Tweed

First of all, hats off for a top-notch inclusion of Stiffy Byng in the review below by Lindley – as a fellow P.G. Wodehouse aficionado, I cannot think of anything more perfect than mentioning this sprightliest and brightest of Bright Young Things as a Tweed-sporting heroine. Because: wearing Tweed makes you feel equal to handling any occasion – it will wear well doing anything, anytime, anywhere, and often does (including a comforting spritzy spray before bedtime). A complete bargain and full of joie de vivre juxtaposed with the calming influence of lavender and beeswax. I’m surprised it doesn’t come with a complimentary bottle of fizz and a handy glass, such is its boundless can-do and willingness to Do the Right Thing. The notes contain everything too – from the lavender and beeswax already mentioned, there is much woody goodness here, rose and cacao, with that added honey sweetness. It pulls you together, just like a well-cut and dashing tweed suit should, yet it’s enthusiastic at the same time; if Tweed were a pooch, it would be a Labrador, full of walkies and fetching; yet if it were a feline, it would be draping itself nonchalantly and elegantly over the drawing-room chaise-longue. P.S. Please do try to disregard the monstrosity of a bottle. Not quite sure what the marketing team thought of there. It does, however, with its fetching moss-green and dusky orange combo rather match my outfit today – tweed skirt included! Wahey!

Ah, so THIS is my version! Mine is Taylor of London, parent company Milton Lloyd, in the hideous bottle as pictured. However, the notes seem all wrong for what is essentially a chypre. My review for the Fine Fragrances one, copy-pasted: (Taylor of London current version). This is perfectly named. It is the kind of scent Stiffy Byng would wear along with her tweeds on a lovely Spring morning as she walked her dog, pausing to impulsively push a policeman into the village pond. It has that kind of air to it: wealthy, well bred, confident but fresh and playful. No stuffy London drawing rooms or parties, but riding and long walks and tea in the garden. Expensive soap and face powder and a light breeze carrying woods, rich earth and garden flowers. I can't compare it to its Lentheric vintage, but the dull looking boxes in the chemists, exiled from the locked glass cabinets to the shelf under the "If you like, you'll love..." bottles, conceal a treasure. Mild sillage, great longevity, beautiful scent.

I have not long re-aquainted myself with Tweed. My Mum used to wear it when she was young, smart and vivacious. She is sadly gone now, but I remember this perfume well. When I first sprayed it, it was very herby, but the other notes gradually tamp this down, and after around an hour, on me, it transforms into a floral chypre in the true sense and all the while the basil keeps it green. The drydown gets more floral, deeper and the basil ebbs away, leaving a delicious scent. Quite a journey for such an inexpensive perfume. I have since got the body spray and the talc to co-ordinate. It was quite a challenge in the first place, but I gradually learned to love this old friend. If you like this perfume, but hate the opening, try applying a little J'adore or Al Rehab Sofia (J'Adore-alike) - it softens and sweetens it somewhat and makes it more bearable, but doesn't last long enough to impinge on the heart of Tweed.

Tweed must be one of the best kept secrets in the perfume world! The weird thing is, it's still available and it costs next to nothing. And it's utterly gorgeous! If you have taste for the old fashioned, sporty, country living lifestyle, you should give Tweed a go. Think of antique furniture polished with beeswax, a soft breeze from a window open to a herbal garden and a worn leather bridle thrown on the back of a chair. As mentioned in the earlier reviews, Tweed is somewhere in the blissful sphere of P.G. Wodehouse's novels or say, Ruby Ferguson's pony books.

Interesting. Classic that on clothes smells literally like tweed, with mixture of powder, lanolin and eau de cologne, on skin it evaporates to something very gentle, faint and completely different, floral and sweet. I’m very surprised by classification as a woody floral musk, as judging from ingredients it is a super classic chypre, with formulary combination of citrus, florals and woods. Overall, bargain price, good old English craftsmanship and a reminder that things used to be really good 50 years ago :). Love it here and now, it smells of pure nostalgia :)

I love the dry-down of this perfume but unfortunately, I can't say the same for the opening! To my nose, the opening is very harsh, very spicy and green in an almost masculine way. Lots of basil. After an hour, the basil quiets down and the middle and base notes start to emerge and it becomes a lovely symphony: earthy and sensual. The basil is still there but it complements the other notes (honey and lavender stand out) perfectly, so it transforms into something that's nice and intriguing instead of brash and abrasive. I wish I enjoyed the beginning of this! For now, I won't purchase this, but I am keeping an eye on it. It is such a unique, beautiful scent! It's something I'd imagine mythical fairies wearing. Feels like the forest... Melodious and lulling.

