Mystery For Him

Mystery for Him, aka Aventus Eau Fraiche I have not had the pleasure of smelling those fabled old batches of Aventus, but if they're anything like the pineapple opening of this, I understand why they've captured the imaginations of so many. It's great to see JC Herault himself not only revisit and update his creation but to gift an affordable version of that legendary pineapple accord to the world (or at least to the people of Thailand). One of the downsides of Aventus is that it can get cloying in hot weather, and this one deftly sidesteps and downplays all of the notes in the original that would turn unpleasant on a 35C day. The smokiness of the original is turned way, way down, replaced with...Baccarat Rouge 540?? Yes, the drydown does have a BR540 element to it, and I'm guessing that Mystery incorporates a large dose of BR540's one-two punch of ethyl maltol and Veramoss to achieve that. The difference is that the pineapple lingers over the top of it so that the effect is not suffocating cotton candy but pleasantly sweet and fruity. It's a very clever turn that I have only grown to like more as I've worn it. [NB: This fragrance actually had the unintended consequence of making me appreciate BR540 more.] Cannot beat it for the price. I wholeheartedly recommend it. I hope Herault gets a good paycheck for this after what Creed did to him.

I am surprised that pineapple is not listed as a note. Because even with my noob, untrained nose, that is what stands out to me in the beginning. I feel like the notes are blended well otherwise. It does not give me a headache, and it does not have that horrible harshness from other supposedly similar frags (Aventus clones) like CDNIM. I hear that on dry-down, dupes are very identical to Aventus; but the initial punch in the face is enough to turn me away from these. Mith's MFH is a great experience throughout. I would prefer less fruitiness and a bit more smoke/woodiness if possible. I spray this on my torso once before going to bed. The next day, the scent still lingers on my blankets. One spray before leaving home. Coming home from work (out for 13 hours), I walk in through the front door and smell this frag lingering in the air in a really pleasant way. I also keep smelling this on myself throughout the day, so there might be something about it that makes you less nose-blind to it. Atomizer sprayer is very good for both travel size 15mL and full bottle 100mL. I am new to this hobby and have tried 50+ samples, this is the only one I have bought a full bottle's worth of after consistently reaching for this every day, without fail.

As stated by others here Mystery is lighter (but not weak) and sweeter (yet not cloying). I was worried about that as I don't like super sweet fragrances. This is earthy but not as woody or musky as Aventus. This smells like Aventus after he's washed off the smoky soot build up from grilling pineapples over birch wood chips. He's shaped up his 5 o'clock and put on fresh clothes. Aventus to me is clean despite the darker smoke and woods. But this is even cleaner and dare I say smoother but has the exact same face that only seems more visible now that the smoke has cleared a bit. With Mystery For Him, Jean-Christophe Hérault displays a certain distinct mastery of the Aventus DNA like no other. Masterfully done!👏 *Update after 2 days wearings.* This stuff last a looong time on me. I can smell it the whole time. I still smell traces of it even after lathering. One of the things I love about MFH is the natural quality. The very same feature that made me love Aventus over the dupes and inspired takes. Though it's not a Creed fragrance. I now consider MFH the flanker to Aventus in my collection.

Wow, this takes me back! Aventus was my first obsession in the form of a fragrance right when it came out. It was so different than anything ever created before and it garnered ridiculous amounts of people noticing it. It was a mind blowing phenomenon. As a die hard Aventus fan, I have to say that this stuff takes me back to the good ol' days when the batches were full of variety. Everyone wanted the juicy pineapple batches such as 11Z01, or the vanilla heavy batches. Whether you believe it or not, the batches did vary. This reminds me of both the juicy pineapple batches mixed with the vanilla-heavy batches. I would say the only difference is the fact that the OG had such a full-bodied smoke flavor from the birch that gave it such a foundation. I just got my bottle in tonight and it is giving me such wonderful flashbacks. I cannot wait to wear this. If you like Aventus, especially bottles from back in the actual Aventus-era, you will not regret blind buying this.

