Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Eau de Parfum

I am very surprised over two things: No one mentions sea fennel which after all should be one of two main impressions. The second is how natural and well made this EDP version is. Absolutely stunning. It oscillates between wafts of said sea fennel (rock samphire), sea wormwood and various impressions from the north west, European Atlantic coasts. I did not expect that from a relatively unknown house. I am reminded of Osaïto from M. Micallef, but here we are taken into a mix of conifers and coastal aromatic herbs with very little musk, florals and no sandalwood by comparison. I am also reminded of Klubwasser, from Wienerblut; it is as if the landlocked Viennese crew went on holiday by the seaside. Although very niche-y, I think CCaSF is suited for the workplace, because of the calm, discreet yet strong presence it has. Spring through all of autumn.

This is probably the better in the line up (bar possibly Tobacco Absolute which I have yet to try the EDP version). A gorgeous vibrant and fresh scent - overly simplified a herbaceous green cypress leaf, a touch pine wood and just an enough salty sea breeze. Not overly complicated but a decent sillage and alright longevity 3-7 hours. If I compared it - it would be the entry step followed by Bvlgari Aqua and Sarah Baker Atlante. This being the sweetest and the following more marine and more salty. This infact is a slightly deeper and sweeter version of Bvlgari Aqua Marine Toniq which sadly discontinued. My only complaint is an EDP for its price it’s not a super difference over the EDT - however I find Molton Brown EdTs underwhelming anyway - I would recommend any of their bathing products though... amazingly good value...

THIS ! Instant love and very similar to my long lost loved New West for her form Aramis from 1990. This is the scent from my youth in a bottle. I really dont know how to describe it...Aquatic, juicy and sea breeze with cypress in the background. The notes that are listed are not at all similar to New west - but it is almost the same. Cedar, leather and musk are base notes in both and bergamot as top note. The middle notes are quite different. I have an old bottle of New West and comparing these is marvelous. Words can’t describe how lucky I feel . I bought the 7,5 ml sample and will go for a full bottle- maybe also a backup. Yes it is unisex - yes I will wear it all spring and summer time. Yes I will enjoy this for both nostalgia and for it is. Yes its a bit pricy but worth it. Moderate silage and longevity.

I bought a sample of this EDP having used their shower gel. I very much adore this fragrance as it does remind me of taking shelter from the sun among a cluster of trees by the coast. Before committing to buying a bottle of this EDP on Ebay, I felt compelled to buy a load of samples of a range of perfumes featuring Cypress. I discovered several lovely fragrances with completely different characteristics, mostly more autumnal and wintry, but Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel is so uplifting and summery to me that I kept coming back to it. I even got a sample of James Heeley’s Sel Marin, as another poster suggested similarities. I like both, but this one is by far my favourite.

I get lots of cardamom and cypress at first, then it morphs to have plenty of marine/aquatic notes. Later on the leather comes out, but I don't ever get much vetiver. Somehow, the resulting scent is a juxtaposition of fresh spicy and leathery at the same time. I love it. I truly see why this is one of the cult favorites with the Molton Brown line. It's pretty unique, at least I haven't ever sampled anything quite like it. Also, the EDP version has good projection and staying power. This is basically what I had hoped Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt would be, as I ended up truly disappointed by that one. What a difference some decent base notes make!

I recently bought this and really enjoy this scent. If you're looking for the typical aquatic fresh out the shower fragrence I would not recommend, although it has a freshness to it, its not watery clean freshness, it's more of an authentic sea, and earthy coastal scent. It's woody, salty, minerally, a little briny, a little earthy. It really capture that realistic earthy coastal smell that takes you to those memories of a weekend away at the beach and that smell when you step out of the car after the long drive to get there and you're hit with that beautiful earthy sea air.

