Patchouli

A few years ago I bought this BLIND off ebay because I wanted a patchouli cologne and could not find ANYTHING in a store near me that smelled enough like REAL patchouli. I can't say what else I recognize because of the amount of time since I had it, but I remember the patchouli and remember thinking how much like the true essential oil and herb it smells like. I LOVE IT!! Now I'm having trouble finding it again, though I've not checked in a week. I got it for $20.00 bucks including shipping, which I thought was a super bargain. I'm getting braver trying fragrances blind, and I'm having great luck as I've loved everything I've tried. I can say in my humble opinion that this EDT has an awesome patchouli scent, and it lasts quite a long time, If you dislike an overpowering amount of patchouli in your fragrance then this isn't for you unless you want to layer a couple different scents to create your own which I highly recommend.

I just layered it with Elle EDP by YSL....and omg, this is just wonderful. It adds a very deep, slightly bitter base to Elle. I think it is perfect for layering with dominant patchouli fragrances to add that extra dimention to them. And if you want a slightly sweeter base, layer with Patchouli Vanilla. I think these series of Molinards were made for layering as by themselves they are pretty linear (unlike Habanita and Nirmala), but of superb quality. And because of their great transparency,they blend in with other fragrances perfectly without overshadowing the other fragrance, but rather complementing it. Edit: it also extremely intensified the sillage and longevity of Elle. Now I'm going to experiement with Lacroix, Midnight Poison and other compatible fragrances. I think Molinards are also great for rescuing perfumes with low sillage and lasting power.

I decided to write another review of this fragrance worn by itself, as it is sure worth talking about. The first spray may give you a strong impression that it is going to be an extremely overpowering masculine bitter patchoili. But in less than a minute it settles into a most dark, sexy potion with a hint of vanilla and sandal wood. It reminds me of freshly brewed black coffee or dark bitter chocolate. Not extremely complex, but like all Molinards, it's a very full bodied scent, not flat. I'm also taking it back that it can be layered only as it is amazing on my skin by itself. It has just the right amount of sillage: very noticeable and smooth, but not overwhelming. Great job, Molinard!

I love patchouli, and so I decided to give this one a try. What I feel mostly in this perfume is sandalwood, which I like, but only in tiny amounts. To me the sandalwood overpowers the patchouli and it becomes kind of hard to feel. It takes a while for me to discern it. All in all I find it pleasant, maybe a bit masculine, but I like that. When I wear this perfume, my husband says I smell like "お香" - the kind of incense used in Japanese shrines... :P

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This IS absolutely DIVINE!!!!!!!!! I love how sensual and erotic this fragrance smells. At first it's a deep and a bit oily smell, but soon after you get in the background some distant hints of sweetness. As the scent progresses, it gets better and better!

If patchouli is what exhilarates your senses, propels your heartbeat and you want it strong, I recommend taking the risk of going on a blind date with Molinard Patchouli EDT from their Les Orientaux collection. You will meet suprisingly good, innovative and sophisticated take on pachouli, with lots of niche traces I would have never associated with the classic Molinard house. What others claim is true - this is niche in a mainstream product offered at bargain price. This patchouli, bathing in an original form of almost syroupy sweetness counterbalanced with fresh bitterness, is bold, self-confident and not for the faint-hearted. The Molinard solinotes rarely disappoint me, and PATCHOULI is perhaps one of the best. This is a patchouli perfume for serious patchouli lovers who prefer not to have this sensual, earthy note smothered in vanilla, marshmallow, caramel, cotton candy, and what not. Among the notes is listed vanilla, but truly this is a savory composition, with much more emphasis on the geranium as the primary garnish in the mix. Depending on the day, the weather, and facts about me, PATCHOULI can have a more or less doughy texture. Today it seems less doughy and more earthy. Under all circumstances this is patchouli for connoisseurs. I find it much more appealing than Lush KARMA or its near equivalent, hippy patchouli oil. This Molinard rendition smells more like a composed perfume, but it is unequivocally and unabashedly PATCHOULI! A fantastic value at the discounters, the quality of this perfume rivals that of a number of haute niche patchouli offerings I've tried. This is worth having in one's collection to mix with overly sweet oriental fragrances or to amp up the patchouli in anything.

For what I paid, this isn't a bad patchouli fragrance at all. I would say that it's on the masculine side because I sense some woodiness, and the fragrance is rather dry, yet I think it's sweet enough that I am glad I didn't buy Vanille-Patchouli instead. If there was any spice here, it would probably tip the scale for me towards being too masculine, so I am grateful there is none. I like this intense patchouli. It has that mildewy effect that I love so much, but it's well-balanced by some dryness too, so it doesn't smell like moth balls or sweaty gym socks or anything so musty as to be offensive. I wore this yesterday when I went out for a walk in the park. It was really cold outside, and this was nice and cozy. I'm actually surprised not to see amber in the notes because it has an ambery feel to it. It's a straightforward darker patchouli, so if that's what you are looking for, grab a bottle while you can.

One of my favorite patchouli fragrances. Very similar to PG Intrigant Patchouli but for a fraction of the price, and with less dankness. Molinard Patchouli is not an earthy, dirty, or dark patchouli. It is also not a clean, astringent patchouli. Honestly, it smells nutty--a lot like pralines. Lasting power is strange with this one. It disappears after about two hours but if I sweat, take a shower, or move around a lot it comes right back.