I stumbled upon the Mith house in Bangkok CentralWorld and this was the first one I tried when I saw the perfumer name. This is a fantastic fragrance created by none other than Jean-Christophe Herault, the nose behind Creed Aventus. Despite the name, this fragrance reminds you of the Aventus DNA right away. Being a fan of Aventus, and i’m not disappointed whatsoever to say the least. The perfume opens up with juicy pineapple (weird it’s not one of the notes) and settles into a bed of sweet vanilla and light amber. For a fraction of the price, you get a quality fragrance that smells natural and lasts a long time. It’s lighter than Creed Aventus in terms of intensity but lasts longer. Comes in 10ml, 60ml and 100ml so i snagged the 100ml with no hesitation. If you’re in Thailand, make sure to check this one out. 5/5

Im going to tell you right now JCH was LYING when he said this was a Aventus BR540 hybrid. He only said that so the people at creed didnt want to kill him for ressurecting vintage aventus. The only reason people are saying its a twist of these two is because they heard JCH say it....but when JCH said it, it was a lie and then everyones nose started lying to their brain. There is absolutely zero BR540 in this. Not an almond to be found. This smells just like Vintage aventus with the heavier pineapple sweetness from back in the day. I dont give a damn what any of these people are saying....its not there whatsoever. He was simply trying to save face. Thats all besides the point because the real matter at hand is, how good is this? Its absolutely freaking amazing. Thats how good it is.

Just got this in today and I like it a lot. I'm not too familiar with Creed Aventus, Besides testing it out a few times and I never felt the urge to purchase it, Because I didn't think it was for me. I also tried out imperium electimuss which is the "Creamsicle Aventus" and even though I liked it a bit more then Aventus..It was too creamy & floral for my tastes. With Mystery..It's a Blast of pineapple, Slight citrus/spice behind it with a barely there vanilla & oakmoss..Smells really nice and high quality, I'm really surprised that pineapple isn't listed in the notes. I am really looking forward to wearing it in warmer weather. Aventus is way more citrus forward, No pineapple...Smells boring compared to this. Great price & totally worth it!

This is what Aventus should have been. I am a little confused about this fragrance though. First of all, its 20F out and this heavy pineapple does not flow with it. It projects hard for an hour with 2 sprays. The opening is more suited for spring and summer. After the pineapple fades, the confusion set in. I got a deep, smoky woods. Last night before bed, I tried one spray of Essential Perfumes Bois Imperial Extrait, but that was 18 hours ago. I don't know if those two were gelling together or what. I am going to have to try it out after a shower in the spring. Right now, its getting an 8.5, but I have a feeling that this is an easy 9 when worn in the proper season. Ill report back.

The guy below me is accurate with saying it’s like a mix of Aventus and BR540- but not only does it have that sweetness, it has that medicinal touch. Personally, I like that. Lot of pineapple which I really enjoy. The scent is great, it’s pretty much what I thought Aventus Cologne would be when I blind-bought it a few years back. Radiates well but here’s the thing. It doesn’t last. Now some say Aventus or Aventus Cologne doesn’t last— but on my skin, I get all day performance with those in the humid southern heat. I get about 2 hours with this stuff before it’s gone. It’s still pretty good value, I paid $85.

Been wearing this for the past 8 months and I love it. It’s literally Aventus without the smokiness so you just get a sweet fresh pineapple scent with woods and vanilla in the base. Made by the same perfumer as Aventus and from his own mouth he said this idea was to be a hybrid of BR540 and Aventus. Easy to get attention with this too, got a compliment recently visiting the Dr office and the nurses couldn’t stop telling me how good I smelled. Might have to get a backup bottle too before YouTubers catch wind and then everyone floods to buy it

The opening can be little too sweet thanks to the pineapple (even tho it isnt listed as a note) and vanilla combo. But after it dries down it becomes really similar to the F batches of aventus (which i love). Musky pineapple with woody background, but without the smoke of aventus, which makes it fresher and with vanilla for the extra sweetness that just makes it more appealing. Just a better take on aventus imo, and I love aventus. Also the atomizer is amazing. Fav frag of mine rn and definitely a sig scent.

