Asian Bakery

Smells very authentic, as if I just walked into a warm Asian bakery in the morning right after they set out their fresh pastries. Pure nostalgia. The opening was very alcohol-y and sharp but it dried down into its true colors very quickly. This scent leans very slightly sweet on me but there's a little bit of savory yeastiness/saltiness/butteriness that makes it very realistic. I can understand that one may not want to smell like bread but (in the very brief time it projected) I got compliments on it and people asked if I had any pastries on me lol. I just wish this lasted more than an hour on skin :(

It smells like a hot, buttered, salted pretzel to me. It made me smile and my eyes widen when I smelled it because it's very photorealistic. I thought of Auntie Anne's pretzels, but that's only because I have never had the pleasure of being in an Asian bakery. I can see how the salted, buttery, yeast notes encapsulate such a place. I would not want to smell like this though, but I will keep a sample to enjoy on a test strip every now and then. This fragrance is where art and science supercede practicality and wearability. Moderate sillage and weak to moderate longevity. I rated it as a like because it is exactly what it says it is and it delivers that very well. I can't judge it for smelling like a literal Asian bakery (or Auntie Anne's), because that's what it's supposed to be.

This is fine. I love Mochiglow's Bubble Tea (enough to buy a full-size) and my partner loves it, too. So I was amped to try Asian Bakery, hoping for a bit more flour and milk than sweetness. While it IS less sweet than Bubble Tea, it's...I don't know. Unremarkable? It certainly wouldn't offend anyone, but it doesn't wow me. The drydown smelled like Playdough to my nose, but that could be the flour (Playdough is made up of flour and mineral oil, right?) I'm still going to try out the rest of their scents from the Desserts & Tea sample pack, but this one didn't scratch where I itch, unlike Bubble Tea. If you like gourmands that aren't as juvenile as the cheap ones, check it out.

This fragrance evokes a deep sense of nostalgia in me. It smells like sweet yeasted dough, and the yeast note is unmistakable. Whenever I inhale it, I’m instantly reminded of my childhood, when my grandmother would knead dough in the kitchen to bake fresh bread. Soon, the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread would fill the entire apartment, while the windows fogged up from the heat of the oven. It’s a very warm, cozy, and truly homey fragrance.

Buttery brown flaky croissant and dough about to be put in the oven. This is photorealistic so many would not probably want to actually smell like this. It settled as a skin scent on me with a faint milk present on the dry down. I've been wearing it on slow lazy mornings with coffee. Will work well with gourmandy lotions or body mists (pistachio,brown sugary, marshmallow, vanilla, chocolatey, caramel)

At first I thought this smelled like alcohol, but after I kept wearing it I couldn't stop smelling it. It smells very yeasty, like fresh soft milk bread from a Japanese bakery. A good cozy nighttime perfume.

specifically reminds me of hong kong bakery pastries. like the bread of the hot dog bun that’s slightly glazed and crisp. how did they capture this so perfectly??

I appreciate Mochiglow but this one is not my favorite of their collection. I had really high hopes for it— absolutely loved the concept and wanted to find something that evoked buttery, edible, warm, baked bread. Where this falls short for me is that the main note I get from this is *yeast* so it smells like unbaked dough. It also smells a little sour— maybe like unbaked sourdough bread with a few sesame seeds sprinkled on top... and I can’t imagine that I will want to smell like that very often at all. It’s an extremely unique perfume so for that I still think it’s impressive, but if you are hoping for the smell of freshly baked bread like I was, you may want to sample it first. I am still hoping to use it by layering it with other perfumes but on its own might be hard for me to pull off.

this sets up right away like fresh yeasty bread and but then within 3 seconds turns very strange on me, briefly lactonic, then grape leaves or grape pulp that might someday ferment into wine but is several years from that happy event. after that it just...vanishes. like nose shoved against my wrist and it was simply...gone. i still prefer Poesie's Village Bakery which also has almost no sillage but at least stays smelling like a pastry? i'll let it macerate and test again in 3 months.

Maybe i opened it a bit too early than the recommended time, but at first it smelled amazing! It was buttery, warm, bready, but later becomes...oddly licorice like and minty.

Reviewing for original formulation. This is one of those fragrances that heavily goes in the direction of art and not necessarily something to be worn to be pleasant for people around you. It captures its namesake very well but not in the way most would imagine. More like the back of the house in a bakery where dough is in the mixer and racks of buns are in the proofing oven. The yeasty note is overpowering above all else and difficult to really get a nose on the other notes. I imagine someone that might appreciate this fragrance if they have a nostalgic feeling towards yeast, perhaps as a former baker or child who’s parents owned a bakery and spent a lot of time in the back while growing up. Even as someone that has spent their fair share of time in a bakery I can only stomach this if I layer it with a vanilla/gourmand base first. As I understand it, the newer formulation is sweeter and more lactonic in order to balance out the cooked portion of said bakery which is what imagined this was going to be from the start.

No idea what version I have, didn't realize there was a reformulation. Like others said, the yeast note is overpowering and smells like vomit. Instant scrubber. For a second it smelled a lot like the BBW French bread candle, which I love. So an artificial smelling approximation of a bakery. I am still on the hunt for a true bakery scent. What a bummer.

This is for the original formulation: it’s VERY yeasty to the point it smells like vomit. I don’t find this scent to be comforting or warm, I find this scent to be pretty gross

*my sample has been sitting for 3+ months. not sure if that plays a big role in this fragrance, but i have noticed time can play a big role in making affordable fragrances smell smoother than it does with more expensive fragrances. honestly, don't rely on the notes too heavily for this one. this is in no way complex bread with salt and butter, it's very much a straightforward sugared bread. the bread accord is very dough-y (which i really love), but there's a lactonic sweetness that i recognize from other fragrances from this brand (the same sweetness is present in their taro ice cream and bubble tea fragrance). it's pleasant! i think i'll add to my wishlist because it's kinda cool to have a pleasant and wearable, doughy perfume. :)

This is yeasty, salty, smells a little like warm milk but not in a great way. The butter and yeast is very realistic and also very much not something that smelled great on my skin. BUT!! The drydown was decent. I would not want to smell like this pretty much ever, but it was at least interesting to try out.

On paper, it really does smell like my favorite Asian bakery. I get all the sweet and bready notes. Would make a fantastic room scent. But it turns out I cannot *wear* a yeast note. It dominates everything else and smells horrendoes in it's own unique way.
