Molinard Musc is a perfume I gifted to myself for my birthday in 2019. It was also my first touch with the great and old house of Molinard from Grasse, France. What attracted me the most about Musc was the affordability of the brand and interesting notes that seemed like they would be right in my alley. Lovely stuff, highly recommended even to the musk haters since this is a quite interesting experience. The nag champa, head shop in cornwall, hippie association is obvious but why not? I love it quite a lot and it gives a much more enjoyable edge to musk. After a pretty brief opening note of citrus and jasmine, the scent becomes a lovely skanky sexy musk, with sweet undertones of vanilla and amber. Patchouli here is pretty huge but it's so lovely (and I'm not a regular patchouli fan) and so sweetly well blended with everything else that's impossible not to fall in love. I have many perfumes from Molinard and I've never been disappointed: they are doing what a quality brand should be doing, creating simply brilliant work.

I agree completely with the nag champa incense. The smell of a head shop or hippie vinyl record store. My hubs said "It smells like grape cotton candy in Bob Marleys dressing room." The opening has a grape fruity note. It moves into the nag champa phase quickly and there even was a brief sour metallic almost cat pee note that I endured. It wasn't off putting oddly enough, just strange. Then the drydown which pretty much just smells of incense. If you missed the summer of free love and daisy headbands then this is for you. It's groovy hippie juice.

I read a review of this fragrance on a Facebook group for fragrance lovers and it was referred to as smelling like a "head shop." Growing up in a liberal, college town in the late 60s early 70s left me with a love of fragrances reminiscent of that era. I blind bought this (my first blind buy ever). I could not wait to put it on once it arrived and it was love at first smell, which lasted maybe thirty minutes, and then nothing. I absolutely adore this fragrance but I am going to have to figure out a way to make it last on my skin.

Molinard is an amazing Niche House with high-quality fragrances for an affordable price. I recently discovered it and I am in awe. Musc is a unique take on Musk's fragrances. Smells deep rich and balsamic like a boho Indian Shop from the ’90s. Longevity and sillage are outstanding. Not a crowd-pleasing kinda fragrance but definitely for those who love unique niche-like scents. My goal is to buy every single one from the Collection Matieres Les Elements. This shows how much I am deeply impressed with Molinard. @deepgreenbeauty

This could have very well have been named Opoponax Labdanum. The opening is a delicious syrupy concord grape (methyl anthranilate, perhaps the intention was to impart orange flower, but its all Grape Crush to my nose, in the best possible way). This gives way to the opoponax, all toffee-like with a dash of savory. However, it's worth noting that entire fragrance seems to use a fractional distillation of labdanum like ambrarome or dynarome, all dusty, animalic, and tenacious. 'C'est ne pas une musc.' 8.5/10

First and foremost if you are looking for a "hippie" fragrance look no further, The patchouli, amber and musk combine to make the beautiful "Nag champs" like scent without the smoke ....the opening will throw you off but give it a minute initial spray will smell similar to grape soda and five minutes later you feel like you could be watching Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, if you like Nag Champa you will not be disappointed, it's not a loud fragrance in any means but it does seem to last most of the day

Rich, enveloping, persistent ... a complex, mostly balsamic bouquet with fruity floral notes between frangipane and strawberry grapes. Molinard is a perfume house distant a thousand light years away from all the famous and notorious niches which often offer cheap fragrances at unreasonable prices. molinard combines a very high quality and originality at reasonable prices. The Grasse show room is a place where you can lose yourself in fragrances and dreamy atmospheres. well done Molinard!

From my amateur nose perspective, there are three different musk in this fragrance world; the real musk, the easy white musk, and the musk from Molinard. Yes Musc EdP from Molinard is different than any type of musk, it's intertwined and mingling with heavy but smooth patchouli. There's also something resinous but sweet benzoin or frankincense or opoponax that smells so good and comforting. IG @fragranceisindividual

Dear Lord I adore Molinard and have numerous bottles. For some reason, I've waited a while to buy this one. And it's my favourite! There's a distinct nutmeg note here and it's totally my vibe. Don't get anything pissy at all just pure spice and I love it. As with all the Molinards, smells far more expensive than it is. Definitely an Autumn/Winter fragrance. Big love 10/10 for me.