Been trying to get this and the tobacco in EDP form in Australia for ages and out of the blue it finally appeared in a gift pack in the stores. I grabbed it immediately and it doesn’t disappoint. Just like the wash it is a simple uncomplicated fresh scent. Mainly Cypress, Cedar, a touch of fennel, a smidge salt and airy freshness via non descript citrus it works very well. The first 2 hours are reminiscent of trees by the ocean. Afterward the saltiness drys down and it reminds me of Bulgari Acqua Marine Tonique except stronger and mashed with cedar. Impressive for the price.

I’ve been obsessed with this from the second I first smelt it. Now have the shower gel and deodorant. Imagine a crisp salty water elixir with woody aromas from an enchanted forest fermenting inside it. It’s that in a bottle. Very present bottom notes of Vetiver and Leather. Shines in hot weather and can definitely work in formal environments during colder times. Overall good performance and projection. 10/10 if you’re looking for something very unique. Underrated masterpiece !

I remember sampling this once a couple years ago and was not moved by it, but after buying the molton brown edp discovery set i had an opportunity to revisit and it is much more pleasing than i remember. It’s not your typical blue shower gel smell, and hardly leans on citrus notes for freshness, it’s very well blended and hard to pick out any individual notes but i would say the dominant notes i pickup are cypress and spice, and i think this has year round versatility

I'm obsessed with this on my husband. As the name would suggest it's light and aquatic - a great clean, sophisticated, maybe even understated smell. It smells youthful without being immature and the dry down is gorgeous. It doesn't carry as far as heavier colognes so you have to be closer to smell to it but I'm really not a fan of the generic overpowering spicy male colognes so when he tried this I was a big fan!

For a cypress and sea fennel fragrance it’s interesting that cardomom is so prominent. All I can smell is beautiful cardomom initially and must say that this is my favourite fragrance from Molton Brown. The shower gel is gorgeous and I simply can’t get enough of this addictive offering. Can’t wait until I can add this to my collection.

this is it for me. this is the one. if you've ever been to the central coast of california or to monterey bay, this is what it smells like when you go there and first open the car door. i want a gigantic bottle of this. i want the candle and body wash and all the things.

I had a sample of this and i was in love with it, very aquatic, herbal and unique, and extremely good longevity for a fresh fragrance. I'm thinking of buying a full bottle, for the corect price of course. 8 out of 10 for me.

I get a Sel Marin vibe less the seaweed and not so salty. Im really enjoying this offering. Looking forward to seeing how she behaves in the warmer weather that is on the horizon. 8.5/10 👍

Incredibly fresh. The smell you get when you are in a forest that touches the sea and a slow wind passes through. Good daily summer fragrance.

This opens with a peppery snap—fresh and definitely bracing. As it settles, the vibe turns green and marine. The cypress note really stands out here, while the wood and leather base plants this firmly in masculine territory. That leather note has a raw edge to it, but the fresh cypress keeps it from getting too dirty. instead, it balances out to something clean, almost soapy. Who is this for? This is a grown-up fragrance. It’s for the guy who wants to smell clean, but without that cheap, synthetic sweetness you get from generic "I smell clean" style scents. Think less "shower gel" and more "rugged but clean gentleman." It fits the guy wearing a chambray shirt or a structured wool sweater. When could you wear this? It’s a solid reach for just about any occasion because it is versatile and inoffensive—nobody is going to complain about this one. It works particularly well in the summer heat. Just a heads-up, though: you’ll want to go heavy on the trigger. It sits very close to the skin and doesn’t project much, so don't be afraid to apply liberally.

Straightup, this aint no unisex. Masculine fragrance definitely. Opens up with this nice spicy woody freshness which settles into something more like an incense which I think comes from a blend of the leather, animalic and musky undertone. Direct sniff could be headache inducing but overall a great smelling fragrance. Now on to its strength, I am a little underwhelmed because it doesn't seem to project much even though its sillage is better, only by a wee bit. I wish it had more power, because it is such a nice masculine spicy fragrance. If you are not in to spicy woody fragrances with incense nuances then probably best to steer away from this, but if you want to smell bold and confident (providing you're willing to spray more than a few sprays to really make the scent stick a bit), then I'd say get your sniffy nose on this one and give it a try. Let's put it this way, if this one had an extrait (beast mode) performance, I'd be buying another bottle.

