Domaine

Domaine opens with a young green and sappy lily of the valley highlighted in a puddle of sun set deep in a shady forest. It’s cool and clean and innocent, but it claims its space with a naive enthusiasm that is absolutely entrancing. Before long the lov starts to retreat a bit into the background of the scent. It never completely disappears, but some other notes come in that redirect the scent from one primarily of nature to one that is domesticated. Of the home and living spaces. This must be where the name Domaine comes in. The fragrance now smells of home. A clean, airy and welcoming home. One that has been lived in for many generations and seen history unfold. The fragrance smells of familiarity and ease, but as to the notes that create this impression, this perfume is so incredibly subtle it’s hard to be sure what they are. Some of the original green freshness remains, along with what may be incense, small amounts of vetiver, sandalwood, tonka. I’ve never smelled a more subtle perfume; I really want to douse myself in it to fully experience it. Above all, to me, it creates serenity. Which is unfortunate because all I have left is a quarter of a sample vial from Lucky Scent and I feel lucky to have that. This beauty is available nowhere. Sometimes we don’t appreciate the things we had until they are gone. Domaine lasts on skin 4-5 hours, slowly tapering off til it’s gone, leaving sadness behind that it can never be experienced again.

I love Domaine, although it took me on a bit of a rollercoaster before realizing how much I truly love it . Upon first sniff, I was captivated and couldn’t get enough of it. On me, this is green, buttery, and slightly indolic, with the slightest hint of natural floral sweetness. Over the next couple of days as I continued playing with my sample, I was picking up more on the indolic qualities and wasn’t sure if I loved it anymore, though it was still a very strong like. I can understand why someone might not like this as this is a white floral fragrance that is so different from the rest. I Kept playing with it and I still found it quite addicting and couldn’t deny that I love this fragrance. I find that the indolic qualities add a raw, carnal quality that some white florals give and it’s done in such a beautiful way in here. I just had to get a full bottle. I want to acknowledge the reviewer underneath me, Kterhark, and how much I resonate with what they said. I’m 31 but I’ve always been more mature in spirit, and I feel this speaks so much to my mostly introverted personality. It’s funny though because this fragrance has attracted a lot of attention as I’ve recently worn this out two days in a row and have gotten compliments from strangers both days. It seems to have strong silage and lasts all day on me, however I am heavy handed with my sprays.

My first impression was „it smells like as if I stepped into a room full of books”, and it’s quite interesting that a reviewer before me mentioned something like that. It’s a wooden room full of old books, where somebody smoked a very elegant pipe ages ago. At the same time it gives off a very spacious vibe. Can’t sense the lily of the valley, or I guess it’s a challenge for me to find it here, but that's on me. A safe choice but not a blind buy, unless you like the brand. I personally love every single offering from Mona di Orio and admire their work. Overall surprising but a very discreet and calming introverted beauty.

I'm not going to overturn the apple cart here: my first impression was a "room full of paper". Mona di Orio always sets a 'scene' with their compositions, which is easily visualized at first sniff. I've now worn Domaine three times. It's a fainter scent so you can use a heavier hand, and I wanted to because I love lily of the valley. This is a dry, grounded, green fragrance that wears well on a humid day. Do wear it multiple times before reviewing, though, because the sample needs to 'breathe'. With each wearing I found it better behaved. (My first sniff was 'meh' but my third full wearing was 'want to buy' ) I would say this is a more 'mature' scent, and for the record I am 52. I would also say this is truly a unisex composition. Those who are drawn to it are likely intellectual introverts with interesting life stories to tell.

I got this in my “fragrance fitting” from Lucky Scent. I told them I liked lily of the valley. I had never heard of this house, but I quickly went through the sample. Something in this reminds me of Angel. It’s not remotely the same, but there’s an earthy quality they share. I had to get a full bottle because I find it to be quietly sexy and intriguing. Full disclosure, I'm a book nerd and poet. Something that smells like a library would be sexy to me. Maybe mature = sexy? 😂 Must be an old soul to appreciate.

Quietly woody, Domaine isn't going to set the world on fire, that's for certain. Nor is it going to please though who were hoping for a more forward lily of the valley. It's buried deep, obscured by a sweet, if not hackneyed amber, and vague woods. Far too much ambroxan for my liking as well. It's rather a disappointment, a nothing burger as it were.

Not for a blind buy. It is an unusual lily of the valley. It has a lot of wood, ambroxan (?), patchouli, it's dark at the end, not light. Very interesting. Like a lily of the valley in a room with old furniture and where people smoked.
