Surely patchouli deserves more love, compassion and understanding than the peacenik stereotype it generally garners. Molinard presents a very enjoyable patchouli that satiates my senses. This frankly culminates into a straightforward scent but has some deep nuances: Patchouli, yes, woody, a bit raw to start and very subtly sweet, then drying smoothly with nuances of something like cacao/coffee with a slight edge of soil-like acidity. I feel like I'm sauntering into sommelier territory and over stating the subtleties -- I don't want to mislead you into expecting this to smell like chocolate or coffee. But it has an alluring shadow hovering about it. I don't get any obvious citrus nuances from neroli or orange, however because of the radiating balance it brings it reminds me a little of an old love, Prada Intense, but nowhere near as sweet. Geranium adds a little herbal touch that compliments this natural facet of patchouli. Sandalwood gives a little accent to the dominating patchouli, and a whisper of musk sands the edges just enough without stripping the beautiful woody texture. This is refined, an easy unisex wear and deep enough to be sensual. Big love.

W O W!! This is the patchouli perfume I have been looking for, for over 30+ years. I am beyond in LOVE!! Patchouli and vanilla are my two fav ingredients in fragrances. There are lots of great vanilla scents to please my palate, but I have a very hard time finding patchoulis I love. Most of the time it is either too "hippy", too dirty, too strong, too earthy, too medicinal, too much incense..... Molinard Patchouli is THE ONE!!! It is an balanced earthy and natural patchouli, blended with the perfect amount of sweetness and incense. It also lasts and lasts, but is not overly strong (as long as you do not over spray). The first 10-15 mins, there is that noticeable "medicinal" or mint scent that patchouli can give off, and honestly I do not love that with any patchouli perfumes, but luckily the medicine/mint/antiseptic note fades quickly, and then this scent smooths out and sweetens up, but retains everything I love about patchouli and loses everything I dislike about it! I am absolutely in LOVE with Molinard Patchouli!!!!

I love patchouli in all its forms, from amber/chocolately like Horizon from Oriza L Legrand, classic like Santa Maria Novella and dusty vintage like Hove New Orleans. This is an easy to like scent because its got some facets to it but undoubtedly patchouli. Blind bought, and the first time I sprayed I was kind of disappointed - it disappeared in a half an hour! So I sprayed some more. Then about 30 minutes later it came ROARING back! lasts all day and fab drydown (the tiniest hint of Horizon, which can be a lot sometimes....).

My first bottle quickly became a bit of an obsession. I found myself just putting a squirt on my wrist at bed time so that I could wake up during the night and have a little sniff and drift back to sleep with a smile on my face. I want just nuts about this fragrance. But when the 2nd bottle arrived, it was completely underwhelming. I can't really explain it - it was just way less appealing to me. I've just order Intense in the hope it might reignite my love of this fragrance with its slightly different blend.

Oh, this is a love for me. This is the exact sort of patchouli that I was looking for! The other notes play a supporting role to the star that is the patchouli here! I just love this scent. Longevity is pretty long, I would say the upper end of moderate or lower end of long lasting according to Fragrantica’s rating system. A good value for the price, for sure. I’m a patchouli lover so maybe it isn’t for you if you aren’t into this note, but for me it’s beautiful.

This is a lovely natural earthy patchouli with some chocolatey nuances & a little sweetness. Vanilla does not overwhelm here, & I also can’t detect the citrus note. I think this is the closest perfume to pure patchouli essential oil that I’ve tried. This is everything I hoped Reminisence Inoubliable Elixir would be, but wasn’t - & at a fraction of the price. It’s lovely if you just want almost pure patchouli without powder & sugary vanilla.

THIS is the patchouli I've been looking for. I do not like having to wait through the 20 minute or so initial phase of oily, vetiver-like realistic patchouli, but soon after I get what I came for. That synthetic, sparkly, soil-like green patchouli that is the base for so many other perfumes, which I want to wear as a standalone. The geranium definitely helps in this. Patchouli is versatile for all seasons, genders, and occasions.

