Aoud Lime

So I got a sample of this beauty a week ago, while searching for something similar to the magnificent "Black Aoud", as people here "see" them similar. Indeed, they smell similar, but only about 10-20% because here the oud is in front and it`s an animalic one, pungent, and that`s what it gives the "lime" in the name, even if it doesn`t have a citric accord in composition. The rose is there, but not so strong like it is in the BA but you definetely smell it alongside that patchouli note which I love. The BA also have that mandarin note which make it different than this one, keep that in mind. Don`t know why people don`t like this one and compare it with toilet cleaner or whatever but this is a beautifull composition, something very different in terms of oud smells, at least for me. Now, for people who want this or Black Aoud: If you want a warmer combination of rose and oud, go with BA, which I adore and I would even do a bath in that smell(it`s so good !). If you want a harsher, drier oud and want to wear it all year around, even in a summer day, go with this one. As for me, I would buy them both, to have more of their juices. Yes, they are different and worth buying them. Aoud lime can easily become my signature scent after I buy it. Just my humble opinion after my nose smelled them both and many more oud based frangrances. Love and peace for everyone !

Never thought I would wear a fragrance with a Rose note ... until I discovered this terrific Oud/Rose combo. The Rose accord on this EDP remimds me a tiny bit of the Rose note in Aromatics Elixir, but in this case it's dry, leans masculine, it's slightly bitter, and it has a tangy character reminscent of citrus, even if it's not listed on the declared notes. Definetely mature. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but of you like Arab style Oud/Rose fragrances, give it a testing. Edit: as a reviewer above me stated, I can confirm that the best way to approach this perfume, is to spray it moderately. 4 to 6 sprays maximum. This perfume is very strong. It has some similarities to Black Aoud, but the Rose is toned down in Aoud Lime, and shares protagonism with Oud, Sandalwood, Patchouli and Iris, which brings some powderiness. Saffron also brings a bit of spicy zing to the composition. It's more herbal, fresher, and different enough from Black Aoud, so imo it will not be redundant. It's also less invasive.

Lime zest! Over standard dark rosy Montale-ade! Like sipping a margarita on a sunny cedarwood porch, next to late-blooming roses. In other words, perfect for daytime wear on a bright autumn afternoon, when you're craving citrus but also wanting more oomph. The lime accord lasts much longer than I thought possible, but I imagine it could turn industrial-smelling if you overspray. I only have a tiny sample, but I'm going to revisit this, as I'm enjoying how it evokes transitional seasons and cooler weather without amber and patchouli elements (I love amber and patchouli, but lately my palate has felt a little fatigued). Montale isn't a house I look to for creativity, but this isn't like anything else I've smelled. If my next sample is as good as this, I'll have to buy some.

I honestly don't understand the two reviews below.. It's one of the best Montale's out there, if not the best. It's the type of fragrance that needs to be smelled from a distance, so smelling it right in your skin when you just sprayed it is not something you should do. It's a very oriental fragrance, your typical arabic fragrance. If you wan't to smell like those rich guys that leave a huge sillage of oud behind them, then this one is for you. I can see why it is compared to Black Aoud, but they don't smell the same at all ! Performances are great, nothing to say here. I recommend it ! Blind buy worthy

One of the better Aoud scents from Montale. I get earthiness with a touch of sweetness with the oud. The oud is a bit more tamed making this more enjoyable as other notes get to shine. In particular the patch combined with saffron is lovely. I have not tries Black Aoud but I will put this on my want list.

Notes listed here aren't correct. This actually has lime in the top. All of these montales that only have a few notes listed actually have more notes than fragantica has listed. This is similar to black aoud but is different enough to justify owning it. 8/10.

AOUD LIME together with ATTAR rules all Aouds of Montale. It's perfect, flawless and impeccable composition with only the best essential oils and aroma compounds!

