Arabians Tonka

As a male, I feel like a "bad bitch" wearing this (in the best way possible). This is a delicious (yet not gourmand) winter delight that is intoxicating and sexy to my nose. Throughout my fragrance journey, there's been a handful of scents like Layton or Angel's Share that just absolutely wowed me and made me want to go feral upon first sniff (they retain some of this effect to this day, I always have to stop by Sephora and spray some Angel's Share on me when I go to the mall). Arabian's Tonka was one I had my eye on for a while so when I was in Sephora and saw they started carrying Montale I rushed to find their Arabian's Tonka tester, sure enough this was one of those magical fragrances that mesmerized me from first smell. Honestly, it feels difficult to try to describe this fragrance to me. The first thing you'll notice about Arabian's Tonka is its rich, powerful, magnetic sweetness. This is mostly due to the Tonka and Sugar Cane notes doing a beautiful dance that forms one of the most addictive vanilla accords I have ever smelt. The second most characteristic accord of Arabian's Tonka to my nose is the gorgeous jammy rose that wraps the sweet base, giving it this rosy air that I think my brain perceives as a hint of femininity which makes it so very addictive to me (I'm not even a big rose fan, iris notes also do this to me sometimes). I get the same feeling smelling 1 Million Elixir, which also has a prominent rose note. I'm also not a big oud fan, more often than not, oud notes often turn me away from fragrances with rare exceptions such as this one or Oud for Greatness. I can't really pick out the oud so I'm presuming it's a style of it I'm not well acquainted with yet, but I do believe the oud works together with the oakmoss to give Arabian's Tonka a dark, alluring edge that keeps it from being too bright and feminine to my nose. Saffron is a note my nose isn't quite trained enough to describe well here, I can feel its presence here, and while it feels quite present, it gives Arabian's Tonka a warmth and slight spice. The saffron here is not particularly metallic or "dentist officey" like BR450. The bergamot honestly gets blasted to the background to my nose, its not particularly discernible and instead contributes to giving Arabian's Tonka a more interesting aroma by working with the musk to round off the warmth and sweetness I think. As for performance, its certainly beast mode, but not nuclear to an unwearable degree as some legends would have it. You will smell this on your skin until you shower and possibly still a little bit after. Clothes will probably take a few washes to completely remove tbh. But the projection can be managed with careful spray modulation. Best use scenario would probably be a night on the town imo, people WILL smell you in the club, and you will leave intoxicating scent trails walking around outside. Would be good for date night too, but once again careful on the sprays. Cool/Cold weather ONLY. What I really love about Arabian's Tonka and how you can tell its potent is the very thick oil coat it'll leave behind on whatever skin you spray, considering that, I would also be mindful of spraying clothing in the first place due to possible stains. As of writing this, I would say this is indeed probably the strongest out of the 60+ bottles I own, the only other things I've tried that can almost give this a run for its money are JPG and Sauvage Elixir. All in all, I got this at a good price from discounters and don't regret the purchase at all, Arabian's Tonka is so addictive I would have to give up a spot of testing skin like I do for Angel's Share everytime I go to the mall if I didn't buy my bottle. Its a beautiful winter fragrance that is a personal 10/10 even with an oud note. Its JUST the right amount of unisex to me, like its genuinely just an alluring aroma that could smell sexy to anybody. If you typically enjoy more masculine profiles this probably won't be for you. This also seems to be quite the polarizing fragrance in general, so I would highly recommend getting a decant or finding a tester at a local store rather than blind buy. I personally love my bottle of Arabian's Tonka. Living in an area with an almost year round hot climate, I sadly can't reach for this often, but boy am I enjoying myself the entire time when I do.

