Ambre

This doesn't really smell like amber based fragrance, furthermore amber is not listed among notes either, so this was a surprise to say the least. Not only I was used to amber note/fragrance being powerful/overwhelming, but also expected something more daring from very talented nose like MdO. Ambre opens with funky top notes - sharp cedar note and ylang - but in few minutes the funkiness fades away and appears something so beautiful, fragile, creamy scent of tolu, benzoin and vanilla, perfectly blended MdO style, instantly made me think of that warm, cozy, restful feeling/smell on the sun-soaked skin after the day spent on the beach. Gentle, smooth and unobtrusive oriental, linear with medium to low projection and lasting power, in a way reminds me of more polished version of MPeG Or des Indes - pleasurable, graceful, polite but considering the price, probably not full bottle-worthy. Drydown reveals a skinscent somewhat lacking in complexity/basenotes, so either re-apply or longingly recall the middle as the best part of this composition. Edit (2022., rectangular flacon): Several years later, we meet again. How I judged you wrong, dear Ambre! Only now I can appreciate your abstract yet delicate character, so soothing. Masterpiece.

Another approach to amber! More than "simple" ambergrìs: all is added here come to work perfectly! The ingredients, the ingredients, the ingredients.... Always and only the best ones: so great that some times it is impossible for us even to recognize and appreciate them as they deserve. I agree with all your reviews ; ) Long lasting either on the skin or on the paper also. And again I keep on asking to myself why M.lle Mona di Orio's creations have somewhere (outside Europe) been so badly, unwisely and arrogantly ill treated when not openly boycotted!?! Probably noses also can suffer from jet lag.....perhaps.

sontuoso, ricco, caldissimo, questo accordo di ambra parte con note super evanescenti fiorite di ylang ylang. L'assestamento è rapido, meravigliosamente avvolgente e adatto a climi freddi. Le note che si rintracciano sono ovviamente l'ambra, ma anche ambra grigia, qualcosa di affumicato (forse il legno di cedro), insieme a benzoino e tonka (o forse cera d'api?). tra le mie ambre preferite, manca delle note erbacee di ambre sultan, ma rimane una fragranza di altissimo livello. eccellente!

Ambre is....... a soft dark and light stripes brown fur cover in a dark starry room ... to me it's like the bedroom smell of "Amélie" movie (2001) with that fur cover instead of hers. Sometimes is quite sharp because of the balsamic note and i feel there are allot of saffrons to it.

Effortless but also daringly confident. Ambre doesn’t have unusual notes or a complicated structure; it’s the kind of amber scent you would imagine an intelligent woman wearing. It’s present, soft, powdery, slightly gourmand and comforting. Lovely.

What a beauty I am so happy I got a chance to try this. That I found a little decant from fragrance line. I will get one more 2 ml size. This is what perfume is all about.

It's very soft, warm, and slightly animalic; if it wasn't for Absolue Pour le Soir, I would've gotten this!

Mona di Orio Ambre Opens up with aldehydic powder, ylang ylang, a melon note, and an amber accord. The composition is balanced and gentle. Nothing offensive. Nothing jumps out. Colour that come to mind are cream, yellow, off white. The colours deepen as the fragrance develops. The fragrance is like a lanky blonde in a yellow dress. Unremarkable, yet well mannered, somewhat elegant and inoffensive. She does not ignite your imagination, yet there is nothing repulsive about her. Her dress is not to your taste, but it is impeccable. Her voice is strangely monotone, but there is something comforting about it. Your conversation is slow, but if flows and you are on the same page. And the more you talk to her, the more wisdom you see in her. Some time later that day you realize that you just made a friend. For me, Ambre is a comfort scent. It starts off light, gains depth, becomes interesting, but never overwhelms, or lets down. It is not my go to amber, but it has a permanent place in my collection. This is a beautiful amber. It's woody, warm, with traces of florals and something sweet. The sweetness is there, underlying everything, but it's as though the sweetness is suppressed by resins and woods, so Ambre never becomes gourmand, cloying nor too sweet. It's very true to its name. This perfume smells like Amber. Thing is: it reminds me so much of Ambra del Nepal that it wouldn't be worth it to own both. The difference, when speaking of subtleties, is that this one has the whisper of floral that Ambra del Nepal does not have. On the whole, Ambre feels like "perfume" in the old-fashioned sense of the word, an elegant Oriental that a woman might wear to a swanky Christmas party; while Ambra del Nepal feels more down-to-earth, more sacred somehow. So I guess it's about the feel that you are going for. Ambre also leans a bit more feminine. But really, the differences are so subtle that I will stick with what I have aready. Lovely perfume though!

