Soufflot

Sometimes I need to fulfil something very specific to my own scent memories and personal nostalgia. I grew up in a ski village, pretty high up the mountain and my mum was an interior designer for a while, fitting out new build chalets. So I spent alot of time following her around furniture and deco shops. I was shorter at the time, being probably about 7 or 8 years old, and these shops seemed expansive and never ending to me. They would be full from top to bottom with the most beautiful alpine sofas, coffee tables, rugs, bedding, throws, coasters, wall art, faux furs, cowskins, candles, and anything else you could possibly imagine seeing in a chalet in the early 2000s. Despite it not being my style of perfume, sometimes I just really want to smell like a luxury chalet. This is that, in an uncanny way. It smells like browsing one of those shops at my current age, picking up a candle, sniffing it, thinking 'nah not my thing', then sniffing it again, putting it down, coming back over to it, sniffing it again and thinking 'nope, now I can't leave the shop without it' then checking the price and thinking 'yep, I'm leaving the shop without it'. Soufflot is not overly sweet which saves it from being off putting. It's hits the markers of what a chalet feels like too. It's like two things at once, in the foreground it's the candle (nutty, spiced, honeyed but sophisticated) . But it also smells like the rest of the chalet too: warm, cosy, woody (these seem obvious), somewhat leathery (cow and sheep skin rugs), and resinous (like the amber pine sap drops you can find on the walls). Imagery: Candle lit dinner party in chalet, outside it's snowing. Two dads are smoking a cig on the balcony leaving billowing clouds of breath and smoke in the air as they laugh about something or other. Everyone is wearing wool. There's music playing and the fire is lit and it's open plan so you can see the whole scene without moving your head. You walk down wooden stairs, onto a carpeted corridor then into a tiled bathroom (warm underfoot the whole way, thanks to pumping underfloor heating). You sit down to pee, hazy from the mulled wine and génépi you've just enjoyed, and think 'why the hell does it smell so cosy and comforting in here?'. You look around and spot a reed diffuser that from your earlier candle disappointment you just know costs more than what you could get for the beat up fiat panda 4X4 you drove here in.

This is a first impression review based on a 2 ml official sample of Sufflot. Will update later regarding the performance, as the fragrance wears on. But as first impression, scent wise, it’s instant love for me! Sufflot smells literally like gingerbread cookies in the opening. Mouthwatering! A very nuanced nutty, sweet, honeyed tobacco with loads of cinnamon on top. It’s freaking delicious! Perfect for fall season, Sufflot it’s the fragrance equivalent of the ever so popular drink pumpkin spice latte.. Might overthrow Scherzo and become my favourite Miller Harris perfume, if it has a good performance, since it’s such a gourmand scent. They’re my favourite type of scent and this perfume is fall season bottled in my opinion. As it dry down I start to detect some leathery nuances and Peru balsam, it’s drying down less gourmandy but still syrupy sweet than it is in the opening. Feminine for sure, though men who love nutty, warm, resinous, balsamic scents will probably find Sufflot very appealing as well! Trying Sufflot side by side on skin with D&G Devotion Intense and MMM’s By the Fireplace, other two very popular nutty, vanilla based perfumes, I notice the following differences: Compared to By the Fireplace which is way more smoky, woddy and spicy/peppery, Sufflot comes across somewhat softer, sweeter, more feminine and with a very pronounced cinnamon, doughy feel. Not quite similar I’d say... Compared with Devotion Intense, Sufflot is more nutty, amber, warm, heavy on cinnamon, honey and tobacco leaf. Devotion smells more floral, lemony and more saccharine sweet. Very perfumy/artificial, while Sufflot seems less loud and more natural, refined. I can say for sure that I prefer Sufflot over Devotion Intense for autumn season. Edit 8 hours later: Sadly, Sufflot’s performance is not as good as expected or wished for. At least spraying from my sample, it doesn’t impress me, sitting close to skin. And for the hefty price, it is quite underwhelming. On clothes, as with most of the fragrances, it lasts longer. Edit: Even though it is not the strongest performer fragrance, I decided that I do really love how it smells like and I purchased a bottle during Black Friday sale.

