BARREL

there was a time when i was about to shell out upwards of 200 euros for this, and i'm glad fate intervened as i would've greatly regretted having done so. it sounds like a winning combo, but the unfortunate truth is that it comes across quite femme, floral and wispy for my liking. there are a few 'whiskey' barrel scents out there on the market, and very VERY few of them achieve that, and even fewer of them actually smell wearable. won't namedrop which ones, but it's incredibly hard to get a scent that has that knockout punch when it comes to either booze or booze-inspired. this one, unforch, comes on too dainty for mine. this might be your cup of tea, and that's cool, but for me it's just not my bag.

This perfume is exactly what the name promises: the intoxicating scent of a barrel filled with a fine spirit. The wood saturated with the drink inside, a warm comforting scent, full bodied with just enough sweetness. It is woven through with the tanginess of tanine so it doesn't become cloying. It reminds me of Lubin's Korrigan in certain aspects, but without the overwhelming sweetness that one exudes after a while. Love this perfume, I bought it as my Christmas gift. Plus, the bottle is packed in the most beautiful satin-lined box, just like the perfumes of long ago. Longevity is pretty good, my T-shirt still smells delicious the next day, so this one is definitely a winner.

This smell is 1:1 of a childhood memory for me, the apartment that belonged to my sisters best friend. It was always dark, even in the daytime, but always at the perfect temp and smelled like they cleaned their space & clothes daily. Shallow as it may be, but when my sister stopped taking me I was sad ‘fore I was sure I’d never smell that cozy, cocooning -aroma again. It last a long time too! I spray once on the wrist before bed and it’ll be there when I wake. I love the amouage opus line and I feel like this fits as a bridge for opus I & III.

This is one of my favorites from MiN. Rum is the star supported by woods and leather as others have noted but on my skin the tuberose shows itself after about an hour. I have been exploring tuberose lately and Barrel is high on my list of unique approaches to this gorgeous flower. It isn't overt but it does waft in and out throughout the day. I thought this would be a cold weather scent when I tested it this winter but I'm enjoying it more now in warmer temperatures.

Very smooth unisex masculine leaning rum and leather opening before transitioning to myrrh and cedarish accords in the middle anchored by barely noticeable patchouli. Coriander plays a major role in rounding out this one. I love most all of Min fragrances and put them in my top 5 houses currently, this is and I'm not just saying it, is beautifully blended with lots of longevity, sillage and depth.

So I ended up getting this -- for much less than I should've -- but still, I bought it. The leathered-rum is intoxicating, absolutely intoxicating. The resined florals, too, marry seamlessly with the other components, and this scent just works PERFECTLY. I don't wear this ANYWHERE near as much as I should, but MAN, I really like this one. It's just divine...

After a full wearing. This i will be added to my collection. The is creamy rum with leather in background. But the rum is the star of the show. This must be Rum Absolute because it seams to last forever. That also would explain the price as Rum Absolute oil is very expensive.

Wow! Just got a sample of this. This is a great one. 10/10. Very regal, clean and dark at the same time. High quality ingredients. Worth the price IMO.

I'm really quite enjoying this. It's not as woody as I was expecting, but it's very pleasant. It's extremely smooth, creamy, indulgent, comforting. The opening had a soft citrusy quality mixed with the wood, but that matured into a more complex scent. There are tiny touches of floral notes here. I generally hate floral notes, but these are more creamy and aromatic, not flowery. The vanilla, myrrh, and pink pepper come together beautifully here and create something that would smell just as incredible on a man or woman. I do wish the wood were stronger, but the scents drowning out the wood are so good that I can't be too disappointed. This is a very soft fragrance. That's not to say it's weak (the projection seems about average), but it brings to mind snowflakes gently falling to the ground, a slow spring breeze whispering through a field, white clouds leisurely floating through a blue sky. It's a relaxing fragrance that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment. I can't imagine anyone disliking this fragrance unless they really had their heart set on an earthier, woodier fragrance.

Barrel is a beautiful unisex scent, it has some vibe at the background especialy at the opening, from the Shaman by the same house but Barrel is more vivid and playful. Shaman is more a realistic scent. It has zero similarities with Moon Dust as one reviewer says. Great versatility, I can wear it year round day & night and it leans to masculine scents. Imo it would feel better at cool spring/summer evenings. This is very smooth and well blended. I get almost everything from the note pyramide. Strong but smooth myrrh is here, smooth boozyness, everything screams quality nothing harsh or unpleasant. Myrrh, leather, wormwood, rum and spices are the dominant notes. There are also intensive oak and corriander. Patchouli, orange blossom and vetiver are mild. Vanilla is there just to support this super smooth blend. It's a ghost lol! I get no moss, tuberose. Not even traces. It is a long lasting scent with moderate sillage. Beautiful!