Magnificent, I own the Place Vendome bottle (before 2012 reformulation !) and its absolutely gorgeous. A true middle eastern scent

Woody, lime and something sweet. Very fresh, but not as strong as I was expecting, I had to spray a few times to make it last.

The dry down reminds me of Chanel's Coromandel. This is my favourite oud perfume !

I blind bought a bottle of this 6 years ago for my 40th birthday collection because I wanted something completely different from what I normally wear and I love the smell of lime so I thought why not? Well, there is no lime in the composition of this perfume and my first reaction was it was too sharp and abrasive. Well, fast forward to last year when I discovered that the bottle was still 3/4 full and I decided to give it a go again to see if it was more appealing. I discovered that with this perfume, a light hand is definitely needed to enjoy it. I guess I was too heavy handed with it in the past so my senses were assaulted. I do get a citrusy vibe in the opening but once that calms down, you start to enjoy the beauty of this scent. It definitely stands out because it is not a common blend especially now with most perfumes smelling like sugar and all things sweet. The sillage is crazy good and people will smell you even when you have left the room. I like how I can alter the composition of this fragrance by layering it with something that can make it even more unique. So, this perfume has moved up from an abandoned blind buy fail to a very strong like now and I will enjoy my bottle now. Montale should do a better job with naming its fragrances better so we are not mislead. I believe this fragrance is unisex but will be pulled off more easily on men. Most women will probably layer it with something sweeter. I did a combo with Roses Vanille and my scent announced my presence. It was potent 😁.

Pierre Montale's credentials are questionable for me are far as Oud perfumes are concerned. However, even if not all to my taste, the artistry and quality is always apparent. I'm amazed at how diverse the fragrance collection is with what is quite a limited range of notes he seems to play with the accords of things like Oud, rose and leather within themselves creating a wealth of new bases for fragrances and somehow retaining a signature. Opening with... surprise, surprise lime. Yes I read the notes on this page before I tried it and was disappointed not to find lime there. So imagine my joy when it was there... Harmony in the universe had been restored! It's not a citrus more like those chocolate (probably patchouli) lime sweets you can get. (which I actually don't care for!) And call me mad but the opening has a malty whisky vibe to it to me just for a moment. Aoud lime features yet another take on Oud coupled with Rose and patchouli. When the rose starts out it's a rose lovers dream but frankly too much for me. The patchouli in this creates an earthy dirty vibe which is carried into the dry down when the rose settles right back it's pure Oud and filthy patchouli, very dark indeed. There's a spiceness to it which keeps it sharp despite all that wood and mud. Insane longevity and projection as with every Montale I've ever sampled.

For anyone (including myself) who find Black Aoud to be amazing but can't stand its huge rose note on the skin, Aoud Lime could be a valid alternative. To the typical Montale's opening has been added strident lime note that while lurking in the back it remarkably declares its presence working as an ultrasonic whisper. The strong medicinal aroma juxtaposed to the lime's acidic freshness is pretty weird indeed but absolutely compelling to my nose. After an hour or so, the rose note makes its appearance but it's not overwhelming or as prominent as it is in Black Aoud. It's instead well blended with patchouli and oud to create an amazing accord that is going to last for quite a while. In the meantime, in the very background, I still get the fascinating juxtaposition of lime but in this phase it sounds more like someone who's playing a thirteenth on the main accord in another room. Amazing. Surely not an easy wear for its intensity and weirdness, but still a great composition. Well Done. Rating: 7/10

Well, I don't smell lime. But I do smell something abrasive, I guess because of the combination of saffron and agarwood. After a couple of minutes becomes softer, maintaining a green vibe but not in a light and fresh way, more like raw, wild as if you mix grass, leaves, dirt and wet woods. The name of this fragrance may be misleading (in my opinion), Orange Aoud has citrus notes, but Aoud Lime don't. This is a spicy/floral scent. The rose keeps the fiery notes subdued. The most enjoyable part of this perfume is the dry down. BITE MY TONGUE UPDATE: Guess what. Today I tried Aoud Lime at work and at least three people ask me what I was wearing. the strange thing is that at first I don't think they thought it was a perfume, it was more like a "something smells really good in here". So, besides my initial review I have to say that Aoud Lime is working for me.