I've smelled and owned many many marine fragrances (my favorite is DS Durga Rockaway Beach) and this one is really unique. Although totally different than wood sage and sea salt, the vibe is the same except this one is more complex. It doesn't unfold in stages, it pretty much hits me all at once. But as I sit here smelling it on my skin, it smells like so many different things and it brings back great memories I smell trees (leaves and wood) I smell dirt, dune grass and vetiver, sea breeze, leather, cedar, and the smell of skin after you and your spouse and friends have spent a whole day at the beach, before you've showered. Very vivid niche but strangely it has enough polish to wear to a corporate job. This strongly reminds me of being a beach bum as a teen. His smell always comforted you. That’s what this perfume reminds me of.

This is an extremely realistic mossy coastline scent on the drydown, and it would be essentially perfect if my nose didn’t detect so much damn lemon in the opening. Is it really that difficult to make a dark seaside scent? Anyway, that’s my only complaint. From what I’ve tested from them so far, Molton Brown seem to be like Jo Malone on steroids.

It's a lovely rich blue/green with a bit of body in the dry down due to the leather, musk and vetiver but it's nothing revolutionary. A bit more interesting than the usual designer freshies and it's obviously made with quality ingredients. However it's just far to expensive for what it is so I'd never buy a full bottle.

Great daily fresh/woody fragrance, easy to wear and smells a lot more niche compared to other designer brands. Great fragrance especially for the price as it smells a lot more expensive than it is. It smells like a much better niche version of le sel d’issey edp which I also own. Very happy with the purchase 👍🏼

Bought a 10ml in a Molton Brown discovery set. It's thoroughly pleasant, but nothing to write home about. It's a take on D & G Light Blue - Fresh and sea watery with a dash of musky undertow. If you're interested in the blue frag genre, sample a few houses/flankers to learn what you like before purchasing!

This is very beautiful in the opening - fresh, salty, unisex and herbaceous. But I’m glad I didn’t just buy it, as after 20 minutes it becomes a smoky incense scent on me. My favourite from the entire range though.

uplifting, green earthy, ''mossy'', aquatic and pleasnt. it really reminds me of a coast with grass. it's smells nice but i can't recommend it for the longevity. like its poof gone for me after barely an hour.

This is a nice fragrance with decent strength and longevity but a much more affordable alternative that is almost identical in smell and longevity is Calvin Klein Escape.

Doesn’t smell as gorgeous as the shower gel. If we’re rating the shower gel fragrance? 5/5. This loses some of the magic and is a bit sharp/sour to my nose.

I’m yet to find a perfume from Molton Brown that I like, and this one is yet another to add to the list of disappointments. This green aromatic-aquatic doesn’t leave much of an impression on me besides “that’s alright”. The cypress note is fresh, a vibrant green leafy facet contrasted by the somewhat muted bitter dryness of vetiver and leather. Then wash over it all with a salty sea spray. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Well it is, and yet just ends up smelling a bit weird. Sometimes there’s nothing worse than a perfume which bores you. I’d prefer to either love it, or really hate it, but I feel neither - just meh. The leather accord I feel is a bit too prominent, which makes the fresh greenery feel a little plasticky.

Opening is very bergamot heavy. I do get the "sea notes" and cypress in the middle notes but they don't last a long time. I don't get the jasmine or olibanum. I get a lot of the vetiver and cedar in the base notes. This is giving a masculine vibe to me. I'd recommend this for somebody who is really into vetiver, has it's pretty heavy in its presence for most of the time. I actually got a sample set specifically because I wanted to try this and it's just meh for me, so not a safe blind buy.

Absolutely not related to the homonymous shampoo, which is a pity because the shampoo is a marvelous fresh aquatic. However this is reminiscent of something else..wait a minute! This is reminiscent of Oud Minerale by Tom Ford! What a pity Molton Brown. 5.5/10

smells kinda like seaweed or moss in a nice way, not a bad scent at all just smells like realistic greenery. quite an old persons scent.