Is it the bourbon or is it Molinard? Waning autumn evening and I'm having a drink out back. It's windy and chill and I've oversprayed my Molinard Patchouli. I can't begin to say how beautiful the woody patchouli and geranium plays off my skin in the evening air. There is musk, there is sandalwood, there is orange. This is a beautiful classic patchouli perfume. If you enjoy patchouli I cannot recommend it enough.

I wore it twice. Beautiful scent but my skin eats it. So, it stays only for about an hour. I'll keep trying. I had the same thing with cuire d'arabie from Montale. It is winter so maybe I need to try it in a more humid season. I'll update accordingly Update 17 Feb 2021 : It's lasting longer now a good 3 hours. My sking is getting saturated of it.

A lovely powerhouse of a patchouli perfume. Opens soapy and fresh. Dries down earthy, herby, smooth, dark, natural and sweet. Lots of character here. Of course, you have to like patchouli to appreciate this. It's potent and long lasting too. A beautiful unisex from Molinard.

I like the earthy smell in this one. It feels so natural and refreshing. There is something extremely pleasing for me to smell that fresh clean soil aroma. And the spicy opening is very pleasant too. Big surprise, definitely some great value for money here!

Short review but after searching for a Patchouli fragrance for years and trying plenty of duds...I'm looking at you Molinard's Intense Patchouli...I've finally found this. This gives me the green aromatic dirty patchouli that Ive wanted.

Wow! I just opened my first purchased bottle. When I sample it a few days back I fell for it. This patchouli is earth bound and mysterious, almost spiritual... Nothing shocking here, just a warm earthly embrace that soots the soul!

This is brilliant for layering with, maybe, a scent that you don't like much. It can transform it into something you like a lot better. Give it a go! On its own a gorgeous woody powerful patchouli juice.

Dark, gothic patchouli. Not chocolate-cakey but it can make your teeth hurt (if that makes sense) Unapologetic and serious, nothing playful about this one. Really good and GREAT niche for the price.

Pure wet and dirty intensive Patchouli, with a very good performance and it is unisex. It is not very popular and hard to find, I came across it at Douglas.

I love this. IMO, Waaaay better than Reminiscence Patchouli which is all Amber, cake and chocolate and no patchouli. Decent performance too. 8 out of 10

Amazing base for layering. Uden, Office, Burlington 1819... Really any fresh fragrance that needs a little grit, a little earthy-woody skank.

There is no disputing who's in charge in this one: it's all about the patchouli. Rooty, slightly medicinal and earthy patchouli. Everything else is just a background player, and may or may not even play up depending on one's skin chemistry. In my case, the only other note I really pick up is a bit of a nice clean sandalwood. In terms of scents I've picked up from nature and life, this reminds me of a hot summer day of gardening, planting moist roots into rich, dark and mossy soil, as a strong note of sunscreen hits my senses at the same time. Cool soil and sunscreen. Oddly comforting, not unpleasant at all. Interestingly, this does not remind me at all of Molinard's Vanille Patchouli - which to me features more of an herby, thyme-like patchouli note. The closest thing I've come across in the fragrance world was actually Mugler A*Men Summer Flash (or Ice Men, same thing) in that earthy, medicinal patchouli that is the feature note. Both are excellent and worth owning, but I think this one is quite a bit more potent -- so, more bang for the buck! On the other hand, there are moments when smelling the trail of this one distinctly reminds me of the scent memory of a long forgotten old lady perfume of the past. I guess that speaks to the unisex nature of this beast, but also to why it might also turn some people off some of the time. Skin chemistry really seems to matter with this one. Thumbs up, but beware - it won't be everyone's cuppa...

I got this recommended as one of the few good scents from this brand, and got it for around 25 euro for 100 ml. Got to say, for that price it does punch way above its weight class. Now, the opening i did not like. Syrupy sweetness, almost overwhelming, and not a good combination with the geranium. The sweetness - caramelic syrupy vanilla - too clawing and synthetic in the opening. Thankfully the opening, despite having some staying power, goes away eventually. And here comes the main spectacle of this scent - the mid notes - excellent, organic patchouli notes - the smell of dry vegetation growing out of dark, dry soil is photorealistic and unmistakable. The geranium still being part of the picture providing the greener, fresher part of the scent profile. Now, to my disappointment, the middle part of the drydown does not last as long as i would prefer - maybe 30-40 minutes into it the base notes starts clawing in and will eventually take over the scent profile completely - some vanillic sweetness that unfortunately reminds me of the opening, however the balsamic creamy sandalwood and musk tones are the mainstay - in itself a quality smelling combination, however i do miss the dry soil patchouli from the middle drydown. Overall complex, high quality and somewhat artistic scent, not something you would usually expect from a 25 euro bottle. Absolutely worth a buy if you are into patchouli scents.