Despite the few similarities with Black Aoud (which everyone compares to it), this fragrance has its own individuality, starting from the opening: you can really smell some citrus note (like the name of the fragrance advices), but it's more lemony rather than limey. Once the fragrance begins to dry down, the lemon/lime falls off a bit, blending with the floral notes, the sandalwood and a hint of amber, turning the sweetness up. The oud is not as impactful as others Montale's fragrances, it's more subtle and hidden. It takes some time to develop its power. It lasts on my skin for about 10-12 hours, with a strong sillage that lose its power in few hours. Overall it's a nice fragrance, not my personal favourite nor an easy dress, but I'll surely wear it many times while enjoying it. 8/10

This is very bright lime, but with an oudy richness. One of my favorite fragrances of rose and lime has been discontinued, so I'm experimenting layering this one with Rose Night with Aoud Lime to recreate (with 2 to 1 RN to AL) and loving the result so far. The fragrance is projecting and identifiable, but not too synthetic, as was my fear. Very glad I didn't give up on Montale after trying some others that were not for me (like Roses Musk).

Very sensual fragrance, however I get a kinda "church" vibe, dont know, maybe its just me but I feel like walking through a temple's rose garden, after rain. More like a divine feeling. Believe me, anywhere you go they will notice you and in a good way! Definetely not for everybody, very unique and maybe not as much of a crowd pleaser, but we are perfume-lovers here...soo who cares about the "crowd"? :)

if you want a very sharp oud, strong, smell amazing. the rose is lesser than black oud. if you want more oud choose this; if you want more roses better black oud. the best oud ever smelled !!!! Not super performance. 9/10

It's very potent, sharp, in your face, medicinal oud with bitter zesty rose x lime. P.s. I bought the 20ml travel version of Aoud Lime because it had votes as being similar to Soir d'orient by Sisley. Yes, it is similar in a way, however Aoud Lime has a cold and metallic vibe to it. It is not as sexy & opulent as Soir d'orient. I just sprayed it and this is my first impression, however, I have a feeling this scent will grow on me & I will eventually edit this review later on. Edit: Nope, too harsh for me after all. Lung burning sharp. The staying power is from a different planet though! Gifted it to my dad & he loves it.

I like the aoud here. For now (I have to sample ALL Montale's) this is the closest one to Black Aoud for his strengh and sillage. I prefer Black Aoud, but this is great fresh-strong-woody with a touch of lime, I am surprised... 4,5/5

PREJUDICE: Surely not all Montales can be misses for me? 1st IMPRESSION. If there is lime, it's a dry, powdered lime? Interesting, nice, fresh, a bit warm, quite a bit detergent-like. It's saffron that gives it the warm flour feel. Rose rises after the opening. Oud is dry, not the warm animalic type. This is a very good smelling detergent lol. 2nd WEAR. I get the floury saffron opening now. Then oud and rose. Lime not really. 3rd WEAR: So when he said Aoud Lime, what he meant to say was "Aoud Saffron Rose". It's very ok, I'll wear out my tester and that's it. 4th WEAR: Rose, saffron and light oud. Herbal, light scent for a Montale. I smell no lime and it's not even listed. VERDICT: Really Pierre Montale just throws a dart at a word board while naming these.

I find it too sharp and too masculine for my taste. I find this wearable only for a man in, dunno which occasions. Can't imagine how this would work on man's skin. I can definetely feel the sharp aoud and lime, for me there is no patchouli and rose present. There is no powdery iris or warm sandalwood. Only incensy, smoky aoud and sharp, fresh lime. Not for me. Update: Surprise, even if I dislike it I still feel allured by it, so I won't scrub it off. It's very addictive.