Overall thoughts and scent profile: Really nice scent profile, I'm mostly detecting the sugarcane, amber, tonka, rose (very prominently) and a bit of saffron and a hint of oud, I was expecting it to smell at least slightly animalic because of the oud note, but it just smell alluring and sweet, very luxurious too, this is the type of scent you'd expect Arabian nobility to wear. Layers really nicely with dior homme intense if you want it to have more depth and masculinity. Presentation and bottle quality: Very premium presentation, though I've seen cheaper fragrances with higher quality presentation Performance: This is literally the definition of NUCLEAR projection and longevity, one or 2 sprays MAX unless you want to choke out everyone around you, if you spray this in the summer people several meters away will be choking. This will induce olfactory fatigue in you, and even then you'll still be smelling it. It easily lasts for 24 hours on skin while projecting loudly for at least 10, it's difficult to even scrub it off your skin. On fabrics it is even more powerful, I sprayed one spray on my jacket, and at first I could barely smell it (due to olfactory fatigue), but when I walked past the same jacket 36 hours later I could literally smell it from like half a meter away. Absolutely nuclear. 100% the most powerful fragrance I've ever tried, and it will be my future benchmark benchmark for fragrance performance, I doubt anyone is going to release something more powerful anytime in the near future. Blind buy factor: I would not blind buy this, just get a decant first to try it out. While most people seem to like the scent profile, some people might find it too sweet, and considering the nuclear projection and longevity, it could be *too* powerful for some people, if you look at the negative reviews here on fragrantica you'll find that the majority of them are simply complaining that it's too strong. Final rating: 8.5/10

Arabians Tonka is one of those rare fragrances that truly deserves the word “nuclear.” From the very first spray, it fills the air with an enormous presence that is impossible to ignore. But what makes it special is that behind all that power, there is also character, depth, and a surprisingly addictive elegance. To me, this fragrance smells like confidence turned into scent. The combination of dark rose, oud, saffron, amber, and creamy tonka creates something incredibly seductive and luxurious. It feels rich, warm, slightly mysterious, and almost hypnotic in the air. The sweetness here is bold, but never childish. The tonka bean gives the fragrance a smooth, addictive texture while the oud and smoky nuances keep it dark and sophisticated. There is a metallic, spicy warmth in the background that makes the scent feel unique and instantly recognizable. Performance is simply monstrous. A few sprays are more than enough. The projection, longevity, and trail are on another level compared to most modern fragrances. This is not a scent for people who want to stay unnoticed. Arabians Tonka enters the room before you do and stays long after you leave. What I love most about it is its signature quality. In a market full of safe and generic releases, Arabians Tonka has personality. It feels daring, dramatic, and unforgettable. Definitely not for everyone — but for the right person, it can easily become a signature scent. An ultra-attractive fragrance with massive presence and a truly unique identity.

this is one of my most complimented fragrances that i own. it is very loud and will fill up a room and LINGER, so be careful not to overspray, but it has been nothing but compliments from family, strangers, and the odd day that i'd wear it when it's cold at the office. one of my biggest concerns when i was buying it was the oud. i'm just now dabbling into oud scents, and this is probably one of the most accessible oud scents out there. it isn't a real stanky oud, rather it's a gentle earthiness that gives a nice contrast to the overall sweetness of the scent. speaking of sweetness, imo it's not mega overbearing on the sweet side. it's absolutely sweet, don't get me wrong, but it's not the kind of sweet that you get tired of smelling. it's not like the "stick your nose in a tub of cake icing" sweetness, but like a deliberate, cozy, and inviting sweetness that you'd like to smell on someone when you're giving someone a hug. i do NOT recommend wearing this on anything warmer than a 60°F (15°C) day as this perfume is OBNOXIOUS in warm weather. not an ideal gym scent, unless you're trying to clear the area around you to free up a machine. this scent announces your arrival before people register you're in the room, and the average person (at least from my experience) is likely to enjoy it! it's fantastic for winter, cold fall and spring days, or if you hate people in the summertime. 9/10 scent!