I wish I could’ve sampled the bottle mapache is referencing below, because I think this version is very good: an above average patchouli with a sweet wood base. I don’t claim to be an expert when it comes to patchouli, but on my skin It’s almost a solo note, patchouli front and center from start to finish. Decent performance too. My issue with patchouli laden scents is that it always takes me back to being a broke college student when I used to purchase cheap patchouli oil and bathe in it, although this is much nicer than anything I wore in the 1980s. Very reasonable price-wise on the grey market, it’s tempting. Really impressed with everything I’ve sampled so far from the Molinard purple bottles.

Earthy patchouli. Hint of sweetness. Cozy fall vibes. Testing side by side with Molinard Musc and they're of a similar vibe but where Musc is smoother and more polished, Patchouli is earthier and rustic. Both are very nice, natural, classy reference points, but neither is my personal preference of bright refreshing citrus. But a nice regular reference to try annually. Compared to Fragonard's Patchouli which is more summery, fleeting, ethereal, and transparent, Molinard's version is darker, denser, and more serious. Fragonard's might be more my style but on a nice cool fall or winter night, this would hit the spot. Scent: 7 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

A very uplifting and comforting scent from Molinard. Awesome opening featuring the eponymous note, then quite a bit of vanilla. The sillage is mostly skin scent territory here, feels a bit gourmandy but rests nicely on the skin in any event. To be totally honest, the dry down veers more towards a feminine scent, and I could really see this working well on a woman. Nonetheless, it's a really nice fragrance, well blended, and would serve as a gentle introduction to a patchouli-based perfume. A solid 4 stars for me, and again, being brutally honest, I would recommend it more to female users than males.

I don't like "soapiness" in fragrances and had narrowed down the source of that soapiness to lavender and geranium. So I was prepared to not like Molinard Patchouli, but the geranium in this is reading more spicy than soapy to me and I'm really into it. On the other hand (literally), I have Histoires Noir Patchouli, which DOES smell soapy to me but, according to the listed notes, does NOT contain geranium. So I give up on trying to figure out geranium, but I'm glad I tried this one in spite of the geranium because I really like it.

As the reviewers said below, it’s earthy, fresh patchouli. It’s truly remarkable and has great longevity. The only problem I have with it is the fact it is not really wearable for a woman in my opinion. It was a blind buy for me and I’ll keep it to experiment with layering. On that note, Reminiscence’s Patchouli is perfectly unisex, perhaps even leaning feminine, and a creamy, sexy patchouli scent. For a man, I think Molinard is more interesting; for a woman, I’d pick Reminiscence. However, I have both and both are worth keeping.

This is a really fresh patchouli. One of the best patchoulis I have ever smelt, and I am not even a fan of patchouli... at all! But there is something about this one that makes it stand apart, it kinda reminds of the smell of rain for some reason, it's really beautiful, deep and complex at the same time. You have to smell it!

This is a natural, earthy patchouli blurred with a strong complementary star anise or licorice root tea note. The effect is humid and radiant. This avoids falling into the usual patchouli cliches -- it's neither headshoppy nor purple, but simple and herbal, like a cup of Yogi Tea.

Truly fabulous. Really hit home for me that price point =/= quality or performance. As others have mentioned, it's a spicy lightly unctuous patchouli leaf devoid of the typical sweetness. Amazingly comforting and tenacious. An accessible stunner.

@ komail You should have chosen Molinard's Patchouli Intense... You would appreciate from Honoré Payan their Patchouli Original (previously Antique) and 1854.

