Oud Éclat

I'm a devotee of Miller Harris: Feuille de Tabac is my signature scent (absolutely gorgeous), and so I was very excited to receive a sample of Oud Éclat. I wasn't disappointed. This isn't what I'd call an 'in-your-face' oud frag - it's much more subtle than that. In fact my initial thought was that it smelt like bonfire toffee (in a good way)! So, off the bat you get a delicious mix of subtle oud, smoke, brown sugar and cashmere wood. For me, the drydown accentuated the presence of the nutmeg and balsam fir with maybe the slightest hint of leather. Whatever though, from start to finish this is a beautiful and sophisticated scent that I would say leans more the the masculine but will likely draw compliments regardless of who is wearing it. It doesn't strike me as a young person's frag, however. With one or two notable exceptions (Hidden on the Rooftops, for example) I don't find that Miller Harris fragrances project massively unless you go heavy on the initial sprays. That said, I think the level of projection here with Oud Éclat is just about spot on. Having tried the sample, will I be buying a full size bottle? You bet!

Testing Oud Eclat from a 2 ml Miller Harris official sample. I am not saying this is just another dupe of, but it is very much like BR540, as other people mentioned. It’s difficult not to notice the similarities in my opinion. The note structure might look a bit dissimilar but the scent overall has the same airy, sugary sweet, slightly resinous smell like BR540. Whether you want to splurge on a bottle of that or to get Oud Eclat for so much cheaper and more juice, it’s going to be in the end up to one’s preference. Or you can just buy one of those clones. But Oud Eclat smells way smoother and more expensive than the Middle Eastern dupes in my opinion. I have a few of them and I prefer Miller Harris’s variation on the very popular DNA. If you love BR540, this is a no brainier and a very safe blind buy even. Totally unisex. Very underrated, like most of Miller Harris perfumes! Personally I cannot comment on the similarities with Oud for Greatness because I never tried that, but it might have something similar with Initio’s take as well.

I bought a set with a 10ml of this and lasted two years before I purchased a full bottle. It was like a long distance lover; I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The comparisons to BR540 are merited and not...the similarities are undeniable, but this is not an Instagram influencer frag. There’s no saffron, and the sugary ambrette is airier, less cloying. A handsome gent wearing a cable-knit sweater at Christmastime (hello balsam fir). A silky sophistication closer to MFK’s Oud Satin Mood, rather than its whiny-yet-shiny younger sister. Sexy, slinky, spicy. Big love.

I think this is a wonderful fragrance for fall and winter. It reminds me of that cozy feeling by the fireplace, a cup of warm, sweet and spicy drink, and the slight hint of Christmas tree. It makes me feel confident and content. It smells like a bold statement, and I imagine people who wear this would be very stylish and financially comfortable. Due to the warmth it carries, it's a perfect bedtime scent as well. I wish Miller Harris had a smaller bottle of this perfume because I rarely buy 100ml bottles.

I sprayed and I loved it. Was instant. Oud but sugary with a balsamic note. It is strong not in the common "oudy" way the sugar note is really, really strong on me, I only realized because my friend was suffering next to me!! Probably better sprayed in colder weather. Not good on everyone's skin you easily get a "wow, you smell gooood!" but they they might try and hate it.. For this particular reason is a good candidate to become a signature scent - if only I could stop trying other fragrances.

Medicinal oud accord > medicinal cigarette ash > medicinal cigarette ash against penetrating, off-dry, somehow dark-minty or coniferous balsam backdrop. Rustic, gnarly, natural-look wooden ashtray due for emptying. This is not for everyone but I like it. Sillage is average to understated, as is probably appropriate for a scent of some gruffness. Probably masculine, but what the hell? (If you like it, wear it.)

Oud éclat is the perfect name for this. It’s a woody, nutmeg-y, smoky, sweetish oud - not the dirty kind but the resinous, woody kind. I kind of understand the links to BR540 but I think it’s smokier and nicer, almost. I love this, but not for me to wear - I’d love to smell it on my husband. I imagine it would make some people feel quite feral. Big fan, big fan.

yeah, this is a winner.. opening/mid gives me an Almeria (Loumari) vibe, spicy/sweet, and the drydown is an oud/fir/green vibe that makes me think of OFG Neo on steroids, if you will..as soon as I put it on my wife commented 'you smell nice'.. nuff said, methinks! FBW for me, without a doub.t

Fir and Oud combination smells pretty unusual to me and lasts longer, than other MH fragrances this is why I fell in love rapidly. I would definitely buy this one next time

Mix BR540 with Creed Viking and this is what you get.

I’m surprised I like this, as I wouldn’t usually choose anything with fresh spicy or strongly aromatic accords as they tend to lean too masculine for my tastes. I get the comparisons to BR540, it has the same sugary, toasted marshmallow scent, but that’s all I can smell in BR540, in this I can also smell pine and a lot of fresh spice (nutmeg?). BR also is very faint to my nose, although I can smell it on others who have oversprayed. This one is much stronger, and only tiny spray is enough to smell it clearly, although 1 tiny tester spray doesn’t project too far, but over arms length. It’s totally unisex but more masculine than BR540 smells to me (but I can’t smell all the ingredients in that one, hence thinking it smells of just toasted marshmallow, and that I wouldn’t waste my money on it when Cloud smells the same). I’d happily wear this, it’s sweet but with that fresh spicy edge. I am surprised this isn’t more popular and talked about. If it was released by a bigger niche (yet common haha) house then everyone would be all over this.

