Aoud Amber Rose

I'll begin saying that I enjoy this Aoud Amber Rose, it's the type of scent that I like and often look for, but... what does Montale think when he gets up in the morning? Let's do a new perfume with different name and same smell as my other 1000 perfumes. AAR is lovely aoud with rose and the saffron that emerges towards the end of its evolution. In the opening it already has its personality but after a few minutes it recoils to its nature. The amber is soft and even if it's not listed, there is an effect of fine incense that together with other notes reminds me of a churchy place, a little bit like La Via del Profumo Acquasanta, but of course in a totally Montale's way. It smells mystical and this is a slight difference, otherwise it smells like a very similar version of old Aoud Queen Rose. Longlasting with good sillage.

The rose note in this fragrance is nice and noticeable, but not too intensive. On me it's more musky than ambery. Not bad, but it seems to me not interesting enough.

I like it. Oud and Rose. Unisex. Slightly masculine. Great for colder weather.

I like to think I'm not guilty of wanting to like something, but had high hopes for this one. I received my sample and it's pretty much of a scrubber on me; the sample just didn't smell fresh. And eventhough it didn't work on me, there was somthing about it that smelled too much like a couple of Montales I love and own: Black Aoud and Aoud Queen Roses. I guess I wanted that Montale bottle in pink, too, since it would have looked great besides my black and blue ones. Oh well.

Ever sucked on a Strepsils honey and lemon lozenge and thought “gee, I wish I could smell like this”? Here’s your chance! No oud, barely any rose, and certainly not a single drop of amber. Family’s comment: “smells like a perfume that’s too old”. Either they sent me a sample that has gone off, or Montale had fun naming yet another fragrance after something it absolutely does not smell like (looking at you, Intense Cafe). Either way, Montale continues to disappoint.

Montale has a few perfumes featuring rose, oud, saffron, and wood, and this one Aoud Amber Rose, holds its own among the internally generated competition! Very smooth and seductive, with equally balanced rose and oriental and woody elements, it would be tough to say "no" to Aoud Amber Rose. Some reviewers have compared this creation to Bond no 9 New York Oud. I had not really made that connection, so I decided to do a side-by-side comparison this afternoon, as our weather has been unseasonably cool and rainy, with the result that strong orientals are perfectly wearable--even though we're in the middle of June! I found that the Bond no 9 variation on this theme is richer and more luxurious. I actually love New York Oud, and I know that many people have complained that it does not really contain oud, but it smells fantastic, whatever it does contain. There definitely seems to be a big dose of rose implicated... Montale Aoud Amber Rose, in contrast, smells much closer to the other Montale rose-oud-saffron perfumes to me, though it is woodier than most. I've sniffed enough Montales by now to be able to state declaratively that Aoud Amber Rose smells VERY Montale indeed. If you like any of the Montale oriental perfumes, you're bound to like this one as well. I do prefer New York Oud to this composition, but I also believe that they are distinct, and it would be possible to own both without redundancy. Uh-oh.

Aoud Amber Rose is my first introduction to the house of Montale. Perhaps I should have gone for another, more famous Montale offering, however the name of this one intrigued me, so much that I felt it was right. Initially it reminds me of Tauer's Incense Rose, but as the fragrance develops I find this scent much woodsier, leathery and in some ways, metallic. The rose note is beautiful, earthy and rich, just the way I like my roses, especially during the Winter months. I knew Montale produced heavy-hitting fragrances, and for that I'm very glad. It has a slight medicinal feel, and although a little sharp, it leaves me curious. The oud note is as promised, strong and bold, however the amber is fairly light on. The more I wear this fragrance, the more I come to adore it. It's a little bit sexy, in a slightly masculine and powerful way. My man might disagree, but then again, I haven't tried it on him yet. I'll have to agree that this fragrance has the potential to be unisex. Stating the obvious, this fragrance not only lasts but has fantastic sillage. It's a great rose-based fragrance for those, like myself, that enjoy deep, earthy and somewhat dirty florals intermixed with oud, spices or patchouli. It gets the thumbs up from me.

I really want to warm up to Montale, but it seems whatever I try, we are always going separate ways. This should technically work, it has some pretty nice notes: I love rose, I like saffron, I like musk, I like nice oud. This composition has been done quite a lot (I have an impression that every designer has a rose-oud scent under their belt), but this did not have to be a bad thing at all. What is not great, that this leaves absolutely no impression on me. I once smelled The Body Shop quite cheap version of rose-oud combo that was also nice, but cost 10 GBP or so. This is a lot more expensive, but it does not smell like it is. If you can get it at a decent price, it might be worth it; it is a good perfume, with a good long lasting power. But there are better and cheaper scents available if you look for the note combination.

It start very sharp oud rose and Grapefruit!I think the sharpness comes from the Grapefruit & saffron ! at this stage I smell Unpleasant metallic smell for 5 to 10 min and then fades away. I can confirm the presence of incense too. It dry down to : incense oud rose and the musk play a good roll at this stage and make this perfume very fantastic. I love it at the dry down stage. longevity and sillage 10/10 .this fragrance share a very little similarity with : black aoud but I like it more than BLACK aoud. suitable in : Spring fall and winter. And prefer it in winter and rainy times! caution: two sprays more than enough for the whole day.

A fresh,mineral musk rose with an amber sweetness and oud blended,quite delicious and I love the mineral rose musk smell on it,is quite sharp like the blade of a knife cutting through the oud and the amber,it makes a nice night scent.The Amber accord is quite peculiar like fermented plums.Projection is insane,Sexy and luxurious.

A great, strong, lovely scent. Oud and rose and, although it is not listed, quince. I finished my bottle, but when I used the perfume, it was a signature scent.

Im not a real lover of montale perfumes but this one worth a try
