Russian Leather

This is excellent. Pine, leather and tobacco are clearly expressed from the opening, but the leather is subdued and of high quality. The tobacco smells like an unlit cigar. The smoke is smoky with iodine. The combination reminds me of a scotch Laphroaig. There is not much sweetness, it is dry, dark, sophisticated and modern. I can see why it is described as a forest smokiness, not quite a bonfire. I fell in love with this one instantly. This top note is very close to the Irish Scotch nuance I was looking for. It is surely burning the inside of the barrel. If there was a slight sea saltiness here, it would have been perfect. However, I can understand why people would pass on this. It's because it opens with a peat-applied aroma. It settles down after an hour and everything starts to balance out and draw leather. When this smokiness mixes with the air and is faint, you get the scent of new leather goods of very high quality. For an EDT, it performs well and lasts well. Great, really great balance.

La regalé a mi marido compra a ciegas ya que tenía el Coastal Cypress y Sea Fenmel, (el azul clarito) y tan fino con ese aroma a pino delicado, fresco aunque a la vez punzante que al probar éste Russian Leather... menuda ostia, tan diferente que en principio nos hizo rechazo ultra potente PEROOO... cuanto más usa ésto más me gusta y a él también, un perfume muy masculino y un secado seductor y viste tan bien, elegante y al fin un perfume masculino y nuevo porque últimamente hoy en día los perfumes masculinos están muy afeminados. Ésto es sexy y masculino a la vez que profundo. Me encanta, èso sí No lo compres a ciegas, pero si el gel Russian Leather de Molton Brown te gusta ésto te va a gustar igual, yo de hecho lo compré porque cuando mi marido salía de la ducha con éste olor más me gustaba

Very sexy and masculine! The scent reminds me of expensive leather seats in an expensive car. Sounds cheesy but the scent of this fragrance is very niche like for the price you pay. Warm and inviting and the fact that there is no citrus or floral notes that is usually composed in most leather perfumes so not headache inducing. The green and spicy tones gives this one a beautiful warmth that is perfect for wearing in cold weather.

I love it!!! This is very dark, smoky and unique scent that you can brake/ mix with for example with Molton Brown Rosa Absolute Firstly I spray Russian Leather, and straight after on the top the Rosa Absolute...and compliments are keep coming in my direction all day long. Of course you can wear R L on its own but I like to mix it with other fragrances ( Roberto Cavalli edp, Dior Addict or Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose).

My first Molton Brown fragrance for a while, and I am in love with it. It's classy, refined and overtly masculine, a smelly you'd associate with a well turned out, leather gloved man driving an MGB GT, yes it's traditional and classic, but it's not dated. I get pine and leather car seats, bud also a hint of tobacco. Longevity and sillage were pretty good, it even survived a bath. Love it.

I looove this Russian Leather so much! I can detect all the notes and they're all gorgeous and blended well. The leather - cool and smoky, tobacco and vetiver stand out most for me. its so sexy and masculine.

This scent is nice, it reminds me of a bonfire in the forrest whith the smell of pinecon and smoky leather with a hint of tobacco, very nice and comforting scent again from the house of molton brown.

Smoky without heading into bonfire territory. Very well blended with prominent tea and leather but for me the most prominent note is birch. I've never tried a Molton Brown Fragrance before but found this here by accident while doing a search by note. I was looking for a more affordable alternative to my beloved Masque Russia Tea. This fits the bill quite nicely. Performance wise this is very good for an EDT though it's projection is more akin to an EDP sitting closer to my skin than I'd expect. It projects quite well for 2-3 hours before drying down and projects at a little less than arms length for another 3 hours or so. Performs a little better when layered with the shower gel, however the best boost I was able to give it was layering with ISO E super which added about 2 hours to the fragrances lifespan on skin. This retails at £45 for 50ml but easily got for around £30 on ebay. This sits between a like and a love for me, and not quite sure what is holding me back from being more enthusiastic about the fragrance. Its high quality and keenly priced. Well worth a look. EDIT: I recently sampled the EDP version of this. I was hoping it would bring that missing something that I felt the EDT lacked in terms of performance. The EDP does perform very slightly better, maybe giving an hours extra longevity. On wearing the EDP I was reminded of Gucci Guilty Absolute. I never made that connection with the EDT version. I also think the EDP is poorer for not having the tea note present in the EDT.

