Aoud Night

Aoud Night by Montale Reviewed from 100ml bottle Summary: Dark, earthy, and elemental with touches of sweetness and a slightly animalic weight. As others have noted, Aoud Night bears a striking similarity to Ermenegildo Zegna’s immortal Indonesian Oud but is “the same” for only a short interval after the drydown begins. When sprayed, Aoud Night comes on with the sweetness anchoring the heavy oud in comparison to how EZIO rides a wave of cool moisture. The Zegna has a far more “polished” air about it than the Montale; however, Aoud Night is just as enjoyable for its rawer, heavier, drier aspects. It still must be said, though, that Aoud Night really is astonishingly similar to Indonesian Oud and is more like Montale’s take on its central concept than an empty knock-off. Technical: the performance is strong, even by the standards set by the more well-known Montale scents. Two sprays go on very heavily and project the sweeter, wetter notes first and the warmer, spicier ones shortly into the drying phase. Spices and the comforting idea of burning wood come through for the duration of its long life. The rose and oud combination strikes the same ideal balance as with Indonesian Oud when on the skin and leaves mostly the woody oud in clothing. Longevity is stellar with full whiffs still coming eight hours into wearing it. Colors evoked: black, gold, dark brown, all with a smooth, matte surface (compare this with the polished evenness and deluxe-feeling balance of the Zegna). Musical accompaniment: Budos Band - “Golden Dunes,” Down - “His Majesty The Desert,” Nile - “To Dream Of Ur” Timing: the warmth and seriousness would dictate that this is a winter scent although the heat of warmer months brings out the spiciness and funk of the animalic elements. Nighttimes or dark, cloudy days only; this is not a sunny day fragrance.

Classic oud and rose fragrance. Very pleasant. Enjoy the dry down after 1 hour better than the initial fragrance. It is a little sharp and "cleaning agent" at first but quickly softens to excellence. The rose is pleasant but not over powering. Can smell with almost every breathe. An Egyptian friend sat down next to me today and said I smelled like a rich sultan with a solid gold watch (sorry, just a white guy with an Apple watch, oh well)! Thanks to ojain101438 for idea of spraying clothes in a box. Update 9/20: The more I wear this the more I detect a slight civet note but it is subtle and inoffensive, if you can believe that. It just gives the oud a little more bite and keeps you interested long enough to take another sniff. Overall really enjoyable to wear this fragrance and continue smelling it throughout the day.

Beautiful Fall/Winter Fragrance. Super Powerful Strong, and Beast Mode Fragrance. Starts with good citrusy vibe that gives naturality to the fragrance, after that it has a very harsh and synthetic Rose/Oud Combo. After certain time the Rose/Oud gets very good and Still and in that time the Leather and the Sandalwood comes out. Very good Fragrance it gives so much Santal Royal Vibes. Sillage and Projection are very Powerful and Strong. Everybody will notice you even if the room is very big. If you like Rose/Oud Combo with some Citruses and Musk that fragrance is for you. (Test before purchasing). Lasting: 10/10 (10+ Hours) Sillage: 11/10 (Spreaded in every room that you enter) Projection: 10/10 (5-7 meters around you everybody will notice you) Total: 10/10 Fragrance.

What can I say, people will notice you definitely and this fragrance leaves a nice trail behind you, wear it today for the first time at work and the compliments never stopped, I am glad I bought this fragrance very solid buy, good price too. Longevity 5/5 Sillage 5/5 Notino has it on clearance for only 56£ per 100ml. Review edited: is been now 24 hours since I have spray it and I still can sniff it on my hand after multiple washes and shower, this fragrance is just eternal.

Was using it continuously for 4 years. Absolutely loved it, pretty bold, heavy woody-rose with some pinch of citrus, veeerry tasty and interesting. You can feel some new layers through the time, basically was staying no my clothes around 1-2 days, with strongly decreasing silage. So basically it smells like montale, everybody knows that its montale, but the question is always which one, the answer is - my beloved one:)

Oud night est un parfum Oud, boisé, aromatisé, des notes de cuir, de roses marocaine aussi qui représente ce cher pays, a vrai dire c'est pas parce-que son nom est oud night qu'on doit le porter que la nuit, je trouve qu'il peut aussi se porter le jour, il est aussi fruité, ambré, musqué... il ressemble pas mal aux autre Montale Bref. c'est un bon parfum pour les amoureux d'oud Bonne vapo.

