Violette Eau de Parfum

Molinard is certainly an underestimated house, but it's a House deserving more recognition for sure! I am in love with their scents and will buy more. Its fragrances clearly are concocted with quality ingredients by true masters of the art of perfumery; sillage and longevity are never an issue, elements crafted in sublime balances, and one will always be able to detect almost each note in them. They might not appeal to the masses, but I don't think they should: they create masterpieces which have nothing to do with the overly sugary, fruity charmers the market craves for. For a week I have been wearing this beauty. Upon application the most prominent notes are a tender, delicate green violet with a hint of powder, and a refreshing, juicy yet subtle note of blackcurrant. After about 30 minutes the heart notes begin their journey up: again violet is the most prominent one, followed by an equally juicy peach - though very faint - and a glorious basket of violet leaves, slightly bitter. Iris then comes up, elegant, romantic and not at all overbearing. Here it does not overpower any other note. This is a dance of fairies, in the deep of a forest where all is about light and shadows. No rose, no green apples can be detected at any time; perhaps one could say that the juiciness is given by all fruits blended perfectly in this marvellous magic potion. A citrusy whisper can be smelled every now and then, but overall citruses are not prominent. THIS. IS. EXHILARATING. Nothing can evoke the spirit of the forest as much as violets and here they are the queens of a rather joyous, colourful, fun court. Molinard is a genius and I wish this house would get the recognition it truly deserves. Simply magnificent.

This smells just like Lolita Lempika if you streamlined it by removing the licorice, cherry and any other 'weird' qualities. Just pure Violet/Ivy and sugar, it's much more refined and grown up compared to Lolita Lempika and it has much better longevity! The only notes I detect are a Violet/Ivy smell, a sugar smell, and maybe a touch of Black current in the back. I understand what people mean by saying Violet smells like "Fabreeze" or "Lysol" in a way, but it's not in a bad way. When it settles the sweetness comes out more. It also reminds me of the smell of wet hair gel (LA LOOKS Gel specifically) that kind of wet and fresh quality. It's great to use to layer as a finishing touch when you want to add that touch of sugary freshness. I wanted something that just smells like those Violet candies, but I think Choco Violet by Mancera is a lot closer to that smell. The bottle is very beautiful, especially because the violet bottle matches the name Violette.

Here we have one more superb frag from the famous house from Grasse. After an initial Voilette blast, almost covering the citrus, we get a long battle between violette (flowers and leaf), iris and jasmine on one side, and peach, a sweet rose and a not so green apple on the other side, the whole battle being covered by white musks. It's a long fight, 1 to 2 hours, evoking the classical gourmands vs. florals competition, here shown in "live" ! The peach-apple/iris confrontation evokes that of Guerlain's Guet Apens or Royal Extract, both unfortunately discontinued ... In the end, Violette and Iris win the trophy with a lovely skin scent which lasts for many hours. Molinard couldn't deceive with this new frag in line with the color of their floral frags bottles, and wins the challenge!

This is really nice. I like the interesting twist from the crunchy green apple note that really works well with the other notes. Its somehow unlocked a long distant memory of a shampoo I used to use as a kid which was supposed to have an apple fragrance. The opening is all about iris, violet and violet leaf. Bright and exhilarating. Those three notes quickly settle and then I am very aware of the apple note along with some sweetness from the rose and peach. I hardly detect any musk but the blackcurrant is definitely in the background. A gorgeous fresh unisex fragrance that I can see me wearing all through the spring. I think it encapsulates the freshness and newness of spring. A time of renewal and reawakening. Moderate sillage and longevity.

Oh, this is gorgeous! Opens with an explosion of parma violet, but soon mellows out so the other notes have room to breathe. For the most part, I detect the violet, musk, iris, jasmine and a bit of aquatic-sweetness that's either coming from the apple, rose or lemon (or a combination of), but I can't really pinpoint it. The purple florals are LOUD in this one. Something that really took me by surprise is how similar the drydown is to The Favourite by Penhaligon's! I'm struggling to decide which to get because this one is fantastic value for money and has better longevity but I do admit the other is a little smoother and well-rounded. Hard to really call it between the two.