Elevator pitch - Aventus-ish minus smokey, plus berry note. Smooth tart lemon opening with a juicy pineapple as backup. Middle my favorite. Fresh Juniper with fresh pepper. Juniper note is not gin like. Pepper note is hardly spicy more like *push-up-glasses* peppercorn are also berries type of deal. All very smooth, cohesive, and refreshing. Dry down keeps some of the mid bringing in a light oakmoss ambery note. Vanilla and patchuli is mostly supportive. Overall very smooth take on a popular profile.

First of all, I love Aventus. This is a quality Aventus DNA fragrance, doing its own thing. The thing it's doing, is being much juicier in the pinapple opening, and it is generally sweeter throughout. The original Aventus is more earthy and masculine. Price-wise it's obviously in between the real deal and the clone wars. This is great value but also not cheap anymore. If you are looking for a juicy pinapple opening and a generally sweeter Aventus - Get this!

Wow, quality is INSANE for the price. Based on quality alone, I don't think I'd ever guess this was much cheaper than Aventus. Smell is definitely a little lighter, sweeter, doesn't quite have the same body of Aventus. Definitely like an Aventus flanker. Little more unisex, little less brooding. Slightly creamier. Performance is great, definitely better than a recent sample vial of aventus. I sometimes do get Lemon more than Pineapple.

Great fragrance for the price point. I smelt current creed aventus and I prefer mystery for him. First time smelling this at the store in San Francisco ZGO, I wasn’t wowed but still like it enough to order an 60 ml of it and now I want 100 ml because this juice is heat. I really find it crazy how you get a juicy pineapple, almost a candied like pineapple but it’s not listed in the notes idk but try it, buy it, if not I will.

Personally, it has the Aventus DNA in the opening, juicy and sweet pineapple with a dry down of slight musky sweetness to it. You can still smell the bit of pineapple in the dry down tho. Imo, it is their own creation, doesnt have the strong woodsy notes or smokiness like Aventus's drydown. Rather its dry down is identical to BR540 with a whiff of pineapple and without the plastic smell of BR540. I really enjoy wearing it.

My eyes literally rolled in the back of my head the second I got my nose on this. Like the reviewers said below, it’s very reminiscent of older Aventus batches....like 99% similar. I’m talking 2013-2015 Aventus, not today’s batches. It’s so damn smooth and creamy. Longevity is close to 8 hours but catch wafts closer to 12+ hours. I can’t believe I’m smelling what I never thought I’d smell again. Cheers!!!

Tasty light and fresh fruit and pineapple smell. Performance just like Aventus, not very good. A new bottle needs to open up with use, because a very new unopened bottle sprays are extremely intimate and subtle. Bright and optimistic. I would not wear this to work, not because it's unwearable, but because this smells like the first morning of a vacation day. The price is just right for how nice this is.

It genuinely makes Aventus redundant for me. I like the old Aventus with the pineapple opening, but those days are gone. I genuinely prefer this release over the current Aventus offering as I prefer the brighter more citrus forward opening. I think somebody described this as everything that the cologne should’ve been, and I’d have to agree with that. Very hard to get unless you’re in Thailand.

It’s a twisted brother of MB Explorer. Uncloying sweet pineapple opening and earthy drydown. Thought it had moderate longevity but I was wrong. I sprayed it underneath my shirt and still got the smell from it 10 hours later with the humid weather in Thailand. If Aventus is a tux brother and Explorer is a little brother with a black tee, MFH would be an older brother with a white shirt.

I tested this on a scent strip + skin at an official MITH boutique in Thailand + a small sample for a full wearing. Being an Aventus fan, I believe this is an amazing spin on Aventus. Perfumer Jean-Christophe Hérault has clearly taken what was Aventus at its peak, made it sweeter, and a little bit softer. Extremely good value for an Aventus-like scent created by the original Perfumer.