Wow this is very nice. I don’t usually like Oud fragrances but there’s no real Oud in here . It’s very well blended and it’s mass appealing. I can’t see anyone not liking this one. I bought a small 30ml only coz I have hundreds of bottles is perfume in my collection and at some point it needs to stop or I’ll be renting an apartment just for my perfumes to live in.

This is a super strong scent. Almost identical to Indonesian Oud by Ermenegildo Zegna. I currently have each on the back of my hands and I can't tell the difference. I would say the opnening on Montale Aoud Night is a little more pleasant and not as harsh with the dry down possible being better on Indonesian Oud by Ermenegildo Zegna. I would say 99% identical.

When I bought the first one, the sales man splashed a generous amount of tester on my jacket, I couldn't smell anything after a while, in my way back home, I noticed people are looking at me in the mall & street. Thanks to that beautiful beast, i only apply one splash inside the jacket and it is enough for a long night out.

I wasn't the biggest fan of this when I first got it, but it grows on me more each wear. Not the most mass appealing fragrance. I get mainly the Oud, Rose, and Patchouli. I catch Wiffs of it all day when I wear it very oil heavy and mom said I was filling the house up 2 house after putting it out solid 8.5 or 9/10 for me

This is a bomb!!! So strong and powerfull...more masculine in my opinion, but as a woman, i wear it very confident cause i like this scent particulary! I am a unisex perfumes lover, and this one ia so good! Longevity and sillage +12h. If you don't wanna smell mainstream, check this out!!

I was actually very surprised in regards of this perfume. First I have bought a tester to try it and the performance was so good I had to buy the bottle. Would recommend it.

This goes under the category of “ don’t try this at home “ Careful with the sprayer, you might choke yourself and people around you if you overspray it.

Extremely similar to aoud line from mancera. 90 percent close. I think i like this more than aoud line. Both are beast mode performers. 8.5/10.

Just got my first bottle, Smells really good

This is a beautiful creation by Montale, the dry down is really lovely. Rose, musk, and sandalwood are the main players. I love it. Those roses are not heavy or cloying and not too dusty, just correctly balanced by everything else. I really love it. How did I not know about this before. This is one of the very few oud-based fragrances that can be worn in moderate summer temperatures, especially in the evening when the sun is down and humidity isn't too high. The lighter notes allow for that kind of versatility. P.S. I tried Aoud Line from Mancera, this is better. This is heavier on florals while the Mancera is heavier on the sharp woods.

#96 in my "Tour de Fragrance" of 250 scents in 250 days. A blind buy I'm happy with, but I think it's definitely not for everyone. Beastly opening, but after a relatively long dry down it's the first oud scent I've liked. Definitely one of the longest lasting scents I've encountered. So much oil here you could polish the furniture with it. Slightly floral once it dries down, with a noticeable Irish peat moss scent. I don't find this feminine at all, not even unisex. My first Montale scent and I think it's underrated here, but I can see how this is a love or hate fragrance. I'm encouraged to give some of their other scents a chance.

In my opinion this is a easy going "oud" kind of scent. Not the safest. But it's mass pleasing. The opening is a bit harsh. Got that very synthetic fruity and medicinal smell. The rose shines after the harshness of the opening became more subtle. The oud used in this fragrance I believe is just a accord. Not a real oud oil. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's overall a well crafted fragrance with great performance. Great for formal occasions in my opinion. This fragrance have been sitting on my shelf for 10 months. I think it deserves more love and hype. Personal rating is 8/10

At first didnt enjoy it very much, but upon second wearing i let it sit for about half an hour and it opened up into this peppery and slightly fruity oud. Very spicy and manly. And the longer it sits on skin the more beautiful it becomes. Crazy longevity and moderate projection. I think id love to own a 50ml bottle of this. Can be pulled off for a daily office wear, but may be works better for an elegant evening out.

Typical Montale DNA, not my usual style, oud is prominent obviously and yet I like it! I feel hot when I wear it, like a red lip fur jacket and dancing till you drop it is really sweet in the dry-down, lasts so long edit: I would never get a full bottle, maybe 5ml decant but its not necessary in my collection and life

Rich. Bold. Lush. Extremely oily and dense. This is not masculine to me in any form. 2 sprays is more than enough. Rose and fruit with some leather backing and oud from start to finish. Just waiting for it to end at the moment as it's way to feminine for me and I choked myself and the entire house with 5 sprays.