This is a lovely fragrance, but I do not find it a beast. Its silage is fine but not close to the blasts of some of Beaufort's pirate scents. The notes that the house itself lists are rather different than the ones listed here: Top: Absinthe, Coriander & Pink Peppercorn Heart: Rum, Myrrh & Orange Blossom Base: Oak Barrel, Leather, Vanilla, Patchouli & Vetyver I smell the absinthe but I would not describe the overall effect as smoky as much as boozy and smooth without any bright fireworks of notes. It is well-blended and could be worn day or night in any season except perhaps summer. (I only received this a few days ago). It makes me feel good when I wear it and that is ultimately what I want most from fragrance.

It's a gentle, slightly boozy, slightly smoky floral scent. Not a beast, I find it a clean, grown-up scent. Probably one of the most wearable fragrances of the line, very educated despite the name, the notes and the description. Not only it doesn't get near Beaufort's fragrances - as user @parkemuth already notes - Moon Dust and Dahab from this very maison are far more in the pirate mode than this one. Lasts a LOT on the skin.

Just doesn't move me. The opening isn't a favorite. Not sure if it is teh coriander. Could be. But coriander works well in others. The coriander reminds me of L'Air Du Desert Marocain. They have some similarities. Certainly not a full "reminds me of". This I just didn't dig. Its ok after the opening. About 6 hours of longevity on my skin. After the opening it is a decent boozy leather. I like Moon Dust better.

Masculine, dark, woody, a little sweet. Quite overpowering. I would find it sexy on a woman.

Although being credited to Julien Rasquinet, Barrel smells like something Duchaufour could have come up with during his less inspired days. A boozy-spicy-woody oriental with a sweet quality, some resins and subtle florals. Something along the line of certain Lubin, a bunch of Frapin or whatever other average niche-line offering a boozy oriental. It opens extremely sweet but it tames down pretty fast turning into a nice and yet yawn-idnucing woody-balmy base. Pity because I think the whole MiN line had a fantastic potential and quite some diversity within its range. Unfortunately most of their fragrances smell rushed and kind of unfinished but, most of all, the majority of them lack that certain *je ne sais qoui* that would have turned them into standouts when compared to other similarly themed compositions available on the market. Rating: 5.5-6/10

The opening smells similar to the exceptionally horrible "Moon Dust". I'm getting that metallic, earthy, soil accord -my guess is that this is down to the sharp synthetic rum note and the dirty vetiver they use in "Old School Bench"- but with some sweetness buried underneath. Within several minutes it claws its way out of the soil and asphalt into an indistinct spicy leather and a vague floral. The coriander and peppery spices tickle the nose, but mostly I just get an ugly mix of soil, leather and wood. Not as awful as "Moon Dust" perhaps, but still too murky and not very wearable.

A spicy, boozy, ambery, oriental thing with floral undertones. Very sweet mostly due to the rum, amber, absinthe, and myrrh. Simply a collaboration of one too many (thick) notes that I simply can't get onboard with. The florals in the heart make this one lean feminine to me. Surprising to see Julien Rasquinet as the perfumer here, as his compositions are a bit more daring and sophisticated than this.

The oakiest oak that ever oaked. You really have to be a wood lover to enjoy this

Barrel starts with a peppery, earthy oak accompanied by what smells like a coarse, cade-infused leather. A coriander note is set on high, and a patchouli / vetiver combo provides structure, but the emphasis is mainly on gritty, textural wood notes over a chord of clean, mineralic soil. Furthermore, there’s a boozy facet and some floral notes for lift with the overall form reading like more bodied and substantial take on L’Occitane’s Cade—warm, yet bracing. Relatively linear, this one’s easy to enjoy in that it doesn’t demand too much from the wearer but it offers enough depth and complexity to maintain interest.

I so wanted to love this, but something about it is off for me. I wanted a boozy leathery powerhouse, and the strength and richness is there, happily I don't get any of the floral, although it must add to the spirit of the scent. I have a big problem with synthetic tuberose which could be what is irking me even though it isn't front and center, and perhaps the synthetic rum and leather along with it smells literally “off” to me. This said, I adore the weirdness of Moon Dust, just sayin' 😁