I love this. Sillage is heavy and it lasts for over eight hours on my (dry) skin. It is indestructible on clothing, so be careful where you spray it, unless you don't mind smelling like a hippy shop in Cornwall which sells tie-dye clothing, incense and wooden dope boxes with brass inlay on the lid. And wind chimes.

Wow, this is something I have been looking for so long. This enormous rich beauty that smells like incense... Its practically the same as oils that I used to buy in Indian shops in nineties. This perfume can also be layered- I tried Guerlain l'instant magic and its absolutely amazing... velvety magic

Sweet bubblegum type of scent with something animalic underneath. Interesting! It’s like a fluffy cloud of musk, flowers and tender sweetness, but then you have something woody and a bit skunky in the sillage (I believe it might be patchouli that gives that effect). Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Absolutely brilliant, deep blended mix of resins, amber , musk and incense. Some may say it smells vintage but who cares. It's delicious, seductive and mysterious

This smells like a head shop and a Halloween shop mixed together! Semi sweet musk with a tiny bit of spice. So good. Easily my favorite musk. 7/10

Whoa Nelly, this is Nag Champa incense in a bottle! I love it!

So, Im sitting her utterly dissapointed and perplexed bc I purchased Molinard mainley bc of these reviews folks have left which RAVE about the longevity, and uniquess of Molinard Musc. Sadly Im quite dissapointed bc the perfor.ance is really bad at the moment. Its very faint and does NOT seem to last very long at all in spite of what many of these reviews claim. I do like the actual scent, but again, quite shot-lived, about an hour or 2 tops of a faint scent. I REALLY, REALLY hope that this scent changes DRASTICALLY soon, bc $56 is NOT chump change! Anyhow.. Fingers Crossed and here's hoping. GRRRR😡 ‐----------------Edit---------------- Yeah, so I overreacted a bit OK! Lol! So it took about a week to open up, looks like my bottle just needed some air in it so it could "Oxidize". Its very smooth, NO harsh perfumer's alcohol blast in the opening. Im definately getting a bunch of Patchouli in the opening, which quickly transitions into a "grape soda vibe", I also see what folks mean about the Nag Champa incense vibe which makes this fragrance super unique. Although easily pulled off by us fellas, I feel that this fragrance is unisex with a lean to the feminine. Also, NOT that Molinard's Musc smells anything like these scents, but this kind of unique dna sorta reminds me of those great, "epic" 80's/90's fragrances like Dior's poison, Ysl's Opium or Calvin Klein's Obsession. It has excellent performance, about 8 hours on skin and days on clothes with really good projection, Id done just one spritz on the back of my hand to test it, and kept getting hit in the face by the BEAUTIFUL scent. Again, super unique and yeah, "Hippy-ish" I suppose, yet "Hippy nor Headshop" are words what immediately come to mind when I smell this. Great scent!

Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions! Blind Buy after reading reviews. First time I sprayed this on skin, (first spray out of the bottle), the opoponax/patchouli incense smell was overpowering in the dry down and headache inducing - I wanted to wash it off my skin! I felt disappointed, and was regretting the purchase. A couple of days later, I decided to try it again, and what a difference! It was much smoother and sexier. Life lesson: give em' a second chance! Beautiful niche scent! Something I would wear as a base layer and can work year round. However, certainly not a safe blind-buy, especially when playing with patchouli and incense! Key Opening notes: grape soda, slight salty plum Key Heart/Base Dry Down notes: warm powdery salty nag champa Projection/Sillage: not loud on me, more of a base Longevity: lasts all day

I don't know why it's called musc, it should be named Nag Champa. Some days, it really smells like incense from indian shops. It's up to you to decide if it's a pro or a con. On other days, it smells more like bubblegum. But it has its uniqueness, it's kind of a hippie perfume. When you're in the mood for a trip bacl to the 70s, it will perfectly fit. I really like it, although I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis. It can also be interesting to layer it, for instance with patchouli, to make the ultimate hippie scent. Last very long on clothing, not so much on my skin but the latter is very dry and seems to absorb any perfume at an alarming rate, which is a curse for my budget. Certainly not a safe blind buy for those looking for a musk scent (especially a clean one), but interesting and unique. 7/10

This is quite an interesting fragrance. To me it's a good one for ladies. Men can pull it off too I guess. Projects very good and longevity is substantial. Gentleman original to my nose is the masculine version of this or I should have said it the other way around. The only fragrance that this reminds me is that. Quite a unique fragrance. If you have a collection then you may want to add this; otherwise, you can ignore it. This is one of those fragrances that you can pick all listed notes pretty much in the listed order. Neroli and bergamot would disappear shortly after opening. The rest of the notes would linger there and project for hours. Go easy on the trigger and do not spray on your clothes because it will stay there for days.