I like patchouli centric scents when they lean earthy/chocolatey. This one, however, leans slightly green/fresh to my nose. That and the geranium, which I'm not usually fond of, make this a 'meh' for me. I do tend to agree with RobbieX below about layering this with something you might not like much; maybe something that needs an aromatic kick. If you like patchouli that doesn't lean super earthy or super green, you'll probably like this.

Strong patchouli, has a little reminiscences of an incense stick. Earthy, slightly powdery.

A very earthy patchouli scent - not that bitter, a bit green.

Not a fan, but then again, I'm not much of a patchouli person anyway. I have to give it though that whilst quite medicinal, it is still wearable. For patchouli-lovers that is. Because of neroli and germanium, the top is quite bright, and the overall image is not so damp and dirty. Instead, the drydown is slightly on the dryer and powdery side, a bit woody and grows slightly creamy at the end. I respect, though don't love it.

I can appreciate the art and the skill involved in making this, Molinard is a great house and I love Cuir and Figue in this line but this one is just too much dirt in the dirty patchouli. An absolute bomb of earth and green genuine patchouli. It is exactly what is says on the bottle "PATCHOULI" and I respect it but I don't like it.

This is the most disgusting perfume I have smelt in my life. Nearly made me physically sick.

My great "Search for the Perfect Lost Patchouli" .. continues . Chapter 15. Today I got Molinard Patchouli (perfume ?) in the mail. This was AFTER I was living with Molinard Patchouli Intense for about a year (Yeah, going BACKWARDS is my way of life). I loved Intense at first but as time wore on... it just felt too light. (Dammit: patchouli is such a thick dense SAP -- no way should they try to lighten it!) OK. Whatever. So the reviews on the basic Patchouli were excellent. And I always seem to get this for a good price on eBay so I went for it. It opens with Vintage fizzy Cola (which we all love) and then it dries into "dirty b.o. patchouli" which I LOVE TOO ( don't go gettin' all grossed out! It's the "dirty" version that Mugler uses in Angel and A*Men !). I always sample my perfumes RIGHT in the public post office on my way out. I want the people in there to smell my trail and note what good taste I have. So it's a few hours later and I can still detect Molinard "Regular" Patchouli on me - not anything crazy. Maybe I'm a bit "noseblind" to everything these days. (I sample a LOT during my work week! I work near a BIG mall with high end shops ; Saks, Bloomies, a LUSH store and a L'Occitane store). Don't get me wrong: I do LIKE my 2 Molinards and will wear them often. I also like my Reminiscence Patchouli and my Montale Patchouli Leaves too! It's just that I am still looking for the BIG FAT CRAZY patchouli that can match my essential oils. Maybe I should just start layering with the oil and leave it at that . IF you have any "Patchouli Bomb" suggestions (THINK Lush Karma times 10 in the patchouli note/ a "Purple" Patchouli feeling ) , feel free to send me a message. Thanks ! KitI created an account just to review this sublime fragrance. I've never used up a bottle so quickly. Patchouli by Molinard goes everywhere: on my freshly laundered sheets; into my closet and, of course, directly onto my skin in all seasons. Patchouli is a cloak of subtle magical power that envelops me and precedes me. As an imposing and dramatically featured 6 foot tall woman, I require such a companion. Jaw-droppingly reasonable at about $40 per bottle, Patchouli is a effective projector, a chameleon of shifting notes and an attention getter hours after application. Initial spray is pure cherry cola. In fact, the cherry cola obliterates the nose for several minutes and only during dry-down does the frank woody simplicity of patchouli emerge. A mossy, rich and earthy herbal is the lasting expression. This perfume does not degrade or break down over time. That is its TRUE secret and value. Spray it into a suitcase or lingerie drawer, and months later you may still catch a whiff of steadfast Patchoili, never chemicals. What is this witchery, sold for so little? I am a happy captive to Molinard.