An interesting and complex scent! Here’s what I get from it: • Sweet baklava on the opening.. (you can almost taste the air 😋) • Rich & creamy, brandy soaked fruit cake on the mid.. • A resinous and smoky tobacco background that permeates throughout the wearing. It’s very unique - I can’t compare it with another fragrance fully but it reminds me of some aspects of these scents at least: • By the Fireplace - Maison Margiela • Milk+ - Commodity • Oud Éclat - Miller Harris • Baccarat Rouge - MFK • Sweetie Aoud - Roja • Tobacco Vanille - Tom Ford The way it performs reminds me of the Baccarat Rouge DNA, not that it smells super alike but it hits my nose in a similar way with that sweetness and resin. As this was drying down on my skin, I found the scent oddly familiar.. I’m certain it’s of when my mum used to make traditional wedding cakes 😁. I remember the smell of rich fruit cake filling the house as it was baking.. so comforting.. followed by the decadent scent of it being soaked with brandy. It’s a definite unisex scent - I understand some of the comments here about it being more masculine leaning, in the sense that it is in no way “girly”.. but for a girl that likes richer, leather type scents, I’d say this is perfect for anyone! This is going to absolutely sing in the colder months. 😍✨ A fantastic new release for Miller Harris 👏🏻

[JUNE 2024] I knew I wasn't crazy-- someone else compared this to Jeux de Peau by Serge Lutens. Smells like a good darn capuccino to start your day as the sun rises (also, hello, Ernest Hemingway reference?) Much more buttery in texture to the nose and its hint of salt to Jeux de Peau as well, along with Soufflot being smoother. It doesn't feel as "cute" (lacking JdP's apricot jam note, or its coconut note) but a surprisingly masculine breakfast perfume. But it has JdP's exact cinnamon/star anise note. A well balanced gourmand, this is. And the tobacco note is quite cherry. Makes it much more smokey than JdP, however. For you, that may be a good thing. I would definitely buy a bottle of Soufflot when a sale happens. I would not buy it for $369 but for $299AUD, perhaps. As someone who was brought into the world of perfumes thanks to Jeux de Peau, would Soufflot be considered signature scent worthy? Maybe? At the moment however, seems a bit one-note.

Ok! My ordered sample of Sofflot arrived over 10 hours ago and was applied immediately. My first impression of this welcome new fragrance by Miller Harris is as follows: Firstly, this is most definitely the heavier of the two new releases. Upon initial application to the back of my left hand and wrist, Soufflot opens with a predominantly strong nut note supported by green mandarin. Soon after, a distinct honey note joins the fragrance, adding a layer of sweetness as it dries down. As the dry-down deepens, the tobacco note joins it, remaining with the fragrance until well over the 10-hour mark. By this stage, the opening nut note loses its central predominance and is replaced by a more detectable leather note. In my personal opinion, Sufflot is a delightful masculine-leaning unisex scent suitable for autumn, winter, and early spring. Of course, everybody else's objective interpretation may well differ.

The opening i get the honey, cinnamon, tobbaco note with a subtle nut scent. For me the nutty accord is not very strong. As it dries the tobacco, honey and warm resinius notes are prominent. I get no orange or jasmine in this. As it dries, it reminds me a lot of Dior Tobacolor. Soufflat differs in that there is no dried fruit accord ans the honey is towned down. Soufflat's tobacco note is more tobacco leaf, less "smoky tobacco" than Tobacolor. Side by side, id choose Soufflat over Tobacolor if you prefer a more tobacco leaf less smoky tobacco smell, and also less honey forward. If you prefer more smoke or more honey/dried fruir, choose tobacolor. That being said, I also own Maison alhambra "Smoky" (formerly called Tabac). Soufflat is basically maison alhambra with a stronger tobacco accord. Theyre about 95-97% similar. Personal advicr, save your money and just get smoky, youll save about $100-125

The fragrance is inspired by Hemingway's description of a spring morning in Paris. However Soufflot is not a spring fragrance by any means. It is intensely warm and heavy, very much a winter scent. I love it, but not for myself, as it feels too masculine. It definitely reminds me of By the Fireplace, but it doesn't have the smoky notes that some people find unpleasant in the Replica scent. Soufflot also seems to be more potent, with big sillage and it is very long lasting.