Oud Eclat does resinous sweet fir in the best way possible. It is very smooth and very well blended with a strong mix of sweetness and woodiness that makes me think of forest nymphs. I wouldn't tarnish this perfumes name with suggestions that it smells like BR540. Baccarat has a saccharin sweet noise that is so over replicated and can be smelled screeching off people everywhere. I can smell the similar notes of sugar and fir but it just isn't the same!

Oud strikes on the first smell then comes fir. After a while it's gets sweeter and more floral retaining that oud earthiness, fir notes become less and less noticable. Leans more towards being masculine. It's a good fragrance with nice projection and longevity.

Based on first brief impressions, she smells a lot like BR540

I'm a fairly big fan of Miller & Harris, loving Lumiere Dorre, Scherzo, La Feuille, and liking Wander through the parks, Lost in the city. This is, as ever, a well crafted and blended fragrance, however it feels a bit too derivative of BK540 to be given a full thumbs up. I get jumping on a bandwagon when there is clearly so much demand for BK540, and this is at a much more affordable price point. I just think they don't need to do it. It's a bit beneath them to do a copy. That said, this is not an exact copy and if you find BK540 too cloying and sweet then give this a whirl, as it is more woody, slightly more spicy and a little more grounded than the ultra luxe BK540. It's great, and I can't knock it, however it lacks originality.

In the beginning it's a nice oud but then It smells like sweet oud and piss.

First spray was pleasant and the notes seemed promising, but once it dries down it gives me straight cigarette. It smells like a table where you accidentally spilled sweet cocktails, with cigar ashes everywhere, and people at a party wearing leather jackets, smoking cigarettes and chewing minty gum. I don’t hate it, but it’s not something I particularly want to smell like. It also has a slight reminiscence of Mixed Emotions by Byredo, perhaps in the smokiness, not really close, just that green, smoky, behind-the-scenes note lingering in the background.

Yes, BR540 mixed with very medicinal woody oud in the opening. Gets sugary and more similar to BR540 as time progresses until the final drydown that becomes closer to Cloud (yes, Cloud) + a bit of leather & medicinal thingy. If Cloud was the BR540's feminine dupe, this would be the more masculine. I am not a fan of this DNA and how it finally turns in the last stage. Hence the dislike.

Sweet oud. That opening quickly gives way to the most photorealistic cigarette accord I’ve ever encountered; not cigar, not pipe, but literal cigarette ash. Unfortunately, it became a scrubber for me before I could explore it in more detail. I was genuinely excited when I saw fir, oakmoss, and cashmere wood listed, but that excitement didn’t last long. To me it smells more tagete ( marigold) and oakmoss. The spicy black pepper and salt leave me a bit bothered. It reminds me of what I smell like when I'm prepping steaks. But it's missing the red wine that I deglaze the pan. I don't want like my dinner...

This one was a scrubber for me, quite sickly. Good sillage and I do smell the comparison to BR540.

Whatever it is that makes Ariana Grande Cloud smell synthetic and plastic-y, this perfume has it too. Not for me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Fille en Aiguilles yet. The juxtaposition of sweetness and coniferous notes make it an awesome alternative to the largely unavailable Lutens' masterpiece. They are very similar imo, with Oud Éclat lasting and projecting even a bit better that FeA. The very opening is the only moment when BR540 comes to mind, thx to maltol I guess. Otherwise, I find this one more mature and introspective, with emphasis on balsamic and incense notes. Very comforting, cosy, classy. Also more masculine than Kurkdjian's offering. I love it!

Woody /slightly smoky very slight though Sweet syrupy cardamom type scent But then I looked at the similar perfumes sections and I see BR540 listed And it hit me Ahh That dry down is BR540 W a slight woody/smokiness to it I wont purchase this tbh Because I noticed I love a lot of scents and moet are similar to BR540 in drydown And its addictive at first but then I get bored of that sickly syrupy scent

Sugar balsam fir... i get that sweet bloody balsam fir comb with no oud in it! and i guess the European style of oud is there with no oud (just a mix of resin & herbs) that made people think it is oud. It has big chunks of sugar, nutmeg, balsam fir, plum, and softens with cashmeran. It's more of a dark sweet with a touch of cloying sugar, and i guess it is on the style of Baccarat Rogue.

Just not my cup of tea: the sugar note is very prominent throughout the fragrance and I don't get any oud. It's not a Baccarat Rouge dupe, but the vibe is the same: feminine, nighttime, sugar-forward, not particularly refined, in-your-face without much complexity, at least on my skin.

70% the same as Baccarat, only this one is more smokey, incensey, balsamic. Especially in the opening. Later it dries down quite sugary-smokey. I like it. But, the one who doesn't love the sugar note should not buy it.

This openings has similarities to BR540 but that’s where it ends. It has dried down to an a aromatic, musky hug. Lovely surprise! The world does not need another Baccarat dupe.

Not BR40. Like a 3rd cousin, maybe. Much more a mix of Oud for Greatness and Ameer Al Oudh. Feels resinous and foresty. Unisex, slightly more male, but unisex.

@Joseph. That’s why you don’t bye any type of fragrance on EBay. It’s all a scam on there. By the 2ml decanted from a legitimate company.