Lovely...absolutely lovely!!!! This is one fragrance I will stockpile on the chance it is discontinued and sellers on eBay see an opportunity to charge outrageous prices to lovers of this beautiful frag. If you love violets and their scent, this is for you. And it is not fleeting. The longevity is amazing. A good spray between the "twins" and you will catch whiffs of it into the next day. I don't know about it being unisex. To me it is a lovely, feminine scent for a very ladylike lady. Sorry about the "twins" remark...that wasn't very ladylike, but Molinard Violette Eau de Parfum is!

Blind buy that I didn't like at first. Two days later I tried again and was just blown away by how lovely it smells. It is definitely for violet lovers, very soft and sweet and slightly powdery from the iris I imagine. Quite strong enough at first but then softened. On me it lasted all day and on fabric much longer. Really beautiful perfume and I have already ordered another bottle. I also have lush kerbside violet which I really like but it's quite different to this and perhaps that's what put me off Violette initially. Anyway it's a winner for me.

The perennial search for a violet that is a more refined version of that delectable little green bottle from the 60s...it is here and I’m in love again. It opens with a blast of Parma violets and settles into a powdery, gentle vanillary, warm and gorgeous violet tint that hangs around for about 3-4 hours. Ok, so not great with the longevity, but a real treat to top it up with that delectable classic violet glass bottle. . If you’re a Parma violet fiend, you’ll love this.

This is one of my two signature fragrances after my boyfriend purchased this for me on a rainy day in spring in Grasse, France. Whenever I wear this, I always think back to kissing in the rain in a cobblestoned alley. It's a true, sugary, candied violet to me. I love this perfume and couldn't recommend it enough. Happy memories aside, it is more juicy and bright than Insolence from Guerlain, and my nose cannot get enough.

I'm so in love with this!! It's exactly what I hope a violet fragrance would be and more! Delicate, sweet, powdery and BEAUTIFUL! It's so beautifully blended the other notes never really take the spotlight and for a few hours you're in sweet violet heaven, eventually giving way to a very soft, delicious violet candy skin scent. I know I'm gushing but I really am in love!

If violet leaf sings on your skin, if you love frags like Burberry Weekend, Guerlain Rose Cherie, Balenciaga Paris, the botanicas--this is pure violet leaf in all its subtly chic, femme, powdery glory. Really happy to have this chic scent in my collection, though it should be noted longevity and projection seem poor. Definitely more of a skin scent.

Lovely lovely Violet!! Musky and a bit more floral in the first spray. . But it settles into a a straight up smooth powdery sweet violet. Definitely getting a Lipsticky vibe. This'll be lovely for laying, as it's a very linear violet, and uncomplicated. If you love violet then you can't go wrong here.

You're here because you want violets. And violets you shall have. This is delightful. Sweet, powdery violets with a twist of lemon, leaning more on the feminine side. It's like eating those powdery parma violet sweets followed by a lemon sherbert chaser. Beautiful concoction.

Beautiful violet with green apple/peach and citrus. Violette is very comforting and perfect for year round wear. My mom used to drench us in Violet cologne when we were kids and this reminds me of those very nice times.

This one is a bit heavy, but still not very irritating. It's quite good and smells natural. Bought it at a factory in Grasse along with several other perfumes. I prefer wearing it moderately during winter, lovely!