I had a bottle of Tweed and I loved it. I stupidly culled it in a perfume purge. I still think about it. So time to replace it with another bottle. Be great for the cooler weather as I enjoy the honey notes and gentle cacao woody base. I don't know why but this reminds me of my grandma who reminded me of a classy english lady whore Tweed skirts and was just the embodiment of love.

This lasts really well and smells good. To me it smells clean and spicy. The cedar is nice. Of the testers I tried this is still going strong hours later, the others have faded to nothing. This is good value and I'll invest in a bottle very soon.

I blind bought a 10ml bottle of this for £1.99. It does smell very much like its name: It's old English, traditional, slightly old fashioned and herbal. I would say that it's masculine and I've smelled this herbal note many times in aftershaves from the past. I don't know what to make of it as I'm not sure if I want to smell like an old gentleman (I'm a middle aged woman). I'll give it time and maybe it works when layered. On it's own it smells a bit like an old people's home. But I don't want to give up on it just yet.

Vandaag heb ik een fles Tweed ontvangen,ik kende de geur niet en op basis van de geurnoten en reviews heb deze gekozen ..en ik vind het heerlijk! Chypre floral staat op het doosje.Er komt behoorlijk veel uit de spray.de begingeur doet me denken aan de geur van een flesje black musk wat ik heb.Ik heb erg moeten wennen aan black musk,wat totaal anders is dan de gewone of witte musk.Dit doet me hier aan denken,ik heb dezelfde associatie,vreemd genoeg doet het me denken aan een geur uit een klein reizend circus die eens zijn kampementen opsloeg in het dorp Ik heb toen bij de kamelen gekeken,en de geur van stoffige dieren,hooi en stro ruik ik in black musk en dus ook in tweed.Ik weet het,dat klinkt niet als reclame voor een lekker parfum, misschien moet ik het eerder als aards,dierlijk omschrijven maar ik geniet ervan.Ik ben blij met mijn blind buy ,na vele parfum miskopen de laatste tijd eindelijk weer genieten....Ik heb trouwens ook Tabu by Dana gekocht,heeft veel overeenkomsten met Tweed,alleen in het begin iets zoeter, ronder,licht caramel,maar daarna voor mij een even groot succes als Tweed.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 161 Male review ---------------- Purchased September 2019 Another ladies bottle for air freshening. I get a fair bit of Jovan Musk for Men. I wore Tweed only once to see how far I can go with a classic womens' bottle. It has quite a lot of amber but also florals and some pine/cedar resin and/or cuts. Look at that bottle, look at it! When you were a child noticing your mum's dresser with the bloody big mirror and a bottle like that was sitting there for years, yet never finding out how it's used since its one of her proud possessions. A good scent was a good scent, 95% of people had a signature scent. It was just one used every hour of every day, all year. That's how you also remembered certain people. Before you see them their smell rushes at you and their footsteps, y'know little things. All these Milton Lloyd bottles paint this. I'll try to find other forgotten bottles like this, many of them obviously wouldn't be on this website since many were cheap and unisex/marketed to no sex. Like I said, some scents just used to be as they came.

Ik wilde nog toevoegen,dat ik vandaag ook Tabu by Dana heb ontvangen,ook een gok,en ook een succes voor mij.Lijkt zeer op Tweed,alleen ruikt Tabu in het begin wat zoeter,ronder en een beetje caramel achtig,als dat verdwijnt ruikt het zeer naar tweed( en ik heb trouwens ook nog Pagan( mayfair) gekocht die bloemiger is, maar voor mij vallen ze allemaal in de groep van parfums waar ik erg van geniet.De zwarte musk waar ik het over heb,is een olie,dat had ik er niet bij gezet

This one is quite nice! In fact, it has similar DNA to Aramis. It's powdery and a little soapy, with lovely floral notes that tie everything down. I know this is meant to be a femme perfume but a guy can pull it off, if he can pull off Aramis. The presentation (box, bottle) is cheap but the scent itself is well structured. I like it!

Spicy woody, green and bitter (crushed basilic, lavender and cedar), the kind that could be intended for a man and that I love to use as a woman. Il also make a fabulous layering with something to faint or to shy and girly. I big love for me in those hot days.

Tweed is underrated if you ask me. It's a fabulous spicy woody scent that often escapes under the radar. Some would call it old fashioned today, but I call it a fantastic Autumnal classic and I wear it proudly!

I didnt test old Tweed. This version contains civet on its top note...it is a nice cologne in general

This is dead ringer for the other tweeds.