Was having a short holiday in Bangkok and while at Central World, I chanced upon the booth selling Mith's perfume. The sales assistant recommended me this and wow it was a love at first sniff. I got a sample spray on the paper and also on skin. I went elsewhere after that and while walking I can still get the scent. I returned and got a bottle :)

Same profile as Aventus maybe just a tad more on the citrus side and slightly less pineapple. Definitely worth trying and its an easy reach in warmer weather. Gets compliments! This and Claudio Zucca's Royal Verbena are currently my two go-to citrus warm weather fragrances, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. 9/10

I have literally no need to buy Aventus anymore. It’s clear this is coming from the perfumer himself. No dupe is able to imitate that pineapple sharpness that real Aventus batches have. It’s perfect and I need a backup. That’s all!

yes, truly amazing rendition in the Aventus lineage. Very bright and potent, classy and beautiful. A true banger! With Aventish, it is one of the very best Aventus-like scents i have smelled.

sweet aventus with no smoke. Its really smooth and initial spray dont smell like some citrus detergent like the other most popular clones, best quality aventus clone that I have ever tried

If you don’t like smoky smell in CDIM I recommend this stuff! fruity juicy versatile and easy to use and it doesn’t make me headache, sneezes although I have allergic rhinitis

Jean-Christophe Hérault took his Aventus, tweaked it, made it fresher, bigger and slightly sweeter. This is in the true sense of the words A BANGER. @autumnrequiem 100%

Definitely Aventus DNA, do agree with some comparisons to that initial explosion of creamy pineapple can draw comparison to BR540. A masterpiece for the price point.

aventus but lasts longer for $90 or $120. I have the small bottle but ill get a backup larger bottle soon when its restocked. This house continues to blow me away.

This is the real version of Aventus Cologne this is a lighter version of Aventus. I think he hide alit of notes he doesn’t list.

To me this is somewhat a mix between Explorer and Baccarat, giving straight up Absolu Aventus vibes. Beautiful fragrance!

In short: A sweet pineapple batch of Aventus (plus a little remnant of Sauvage). Worth checking out. First off, MITH Mystery for Him is done by Jean-Christophe Hérault, aka the perfumer of Creed Aventus himself. So let's expect and embrace the similarities here. This one is a *pineapple bomb*. Pineapple here is very juicy and sweet, almost syrupy sweet. First spray you'll get a splash of well-ripen yellow pineapple in your face. If you like pineapple notes in Aventus, you're gonna love this one. But one thing I dislike about the opening is the nose-burning Sauvage-like fizz. I guess it might come from the pepper. The main body of the fragrance is almost identical to Aventus (to the point that you can say it's just another batch variation of it). But I found base notes to be a bit different. While Aventus has well-rounded ambery base of ambergris and oakmoss, MITH base is rougher and sharper. Some part of the Sauvage-like fizz finds its way into the base somehow. Projection: This fills the room. It's almost as loud as Sauvage EDT so don't overspray or you'll cough Longevity: Solid 8-10 hours. I consistently get an all-day long performance. In my opinion, I'd say this is the best alternative for Aventus. Best bang for your bucks. - CDIN (and its other middle-eastern friends) = Too sharp, too smoky, and obviously too synthetic-smelling - MB Explorer = Not really an Aventus... That's bergamot, not pineapple - Nishane Hacivat = Too much oakmoss (but it's really good on its own) - Alexandria Fragrance = You can tell the discrepancy in quality So I think this is the best deal if you want Aventus but for a fraction of its price