I loved this back in the beginning of my serious perfume journey. I was fond of Molinard in general. In retrospect, it was likely because I "found" this old house and became enamored with the idea of owning pieces of the past, aware that few if any remain the same. Since then, with the exception of Habanita and Molinard de Molinard, they've all been downgraded to "likes". As far as a violet note is concerned, I have fallen in love with many others, the greatest of which is Barcelona Paris. I'm also more fond of Insolence EDP and EDT, Aimez Moi?, and perhaps even Gucci Violet. I'm sure there are others. Still, this is nice, and is suitable for layering. From this collection, I also own Jasmin and Mugler, very good combos of synthetic and "natural" notes at affordable prices. Indeed, the Jasmin brings me right to the edge of jasmine indolence I can appreciate without veering into fecal territory. Additionally I own Tuberesuse Vertigineuse from their more luxe collection. It is well overdue to be worn again. Overall, I think this is a safe by for lovers of violet. If you aren't sure or struggle with it, then you must try before you by. Silage and longevity are nearly moderate. EDIT - 99.9% sure that the one note that jars me is the black currant. I hate it in everything I've ever worn, along with a few other berries and cassia. Black currant is the worst on me though, as my skin turns it directly into piss.

Amazing violet scent, maybe the best violet scent that there is. When I got this, smelled and litterally sat on the floor just where I was - stunning violet, it resonate so deep within that a tear of joy has made it's way down my cheek. I have never experienced that before. To me it's a subtile femininity, not shouting luxury. It's like those violets in early spring - fragile, but strong inside, blooming at it's best, and defenetelly violet-like the actual colour is captured in this perfume. Lightness with crisp apples and citrus. I don't even imagine it on a man, it's the only scent so far for what I would want my children to remember me smelling (from their early childhood). Sweet a bit powdery violets, beautiful lightness of violet leaves and citrus. And that beautiful Molinard base. I appreciate Molinard for still staying family busines since early 1849 in Grasse. For their product quality that doesn't shout with marketing, superstars in campaigns and so on. The product speaks for itself. A true piece of art.

This leans feminine for sure, but there is something I find very comforting and easy to wear about it. I occasionally wear it to work, its subtle, inoffensive and has a slightly melancholy characteristic to it. I often spray some in a diffuser to scent my room. Its relaxing and helps me unwind before I sleep. For the price, I think the quality of the fragrance is great, but you do have to like violets (think of violet candy / Parma violets). As the other notes listed are lost on me personally.

I’m enjoying exploring violet scents at the moment and Molinard’s Violette is a nostalgic yet modern take on violet. It’s soft, powdery, and delicately sweet. It does remind me of Insolence (which I also like) but it doesn’t project as much and is greener, with a small blast of fleshy green apple in the opening. This one balances freshness and depth — a lovely blend of vintage charm and contemporary appeal. The purple bottle is cute too, and it can be picked up for a great price.

Wasn't sure what to expect as I don't know what violette smells like. I assumed similar to Iris, and it does have a slight iris scent, but it's fruitier, more purple flowery, with hints of fruit. Not sure what to make of it...not exactly my style, but I don't dislike it. It's interesting and glad I'm trying it. Not for me and not sure I'd want it on a woman. It's an acquired taste I think, but nothing off putting. Just...different. Scent: 6.5 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

The uber-violet!! Violet, violet, and more violet! It is scrumptious! I don't know how many of you remember the old New York City department store Bonwit Teller, but their bags used to have violets on them as their emblem. That image comes to mind when I wear this - old school, very proper, refined violet with a whimsical side. The purple bottle really drives home the fact that this is a very purple perfume. Molinard has yet to let me down.

this smells SO uncannily like the hair dye i use (colour freedom) which i've always secretly loved the smell of. initially its rather green and almost soap-y but its been over 20 minutes now and it's lost that quality and become this beautiful clean fruity violet... i think i might prefer to wear this in this summer/spring so i'll do my bank balance a favor and wait before buying a full :p

Has some similarities to Guerlain Meteorites but the big difference is that Guerlain is powdery and a bit more sophisticated, whereas Molinard is more juicy and green-ish. Both of them are lovely in their own way. I think Molinard is very suited for spring and autumn

Initial impression: candied fruits and violette with a twist of citrus, reminds me of sweet tarts from my childhood. One hour plus before the flowery opening settles into a powdery skin scent. All around a natural, realistic interpretation of violets.

Pleasant enough to start with, the violet note is rather yummy. But to be fair performance lets this one down, and more worryingly the dry down has a 'heavy' feeling about it (is it the type of musk used?). The initial freshness is sadly lost.