Like people have stated before, this is a very incensy scent - like esoteric stores, like nag champa. It is not your mother's musk, no cleanliness, no shower vibes, no "like your skin, but better". I get A LOT of the traditional Molinard vanilla with the patchouli and opoponax that makes it reminisce of incense. I was looking for something exactly like this, not a scent that contained incense but a full blown incense scent. Bingo! I was sparingly wearing my Pilar & Lucy's Tiptoeing thought the chambers of the moon, as I can't get a place that delivers to my country - although they are not exactly dupes, I believe will fill this void. Edit: do you guys also feel a Cacharel’s Eden vibe?

Speaking of musk, to me this isn’t a clean laundry scent, but something that reminds me of of the musk from Kouros believe it or not. When it dries down, which happens rather quickly, this edp becomes a familiar yet comforting scent of incense, patchouli and resinous amber. Molinard Musc is very much like Nag Champa and very Hippie. ✌️ I just can’t stand the grape 🍇 candy 🫤 that seems to linger on clothing.

Woody musk. This is about equal parts opopanax as it is musk. The opopanax is woody & a tad spicy. However, it, the opopanax, is different here than the probably the most famous opopanax fragrance: Amouage Interlude. They don't smell alike. The smell is soft, warm, balsamic smell of of spicy woody musk. I know those are a lot of adjectives but that is how it smells. It's not soapy nor gives that "clean" fragrance that certain musks give. But rather warm & cozy. Very Arabic/Middle Eastern. If any of you guys have been to the traditional markets (souqs) in the Middle East, you've probably smelled something like this. Winter/Mature wear. "Like"

I just added this to my collection as I was looking for a more incense type of fragrance. As multiple other reviews have stated this smells exactly like nag champa. on first spray on me it smells like grape pop, very sweet and grape like then it settles into nag champa. I am instantly reminded of my favorite store, Earthbound trading company, I just love the way it smells. Very boho, hippie, care free. That being said I did have a friend tell me I smell like a grandma, but personally i don't get that at all.

Harsh at opening so I let it oxidize 2 months later Love it .neroli bergamot.bam Patchouli amber vanilla, it’s all there. Apopomax and benzoin holding it together. Musk the whole way. So well blended love it. And I’m getting crayons... In a good way How is this so simple but vastly different from others like it? It’s mysterious and strangely addictive Missing waxy note.... Magnolia? Beeswax? Don’t care. Gorgeous

Headshop-type amber, with incense sticks glowing and all. On its own that might be a tired cliche, but Musc is a very big and complex smelling take on said familiar scenario which ends up working beautifully as a perfume. The muskiness here can be perceived as a furry warmth. People would pay higher prices if this was released under a different brand name.

Warm, ambery, soft, cozy. Hints of vanilla, benzoin, and patchouli. Tiny bit of animalic. Very nice. Not my type of bright refreshing scent, but a very classy ambery musk. Will be a regular test, not so much bc I'd buy it but bc it's a nice reference point for classy clean musk. Scent: 7 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

Wow! grape candy like Jasmine with a core of musk and incense! sweet florals notes, big musk, heavy dose of Nag Champa incense, this scent is very intense but smooth and somewhat cozy, like a big fur coat in a winter's night. I don't get any pissy notes. It is very well done and a very underrated scent.

Starts out like grape cough syrup and incense, then the oppoponax comes out full strength. I'm waiting on the patchouli, but so far this has been a great ride. I'm not sure what the musc part smells like, if I'm getting it at all.