I love this fragrance. It is straight up Gingerbread when it settles. Beautiful gourmand. The tobacco notes are subtle; so, don't be put off by that note if you don't like tobacco. Definitely nutty but in a great way. This is not at all my normal scent profile, but it is oddly addicting. I love it!

Starts with nice blend of spices (nutmeg, clove and cinnamon for me): slightly bitter and smoky. Then it transforms into beautiful roasted nuts and chestnuts with gooey balsamic sweet in the base. It’s definitely a grown up gourmand scent. Love it! Reminds me of Panettone Milano Fragranza tho :)

Starts with gingerbread note with warm summer Jasmine in the background. Dries down to smoky cinnamon pound cake. I love it. Jo Malone‘s gingerbread ‘s older brother version, with better silage. This reminds me of thanksgiving, Starbucks spicy pumpkin latte, and wool sweaters.

The most beautiful, cosy, sophisticated gourmand. Chestnut, cinnamon, honey. There's a sweet smokiness (but not *too* sweet). As others have said, this has a wonderful gingerbread dry down. Long lasting with a halo of silage. My autumn/winter signature scent.

Honey, chestnut and tobacco are the most prominant notes to my nose. A gourmand I can see my self wearing during the colder months - not too sweet. I can see people find it masculine leaning. I’d say it is unisex.

@Tea Lady To be honest, if you’re not a By The Fireplace fan, then this might not be for you as I would say this is more challenging. Another gourmand such as Commodity Milk may be more to your taste 😊

a lovely nutty, floral, leathery, tobacco leaf fragrance.. with a warm honeyed, nutty, gourmandy drydown that isn't tooth achingly sweet

This smells like the most delicious buttery gingerbread sprinkled with crushed nuts. Yummy!

I only had an opportunity to test it twice, but I know I would like to have a decant of this one, or a mini version if there appears one someday. The reason is that Soufflot is pricier than other Harris' scents where I live and I don't think I need a full bottle, since it's a scent best suitable for winter or end of the year due to its Christmassy vibe. Okay, straight to the point though. It's a spicy nutty gingerbread in a bottle, wonderfully projecting. So appetizing and cozy! More unisex, far less cloying and better quality than seasonal body sprays offered here and there. In my opinion, not similar to By the Fireplace which I perceive as a cozy, but smoky scent for autumn, and actually sweeter than Soufflot in the drydown phase.

Dense, sticky tobacco scent. I can definitely see the comparison to By the Fireplace in the opening, with similar nutty notes, but the comparison ends there. Where BTF is reasonably linear, this is quite complex. The nuts are really just the starter to true heart of the fragrance, which is the tobacco. It’s quite a rich tobacco, not as dusty as other style, as it’s blended with the honey and ambery base notes. It’s complex and deep, definitely for cold weather, and probably more suited to nighttime. Down the line unisex with decent performance, although not beast mode. A well executed perfume of this style.

I received a sample of this with a Miller Harris perfume order and sprayed one spray on my arm. The initial scent was instantly gingerbread for me, warm, sweet and spicy. As it dried down the spices are the most prominent but it’s a seductive sweet gourmand scent that I think would suit men and women. One spray has lasted 8 hours on my skin although very close to the skin after 6 hours. I can imagine this would be headache inducing if too much was sprayed but the silage and longevity is really nice. Will definitely consider buying a full size bottle.

