Orange & Bergamot

Summer has arrived and I've recently been using the Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot shower gel, which has a really uplifting yet comforting scent. I went ahead and ordered the Eau de Toilette, hoping it would stay true to the scent of the shower gel (which it does). I was not disappointed, it smells lovely, perfect for warm Summer days. It's citrusy but definitely not too sharp, a bit soapy/creamy but not overly so, just the right amount of neroli, the right amount of sweetness and a bit of depth. Very well blended, very smooth to my nose. This is going straight onto my "love" list, it's perfect for those warm days when you might not be in the mood for a stronger perfume, but want something refreshing yet comforting. A most uplifting/happy scent, easily unisex.

This is one of my “feel good” perfumes. Yes it’s weak. Yes it’s not incredibly innovative, yet it’s such a beautiful scent overall. It’s citrus heavy but not boring at all - in fact I think it has character and charm about it. It’s like a waft of summer air carried over fresh fruit and flowers. It opens with the most delicious orange and bergamot duo that boasts a beautifully summery and vibrant facet, paving the way to neroli and an almost juicy Ylang-Ylang. It’s green and floral around the edges with touches of soapy sweetness. Think of the most opulent and luxurious hand soap in the bathroom a countryside manor and you have this. It’s delicate and breezy, transporting you to a picnic on a warm hillside in high summer. Such an underrated gem.

A bright zesty citrus burst of orange, bergamot and lemons on first spray. On my skin I get a sharp citrus rind kind of scent and then the neroli and ylang-lang becomes very prominent. Dries down to a lovely woodiness in the base. This fragrance lasts a good few hours on my skin with excellent longevity and sillage. Perfect for the spring and summer. Work and gym friendly. I guess I’m lucky with this EDT concentration as it lingers and lasts a good while on myself.

My go-to, no-brainer perfume currently! I tried both the EDP and EDT and my choice goes to the EDT version. The reason is that this EDT perfume is more simple and very easy to reach on a daily basis, especially that I live in a tropical country that is humid and have basically all-year summer.

Opens with a blast of orange-y citrus. After the opening notes dissipate, you can immediately start smelling the woodyness of it (I'm guessing from the petitgrain). I do agree with emi11 that it's a green scent but I disagree that it's unisex. This is definitely a masculine leaning scent. The neroli, ylang ylang and musk are all there in the base notes. Overall an inoffensive and clean smelling men's fragrance, but nothing particularly special.

At first it smells like freshly cut orange, lemon and crushed bergamot and then it turns strictly soapy and clean with an underlying ylang-ylang+neroli in a slightly masculine way. This must be one of the cleanest fragrances out there.

Nice twist on a classic, manly scent. The twist being the introduction of a strong and balanced, nuanced ylang-ylang note over photorealistic lemons. Synthetic orange on a petitgrain and cardamom base.

Soap. Not because the fragrance and the oils are typically associated with soap because they are added to it. No. Soap, the actual smell of the saponified oils. This smells of unscented soap. The orange is very prominent along with neroli and petitgrain, a beautiful wisp of cardamom in the middle, ylang-ylang creamily at the base. Wouldn't say there's much musk, or bergamot. The bergamot is drowned out seemingly by the other citruses. I would have called this Orange & Lemon or Orange & Neroli. But soap throughout. Fresh, pleasant, cheerful. I'd position this as a more mature fragrance, oddly enough, though. I'd err feminine and 40+.

My family used to have this same scent as body wash and lotion and it was so good, but the perfume? I wouldn't approve... Way too sweet for me. I was hit by a very out-to-get-you type of sharp citrus scent. Seems to lack the smooth subtle milky finish that the body wash has. If the body wash was like Citrus:Plant:Milky=4:3:3 the perfume version is like 7:2:1. Not the same.

Oh, this is really lovely. Starts with a blast of sweet orange - more orange juice or orange blossom rather than the fruit directly. A second later the sugar somewhat dissipates, leaving room for a hint of bitterness that rounds the scent out and adds a more naturalistic touch. We're still in orange juice territory, but it's definitely of the 'fresh-squeezed-with-pulp' variety rather than concentrate. Neroli tends to turn astringently bitter and soapy on me quickly so it's honestly a surprise that this one doesn't . I can see that some have mentioned it turns soapy on them and I can see how it could lean that way, but on my skin the sweetness manages to save it from edging into that territory. As ever, could be a skin chemistry thing - it's "clean" in that it gives the impression of being well-polished, light, and well-behaved, but on me it manages to stop shy of bathing product associations. Speaking of being light, this is firmly of the "watercolour" school of fragrance - this is a friendly spring-and-summer accent to an outfit, not the outfit itself. Seems to be pretty linear, but sometimes that's what you want - this is a cheerful pick-me-up, not a complicated powerhouse, and that's okay. Sometimes what you need is a good mood in a bottle.

Not a complicated scent but oh does it make me happy! I've loved this scent for years, ever since it was called Naran Ji. When we went out drinking in the late 90s, we'd always stop by a certain hotel to use their facilities and this was the soap they used in their bathrooms. I've loved it ever since.

December 2020 Grisego below is right. This IS soapy. You dont smell the Bergamot. This smells of Lemon, Neroli, and Orange Blossom. If you ever smelled those 3 notes together, then you know that they often smell like pure soap. That is what happened in this perfume. S-O-A-P

This is lovely. The only citrus that i like to wear on myself that doesnt give me cleaning product vibes. It is my christmas day perfume as I normally get a mini shower gel in my stocking and the whole smell reminds me of luxurious treats.