Did I need another powdery violet fragrance in my collection? Apparently yes. If you like Insolence, you will like this. It’s a fresher and crisper violet than Insolence. Yes it is (candied) sweet, but that’s why I like it.

It smells like a less vintage Guerlain violette. It is lovely - more green than sweet/floral but still carries the beauty of the violette flower.

I liked the scent very well, but in spite of spraying lavishly, it was barely there and faded almost immediately.

I was dissappointed by the violet notes in this, to me this does not smell that much of violets at all. It does smell very soapy and fresh, it's not unpleasant, but it's not a violet smell to me.

While I do love this I have to say that the opening is very, very tough for me to stomach. There is something (perhaps the black currant) that is overripe and almost to the point of rotting, and another note that smells vaguely like a burnt fruit compote. I gag every time I spray it. And it’s not just me, my 5 year old son told me it smells disgusting, like “something dead”. Give it 20 minutes and it’s a dense and jammy violet, not a fresh or petally scent. It has definitely grown on me but I have to work up the courage to wear it because of the opening. It’s certainly a unique violet and I’m glad to have in my collection. This is not you usual powdery, smooth affair. In general, Molinard is an underrated house with a stable of formidable perfumes. Perhaps because they don’t have a huge presence in the US, they don’t receive the respect and attention they deserve. Edit: NO! Just no! I have tried. The opening is nauseating and once I get past it, I have a whopping headache. I used to think there wasn’t a violet on Earth that I didn’t like. Well, I found one that I am utterly incompatible with. It has been axed!

This was a blind buy, I was hoping for something like the original Meteorites perfume. This was a lot more fruity/citrus than I expected, definitely not a violet soliflore. It’s quite fruity & sweet from beginning to end & as it goes into the mid & base notes there is a synthetic “woody” fixative or base note come through which is warm, & a bit sickly/cloying. Its a note I usually associate with Amberwood based perfumes. I see no Amberwood listed, so I’m not sure - but whatever it is, it’s there & I don’t like it. To my senses the poor little violets are being trampled on & crushed by the fruitiness & that synthetic mid/base note. Sadly (aside from both having a violet note) this is actually nothing like the original Meteorites. I knew it well & finished at least 3 bottles before it disappeared. I passed my bottle on, for me this was a let down & so I’ll just continue to get my Meteorites “fix” from the little face powder balls.

I'm a dude so I took the risk of blind buying it cause I love violet, violet leaf and apple but this isn't unisex. It's very sweet and jammy and I don't find it overwhelmingly feminine but it's quite hard to pull off as a guy. To my nose the black currant and peach were really dominating this. The violet was there but that black currant was really turning me off. As @labonvie said, it gives it a nauseating ripeness. As others have also said, doesn't perform too well. But mainly, it's definitely not a blind buy for men.

Violette by Molinard comes off as a sweet, cold, and green violet with a fresh burst of aquatic and fruity notes. There is a refreshing, clean vibe that makes it feel light and airy, but it leans more towards the realm of a detergent than a fragrance I would wear on my skin.

Very nice, for a lady (I am a guy). I got burned by an Instagramer who persuaded me into getting it. Not bad at all, it just leaned way too feminine on my skin. Mostly a floral vibe, to my nose. I ended up gifting it to my mother.

Lovely light candied violets. It smells airy and soft. It's like Insolence but a much lighter version. Not the scent for me. -

The opening is quite loud and synthetic. The loudness is gone after a mere minute but the syntheticness stays longer (roughly 10 mins on me), I believe this is what laviebon described as a burnt smell in his/her comment below - it does smells somewhat that way to me, too, but it also reminds me of the smell of a baby doll's head if that makes sense. Weird I know. 10-15 mins pass and it has evolved into a muted candied kind of scent (not candy sweet). After 15-20 mins, now it is the violet w a very faint green note I've been waiting for. Feminine and elegant, fresh and airy. Unfortunately by this time the scent has become too weak on me I literally have to press my nose against the skin to be able to sniff it. Longevity is weak and sillage is almost non-existent. Belong to the "forgettable category" in my book. I don't mean that in a negative way. "Forgettable" here should be read as "I don't mind wearing it but it is nothing special."