Birch and pine. That was my thought when I first sprayed this. Fast forward 4 hours - uhh...nothing has changed. I don’t want to shit on this fragrance - it’s not bad - the leather is a bit washed out by the strong birch and pine. I don’t know what I expected, to be honest. I suppose I was hoping for something a little less bracing than what this has turned out to be. Again, it’s not a bad scent, but I think I fell in love with the name - instead of the notes. Birch and pine. Overall, I’d say this is an average scent that leans mature/masculine - cold weather and best worn with a cold heart. 6/10

This is among the better leather fragrances I've tried in that it actually does have a leather scent. It's not a rough or sharp leather, it's soft and aromatic, but it is identifiable as leather. Unfortunately, the leather does not survive into the dry down, which is a very soft, almost vanilla scent. After the opening, there's really not projection at all.

Resinous, overpowering tobacco note. Smells like the inside of ash tray filled with exotic smoke and incensed sticks. Interesting, challenging wear. Artsy, Fartsy. The leather is mild but shines through on all sides. Date I say, an intensely subdued leather fragrance.

Russian Leather - Estrella de la Manana Une Nuit Nomade для меня близнецы

Really curious scent. Smells so much like lapsang souchang. I barely got the woody or leather notes. But it does come out in the drydowm which is a lot mellower and stark in contrast to the opening notes . It's a great well produced scent but I'm not sure this is for me. I really thought it would be totally different

What an bland and unnoticeable fragrance... I saw the notes, was thinking this is interesting. It's farthest from interesting it could be. Boring, insipid, lifeless and dispassionate. This fragrance could give a man middle age crisis in his 20s... That's how disappointing it is.

Very dry, ashy smelling tea, tobacco and leather combination. Very mature smelling with no sweetness. Blind bought half a bottle for €20 but it's not my thing at all.

Birch tar, birch tar, birch tar. Well, the idea of birch tar, anyway. With just the faintest hint of a floral sweetness behind the smoke. That touch of tobacco, perhaps? A little distracting, but forgivable. If you want a relatively affordable Russian Leather that hearkens back to the bitter, bone-dry classics of the 1940s, this is something you will want to try. A good Russian leather should be smooth, intensely smoky (but not "woody"), possessed of terpenes but not overtly resinous, and a rich, dark, timeless affair. While not entirely a masterpiece, Molton Brown's rendition is close.

Tried a spray of this today and found the vetiver to be the most prominent on my skin (female). Sprayed at 11.30 am and, after many hand-washings (sign of the times!), is still quite obvious at 5.50 pm. I also think this would be amazing to add a good base note to many light and airey-fairy florals to ground them a bit. I love vetiver when it's well-done, and this is well-done - I don't care that it doesn't smell of leather particularly, as it smells scrummy and delicious. I'll shop around to see what good deals are going online, because I definitely want a full bottle of this.

I don't see how this could be unisex.. The drydown might be a bit more feminine than the opening, but it's still too dry and strong to be suitable for ladies.. I get more tobacco, woods and pine than leather. To me this is a masculine scent, probably a more interesting one than a lot of men's perfumes out there, I'd rather smell this on a guy than any other top scent. It lacks leather though, or at least I can't find much. I'm still okay with it though. I somehow still get the name despite of that.. :-)

I really like this. It's a classic, masculine, leather chypre, far from your typical contemporary colognes, but not dated either. It's like Polo green for the non-smoking era: It doesn't have to out-stink tobacco smoke like the green beast. I initially tried this as the shower gel and the woodsy stuffiness mixed with green freshness is a great combo. The sales assistant stated Dark Leather is the same fragrance renamed.

Before i even start Russian Leather was discontinued due to its relation to Russia of course, If you want the same smell Milton Brown re released it as "Dark Leather" Lasts about 3-4 Hours on skin (EDT) with good projection in the first 30 minutes, then becomes a skin scent. Great opening Leather, Tobacco, Dry and Dark. Amazing fragrance worth the cost and great for fall spring winter. 9/10

This is one of these scents that sends me. I go more for spicy masculine perfumes and this one is fabulous. Strong on the leathery tobacco but with a slight sweet edge. Most certainly a unisex scent but not for the woman who likes florals :D And the bonus is it is not tested on animals.

strong fragrance, absolutely not unisex, masculine and very much so. probably the strongest kind of leather I have. must compare them all together. it's bad boy. you may like it if you like this kind of vibe.

It feels like the sort of scent you could wear at a bar near the fireplace with a cigar and a glass of whisky. Heavily leathery, smokey and a subtle sweetness.

Q: Does this smell like the Molton Brown Russian Leather shower gel? A: Yes!