Full disclosure - I think Aventus is the single most overrated perfume of the 21st century. It's just not that great, and it never was. With all the clones out there, it's also no longer unique in any sense of the word. It's niche perfumery for those with very commercial tastes. And of course, it's preposterously expensive and you end up paying for the BS Creed image more than what's actually in the bottle. Now that I've said all that, I actually kinda like Mystery for Men. There's no denying that this is 80-90% identical to Aventus. A bit less smoky, a bit fruitier. I suppose I perceive the patchouli a bit more in Mystery. It absolutely feels like Herault is simply tinkering with this formula at the margins. I really dislike the trend towards "dupe" perfumery, but this an easy wear if you're looking for a safe and versatile scent. Bottom line - if you absolutely feel the need to scratch the Aventus itch, buy this instead. It's incredibly similar and feels of decent quality. It's also about one-third the price, so save the extra $ for something more compelling.

Im not sure why, but I get more Hacivat vibes than Aventus. The pineapple top is generous and lovely. My only criticism is that it has a milky character in the beginning, a lactone character. Fortunately, it is short lived and then it segues into that familiar mossy drydown of Hacivat. I was bewildered when I saw the BR540 comparison, but I could consider it with all the oakmossyness of this and this comes across as sweeter than Hacivate. But it's nothing like the candy-floss level of Br540, not really close. I think it's nice and I'd say far superior to the supposed clone, Afnan Not only Intense. That comes across as too gummy and synthetic. This is one is pretty nice and may scratch a Hacivat itch.

Consider this a more simplified, refined take on Aventus by the original perfumer. Reminds me of the original Aventus batches from 2010/2011. Very accurate to the note pyramid. Less pineapple, more citrusy. Juniper and jasmine in the middle. Kinda creamy dry down that reminds me of Cedrat Boise. Totally masculine. Amazing value for the price.

This is, essentially, Aventus and br540, nothing more, nothing less. Still, it’s worth trying. Jean Christophe is a phenomenal perfumer and his blending is fantastic. Performance is good. Longevity is solid at 8 to 10 hours, projection is more intimate.

No birch, no cedar, ZERO smoke etc. To say "This is EXACTLY the same as vintage Aventus" is to admit you never smelled the OG, or at least any bottle before say... 2016! Even then, it's a real stretch. A real stretch. It's ok, period stop. Its not the be all end all, its not taking the place of the real thing. Its a solid pretender, and weve seen plenty before now. Performance isn't great, its about average. You can get other clones for 40 bucks that are in the same ballpark. Why spend 100+? It's hysterical to me though, all those 25-50 dollar clones everybody touted as exact copies and meanwhile ppl are hyping this one that's at least double the price if not more. Quite amusing. If all those other clones, were better than Aventus, why spend that extra cash and hype this one? Oh, because that's always what the fragrance community / TikTok ppl do. 😗 That said Today's SOTD is the one true king. Aventus, and a true VINTAGE bottle, you know the ones that had smoke from birch tar. 😆😆

I bought it from glin dee - waited 2 weeks for it to arrive and I must to say I expected something else. First of all it opens up nice - with aventus and baccarat scents but when its drydown its missing character and personality- just feels like i am sorry i am saying but pee. I dont know why. That was my first initial take, now it was macerating for a bit and I will give it a try next month. But again, i dont think it will improve but there is a lot of missing character and doesnt fill you with WOW its just mehh not worth it.

While this does smell like Aventus, being created by the same perfumer. It has hints of the same sweetness coming from BR540. This is like a sweeter and lighter (lighter doesn't mean weaker) take on Aventus if anything, and more suited for tropical countries like where this was released in; Thailand. Overall great dupe!

While the opening of this one is very good (a syrupy pineapple vanilla bomb), it quickly develops into an overly sweet, bubblygummy mess The hype is not real!!! If you're not a fan of extremely sweet scents, stay away

Meh, it’s not bad but it is way way overhyped. From my sample, I’d say BR540 x Aventus is fairly accurate. It’s a sweeter more candy like and simplified Aventus. Very unisex, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s feminine but women could easily pull this off. Leans younger. Personally it’s not full bottle worthy Projection and longevity are average. There’s dozens of Aventus inspirations that match or surpass this one which cost half the price or less.