I would like this more if it were not for that crisp fruit and citrus edge to it. I was expecting a soft powdery violet, even a green violet leaf, so I am a tad disappointed on that count. If you’re looking for a lipstick violet vibe, you’re not going to get it with this fragrance. On the other hand, ignoring my probably unrealistic expectations...this is a good little performer with a pretty fragrance and would certainly be suitable for summer, as a unisex fragrance, and office safe. You’re not buying a monster sillage beast, but it will last nicely for about 6 hours. Anyway I will give it another go and update this if things change.

Lush purple cloud. Not fresh, after some loud opening notes. Something Coney Island candy about this. A well made 30s dime store scent of real essences, worn by a Betty Boop pretty lady, a night out with her beau, a twilight summer sky, a glaring garland of bare incandescent bulbs, larded fruit pies, some musk from the crowd. A grainy, saturated melancholy behind this, deep like the bottle color. A fragrance for Dumbo's circus tent. Guinguette or dance hall vibe. A Soviet true parfum smelled like Violette, can't remember the name, came in a blue Art Deco bottle.

This is lovely. The first blast is citrus with violets and then comes even more parma violets. It moves quickly on to the blackcurrant and leaves mixed with that leading violette note. I don't get any fruits. There is a mere hint of jasmine. I think there is some freshly cut apple trying to peak. It is sweet but not too much. Violet very much leads the way all the way through. Sillage is not great. I can smell it in my immediate vicinity, but it very quickly fades. I will get back on longevity.

I don’t recommend wearing this in anything below 60 Fahrenheit to bring out the mellower rum-like note that pervades. In colder weather this is an instant scrubber for me as the sharp green note is obnoxious in cold temperatures. I own the Favourite by Penhaligon’s, but it has a beautiful warm and tropical green note from the violet leaf that is pleasant and doesn’t give me a headache. Molinard is pleasant and affordable with unique note combinations, but not always as well blended.

Delicate true honey-dew-touched violets on a morning spring in the woods. Somehow this scent smells to me like the blood of nature. Incredible feeling of realistic wild life. I'm almost waiting to see a deer appearing from behind the trees...I'm hearing frail branches breaking under their feet... I'm hearing raindrops pouring slowly off the leaves after the rain had stopped.. I'm smelling the thin wet air.... So beautiful and unique!

Mostly violet leaves, with fruity-sweetness to temper the iris and violet. I actually can't find any fault with this, believe it or not, but it's just not speaking to me, for some reason or other. A little soft, quite tame and not really stand-outish, which is what I'm looking for. I'm sure this would work for the right person, but it didn't work for me, unfortunately...

This is a beautiful violet. Airy fluffy and light, but also has the parma violet candy esque sweetness, with the tart green apple, not overbearing. Sweet soft floral all the way, with a twist of green earthiness. Нота фиалки одна из моих любимых в парфюмерии и вообще я люблю аромат диких фиалок. Тут целая ода свежей, фруктовой, сладкой фиалки. Аромат в целом неплохой, я бы хотела для себя больше пудры и меньше цитрусов и фруктов. Как будто они тут превалируют и фиалка где-то на втором месте. Но всё же мне он нравится и флакон тоже оформлен прекрасно! 💜

I completely get what labonvie is saying about the opening. I wasn't sure if the samples that I got had gone off or something, but the opening is harsh and sour and does not smell sweet or floral at all. After 15-20 minutes you get the violet scent coming through, but it is really hard to make it through that first stage...

A really nice violete scent. A step up to the classic "Agua de violetas" which is a classic intro for young girls and boys to the scent world. Evoking a calming soothing scent from the youth....is a more lasting version. Cassual....perfect for the office, staying at home relaxing or just for everyday use.
