Captain Eau de Parfum

This is a totally underrated fragrance, mostly because of it being named after the beastly original version of the 70s and 80s which was discontinued a long time ago and the high expectation that our childhood memories have that this relaunch will continue with that tradition so we can relive our fathers presence in it, which it fails to do, regretfully. I want to be clear, somehow you can get some of the original magic but only at the very opening, those citric-woody notes that identified the original fougere/chypre, but it fades away very quickly (up to 1h, varying according to skin and temperature) drying down to a floral mix of lavender and orange blossom that softly invades you for quite a long time (I can spray at night and next morning my bed linen smells of it). Put it on your clothes and it will last days. The old strong dry down into oakmoss-vetiver-sandalwood is missing in this one, but don't misunderstand me, it's a very nice and enjoyable fragrance on its own. So it's not that beastly masculine juice that my father used in the 70s and 80s which i used to go and steal some of it from his wardrobe when he was away. But it's a very enjoyable summer scent, very fresh and floral, but not less masculine than what is being issued these last 10-15 years by all the major designers/niche parfumers for their new metro sexual public. Also, it's an acquired taste, maybe not for blind buying and it takes time to fully appreciate its beauty. A testament that tastes change and first impressions are not always the right or best ones. EDIT: Four years after this review, I can honestly say that it's very very similar (80%) to Bleu de Chanel EdT, but it's more potent, lasts longer and projects even longer. So for those of you looking for a bargain BdC, this could be it.

A pretty potent sweet floral, warm, woody, soapy and ginger juice. As an EDP it has a decent longevity. It's strangely addictive with a spadeloads of character and I keep wanting to return to it. I really love this one and I'm glad I bought it, I would definitely buy another. This perfume is so pleasant and it grows on you. *update* - Just bought another bottle - like this a lot

This fragrance is what I expected in terms of genre, a slightly modernized Lavender Powerhouse, other than that I was underwhelmed. It's a very conservative collection of notes, which are not very natural, lavender and citrus with a generic wood base so this won't be offending or surprising anyone. The longevity and projection aren't anything special, they're just alright. This fragrance doesn't take risks and therefore doesn't stand out, probably it's greatest achievement is bringing back that oldschool lavender powerhouse scent and tuning it down by changing coriander and other notes for citrus, so newer generations (used to fresh sweeties) are not repulsed by it. This is probably best worn by 25+ men, suitable for cold or warm weather, I'd wear this mostly in cloudy spring and fall days.

ABSOLUTELY nothing in common with the original which I have, in fact, to me smells like a Clone of Mont Blanc Legends..so disregard manufacturer's website assertions that this is updated from the one and only Captain

The perfume Captain was originally released in the year 1975 and I may only know about three people who had the chance to wear it that way. It is worth remembering that the Molyneux brand is not usually the first choice for those passionate about fragrances, but the company has more than a century of life and its first fragrance dates back to 1925. When touches the skin, this fragrance reveals all its fougère side, pulling the moss up, in contrast to the bergamot. At first, young people of today will certainly not like this scent. And that's okay because the market needs to offer fragrances for people of all ages, styles, and tastes. However, Captain EDP For Men changes and, in a few minutes, shows itself to be a beautiful aromatic, bringing a strong note of orange blossom combined with lavender, an ingredient that is present throughout evolution. Here, the modernization process is present, as if the fragrance from 1975 had entered a time tunnel straight to the present day. Then, Captain EDP For Men begins to behave more elegantly, when the violet leaves emerge and exhale with force, mixing with the fruity and aromatic fragrance. More than that, there is an icy, almost minty smell, resulting from the combination between anise and ginger. Regarding the base notes, the result is not as woody as you think when looking at the pyramid notes. But the moss remains alive to the end as if it was the last link to the classic-style version of the past. Captain EDP For Men surprises for its quality and performance, it combines a lot with professional environments – not necessarily the more formal ones – and has a bit of versatility in terms of climate. The bottle looks black but has a teal color that takes on another life when viewed against the light. It was the way the brand found to connect with the original version. And, as usual, Molyneux manages to offer an excellent cost-effective product, which is always off the radar of the main public, when it had everything to be more successful. As I am openly in love with Quartz Pour Homme, I confess that this does not surprise me.