I bought a 100ml from the site, and traded for a 60ml in the facebook groups, so I am testing multiple bottles of this stuff for this review. If you're an Aventus fan, you must try it -- just picked it up earlier today, 100ml bottle, and writing this after 1 hour of applying. The juice looks slightly darker in the 100ml bottle, makes sense ... It at first is so concentrated it confuses your nose like emperor maximus extrait or a 2015 batch that is slightly sour as the scent envelope unpacks itself, and not as dynamic as Aventus, which is a bit initially underwhelming. A vanilla aventus. I agree with sentiments below, not pineapple but being more a lemony, ambery fizz and being synthetic, would clap much longer than Aventus -- the stuff does last a long, long time. But after you accept it for what it is -- a top-note, lighter fragrance in and of itself -- as it sits on your skin and warms up, it begins to radiate what would be that somewhat wonderfully cooling, chemical top note in Aventus we've come to know and desire -- not 1:1, but definitely similar. And that's it, what the frag is all about. I say it's worth the money for the experience. I bet item gets better with age or macerates as air enters into the bottle. Also, as you have more topical area applied, it would unpack and creates a scent bubble on your skin that would generate wafts of that cooling top note. Creates a powerful scent bubble, for sure. I find layering the stuff on top of itself oddly adds depth, and a bit more smokey/cooler to the nose touch. I wish there was a bit more going on in the fragrance. I'm curious what to layer this with. As I'm listening to the scent, I am going periodically nose blind, and then catch whiffs of it reminding me that I'm wearing something ... I can imagine this being strong at first from the outside looking in, and would be careful about overappyling in office settings, as that sweeter top note could be cloying. I came home from work, and my wife said it was still noticeable. A+. Edit: top 5 fragrance.

The era of clones is officially over! Herault has at last revisited his classic & given us the definitive respin of Aventus. Granted there's nothing here you haven't smelled before but boy it's great to have this scent restored to it's former glory. This is basically what Aventus became in the later years but an improvement over what's being pumped out today at a fraction of the cost (lol). Mystery for Him opens with an explosion of bright, fizzy, juicy pineapple (laughable that pineapple isn't listed in the notes). It's dank, sweet, fruity and smells almost exactly how the better batches of Aventus opened around 2015-2018. While it lacks some of the woody backbone there's still a pleasing depth to go along with the candied pineapple. It may be fair to call this Aventus-lite as it lacks some of the bells & whistles (the musk) and doesn't project as loud but the core DNA is unmistakable. Juniper berry steps in to create a fruityness where we used to have apple & blackcurrant but the effect is very similar. Nor do we have birch or the big dose of ISO E Super that came to characterize later batches but there's just enough woodyness & vanilla to give the same glazed, charred pineapple smell. So to conclude, this is not an Aventus clone. To call it a clone would be an insult as it's the original creator coming back & perfecting the pineapple note to create a lighter, sweeter take on the DNA (for reference all changes post-2010 were via Creed's tinkering). Having smelled almost all the clones/inspired bys out there it's incredibly obvious this is the real deal. It's not that it's 'close' it's EXACT in the aspects of the original it brings to the table. And get this it doesn't have the nose-blinding issue people complain about with modern Aventus! The only curious thing is how it's been released in the Asian market for the equivalent of $50 for 60mls. I can only hazard a guess the folk at Creed wouldn't be too amused if something like this released right under their noses, so to speak.

This is the closest to my aventus decant. It really is like 1:1 to me. I get the bac rogue vibe too though (on both my aventus and this). This dances and disappears a tad more than aventus though. This is by far the closest to aventus though that I’ve tried and it makes sense considering the perfumer. This is actually a genius take on baccarat rogue (fleeting glue ghost to my nose) because the pineapple note just keeps on flickering instead of disappearing completely (for my nose) like baccarat rogue. I’m buying a bottle, putting it in my top tier lineup and ending the aventus chase for good.
