Aoud Ambre

I agree 100% with Roge' and love his idea about "boxing gloves". It is indeed a war scent lol. You are immediately hit with this strong mix which I found wonderful, unexpected and really spooky at the beginning. 5 minutes later I started doubting how daring I should become to ever think of wearing this in public. They are not the same, but another scent that made me feel the exact same way was Kurkdjian's Absolue pour le soir. You get amazed, seduced... but suddenly panic: Would I dare? Well, I've decided I would! In my case this is total love... For women this screams SEXY and for men it is definitely harder to wear (there's something lipstickish or found in many female offerings... can't put my fingers on what it is...) but I believe it screams HOT nevertheless! I can't think of this scent without linking it to erotic thoughts. Just like the Kurkdjian's. Please sample first, I don't want any insults in my mail after failed blindbuys, it certainly won't please most people. It's for the intrepid who are not afraid of powerhouses and of being looked at and desired all night long. Well... I'm not one of those but let's face it: I could well start today! Thanks Scorpiosheep for this wonderful Montale, it's been a real surprise since it has nothing to do with any other of their offerings as far as I know... I keep getting hooked with this house!!!

For ena86 whether this is more suitable for a woman or a man depends on your taste in oriental fragrances. After the initial application and for around an hour I smell the amber and rose and a sweet scent. After that it is a very dry incense aroma the rest of the day. On my skin that's about 8 hours. For me there is no sweet ambery effect which is present in so many orientals. Of course everybodys skin is different and you just have to try it. As they say, your results and mileage may vary. This is one of Montale's many ouds which for some reason has stayed under the radar. I love this version. Great by itself or to layer with a sweeter oriental such as Opium or Boucheron's Jaipur Homme.

it is the percfect aristocratic and royal perfume type ! very gorgeous, very heavy, do not put it in high temperatures you could die suffocated ! it is perfect for great events and ceremonies, and so it could seem a little bit " too much " in every day life days ! but it is the very oriental too much style lol if u like to be too much put it morning and evening, but open the windows anywhere you could be excuse my english

A surprisingly aromatic amber. Verdant and ever so light minty, camphoric bursts of golden zest. Moist, un-cut pine. A rose that is merely a florist's whisper amidst sweet droplets of resin. Somehow warmed salty air elements mingle to enliven scarcely metallic chills of brisk earth enshrined bedrock. High-noon sunbeams warming florals and tree-lined paths.

Montale - The house of many ouds. Their signature lengthy longevity is in full effect yet again with Aoud Ambre. Surprisingly, the scene stealer in this composition is rose. You would think this would be called Aoud Amber Rose. Ironically, Montale makes one with that exact name. So what do we have here? We have a fragrance armed with boxing gloves. The first spritz is guaranteed to knock you on your ass. Like they say in the movies, "Strong like bull". Equipped with more oud than amber, less amber than rose and more rose than labdanum. Everything is very floral near the end with the rose as the anchor. A straight forward powerhouse of a frag with no magic tricks. Everyone will know when you have entered the room; no one will realize that you have left. A true love/like/hate frag. Pencil me in for like.

I ordered a decant of this because I thought I'd like some of the things other reviewers were mentioning as negatives. Soapy. Check. 80s. Check. Mature, classic, vintage. Check. All of those descriptions are accurate based on my decant. What I don't get from my sample is anything powdery, so I would say amber shouldn't be in the name of this one. The rose is front and center, supported by woods. Maybe some patchouli and other traditional chypre notes. The fragrance that most comes to mind when I smell this is Paloma Picasso, although Aoud Ambre is more subdued than Paloma Picasso. I think my timing was off in buying this as it would be a much better fall fragrance than spring. I'll just tuck it away until then.

Surprisingly good, after all that Montale Aouds :) I did not expect myself to like it this much. It does not mean I run to the shop to buy the bottle, but on me it smells really good, mainly the Amber. This is a very creamy Amber, feminine, soft, silky, caressing, and projecting a few meters away from 1 spraying from the sample (yes!). The oud plays the supporting role in this fragrance, and I find this combination pleasant. Give it a try!

This one is just not for me. I was hoping to get rich, warm amber with deep oud and light touch of rose. Instead I smell only a sharp, powdery hard soap. Good quality soap, I must admit, a luxurious one. I can imagine a mature lady or a vintage lover enjoying this scent.