6 month review: When I first tested this (from a decant) I absolutely hated it... sorta. I wasn't entirely convinced so I put the sample away. Forward 6 months, I blind bought a Mancera Roses Vanille and I completely fell in love with it and it was reminiscent of something I had smelt before until my brain connected AT with RV and yeah. It's a twist of AT with more sugar and texture and more of that sweet rose turkish delight. It's not a blind buy but spending time with this will be rewarding. I will be wearing this is the searing heat just to prove to myself I will enjoy it just as I enjoy RV. Is it redundant to own both... yeah. Do I care? No. I will absolutely crave a granulated rose flavored sugar oud and other days I will desire a beeswax and sugar oud concoction with roses on the side (it's just as unisex as this, despite the notes). However beast mode they want to make you believe this perfume is, it is not. While it does cling to your skin, it is not a projection monster of any sort. And I wish it had more oomph, like an Ex Nihilo or Red Tobacco or something like Eternal Wood by Mancera that has that yummy sillage. Not a love at first sniff, but I'm committed now. And I want more (a)oud.

This fragrance is just.. wow. So friggin good man. If you love sweet, syrupy fragrances with lots of aura this is for you. The opening is all saffron for me as the bergamot is not extremely prominent. It then smoothly transitions to a wonderful oud and rose combo. The rose in nice, super smooth and the oud isn't the star of the show but it adds a good backbone to the fragrance. The sugary sweetness and tonka sparkles all throughout the scent as it evolves. This fragrance is alluring. It breeds confidence and is shrouded in mystery. I could really only see myself wearing this at night and to any social event, with the right level of confidence. If you're familiar with Lattafa's Ameer Al Oudh Intense, this fragrance smells just like it if you removed that fragrance's woodiness, added some rose and just made it more refined. I'm surprised it's not listed in the "This reminds me of" list. There's not much to be said about the performance of this fragrance that hasn't already been said but I will say the sillage is insane. Definitely for younger guys mostly, I can't see any unc rocking this. Overall 11/10. Not blind buy safe unless you know what you're getting into.

Now that I've finally got a decant of this, I can finally say that my Karus Secret Musk by Khadlaj is the better version of this. Its less metallic and more fuzzy tonka. The arabian tonka makes me have to cough when I smell it which is kinda weird. As it dries down it's also getting MORE metallic. I usually buy a clone first then if I really like it I'll buy the real thing. I'm glad I just got a decant of this one. Also as I'm reading more reviews I see they've reformulated and it's not as strong and I'd have to agree that this isn't super strong. Definitely not as strong as it's clone. That super harsh undertone that's making me cough is making me think that I really need to pass along my decant because I don't think I can handle it. I'm legit about to scrub this because my nose hairs feel friggin singed I stg. I'm honestly a bit sad this was such a flop, but I guess it's a good thing I'm gonna save money now. I'll stick to my clone and enjoy my fuzzy sweet tonka fumes that cost me like $40 or less. I also get this really nice chocolate base from the Khadlaj that I am not getting from this. Bummer.

Arabians Tonka is what I have been searching for in a fragrance. It is powerful, unapologetic, and impossible to ignore. The first spray has a sharp medicinal syrup quality that can feel almost overwhelming, but within minutes it transforms into the true heart of the scent. The dry down reveals rich tonka, deep sweetness, and a dark sugary warmth that becomes incredibly addictive. This fragrance leans masculine to my nose, but I do not mind that at all. In fact, the darker edge is what makes it so captivating and different from typical sweet perfumes. It has enormous projection and can easily become offensive if oversprayed, but somehow that intensity is part of the appeal. The scent lingers for hours on skin, clothing, and in the air, and I find myself looking forward to catching little traces of it throughout the entire day. Montale created something bold, dramatic, and strangely comforting at the same time. This is not a safe fragrance, but for the right person it is unforgettable.