Patchouli and resins, sweetened with grape flavoured Kool Aid. It makes me think of a fruity incense that I'd say is like Nag Champa as others have mentioned. It's medicinal, almost like Calpol. This all sits on a very dark musky furry base. Like a deer at Woodstock. It was the apparent heavy musky facet of this that drew me to this fragrance and seek out getting a sample. I enjoy things that are sweet and animalic, but I hadn't really seen a musk dominant scent that wasn't coupled with florals, so I had to try it. That said I'm not entirely sure I am on board with what's going on here. Whilst it's clearly doing the right thing by not being an overly complex composition, because after all it would seem counterintuitive to busy a fragrance that is focused around the concept of musk; It feels like a bold move to link up such sweet and resinous notes with a fur-smelling musk that I would more expect to find in a floral fragrance. Even in it's simplicity, the fur musk feels drowned out by it's sweetness. I feel like this fragrance could benefit from the addition of civet to help wrap up the sweet notes to sit on top of it's musky characteristics. All this has made me crave is to wear Marlou Carnicure instead, as that is a fragrance that really highlights musk as a note, but without drowning it out.

Tested one spray behind each ear. If you have ever been to a show where they use fake smoke/fog, this is what it instantly smelled like to me - sweet, artificial fruit (grape). Also similar to how vape users can often smell. This smell remained throughout. Tested again, one spray to the back of my hands. This time I got spicy, salty amber - what I was hoping for all along. Unfortunately this only lasted about ten minutes before turning into fog machine/vape juice smell. Will keep this bottle in the car to use as a car scent as this seems more appropriate. I love musk and I really enjoy Molinard’s Habanita and Les Elements line. After much anticipation, my Molinard Musc finally arrived! I sprayed it on my wrist, brought my nose near, and recoiled. Somehow this reminds me of the cheap pink liquid hand soap in public washrooms in Asia. Synthetic and cloying. Must be the neroli. I never met a musk I didn’t like but this is horrific. Waited for it to settle down and it did a bit. The patchouli and amber started to show through. I waited but it became very faint. Wth a leap of faith, I sprayed again. It was not as pungent as the first time, and the notes are a little more floral vs synthetic. It settled down into a soft amber. Not much musk but I can live with it.

Not a safe blind buy TBH, but luckily i like Amber so i like this Its warm, Cozy, kind of relaxing. The SPL is moderate like 4-6 hours then you can respray, and i dont mind to respray because, for the niche fragrance to be this affordable, sweetie..., in into it. Overall: 7.5/10

I tried this both on paper and on skin. This was a "face your fears" exercise for me, as I don't normally like musk. In shot - the opening notes are gorgeous, light, and just a little soapy. There is a smooth bergamot/white flower combo with a solid creamy background note (amber+musk?). However, the pleasant part for me was over in 15 minutes, when the amber, patchouli, opoponax combo came in more prominently, turning the fragrance into a powdery - musky concoction. The amber got cloyingly sweet (not a fan of amber either), and the musk turned into an industrial cleaning musk to my nose. I am not a fan of this, especially since the dry down was getting even more powdery and musky. Sadly the exercise did not prove successful..

It seems Molinard has reformulated their scents. Here is another one with a different note profile than what is listed here. The notes are now - Top - Nutmeg, Bergamot,Juniper Berries Heart - Incense, Patchouli, Teakwood Base - Musk, Amber, Labdanum The label has changed too. No longer a white label. Now the name is printed directly on the bottle. I haven't tried either version. I am confused as to what version the reviewers are referring to here. It would be nice if the reviewers would let us know that information when leaving their reviews.

Oh no, it’s hard to post a negative review for a brand I like and with such a highly rated perfume, but Musc can only be described as a “sweet urine” scent on my skin. The opening is too much nasty. Going to have to wash this off as I can’t get past the opening. Edit: Twenty minutes after application, Musc does get better and easier to wear — and I’m understanding the hippy headshop references in some of the reviews below. Still a pass for me.

i really thought i d like it..not!i own ambre which i found just ok but compare to this is excellent.indeed smells like a nag chamba.i hope ii find a friend who will like it because i want to get rid of it asap.my second blind buy gone bad..

Sorry this is not for me.. i was blind buy.. i thought it was nice scent.. but wrong.. it's very bold scent, vanilla isn't there.. this frag for 50th years old people... Make me headache.. If i sale this frag.. would you buy? 😁 #indonesia

One of my first if not the first incensy fragrance. Purchased this at least good 6 years ago and had my on and off moments with it. Got it only based on reviews which were few back than and it sure surprised me. In a good and well in a different way I guess... This line already has a fragrances called Patchouli, Patchouli Intense, Patchouli Vanille etc... and this could easily be called Patchouli Musk... to my nose is all about patchouli. And a very earthy one. That was something I had to get used to. This bitter, earthy - dirt like note seemed so off alongside more sweet, resenous, ambery, balsamic notes. But at the same time it made fragrance more dimensional and interesting. At that time I did not have a full on collection and I wore it more often than I would if I had an option to grab something else in this genre. Slowly it kind of became a part of me. I remember wearing it one summer all the time and falling in love with it. To sum it up~ I see this scent for a carefree or difficult/going through summer, meeting new people, festivals, being by yourself, journaling, reading about human nature, introspective,...sure it feels witchy and hippy like but really think the whole mindstate not just a free people dress.