So, So good! A very natural, deep and earthy green Patchouli indeed. I have Natural Patchouli extract and this does smell similar yet its more potent and long-lasting. Leans slightly more Masculine imho, but women can definately rock this awesome fragrance. Molinard's-Patchouli starts off with strong projection for around an hour but calms down quite a bit giving off a softer yet noticable sillage. One of the reasond that I wanted to get this scent besides the fact that I LOOOVE the smell of natural, earthy Patchouli is the comparisons to Davidoff's - Zino and indeed the way the Patchouli is used here from Molinard does remind me of the Patchouli in Zino which means that the two will layer perfectly and thus making Zino lasts even longer than it does now, or I can just rock Patchouli on its own. Im getting between 6 and 7 hours on skin, but "Maturation" is def a thing and my bottle is brand-new so I'll be back to report any changes. For now tho? I am 1super happy with my purchase!

I think this one and the now discontinued EDT have a different vibe. The EDT was a very good, but also very conventional interpretation of patchouli. Although neither mind blowing nor groundbreaking, this fragrance is undoubtedly more complex and intense. It is much darker, more oriental.It is a patchouli for the evening or special occasions. It is also more on the unisex side than the EDT. The top notes have that "vintage barber shop" vibe which I am not fond of, but it doesn't last long enough to bother me, and to be fair it contributes to the originality of the fragrance. And I love these new Molinard bottles...True minimalistic elegance. Beautiful colour. Classy. Since I am not patchouli obsessed and already have two other patch fragrances, this is not on my wish list ; But I would definitely recommend it. Lasting power is average, sillage is moderate.

Gorgeous magic in a delightful bottle. This style of patchouli doesn't seem to be en vogue, but that's what makes this bottle art. Speaking of the bottle, what a stunning design. It conjures up the image of some herbal medicine, which is perfect for this prescription strength dose of patchouli and geranium. My one complaint with the bottle is the rather lackluster cheap-plastic lid which doesn't feel like it's securely attached. Back to the scent, the herbal tinges flatter the sharp aspects of patchouli. It's less meditative and more sexual with its almost fruity-chocolatey undercurrent. It's not too dirty or earthy, but it also isn't forgiving. It's patchouli, presented at its best.

Ok....this does smell good....HOWEVER..... This version is 3/4 less of the scent of the one in the first picture above ^....the brown label/yellowish juice one. That one I have owned twice in my lifetime and it is hard to find at a "decent' price....So...I am dissapointed in the quality of the newer purple bottled one....I guess I will have to invest in the other version to quench my desire for that powerhouse earthy/hippie-ish patchouli that I sometimes CRAVE. This new version...to my nose...is weak !!!! So sad. The purple bottle IS awesome/stunning...but......ect...

I have visited a Molinard boutique in Nice (South of France) for trying Molinard Cuir (leather), I was a bit disappointed. Finally I got this one on internet for 39€ shipping included (75 ml. EDP + shower gel). With time I found that It needs a masculin character (announced as unisex). The scent itself is a real fresh patchouli with good projection and mderate longevity. Ladies who love patchouli, go for it; elegant and not expensive. After all it is an Eau de parfum with a reasonable price.......... chic

Lovely patch, and different from the other Molinard patchouli. I have one in a rollerball that goes on smelling of pepper and patch and only lasts about an hour. This version is terrific with better sillage and longer wearing time. The base is a lovely warm musk and the patch isn't overbearingly raw. Love this one. I believe it is the best of the Molinard Patch, and I do think it to be wearable year round. Love. PS- Loves to cling to clothing! :)

At first I smelled like my favorite head shop/occult bookstore -- Nag Champa, Very sweet incense -- with green patchouli leaves. Which was cool. Once it dried a bit, I've got a sweetish vanislla-musk-based patchouli which is not magical and complex, a la Serge Lutens, Phillipre Guillaume, or Corinne Cachen, but is very satisfying. It's also very strong at every stage. The reviewer who mentioned the magical protective cloak is onto something. 4/5

Based on reviews and the hype of the community, I had very high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, I was really let down. Something in it felt too old and screechy. This patchouli is green and earthy. I like my patchouli to be chocolaty, ambery, reciny. Think if Jovoy Psychadilique or Reminiscence Patchouli. This one is not my cup of tree.

Just true to the name! A must-have. Great for layering. Rather medicinal than chocolatey. I will soon need a refill, the bottle is almost empty because it mixes so well with other scents. If you want a patchouli, try this one, it's not too expensive. Way better performance and scent than the refirmulated Réminiscence.
