Blue Wood

Let me be clear, I'm not a fan of Layton bc I could not get past this Vicks/TigerBalm smell alongside a sickly sweet apple note. It made me slightly nauseated. I still have the sample I picked up Blue Wood as a sample that came with my purchase of Mystery for Him(yummmm) and decided to give it a whirl on a cool crisp fall day. I can tell the same perfumer is at work here that created Layton but the differences are super important. The overall juice has been smoothed out, refined if you will. Simply put, it's just more mature. The Apple note is gone, replaced by citrus and the medicinal quality is there, but not in your face. Silage is great, the scent bubble is very present and the dry down is freakin fantastic. This is quality, as shown by the great rating.

I’m honestly confused. Wore Blue Wood on one hand and Layton on the other. This is 100% better than Layton. They smell identical. Same spicy-sweet vibe, same smooth signature. The difference is in the weight. Layton runs darker and heavier, great for cold weather. Blue Wood keeps the same DNA but lifts it. It’s brighter, easier to wear, and works in any season without feeling thick or loud. Basically Layton made more wearable. One of the best “same perfumer, different mood” releases you can get. This is low key way better than Layton which is crazy

Literally just smells like mint toothpaste. Not a fan Edit: After owning the decant for few weeks, I gotta say it doesnt seem as minty as before. It still does have that strong menthol like scent, but its also way sweeter and slightly spicier. Also the performance is beastly. I actually like it now.

Straight up layton but theres something slightly different. I think its smoother and less harsh. Still get that menthol type blend but I like that for some reason. I gave away my layton and I got this years later. Will not ever need to go back. This is really good.

Love this. Smelled the accused inspiration. Don't see the similarities at all this is smooth sweet musky . Great everyday scent longevity is a designer level so a good day of work. Glad I got my hands on this one.

This one is a banger especially considering the price. It is a fresh version of Layton for sure and it makes it highly wearable.

Similarity with Layton aside, the opening accord have some feeling of “rice fresh off the steamer” which usually is fig accord (like in Un Jardin Sur la Nil). The choice of mixing vanilla with sandalwood create pretty alluring tone and, in weird ways, remind me of the creamy iris mix from Prada L’Homme line. This might be a good layering cologne when you want to remove some sharpness like the sharp citrus ink note from Armaf Sillage. ------- Edit: Now I actually use it, I think it's still not a "summer day" fragrance. It's fresher. It's more airy. But the vanilla here is pretty forward with good dose of sweetness. Without much of citruses to tone it down, It's hard for a summer heat daytime use. With outdoor 30C air, it still come off as a bit too cloying. This needs 25C at most to work the magic. But with summer night? I think it fits the vibe pretty good! With the vanilla forward it shows your playful side. The airiness works well and this won't end up being too "thick" for summer night and end up choking people like several of clubbing master cologne.

There is nothing ground breaking here. For me, its a little too sweet. Its more woody than blue. I like the PDM much more as it actually made an impression on me. This stuff is dirt cheap, so it you don't have any woody forward blues, grab a decant. The performance is decent. With 3 sprays from a most excellent atomizer, I got 6 hours of 3' projection. It's a new bottle so I will revisit it in a few months, but for now, I'll go with an 8 on this one. Mystery is where it is at! That's a 9.25!

This reminds me of something between Loewe Man and Zara Dark Amber... where Loewe is the most refined and sweeter smelling, and Dark Amber is at the other end and more abrasive. I think Blue Woods is a richer, more fruity version of that kind of woodsy, bitter tone. I couldn’t stop smelling it on the tester and I love how the dry down is on me.

Like everyone says, it's PDM Layton with fizzy opening soda-like and a toned down of oud or woodsy notes if you smell up close. But in the air I think its 80% identical to Layton. Still a good perfume tho. Ps. I let it sit around 3-4 months and the scent is getting stronger over time. The longivity improves as well. Great scence to rock it on.

Kinda reminds me of Spice Bomb Extreme but not as strong, just a vibe. Haven’t had a chance to try Layton. This is a nice slightly spicy vanilla woody scent. Rather mild and thus very versatile. Great value!

Quite similar to PDM layton with more fizzy, so it is easier to wear in the summer or tropical zone like Thailand!

Nice Thai fragrance. It s quiet similar to PDM Layton. Smell 9/10 Longevity 8.5/10 Sillage 8/10 Price 10/10

I’m still a newbie when it comes to fragrances, but Blue Wood Mith feels too spicy and too sweet for me. I think it’s a very complex scent, and honestly a bit too sweet for my taste.

At first I was, like, oh this is nice! A few minutes later I was, like, hmm... where did the coolness, spiciness, and menthol vibe come from? After ten minutes, I was, like, hold on... is this JV x NJ dupe in the dry down? Hard pass! I was actually impressed by the opening; nice citrus that is a combination of bergamot, pink grapefruit, bitter orange, and geranium. After a short while, this pleasantness subsided and developed into something cooler and more spicy, like mint and pepper combined. Still interesting, even though I much prefer the opening. However, the abomination lies in the last stage, after about 10 minutes, Blue Wood became so generic, unpleasant, and nauseating that I wish I'd scrubbed it off. It's become an ultra-masculine perfume with lavender, vanillin, and guaiac wood overdose. The vanillin smells so chemical and 'guaiac wood' is just ISO E Super. Honestly, for a fragrance with such a good opening, the rest just destroys it. It's just like John Varvatos x Nick Jonas (the indigo bottle), which happens to be another fragrance I seriously dislike. Smells 90% similar. Perhaps MITH's Blue Wood has a more interesting opening but that's about it. If anyone wishes to buy this, try it first AND wait for it to dry down. Only after a quarter of an hour should you be able to decide whether this one is for you. And it's not unisex, at all.

A “Diet Layton” creation by the original perfumer of Layton himself, and I would argue a MUCH better more versatile version. I love this shit. I really like the original Layton but I find it to be an uber sophisticated special occasion fragrance more than anything, because of it, I dont reach for it often. But this? I can wear this any time, any day... almost. I dont think I’d wear this in 85F+ humid weather. It’s just bordering on too heavy for that still. It’s very high quality, well blended, and comforting. Excellent price too. Support this brand and not PdM.

This is like if Layton settled down & had kids. Looks like I don't have to worry about rationing my bottle of pre-reformulated Layton & can scratch that itch! This stuff is REALLY GOOD! Dare I say neck and neck with the OG? Sillage and Longevity are definitely beating the new batches of Layton as well. All around 9/10