Trippy mix of medicinal fruit, camphor, resins, incense, musk and a bit of pee. Another fun and theatrical circus tent fragrance by Molinard. "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" - a 1968 concert movie and album shot on a phony big top set on a sound stage in Wembley. Barbara Hulanicki and Biba, her hippie, deco/lux peacock-feathered department store. Molinard Musc has these vibes. Bubblegum, white fudge, grape syrup on shaved ice, sweet champagne, big cats and pee soaked hay, sweaty rock stars just back from the Ashram, in perfumed velvet and silk. Pure organic narcotics - cocaine powder, poppy flower. Apply heavily for a magic carpet ride.

Wow! One spritz and I'm in my favorite old "imports" store. Scent memory is such a cool experience when it happens. I'm guessing it's the patchouli and oppoponax combining to make this incense smell? In the air it's all incense, I don't get the grape soda thing people are talking about. Up close it definitely gets a little animalic. I wouldn't say pissy but it's a dirtier musk than you usually get. Edit @aspirina haha we both said wow! Another edit: OMG this stuff is STRONG. I put two sprays on my hand and it's just blasting my nose. I have other stuff I wanted to.smell but I'm going to have to wait, nothing can compete with this.

Lovely, smooth and sweet. Definitely has a hint of incense/ nag champa to it, and the sweetness does indeed have a whiff of that floral smelling artificial grape... but this doesn't let the fragrance down at all. (nor does it make it smell 'synthetic'). There is something animalic happening here, but, as this is a musky situation, I wouldn't expect any nuclear projection or loud screeching. Still, this perfume is palpable, leaving a pleasing trail and enveloping you in a soft and warm musc glow. Sometimes, the patchouli starts to smell like the scent of being outdoors on a damp cold morning (waking up in a tent?) Very into it!

If you are looking for attention and something unique, this is it. But it may scare some people away. Description of a head shop is really correct so I don't think that it is office friendly, unless you want to embrace with your coworker that you're a true hippie. I tend to like a fragrance more when it dries down, but for this one, I would say that the opening is better, It smells like toothpaste at first then quickly turns into what it is. Another thing, this is my first Molinard fragrance and I'm impressed with their bottle quality, the bottle and the cap are heavy Overall it's a like , not a love for now.

I have a bottle that is curved on the top and rectangular on the bottom. It resembles the Miss Habanita bottle pictured on Fragrantica except it is smoke colored. My fragrance is labeled Molinard Musc Eau De Toilette, however. There is no listing here for the edt version of this, so I hesitate to add an actual review. But I will second the idea that this smells like a head shop. Like incense and patchouli, not like musk. I love it for the memories of being a kid in the seventies.

For a frag called musc this is mostly balsamic, although I do get the skanki furry animal mentioned below - very much so, could be a Marlou (like carnicure) patch and opoponax are dirty (think farmyard barny, but in a good way!) and smells earthy too like it's been rolling around in the dirt. Very interesting indeed! Leans dry and also quite spicy peppery, not the usual fluffy airy clean musk you would expect from just the name.

Yup, Nag Champa in a bottle; this totally is, of the floral style and not so much as the dryer incense version. Almost grape-y florals with incense shop backing. Lovely. Heavy rank patchouli for first 15 minutes if I spray it heavily, but it's still an total Incense Import shop. There can be notes approaching fecal if your chem is not friendly to this though. My sister tried it and got a pronounced poop note, so warning there.

Whenever I’m feeling nostalgic and longing for the simple times of the 70,s I reach for this. I’m talking about the Eau de toilette version in the brown label bottle. It is incense, nag champa, and peace, love, and rock n roll. On me it is strong and long lasting and very comforting. I haven’t tried the purple version, but I have 2 back up bottles so I can always be “free”.
