Bois de Mysore

Can I swear in Fragrantica reviews? I don’t think I can. If I could, I would only need one word with four letters. This fragrance has me ready to shout from my window. A bright, fizzy opening (think popping the tab to a $260 orange soda) riled up by a lush violet that sinks into a beautiful, creamy sandalwood with jasmine clinging to the arm of cardamom. Yes, the jasmine is a bit indollic, but I don't care. I don't caaaaaaare. It ties up the whole composition perfectly. Did you know a fragrance can scratch an itch? This one certainly did for me.

Beautiful sandalwood, very classy and realistic. Individual notes are "masterfully blended" to create an elegant accord of precious sandalwood. It is creamy, sour, gently spicy, floral and aromatic. Kinda raw: an indolic jasmine helps a lot in this direction. I love it, I think it's on par with Santalvm by ProFvmvm Roma as my favorite sandalwood scent, although they are very different, Bois de Mysore being a lot more floral. Great great stuff.

I would like to say that the tangerine in this perfume hangs around for almost the full life. It should be higher up in the prominence as shown on Fragrantica. I smell a green sandalwood and neroli as well. It's a very well made perfume and it borrows from Sacred Wood by Kilian but it is much more interesting. Longevity is about 7-9hr, performance is very good for a scent of this type (fresh)

Dry orange woods. A dusty sandalwood christened with a pithy orange and dried cardamom. I don't much pick up on the floral notes, it's a very woody experience. Moderately soft projection for ~2hr, longevity 8-10hr. Despite the name, the official note breakdown does state that it is Ceylon sandalwood and makes no claim as to the presence of Mysore.

Bois de Mysore, I don’t love it...but I’m on the fence. It is similar to Stash but I pick up a chemical note in the opening, like furniture polish in a room full of leather chairs. It’s oily, spicy and rubbery, and unwearable for me. There’s citrus here too but it’s overshadowed by the unlisted note. Someone mentions Oud in their review and I get the same vibe (def. synthetic Oud). A pass for me personally, though I can imagine this working on the right person.

Looking at the notes I thought this would be an immediate love for me. I would say that this leans pretty masculine for my nose. The opening leans on musk, violet leaf, and neroli for me. I have to wait about an hour to get the tangerine and cardamon, which is a lovely mix. I don’t get much of the jasmine or sandalwood. This is a woody, orangey, and floral scent. It’s nice but it’s not for me.

First note is the spice. then Lots of wood and sandalwood. Not smelling the orange on me. I think this is a great male frag. UPDATE: 5 hours have passed and now it's dried down to a subtler wood/Jas blend...it's very nice. Still masculine but leaning into its fem. I like it. update: nearly 24 hours later and I can still smell this faintly on my skin. wow!

This isn’t for me. Seems classy and fairly safe but I’m unfortunately in the camp of reviewers who can’t get any tangerine or cardamom from this. The florals don’t really appeal to me and the wood is just ok.

On me this opens sort of a dirty sandalwood. Not in the recently sharpened pencil type of way, but rather more of a resinous aroma akin to auto grease, for lack of a better description. I've noticed this smell in several sandalwood fragrances I've tried. Not sure how common that is; some of the fragrances develop into a more pleasant sandalwood and others smell dirty throughout my wear. However, Bois de Mysore is quick to develop away from the dirty smell and into a soft and just absolutely stunning sandalwood. There are hints of citrus and maybe white florals, but it is so finely blended that those notes play only a supportive role here. They serve simply to refine the sandalwood, not compete. It's a blissful harmony. I must must MUST have a bottle, it is maybe in my top five fragrances of all time. It makes me deliriously happy when I smell it, I keep tucking my face down in my turtleneck to smell myself lol.

I tried this one in a popular shop in Italy, got a 2ml sample too. I have smelt real sandalwood which I have with me (from Mysore) and compared it with Bois de Mysore. I must say, it’s pretty much spot on! Could have been maybe a little creamier but it smells almost the same to me. I would use this to layer with citrus or floral fragrances in the Summer. It has a decent longevity of 7-8 hours on clothes. Not a beast. It’s very pleasant and professional, could also be an easy grab for office settings.

I know Mysore Sandalwood and there is no Mysore in this . So many perfumers lie and claim they use Mysore only they don’t . Mysore is now VERY rare and VERY VERY expensive. Once you have smelt Mysore, u will always be able to detect it in any fragrance. Most ppl just don’t know and that’s what these perfumers count on. The ignorance of their customers.

I feel like there is oud in this, definitely has a "dirty" aspect some have mentioned. Maybe even a little smoke or leather. Masculine, strong, spicy. A little old school and just a little juicy from citrus. ** 200 samples up for swap UK - check my custom shelf, pm me for a bundle swap! **

The opening blast is obnoxious, headache inducing aldehydic throwback to 80s women’s perfumes. Once the scent settles it smells like raw sandalwood and sawdust, but what ruins the scent for me are the lingering florals that never quite disappear. This is unwearable to me.

This is basically SJP Stash. Same smell. 5 x the price.