Arabians Tonka completely lives up to its reputation. This is one of the strongest fragrances I own, with enormous projection and outstanding longevity. It’s definitely not a shy perfume. What surprised me the most, though, is how addictive it is. I keep wanting to smell it again and again. There’s something about the rich blend of saffron, warm woods, amber, and sweet tonka that makes it incredibly captivating without feeling flat or one-dimensional. At one point I even considered layering it with something fresh so I could wear it during the summer, but then I realized it would probably be too much. This fragrance deserves cool weather, where it can shine without overwhelming everyone around you. If you enjoy bold perfumes that leave a memorable trail, this is a masterpiece. I honestly can’t wait for winter to arrive so I can wear it as much as possible.

Just sprayed it on the inside of my wrist (a decant), smells delicious. I get Vanilla, Tonka bean and Rose (and sweetness of course) mainly. It kind of reminds me of Shaghaf Oud by Swiss Arabian, but lighter and airier. To me, one could easily wear this during the night at summertime, as long as it's not humid (then it'd be very cloying). I also get a whiff of tobacco as well, even though it's not listed in the notes (it doesn't make it smell anything like Initio Side Effect or anything like that) Can't say anything about its longevity, but after the initial spray, I'm pleasantly surprised, I'd definitely consider getting a full bottle of this, or one of its clones in the future. When I smelt this on a tester in store, it was SOOO good, came off smooth, LITERALLY FILLED up my ENTIRE room with a SINGLE TESTER STRIP FOR WEEKS (was genuinely insane) and there was much more emphasis on the tonka, rose and sugar combination (which I fell in love with). Fast forward to today, I am praying that my bottle magically transforms into the one I smelt at the boutique, for some reason, it comes off extremely oud heavy (which isn't bad by any means, but not as appealing). It is a March 2025 batch, could anyone let me know if their bottle has changed drastically over the years/months? The performance on my current bottle is genuinely around 2-3 hours (on skin and paper).

Arabians Tonka is a beautifully crafted and well blended fragrance, absolutely stunning for date night but works well for the office too. Performance is off the charts with solid 14-16hrs on skin with great projection and sillage for the 1st 10hrs, the scent profile is unique and extremely likeable. Montale is the wiser, matured and refined parent to the Mancera line of fragrances which exude a youthful, hipster playfulness, and if you're a fan of Mancera fragrances then you'll absolutely love Montale fragrances. Don't ever blind buy any fragrance but definitely test out what the house of Montale have on offer there's some smashing bangers here.

at first I thought that it smelled similar to intense cafe, but after many wears I could not disagree more. I reach for this wayy more than intense cafe and this bottle is almost empty compared to ~half of the cafe one left, purchased years earlier. It's less in your face than intense cafe, does not have that bright rose and coffee opening. Has a very montale dna dry-down, which could be where the similarities between the two arise. Other than that though, this one I feel is way safer and more casual than intense cafe. Imo worth having both if you like this scent profile, arabians tonka for casual wear and intense cafe for evenings out.

Powerhouse of a fragrance. One of the only ouds I find tolerable. It’s so luxurious, smooth and comforting. It’s a sort of woody vanilla-like scent with an Arab twist and that signature Montale DNA. I can imagine it gets so many compliments because it definitely lingers on your skin for hours and clothing for days. However, as with most Montale fragrances, I can see this becoming quite overwhelming or polarising if over sprayed. It would be easy to get sick of this after a while. Best used on occasion.

Not really my cup of tea, I blind buy 95% of my fragrances and it’s even underrating this if I say it’s top 5 compliment getters. I don’t think most people *LOOOOVE* the fragrance, but it is so powerful that it almost makes people have something to say to you. Night out fragrance, gave me the most compliments in a night ever, 12. Lacks a little sweetness to my nose, but it’s an entry level oud + rose combo that just works and performs like a mf. 6 sprays and I might be taking it too far.