I was suprised to look at the notes and see no lime. The "lime" is present in the opening and then fades to an overally synthetic oud and rose. I can see how some people may jibe with it, maybe this is a good night-out fragrance, but overall I just get more of a household cleaner vibe.

it is not montale aoud lime it is "montale aoud rose",from beginning till the end the rose is dominant note of the perfume.A little bit aoud is with it.its quality cannot be criticized but I think this one is more suitable for my woman friends not for me.

This is by far the WORST perfume i have ever smelled. to sweet, to sharp. Smells like toilet cleaning!

I got a small complimentary sample and it's a big "no" for me. Too sharp and too loud. I get a little bit of the Black Aoud comparison but it's not as potent. If I had not not just taken a shower, I would take one to scrub this off of me.

I really tried to give this one a chance. I have a 2ml smaple and have worn it 4 times. Unfortunatley I cant enjoy it, it smells like moth balls to me. Sorry Montale this fragrance is my first dislike from your house.

I agree with Emgamo. It reminds me of toilet cleaner. I have smelled a few really bad perfumes but this is worst one. I can ́t even wash it off my skin. Horrible.

Aoud Lime from Montale Luxury Niche French Perfumery House is a Unisex 'Oud Rose Woody Spicy perfume. Aoud Lime was released in 2005; and the nose responsible for this fragrance is Pierre Montale. Very tasty perfume! With quality and a great cost benefit, in addition to powerful creations, easy to please, and without challenges make Montale an excellent option for the transition to Niche Perfumery. A classic 'Oud & Rose somewhat linear. The great positive point is that in Oud Lime clearly the woody portion overlaps the rose. Unlike Black Aoud where the rose is the empowered one of the time. Aoud Lime is very potent, as are all Montale I've met, but he's not an invasive atomic bomb like Black Aoud. I have no idea why 'Lime' in the name has nothing of lime, lemon or any other citrus reference in this perfume. Aoud Lime is easy to please and will earn compliments. Saffron also appears but not in its most usual leathery facet in perfumery, here it comes in the form of a condiment even though it only gives a slight spice in this composition. A dusty amber amber accord with the iris bring a slight softness to the fragrance. As I said, the woody part overlaps over the rose; With the leaves of woody and earthy character of the patchouli and the 'oud as the protagonist, a very well built medicinal resinous woody synthetic 'oud without difficulties or challenge.

This is the BEST MONTALE ever! I worry that future formulations will eventually diminish its PERFECT qualities! Is it better than Black Aoud? YES,and by far... I have tested both, side by side, in many instances, during two years, (cold/warm weather, rain or shine, day or night, sad or happy...), and... Aoud Lime has gained, by far, because of its more splendid aura and dry down than Black Aoud, which happens to be a bit sweet, hence the blackness needed to dampen/balance some of the rose jam essence note, causing some olfactory attritions to its dry down(i.e. that sophisticated dry down note of the Aoud Lime is unfortunately not present in the Black Aoud!) Besides, Aoud Lime has a UNIQUE tempo of development that renders its projection so versatile, adapting to weather changes, humidity, and entourage: it is like having a smart olfactory device that knows when to emanate! Seriously... Ora, that does not mean that Black Aoud is not up to its fame; this is just a bottom line comparison to those who would like a definite answer to commit to only one: either the Lime, or the Black Aoud? I have opted for the Lime Aoud after having tried, in thirty years, most of the rose-ouud based perfumes, within the $100 per once range.

Aoud Lime is an overwhelmingly strong scent. It’s loud, obnoxious, deep, resinous, rose-y and smoky like incense. Do not spray this directly on you and don’t use more than one spritz. Spray it into the air and walk through it. That’s it. I sprayed three pumps into one of our bedrooms and closed the door. After several hours, the room smelled amazing. The air smelled as if it had been purified, and the room had a woody and somewhat masculine scent that was light and pleasant. On the wrists, I recommend layering this with a cherry/berry/fruity perfume oil. I have one that’s a roll-on so I apply it first and then try to spray just a teeny bit of Aoud Lime. It’s a great combination. (the perfume oil blend I used has blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, vanilla, bourbon and coffee bean.)