You are so right Jillzilla...a grandpa-style patchouli indeed! I love to spritz it on before bed and float away on a magic carpet ride. Actually, it reminds me of an old bottle of Tabu.

I'm in grasse! Went to molinard. Got this gem for €26.01 for 100ml. €29 minus the 10% discount for the hotel flyer. Strong patch! Reminds me of givenchy gentleman from the olden days

Patchouli is my favorite note, and I believe the note itself is very unisex. That being said, I have never found a patchouli I couldn't wear, but this is honestly the most masculine patchouli I have ever smelled, and it's really giving my female skin chemistry a bit of trouble! I don't really know how I can say it smells masculine, since I do smell the floral notes in it, but it gives me the distinct impression that it's the patchouli a grandpa would wear. It's a bit floral, a bit powdery, but somehow very masculine and a little old-fashioned. Maybe it's too masculine for me? How frustrating! I need to test it in cold weather before I decide for sure. Update: I find the patchouli note more dominant in winter. It's a dirty, earthy patchouli note, too...deep, dark, damp, and conjuring up images of a group of hippies, one of whom has traded for a bottle of sweet, powdery vintage cologne. I feel like it's a cross between Molinard Habanita and Profumum Patchouly (minus the chocolate/incense note).

Not digging this. At the open I thought it showed promise as an interesting patch since it was VERY distinctive with the citrus notes mixed in. I liked that! But at the start, and all through the drydown there is some chemical-ish note that I can't place and do not like. Now that I'm past the midnotes there's something that is, quite frankly, subtly foul in it. One might assign it to be some raw patchouli edge, but I don't think so. It's something else that has a "rotten vegetable" feel to it. VERY subtle. As to it being unisex, I tend to disagree. Once you're past the open, I think this is a rather feminine scent. Not something I'll wear again, but I'm always curious to test any and all patch's!

An incredibly bitter patchuli. Quite far from the 70s patchuli that you always find. After a while it takes a vintage note that I don't dislike. But gives me a headache and it is very strong, not in a positive way. Like a spank on the face that doesn't leave signs.

Really, I am shocked with the results here. Who's wearing this perfume in the summer? Unbelievable...

The one I have is called Patchouli Plaisir (pleasure), which I think was released in 2001 (also by Molinard). I think the notes are: Orange, exotic fruit notes, sandalwood, vanilla, and patchouli. So as you might guess, it's rather simple. There is strong patchouli at first but then it fades quickly. I didn't get much orange but I try to avoid the top notes, so that is where they may have been concentrated. For the most part, it comes across to me as a light scent, with sandalwood, vanilla, and patchouli keeping the balance together. Obviously, there is likely to be some musk present, no matter how minimal an impression is given. It looks like it is now discontinued, or at least hard to find in the USA. I'm not a fan of fragrances with strong patchouli notes, so it's difficult for me to judge how it compares to others that are similar. For what it is, I can't think of anything negative to say about it. Longevity seems good, but projection/"sillage" may not be great. I'll have to wear it one more time before I arrive at a more definitive assessment.

First wearing: the patchouli is obvious but not overwhelming, and there is a hint of the orange. It doesn't take long for the wood note to join in, and at that point I could mistake it for a super-expenive niche scent if it was stronger or had some more bells & whistles. It certainly could be niche of a simpler type. There is no strong vanilla in the base so you don't have to worry about a generic drydown. It's slightly cool but there is no camphor or anything that comes across as harsh or astringent. A great "bang for the buck" scent that demonstrates how overpriced most if not all niche is, and does not disappoint in any way! NOTE: I would say this would likely be too "masculine" for most women, and I'd call it Sandalwood Patchouli - it doesn't strike me as especially oriental.

This is a nice, straightforward patchouli. Other notes are listed on the profile, but I smell nothing but the patch here. As this type of fragrance goes, I'd call this a success for fragrance as well as a bargain price-point. I do prefer a bit more refinement in my patch, as well as a mélange of other accords (Coromandel, Portrait Of A Lady), but if patch is the only note you want to strike, you won't go amiss with the Molinard version. For my taste, I much prefer Molinard's Patchouli Intense. This cleaner version of patchouli conjures images of an evolved version of the recovering hippy-at-outdoor-music festival. This is mildly evocative of pungent patchouli sold at head shops, but refined enough not to cause a dirty-hippie relapse.

Hmmm.....I am obsessed with 2 smells. Leather and patchouli. This happened when my first and only perfume and I met years ago, a funny baby phat seductive goddess. The black bottle cast her spell.....previous to this I have never been able to wear any smell. I loath sweet and flowery smells on me. They smell great on other people, but pecan pie on other women smells like pine sole on me. So I searched far and wide for leather smells, finally I discovered the amazing Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. The everest of Leather smells. Amazing. Now I must find a matching patchouli. This sounds very promising. I will blind buy a small bottle and update.

This Patchouli smells wonderful on me. I can just sit here on the couch smelling myself all day long - or at least until it wears off, which is unfortunately a bit sooner than I think it should. That's my only mild complaint. It certainly doesn't smell masculine on me, though I would never consider it a feminine scent. It's not a hippy patchouli either. It's too a little too lofty for that, though above ... or below all, it's of the earth.

I was sampled Patchouli a few months ago. Today I ́ve decided to go give it a go and reminds me so much of Habanita.

Does anyone know if this is the same as Les Senteurs Patchouli by Molinard?