Got a 5ml decant of this gem and I’m shook. 🌰🍯 It’s a true gourmand smells like roasted nuts, honey, and a touch of burnt wood. It’s giving 'breakfast in Paris' energy with that buttery croissant note. The ultimate morning scent, period.🥐🧈

The opening is amazing! Gourmand caramel, honey and nuts. Then the drydown: wait, I know this one! It’s Tobacolor! Unfortunatelly it fades quickly. A good scent. Overpriced with this longevity.

@BellaSmella and all you others - I am a bit concerned about the smoke note. I don't like By the Fireplace because of that. How does that compare?

wow......on fabric i think i get the 'full' scent profile (huge hit of chestnut that immediately turns into slightly sweet slightly spicy blend of honey and tobacco, not very strong though but it is very interesting) but on skin, it has an extremely sharp opening that settles into one of the worst smells ever! it's 90% tobacco and 10% chestnut, literally nothing else. ive noticed my skin just loves to pull tobacco notes and drown out everything else though sadly:( if your skin type is like this, i wouldnt recommend at all, but for everyone else it's probably OK. the other notes come in after a long while but they are very very faint. to try to rectify what was already on my skin, i tried layering: bianco latte- turns it into a nutty kinda spiced milk. it's ok marshmallow by demeter frags- i really liked this! the tobacco and maple syrup-ness from marshmallow came together quite nice

Enter a rush of warmth, spiced, rich, and laced with a deep tobacco depth charred til dark. There’s a nuttiness woven through, adding a subtle gourmand edge, but it never leans too sweet. Instead, the honey slowly seeps in, rounding out the sharper spices with a golden, sticky warmth, though it never fully takes over. Despite the sweet undercurrent, the scent stays firmly in its own smoky, hazy and spicy territory—bold, textured, and smoldering rather than soft or syrupy. A fragrance with heat, heat in the sense of the air in a spice market just before dusk. Not what I was expecting.

A very sweet roasted chestnut fragrance. Unisex but leans slightly feminine. I can’t lie I think this smells pretty great as far as nutty gourmands go. If that is what you’re going for it is worth a sample. Might just be a hair too sweet and cutesy for my taste but I’d like to smell this on my girlfriend. 7.1/10

Sitting by a crackling wood stove, roasting chestnuts, getting lost in conversation; only to realise you’ve forgotten them. They’ve burned so completely that their shells have turned black and a thin smoke begins to rise. The insides are dry, scorched. Now imagine a layer of sweetness poured over that charred gust of air. The result is a scrubber. Tag(s): scorched nuts, sweet, cloying

On first spray I flinched and wondered if this was off but on checking the notes I see how condensed it is, very chestnut, hazelnut, honey but on me the cinnamon jars rather than compliments the not to sweet intensity. Try before buy unless you know you adore the notes. I had to wash it from my wrist but I think it has staying power and projection.

Smells like day old cigarettes and burnt chestnuts. There’s an astringent, camphorous note that is just really unpleasant. Scrubber.

What are they thinking?! This dreadful ingredient, the appropriately named Orcanox ( the scent of demented orcs at night) made me wheeze. I mean I'm just thinking of these highly trained noses,capable of producing beauties such as L'air de Rien or La Fumee and I'm wondering how their sensitive nostrils can deal with this. Some may feel I exaggerate, if they're not sensitive to this perfume material. To me it's like singed hair, TCP and oven cleaner combined. There is a nice touch of tobacco, so on a good day this is like being inside the scarred interior of a tobacco pipe stem. “Oh, It’s a gourmand!” I said to my friend in shock when I first smelled this. But, never fear, this is not one of those overly sweet, candy floss gourmands that have flooded the perfume market in recent years and that I dismissively call “pink mingers.” This is a dark, nutty, sticky gourmand, which perfectly reflects the passage which inspired it (from “The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway.) You can instantly smell the coffee, croissants, smoke and horse chestnuts of a Parisian morning. This perfume is sensual yet comforting rather than arousing. It envelopes you in an olfactory cashmere hug and is perfect for cold, rainy days when you need some warmth. It reminds me of Serge Lutens’ Arabie in that it is so treacly and rich you can almost taste it. I’d love to see how it performs in extremes of weather. I think it could be quite the unexpected sultry sex bomb in tropical heat. This doesn’t lean masculine at all to me, but I’m someone who worships at the alter of rich, dark perfumes. I’m a huge fan of Miller Harris perfumes as they always surprise me. I find them very evocative scents: the layers of aroma are there for a reason, transporting you to another time and place. This is one of their best.