This smells like soap. Even my girlfriend thought so. She said it's like soap. Upmarket soap, not cheap soap. But still soap. She also was shocked to discover that it was a Montale. I totally get what the previous reviewer said about this scent being similar to 80s scents. It's very 80s. And there is no discernible amber, as another reviewer pointed out. Doesn't smell oriental at all, unless you count the soap in the Dubai airport toilets as oriental. Fortunately I only bought a 1ml sample. I would have been extremely disappointed if I had bought even 5ml, let alone a full bottle. Not for me, but if you like 80s, soapy, Western, amberless scents, this could be for you!

Super powerful, but It literally smells like a public restroom at NY. I can't get over the fact that it smells like those restrooms at McDonald's that is big open and airy. You can smell the aoud here, it is strong.

The name of this fragrance is very misleading; I don't smell amber neither Aoud. The reviews below pretty much sums it up: it does smell like soap ( after around 20 minutes ), but a good quality one. I have quite mixed up feelings about this one; it does absolutely not smell like an arabian fragrance if that's what you want to know. Very obnoxious fragrance, yet light at the same time. Performances are very good, I'd even say that it's a beast given the fact that I washed my hands several times and it could still reach my nose from a distance. Overall, a powdery/flowery fragrance, that indeed reminds me of the 80s ( no im kidding i wasn't born at that time ) but i see what they mean. Performance : 10/10 Sillage : 9/10 Projection : 10/10 Originality : 2/10 Sometimes i like this one, sometimes I hate it..

Montale ́s Ambre Oud is all about old fashioned amber and rose. Powdery Rose. Thats what I get. Oud might be there, but it ́s hidden. The mukhallat (mixture) makes it possible. The Name oud is irritating me. I would call this fragrance Amber Rose. In the drydown I get a very old fashioned smell of male perfumery from the 80`s (oakmoss, patchouli?). For the vintage version of this fragrance: Sillage is room filling. Or shortly said higher than Kouros! Staying power seems to be radioactive. Over 4 days with showers every day. Super potent stuff. Edit: I think I got addicted to this stuff. It ́s so good. For me this fragrace is the perfect reproduction of the 80`s masculinity. I can ́t imagine this on a woman!

Starts very strong! Just the other day I've tried Cologne Pour Le Soir Maison Francis Kurkdjian and Aoud Ambre opening was similar to it : screechy, geranium-urines, anilalic. It developed to moldy rose-woody smell on my closing and more moldy-woody on my skin. The final dry-down on my skin - more notes from the beginning showed up and I've got some sort of vintage perfumy smell. Anyway, if you are like me, wanted to try this because you're looking for an amber fragrance, skip this one and look somewhere else. This is not an amber dominant fragrance. There is actually very little amber here and even then it smells synthetic and fake. Amber Aoud is very misleading name for this fragrance.

There is no detectable rose, nor labdanum, in my sample of Montale Aoud Ambre. Interestingly, in a note about this perfume (a different sample) written by me more than a year ago, I described a completely different experience: lots of ambergris, for one thing. This sample smells like strong, somewhat harsh, woodishness. In fact, it smells an awful lot like my memory of Dark Purple, about which I also expressed skepticism. I do believe that some of these apparently house-manufactured samples (obtained on sale--and now I know why--from a decanter) are fakes!

Reminds me to the old beautiful perfumes, which are strong at the beginning, and later are less and less intensive. Beautiful combination of Aoud, Amber, flowers (roses mostly), a bit of incense and wood. As the time passes, the wooden components are stronger and stronger. It is not overly complex-it is more linear perfume that is not transformed excessive.

Tô me this smells like a very good 80d Chypres for women. Animales came to my mind, as well as Soir de Lune, maybe Paloma Picasso, Eau du Soir and, as some suggest, Aromatics Elixir. It is ultra intense and refined, and makes me think of how "notes" given by brands may be vague - it is not an amber fragrance at all.

so as i wrote , rose and synthetic aoud in the very beginning , and then all you have is a strong version of aromatics elixir by clinique ... at least something different from the usual Montale frags.

i do smell the rose only in the beginning and then a powdery note appears . the drydown is a classy vintage powdery smell .