It smells good and I like it. The longevity is outstanding. Only a handful of fragrances last this long on me. I think the quality is very good. I probably won't be buying a full bottle, though. Regarding masc vs fem, I'd say it's definitely masculine. But I think some women would feel comfortable wearing it.

probably the best parfum and smell that i have in my possession it ́s identical to discontinued zegna indonesian oud, which is very noble smell with arabian desert vibe of saffron/oud ... better than black aoud, black to black from mancera and the other stuffs

Oud & rose mix with a medicinal background, like rose or strawberry syrup. The rose is the predominant note followed by oud. While unisex, it leans more toward the feminine side. A decent smell but not my cup of tea.

Not a bad fragrance, on my skin - "endure" the beginning, because. starts with sour oud, becomes more elegant in half an hour: rose and sandalwood, and later you fall asleep in a cozy amber cocoon

Very similar to Alexandria II and III by Xerjoff, but a little bit synthetic.

It’s not the best or the worst, something synthetic about it though, this is as Arabic as it can get, but there are far better options out there, nothing stands out to me about it. This a abaya type perfume. Unisex for sure, not as long lasting.

Holy cannoli, this is strong! Heavy, slaps you in the face, dark, dirty and earthy. This is surely a fine selection for a deep, dense oud enthusiast. Anyone who claims this is feminine must not know any women. LOL

Maybe I am not going to be a fan of aoud. I keep trying but...... There is an ointment - ozonol - which was a sort of cure-all of my mothers, when we were children. Aoud Night smells just like it. I pick up a bit of camphor, definitely medicinal. Then I get the sourness that I am encountering with the aouds that I have sampled so far. The whole idea of aoud and its history, intrigues me. I really want to enjoy it. Cost stops me from trying the more costly aouds. Maybe that is where I am going wrong. Still, my mantra comes back to me, perfume should be a pleasure, not a challenge.

Another Rose/Oud combo, this is slighty sweet, very floral and almost certainly feminine. I would imagine this scent would appeal to a middle age or older women. I think this scent is primarily comprised of patchouli and geranium. Geranium is used in perfumery to create a rose type accord. Patchouli on the other hand can be manipulated in conjunction with other aroma chemicals to create a woods or in this case Oud accord. This like other Montale fragrances fades to a skin scent very quickly.

Rose, patchouli, musk and amber steal the show and leave very little space to any other notes of this perfume let alone any other perfumes in the room where you stand. Straightforward bomb love letter to old-school scent lovers, that will give a headache not only to you, before the day is over. Aiming at vintage lovers, think twice about applying it if you are not.

at first reminds me of Atelier Oud Saphir or Molton Brown Oudh Accord but as dries down not as pretty, complex, warm or rich; has a sour smell not like real oudh but more herbal and a little floral then minty

More Than Words from Wish.. I’m not a crazy Xerjoff fan, but it makes no sense to say this is stronger than the beloved beast MTW. You clearly have not worn it. Aoud Night has no punch & so little oud.

A sourer oud, resin spreading out and inviting with a faint unpleasantness. But nothing exaggerated.

I strongly disagree with this; there is something wrong with the scent, or perhaps the top, heart, and base notes are all wrong. Because if that is the case, then the perfumer has been very sparing with the other scent notes. This perfume is not a masterpiece, as we have come to expect from the Montale brand. It is a cheap, headache-inducing, unremarkable, monotonously bad scent. It has no development, no dry-down, it is a perfume made in a vicious circle. There would be nothing wrong with it if you could smell the good scent when you spray it and if it dominated throughout. The perfume's actual notes contain 5 scents: top notes: fruity tones, middle notes: fruity tones, light rose and amber. Base notes: minimal musk and just a hint of sandalwood, but really just a hint. Just enough to make it truly feminine. Guaiac wood, agarwood, patchouli, lemon, and bergamot are not present in the perfume. Anyone who says that this perfume is the best OUD-scented perfume for them, I have to disappoint them by saying that they have not yet smelled Agarwood (OUD), and it does not contain any smoky, real wood scent, even if it is only a synthetic scent, such as Mancera Red Tobacco or Layton Parfüms de Marly, which have an incredibly good harmony in the development of their notes. Mancera has a slightly medicinal scent when sprayed, but it settles nicely. Layton has a slight apple pie scent, but with a very delicate woody scent. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, and I apologize for my seemingly unpleasant and malicious comments, but I'm just writing the truth, and unfortunately, the truth hurts the most. Don't be fooled by the perfume if you've never smelled it before and are thinking of buying it based on these comments. You will be seriously disappointed. There is nothing masculine about it, as the notes reveal that it is feminine. Amber smells overly sweet, so it is feminine, but it is minimally noticeable, so it is acceptable as a masculine scent. The fruity notes are also feminine; there is no such ingredient in a normal men's fragrance, so it's good that there is no banana or peach in it. This is not unisex, but feminine.