Montale Aoud Lime is not a citrus aoud combination as the name might suggest but a pretty much smoother version of Black Aoud. Apart from the top notes, the heart and base are identical to my nose. Rose, aoud, patchouli is mostly what I get. Same fantastic projection and longevity, 1 spray to the chest and you are good to go for the rest of the day! If you live in a warm country, do not spray more or you will irritate everybody around you in a 10 foot radius, projects like a charging horde of Mongols up people's noses in the heat! 1 spray gives you a beautiful composition of roses and oud which envelopes you in a cloud all day. I prefer this to Black Aoud. 8.5/10

I definitely like this one. Im working my way sampling through some Montales. It opens with lime and oud together. Even though there is no lime it must be from everything combined. As it slowly starts to dry down 2.5 hours in I get the rose, oud, and sandalwood combined with some other notes that I couldn't identify yet. Its nice to me in the drydown because it goes from a the Lime smell to softly detecting each individual note back to Lime and on and on and on. Good projection for 6 hours then it turns into a skin scent on me and goes away completely at about 8 hours.

I's a scent with a typical (medicinic) Montale oud. The combination with green notes is well done. There is indeed an authentic impression of smelling lime (especially at the beginning), although there is no lime in the scent pyramide. That makes the fragrance interesting. Compared to Black Aoud, the rose is here much brighter. Some will find the rose scent synthetic. In this point, it's up to the person to make its own opinion. Thats why it's highly recommended to make a test before purchase.

Montale is very hit or miss for me.I don't get warm spicy. I don't get rose, sandalwood, saffron or amber. I get a slap in your face, ice pick to the brain lime which thankfully doesn't last long. Citrus usually doesn't. Then I'm left with oud, just oud, just the Montale oud. I thought maybe I should give it the usual two try. But why bother. I thought maybe it would make a good room spray. But why bother at all. Just a not very good Montale oud.

Due to lack of better words I have to say that this is very interesting. Quite unusual and a little sharp, but somehow on me it's a touch too masculine and I do like to wear slightly masculine fragrances sometimes too, but in this case I think that I would prefer it on a man. Possibly I would even find this a bit unnerving (in a very good way!) on a man! :-D The later stages - when the strong notes have mellowed and softened are gorgeous!

An acidic slap on the face and a bandaid to make it all better afterwards. Very strong opening that soon morphs into a nice if a bit one dimensional leathery scent. The later stage is quite subdued and uninteresting. All I get is a screeching chemical amber. I wish they had calibrated projection better in this one. It starts very loud and evolves in a whisper. Should you wear a little or a lot?

This is a show stopping aoud, guaranteed to get you noticed. The heavy oudh note is complimented well by the pungent 'lime', giving this a fresh invigorating scent. I loved my sample of Aoud Lime but it's not a fragrance I would wear often because it's so powerful. If I do invest in a bottle, I'll keep this for special occasions.

There is something about the drydown of this fragrance that stuns me like no other perfume I've worn. However, if applied too heavily (as I did on my first trial) it becomes cloying, almost sickening. From a distance, it is sublime. I am led to believe that using a small amount results in a more satisfying wear. Will report back.

this one is one of the most luxurious fragrance of montale collection,when i wear it,i receive a lot of compliments.it ́s intense and so elegant and very very long lasting,the sillage is out of this world,one of the best perfumes of the world with sure.

I'm having a hard time telling Aoud Lime and Black Aoud apart. They both have the strong, dark aoud power and a floral note as well. I don't really smell lime in the dry down at all.

People from India will know this smell its very identical to some brands of Masala Incense sticks from Southern India often burned in household temples.

very formal, very oriental, yet so classy, suitable for winter only in formal occasions like wedding or Eid (of course I am talking about GCC region)