While quite feminine, MdO’s AMBRE is a truly superior amber composition and one I’m happy to wear as a man. Rich, sophisticated, warm with a distinctly elegant ylang-ylang note. AMBRE opens with traditional smoky ambergris note, strong and distinct, before fading into a complex and opulent composition of ylang-ylang, cedar and vanilla maybe? The dry down is warm and powdery with a refined smokiness. This is a quality parfum; long lasting with a heavy sillage but by no means overpowering. Head turning. 8.5/10

Very powdery and sweet amber on me, but it takes a while for the amber to become apparent. Very long lasting and obviously a quality frag but quite feminine. Eventually the powdery facet calms down but not soon enough for me. I so appreciate the artistry behind this luscous scent but the powdery nature drives me away. As much as I like this it is not something I see myself wearing very often. Made for a woman...not unisex at all in my mind.

Very warm and cozy as most ambers are. More appealing for me than Ambre Russe but as good as Amber Absolute. Projection is a bit light for an amber but sillage is fine. I would by it if I did not have 5 other ambers. Not a standout but acceptable. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This is it. Heaven and earth in a bottle. It's all woman without any excuse. Amber, vanilla, wood and tolu balsam, a tad ylang-ylang to round and smooth things off. :) love at first sight. (it has to settle first so don't judge on the first quarter)

I like ambergris way more than Mona di Orio's Ambre, but I like this scent, I do. It is calm, polite woodness on me, it is washed in asphaltness and rubbed with a handful of spices.

An old school soapy scent. Not a fan.

A perfume for true amber aficionados, Mona di Orio Les Nombres d'Or AMBRE appears to combine the best of both kinds of amber: golden, gleaming, slightly sweet labdanum amber; and mesh-textured ambergris. I wonder whether both are here or somehow the illusion of ambergris is being created alchemically? Either way, this perfume smells splendid to this amber lover. It is best suited to colder weather, but we are experiencing unseasonably cool temperatures here in Boston, so I thought that I'd squeeze a few more wintertime treats in before the heat descends like a blanket, making scents such as this completely out of the question for me. Aside from the dominant amber/ambergris complex (or reasonable facsimile), I detect a very natural-smelling wood accord, always a treat as the world becomes filled with pseudo-woodishness in the form of aromachemical substitutes for natural scents such as sandalwood and cedar. AMBRE also offers a bit of florality in the form of ylang-ylang (although it's not a strong dose at all), and for that some may find this composition more feminine than masculine. However, the sweetness is really contained (this is much less sweet than, say, Histoires de Parfums AMBRE 114), so to me this seems completely unisex. AMBRE is the kind of amber perfume to choose if you only want one bottle in your collection. But only true aficionados of the genre will appreciate the superior quality of this composition as compared to less expensive amber solinote creations, of which there are many around perfectly capable of fulfilling the same amber urge.

The Nombre d'Or is a beautiful line from Mona, and I so far appreciated every scent that came from it. Ambre is a luxurious scent, it smells and feels rich and opulent. It is heavy, but not overpowering, it is spicy, is is woody, it is only slightly sweet. It is one of the scents that is not only there to smell, but also take you on a journey in time and space. I smell it and see so many different things in front of me. It is a well crafted scent with the slightly dirty amber note being its jewel in the crown, the centrepiece for which the other notes create a well blended, exotic background. It makes me think of Ambre Sultan from Serge Lutens a little bit, they both share this dirty amber note. The amber is lovely backed up by a lot of ylang-ylang. You can tell straight away it is good quality stuff here. It is woody with raw sweetness in it. The more I smell it, the more I enjoy it. Some ylang-ylang fragrances turn soapy on me, this one does not. To most amber scents, this is like dark, 90% chocolate to milk chocolate. Refined and elegant.