Something gives funky mushroom juice and fishy water... The two combined literally smells like manure. So sad... I had high hopes cuz their body wash were all so good

This is a humid, woody, aquatic bomb. Whereas I love the coastal freshness of the shower gel, the perfume version is so suffocating for me. Just cannot stand it. The quality is decent but the cypress/vetiver explosion is too much for my liking although I really enjoy unisex heavy perfumes. This is a big no.

This is my first try at a Milton Brown fragrance and I’m not disappointed. Quite similar to Imaginary Authors Every Storm A Serenade except not quite as sweet and without the eucalyptus note but the similarities are striking although this has much better performance with long lasting longevity and a fair degree of projection, something the IA lacks. A fresh, almost bracing aquatic labelled as unisex but I find it distinctly masculine. The dryness and leather base makes it suitable for year round wear. Indeed, it’s the dry woodiness of this fragrance that stops it going into designer aquatic territory. The leather is there in the base giving it a solid grounding without being leather dominant. The vetiver and musk also help to give the fragrance some tenacity. Beautifully presented too this is a winner to me and a nice addition to my collection.

An absolutely stunning fragrance. The quality of the ingredients is first class. I can smell this after 8 hours with only 3 sprays. The name captures the essence of the perfume perfectly; imagine a fresh coastal breeze with the salt and ions lifting your mood: that's how invigorating it will make you feel. The Cypress is the leading note but you pick up all of the others mentioned above; special mention for the beautiful sea notes. This is perfectly unisex; I wouldn't say it was a date night scent because it's refreshing as opposed to intimate but you will get compliments I'm sure. 10/10

Wear this over a wooly jumper and observe your victims being enchanted along the way. Leans masculine however I adore it as a female wearer. I specifically enjoy the strength it exudes. It gives me all the winter coastal walk vibes. A foggy Cornish morning at Kynance Cove, Jo Malone's Sea Sage & Salt would never! This plus the Black Pepper line are my undisputed top 2 choices from Molton Brown.

A real quality fragrance. It feels grown and well done to the point of being slightly corporate. I like to wear for work and feel confident doing so. One of the best performers of my collection in terms of sillage and longevity. I feel like this collection of EDPs from Molton Brown is one of the best kept secrets in the industry. I’m dumbfounded how more people aren’t commenting on them here: they really are high-quality, long lasting and well priced.

I smelt it first when my mum gave me a set of mini hand wash bottles. First hit I looked around for the EDT as was hooked. I really get sea air from this, the charged ions, the salt, it's windswept. The driftwood just under the surface. I would spritz myself with this during the pandemic if I was feeling numb or depressed. beautiful clean smell. It's a treat, the longevity isn't incredible, but I love it anyway.

I'm a young woman and I loooove this perfume. I got it in a 7,5 ml bottle set with 3 other scents and this is my fave. Makes me feel like being on a beach on a cloudy and windy day. I can't tell which notes smell like what, all I know is that this is beautiful and it makes me very nostalgic.

Overwhelming woodiness in the opening, do not get fig, ginger or sea water. This is like a cypress bomb. I get a wall of cypress, cedar, incense and jasmine. Very abrasive. Don’t really love this harsch opening. Let’s see if this is redeemed in the drydown.

Starts evergreen tree, salt water and resin on me. Dries through a gorgeous resin stage keeping the salty water note and ends a fairly nice men’s cologne, but I like the journey. Very masculine overall.

Sharp, fresh and woody, luckily I can't smell the cardamom. A bit too sharp for my liking, but definitely clean smelling. I feel here are nicer scents in this category with a more reasonable price tag.

Similar vibe to TF Oud Minerale, except that this, unlike the TF, doesn't smell disgusting! This is how Oud Minerale should have been like. Oh, and reviewer below....don't be silly.