The smell is not exaggerated, and never is for Montale perfumes. This truly is art. However, the ''beast-mode'' projection and eternal longevity of this perfume has fallen off. No, this is not caused by being nose-blind. This is because of newer batches like mine, (which I bought a week ago), have became weaker in projection and longevity. Don't get me wrong, it still projects very good, but for me paying $300, I should've had the beast mode that we've all heard that AT had.

Absolutely phenomenal scent by montale. BUT BE WARNED- this scent is not for the weak hearted. this may end up choking you out if you spray one too many times. starts of strange may even smell like vomit or feces, but let it sit and the scent transforms into a sugar, rose and oud bomb. Gotten mad compliments from it , women and men. lasts to end of the time. you wear this when you want to make sure everybody and their mom, grandma, cat want to smell you.

Definitely an interesting choice, and unisex in a good way (best of both worlds I would say). The tester I got reminds me of an amber body butter I had as a teenager - it's soft and a bit creamy, not screaming but intriguing and making me self-confident. For some reason I like it for summer, though it's not a fresh or cooling scent. The dry-down shows a little rose, reminds me of sponge cakes with fruit jelly mixed with Japanese black bean cookies.

I can’t get enough of this fragrance. It smells like sugared rose petals in a sweet rose syrup. It is very smooth. The tonka is noticeable just after spraying but then settles down to support the jammy rose. I love BULGARIAN ROSE- it’s so yummy. I enjoy smelling this in the air when I move. Also, this takes a lot of time to dry into my skin, so this may be a perfume & or EDP with a higher concentration of oil. I find this to be uni/fem leaning.

Arabians Tonka is honestly an amazing fragrance. It smells like comfort in a bottle — so warm, cozy, and addictive. To me, it’s like burnt sugar mixed with saffron and tonka bean. It’s perfect for occasions where you want to be noticed and make a strong presence, because the performance and sillage are absolutely nuclear. That said, I’d be careful spraying this in close spaces or for intimate occasions, as it can easily become overwhelming.

Very strong performer that comes off skin, this is NOT masculine but unisex. Women and Men can both wear this, women for the rose, men for the oud but compliments each other. Very unique scent that is addicting, personally I like it to be slightly more masculine but it’s very good and is a very good fragrance in its own right and will think making this my special occasion in Fall/Winter. 9.5/10 (great performance and scent)

I don't believe in describing more. Arabian tonka by Montale is best ever alchemy i came across. This is the beast of the beasts in terms of projection and longevity. Even Mancera red tobacco which is also my best loved perfume fades away earlier infront of it. Montale Arabian tonka impressed me so much that i purchased 3 in my stock. Hope to see such more "magical mass pleasing fragrance beast" from the house of Montale.

Arabians Tonka is a true standout. It’s a sweet, powerful fragrance with impressive longevity and strong sillage. The tonka bean base is rich and smooth, giving the scent a cozy depth. The saffron is present for a good while. It is noticeable but never too much. I reach for this perfume any time I want to make a bold statement. Not blind buy safe. Everyone's nose / skin is different. Your experience may differ.

I had this fragrance for about 2 months and it’s become my favorite fragrance ever. The least you should do is try it. It’s similar to Intense Cafe but that’s only because both have that “milky rose” note. Arabians Tonka is a lot darker and the tonka note is very prominent throughout the scent. I’m also getting a hazelnut vibe in the dry down. I’m surprised a lot more reviewers haven’t talked about this scent.

Arabians Tonka is one of the longest lasting fragrances I’ve worn. Overall, the fragrance has a nice, warm amber and Tonka base fragrance with a lot of agar wood mid notes. I primarily smell bergamot on the top notes. This is an extremely long lasting fragrance. I sprayed two sprays and then put on my coat. My coat still smells a week later. This is definitely worth the price of you prefer an amber/tonka base.

