart notes of a lovely, sweet, creamy vanilla, accompanied by distinctive supporting notes of caramel, amber, sandalwood, spicy facets, and plum, which I wish lasted longer than it does. After a couple of hours, the booziness intensifies once again as the fragrance progresses into a relatively drier, whisky/bourbon and muskier accord, still with a slight hint of vanilla in the background, which persists throughout the final dry-down before gradually fading. There is some fascinating information accompanying this fragrance on the new Miller Harris Legato webpage (obtained through the email I received from Miller Harris UK promoting Legato), provided by the French perfumer Mathieu Nardin, which describes his choice of unique ingredients used to create Legato. You would have to be subscribed to Miller Harris emails to see this, though. This webpage also describes this new fragrance as Vanilla gourmand. I agree with that description to a degree, as the heart notes remind me somewhat of a rich, decadent, handmade, spicy vanilla cake. Overall, Legato is a pleasant addition to the Miller Harris family of fragrances. It leans mature and unisex, with a slight feminine edge and lasts around 7 hours on my skin from start to finish. However, others may disagree, as my view is entirely subjective. I have, though, already ordered a 100ml bottle directly from Miller Harris UK, as it is definitely full-bottle-worthy.

A boozy & sexy plum. Like plum wine with some vanillac spices. I don’t get much cherry. The dry down is the best part by far. So warm and intoxicating!

A buttery vanilla with a nuance of cherry, that is well-balanced and doesn't smell overtly like cherry syrup. It's to my liking, but definitely not one I could get a full bottle of without my family member disapproving. Old Miller Harris perfumes are a miss for me, but some of their newer releases are good. This was my favourite in a set of 3 samples I had ordered. However, with the sandalwood it almost has a lactonic quality with the tart fruit, probably resembling Tobacco Volute the most, or Bois Doré. Not completely unique enough but pleasant. *Edit* I tried wearing this again for a few days but in the drydown it smells like playdoh and could make me nauseous if I bought a full bottle.

Interesting notes and I'm keen to sample 'Orcanox'................. maybe I will seek this one out.....