If you want to experience the perfume, read this: When Mathieu Nardin read "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway, he immediately wanted to convey the olfactory memory he had on an early morning walk in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris. As the first rays of sunlight caressed the leaves of the chestnut trees that adorn the garden's paths, their delicate white flowers shone like pearls in the soft morning light. The perfumer was enchanted by the magical scent of these flowers, an extraordinary combination of floral and nutty sweetness. Notes of tobacco from a nearby café, together with the enchanting notes of elegant leather bags of Parisian passers-by crossing the garden, create the final touch of colorful bustle. For me, such a beautiful gourmand perfume, I have no complaints about it. It would not be right if the smell of cookies at the opening was constant, it should not be more intense. It is exactly what the text describes. All the notes are beautifully presented and make it perfect for autumn-winter. For me 10/10

To me this is nothing like By The Fireside. This is a perfect autumn/winter scent. It’s cosy. It’s sitting in your favourite coffee shop on a Sunday morning people watching. It’s that sitting outside with a pastry before walking into a bookshop. However, besides being cosy. It’s sexy. When I feel I am wearing some nice clothes, I have my make up how I want it, I would wear this to feel confident as the last touch to walking out the door feeling good, and that’s sexy. It’s warm and more complex than BtF. Full bottle worthy and will be buying a bottle when I run out of this sample. I just don’t understand why they realised it during spring. Definitely more of a cold weather scent. One of the best Miller Harris perfumes.

I enjoy how unique this is, everyone is smelling something complex and varied among the reviews. On my skin, the tobacco stands out the most, dominating the other notes. Being a tobacco lover I do not mind, as this is a very realistic dry tobacco. Reminds me of the golden burley my grandfather used to roll his own cigarettes. It is a little difficult to pinpoint what notes I'm detecting but I like that about it. Simply for that nostalgic tobacco smell I would purchase a bottle of this and use it primarily for Fall and Winter. It's very warm, comforting, slightly sweet, and uniquely complex.

My main issue with Miller Harris fragrances on my skin is they start off so lovely and then dry down a bit boring. When I first spray this it makes me think of sipping a piping hot cup of bitter black tea sweetened with honey, the scent of chestnuts roasting nearby and someone smoking pipe tobacco. But then it kind of just dries down to smelling burnt. I asked a few people for their opinions and they said it reminded them of burning plastic. I think this would be a great gourmand(ish) fragrance on masculine skin.

This is 99% Black Phantom by Kilian. NOT by the fire place. Last 7 hours on skin. 4 hours silage. Very Strong, thick and sticky hazelnut, honey, dulce caramel spread. Mild urine note. Its too much for me, suffocating and wanted to wash it off after an hour. It is nice though in small doses can imagine wearing in dead of baltic winter with a cashmere jumper and hot coco under the stars. In heat it's overwhelming.

Pretty boring and "have smelled before" chestnut gourmand, love child of By the fireplace, Noir Exquis, Zadig&Voltaire, you name it. It's pleasant, but despite the nuances mentioned by reviewers before it still too much "reminds of" and lacks personality.

To me the prominent note in this is the spicy cinnamon leaf, with the honey and tobacco and hazelnut in the background. This is a masculine-leaning unisex scent, as another reviewer pointed out.

Waiting for someone who has actually tried this to leave a review please. Is this really more masculine with the tobacco and leather notes?

Smells like a sexy croissant. Very good longevity.