*Mona di Orio - Ambre The opening is sweet, powdery and light. The Ylang Ylang gives a sweet floral aspect to this scent and i can feel some honey too. Then this perfume gets smoky and silky itself. I do not see on it distinct phases on the ofactory pyramid, but I feel a combination of two different phases: a sweeter one; and darker another. There is a creamy dry in this scent, I do not know if something here could be benzoin and tonka. Très chic ... Well done!!! Funny how this scent starts with a luminous amber and ends with an resinous aspect, so dark, mysterious and smoky. I felt i was wearing a silk made cloth as a second skin of mine ... P.S. i got something in common with Ambre 114 - Histoires. The Ambre 114 has something more camphorated at its output, whereas this one, sweetie. The dry is sweeter than Ambre Mona. Mona Ambre has a darker and more ambery dry, with too much quality on everything. Both are great. :)

A fairly simple amber with some unusual nuances. Here are some adjectives for you: smooth, soft, dry, powdery, clean, soapy, sweet. The initial opening is sort of gourmandish, but it quickly transitions to being surprisingly soapy and clean for an amber fragrance. Meanwhile the tolu balsam gives a slightly nutty, slightly playdoughy dryness, a "matte finish". I can't really say that I'm picking up any of the ylang-ylang in here. The sweetness is very subtle. As it dries down the soapy quality subsides and what remains is a simple, smooth, cozy amber. Not too dense or heavy - it's feels soft and light but not weak. The vanilla is always there but stays more or less in the background. This is a very pleasant scent, and an interesting take on what's overall a pretty straight-forward amber. It's very friendly and inviting. Leans a little bit feminine but still unisex. Feels like understated luxury.

"ve been a long time fan of Ms. Orio's creativity, but I've never felt like she's stepped up and hit it out of the park. Until now. Amber will really turn some heads. I put it on and went about my day, and after a while thought, "Oh I really love Citizen Queen." And then i remembered. This is powdery, like CQ, but instead of a soft suede under tone it has a buttery, rich resinous chord. Edit: on my second day I picked up on more tonka and benzoin. yes, this is a sweeter perfume, but it is not the tonka stinkfest that I usually get when this note is added. Gourmand lovers may be pleased with this one. I still find it earthy and soft, and there is still the floral note that permeates througout. I still like it and can recommend as an outstanding take on amber. Very wearable.

I have not reviewed this before because I was concerned that all I could smell was baby powder. However, used 3 sprays from a decant today vs 1, and I get it now. The smokiness, the tiny little vanilla, and the warmth. Its spicy. Its so beautiful, however I prefer others do not smell me. I had to use enough to "get it" that others will smell it on me. Which is fine I guess. I've had a few compliments already today, but I am used to keeping scents to myself.

This is a very comforting fragrance. Warm and rich. I am taken in initially, and momentarily absorbed, and then the persistent powdery note takes over and gives it a more stately, matriarch-type vibe on me that I'm not looking for. I do think it's lovely, though. I really do. The cedar and the ylang ylang speak to me. If I could just turn that powder down a notch or two....We could be friends for life.

It smells like lipstick. Not that it smells entirely unpleasant, no. But it is exactly like cheap sweet powdery lipstick scent, that has nothing to do with "amber", in my opinion. Even Nombres d'Or Cuir, which I dislike, seems to have more character and originality than this lipstick scent. Ambre is okay, but I do not consider it one of Mona's greatest works.

Opens with a peaceful breeze of Tolu Balsam, then comes the Ylang-Ylang and the benzoin. It's almost a zen fragrance, but here comes the turning point: The benzoin steals the show and there comes a hot chord of sandalwood-vanilla-and-a-delicate-touch-of-cloves. A great luxury blanket for a cold winter night. Thank you, Mona di Orio.

This starts off almost like baby powder on me. Very, very powdery. It then goes a little more gourmand, and becomes a deeper amber. I can also vaguely smell cedar and benzoin. The amber almost has a nut-like quality to it, and it's a little spicy. I really like the drydown, but don't like the top/mid notes.

i was in a shop of perfum and i saw this one in front of me and i said to my self don't try it because the smell of ambre is very familiar to you then i have changed my opinion regarding that and thanks god for that. i loved it from the first sniff, it's beautiful smell. 10/10

I bought this and I really wanted to love it, unfortunately I don't. It's a soft, sophisticated, mellow take on Amber. I'm an Amber lover, but this turned to expensive powder on me. I think it would be perfect if you're looking for an Amber that's very feminine.

This review is based on a decant. After the sharp opening, it calms down to a nice creamy amber+ylang-ylang scent with average projection and longevity on my skin. Does remind me a bit of Ambre Loup by Rania J.

Not your typical amber as the name suggests. Powdery, women make up bag. Classical vintage women perfume DNA from some years ago. IG: eatandsmellgood

This amber fragrance smells terribly old fashioned, soapy and powdery. Expected more from Mona di Orio.

This is NOT amber!!! It's baby powder! Try before you buy! What a shame!