I bought this today and what i can say is it is a - Loud saffron and sweet amber from the first spray - Has a thick tonka, dark rose, resinous oud underneath -A good entry-level oud perfume - Heavy, dense - Beast performance—4-8 sprays max - Not a safe blind buy: sharp saffron, strong sweetness, can overwhelm some people I love it, though, as I'm big on oud, saffron, and tonka, and this hits perfectly

A soft, exotic tonka evoking the Middle-eastern scents we all love, but on a much milder note. There is no overpowering oud to stun your senses, the agarwood is a synthetic facsimile of oud without punching you in the face. It is a masterful blend of exotic notes like amber, tonka, and saffron, with more mellow accompaniments like musk. A soft and gentle, yet intriguing feminine scent.

If you're wondering about longevity... I sprayed a few sprays on my shirt at the mall and I had to drive home later that day. So my seatbelt STILL smells of Arabians tonka (it got transfered from my shirt to the seatbelt) and it's been a week!!! Scent profile is just amazing and so captivating. I don't know why I like it so much, but it smells luxurious on me. Great perfumery!

Probably my favourite scent ever created, this is just a masterpiece of fragrances. It smells sooo delicious and addicting, you just cannot get enough of it. And almost everybody LOVES it. If you’re into perfumes you absolutely need this, unless you hate very sweet and heavy scents that is. It’s a very strong scent so there is no need to overspray it at all. 10/10.

So hear me out, the only place where you should wear this fragrance is out partying. It's really a 'have you seen me?' type fragrance but it does what it's intended to do. Smells like a very sugary, jammy rose syrup. Not very natural, but it's addictive and it's sillage is sexy. I love it but would not wear this anywhere else than for partying, really.

Room filling scent, this one is not playing around. This will let people know you have arrived, in a middle eastern way. If you like Oud and Tonka this is a great buy. If you want something that smells and performs the same(ish) on a budget then Riffs Momento is your baby (95%), I have both and I love them both equally.

i sprayed this on my left arm twice at 11 am, the scent vanished by 4 am. thats 16 hours for you. im a smoker and i could still smell this beauty on me the entire time. the smell lingered in my car until the next day so that was a pleasant surprise too. it smells of Oud, Rose and honey to me and i love it

This is so good. Mine is so smooth and good quality. The performance seems to be good from the start. I am sure it will even get better. Lovely fragrance, smells like diet sugar. Sweet but not candy sweet, more like diet coke sweet. Good scent for evenings.

This is a compliment getter. I've had my bottle since 2024, and I have a few drops left. I must say that back in 2024, it didn't get as many compliments as it does now. Also, it's very oily, lasts on my skin till I wash it off. Sillage is massive, 10/10.

As I am finishing my second bottle, I can definetly say this perfume will be on my collection for a loooonnnggg time. As a women I find wearing nuclear-unisex fragrances empowering. The spicy-sweet drydown makes me want to kiss myself on the mirror haha!

Isn’t it mad that people call it unoriginal just because so many perfumes smell like it now? 😆 It’s actually the other way around, A.T. came out 7 years ago. Montale was doing Middle Eastern-style fragrances before they became such a huge trend.

I love this frangrance its the perfect one if you want to stand out and make people instantly think of you when they smell it as its unique. Perfect for a date night or clubbing especially during winter months but could work in a summer night.

What a banger! Projects like a beast and lasts all day. When my husband wears it I can smell it in the wardrobe for hours after he's gone. It's not for the feint of heart and it will get you noticed!

Blind bought this due to great reviews. Smells a lot like Merchant of Venice Venigia 21 but with a chocolate note. Great fragrance but feels a little redundant since I own Venigia 21 already.

arabians tonka is not a beast anymore. . it is lovely , rose fragrance with oud , caramel , like a marshnallow to me . . but i think it’s reformulated. .after 2-3 hours it ‘s a skin scent

Amazing fragrance, sweet blend of rose and tonka. Super long lasting, sprayed a tester on my wrist and was able to smell it the next day (or I was tweaking).

One of the best things I've ever smelt, perfect mix of sweetness, oud and floral. The opening is amazingly sweet and it only gets better on the drydown.