Montale's one of the 2014 offers. Beside the Melody, this one was my second purchase from Montale. I sprayed on my arm and I told myself "what the heck I did". More my nose get experienced with leather, more I could stand the opening. Fragrance opens up with very Animalic leather that will give you feeling of poop. It is dark, strong and deep. If you can stand the leather at the opening for 30 minutes, you will be thankful the scent for following hours. When the leather settles down and becomes smooth, rose and oud become prominent. I have smelt many different Montale Rose-Oud combo fragrances and yes, this one has the same Dna but much smoother. I can say that this is the best Rose Montale made. Leather and Oud work perfect with Rose and makes it very enjoyable. But there is another note that makes it also smooth and it stays there until the fragrance dies, it is Sandalwood. It is there and gives a creamy feeling to rose but not so much, it is just enough to make the rose likeable with medicinal Oud. Of course, you classic Patchouli is there and Amber, but they are very less amounts here. This fragrance is very oily on the skin when you spray it, just as other Montales. Very high concentration. Fragrance lasted around 10 hours and projected about 5 hours. If you are tired of Rose-Oud combo of the Montale, this is a slightly different view to that combo with animalic leather. I love this one more than many Montales.

Very loud and powerful but pleasant rose + oud combo in the opening. It’s got that signature Montale dense gourmand sweetness DNA. You get an intense, dark, smoky, but still very much manageable oud, being balanced out by the sweetness from rose and fruits. Imagine a piece of oud laying on top of a leather mat drizzled with honey and rose pedals. There’s definitely interesting contrast between the sweet notes and the dark, oud + leather combo. Patchouli gives it just a little bit of earthiness. As it dries down, the sweetness in Aoud Night fade and more woody nuances develop; the oud becomes a lot more apparent when no longer covered by a layer of sweetness, showing its sharper and drier side; and it gives off a more powdery vibe. Smells very middle eastern in the dry down. Fairly unisex, but reminds me a bit more of a mature man type of vibe. Performance is beast mode, you can easily see how oily this juice is, excellent projection and longevity. I can still faintly smell the oud the next day after showering. Caution! This is a beast.. i like strong perfumes which leave a trail but i underestimated the power of this and went for three sprays, two on the skin and one on my shirt. That wasn't a good idea.. the scent became suffocating and so heavy i almost felt nauseous. When seating in the car my friend had to open the window because was feeling suffocated too..this perfume takes a lot of space with its sillage so be careful and spray less.I also seem to have an allergic reaction to this perfume when i spray it on my skin. From that time lesson is learnt: one spray on the clothes is good for 12 hours and sometimes i spray this on my sweaters and put them back in the closet,when i take them out,even after long time the scent is there,making them smell good and cozy. I didn't get to smell Ermenegildo Zegna indonesian oud that a lot of you are mentioning in the review but oud night smells to me like a medicinal oud in the beginning and then settles to a clean oud and rose scent with a great projection. No evolution, the scent doesn't play, move or evolve into something unexpected,this is probably the trademark of Montale s fragrance...at least that's how i know montale now.

A well-blended creamy Ylang Ylang fragrance with a woody, rose/pachouli sweetness opening that briefly fades to unfold a white floral basenote of Tiare flower, gardenia, and tuberose . A variation of Montale's Aoud Damascus but with more gender ambiguity. The florals are not noticeable until the dry down appears. If you like Ylang Ylang this is for you. It doesn't smell feminine or masculine if that worries you. Unisex. Poor sillage and projection,very weak for a Montale perfume.Night time fragrance. Ylang Ylang+white florals.

This fragrance smell exactly like Aleppo soap ( olive and bay ). I didn't really like it, for me I dont get that much oud in it, so it dont worth the price. I will try to give him another chance since I smelled it in the store. Nice fragrance tho compared to other brands. EDIT 2020 : So it seems like i didn't know how oud ( oil ) smelled like then. Aleppo soap does smell like oud... I was confused at the time because i only knew wooden oud chips and they smell very differently from the oil.

For a tiny fraction of the price, you can get Velvet Oud by Rihanah. They are the same. Unfortunately neither of them is great. Strong mulchy, peaty oud but not in a very nice way, it smells like something from the garden center. There isn't a lot of dimension here, just that unusual oud and some leather. It doesn't have the complexity of a better quality oud, and after some time the rose does become apparent in the mix, but it's nothing special if you ask me.
