Aromatic Lime

This is a nice chypre fragrance with a bitter lime note. It smells mainly of a very citric lime wood rather than the fruit itself, and the scent is unmistakeably of lime but also with hints of bitter orange and saffron. It smells more like the rind or lime zest rather than the juicy flesh itself. The lime note also surprisingly persists throughout the duration of the fragrance and is not simply a top note. It also is unisex unlike the other two lime colognes I listed which are firmly in masculine territory, being a citric chypre (since the drydown basically smells of greenery). Sillage is moderate leaning strong in this fragrance. It has great longevity also, with 4 hours of strong projection and many more hours of light projection after that. Unfortunately however, it leans slightly feminine to my nose, so my favourite lime colognes remain Taylor of Old Bond Street No. 74 Victorian Limes, and Armani's Acqua di Gio. 4/5

This is great. It was recommended to me in a niche perfumery store this weekend after me explaining what I like (Prada Infusion de Iris, Chanel 19 poudre, Chloe Nomade). I had not researched this scent at all but came on here today because I was curious what other fragrance lovers though about it and I am reading references to both the Chanel and the Nomade here! I think that's amazing and well done by the perfumery store advisor! I love how this is a more masculine leaning scent but not flighty or aquatic/ozonic, also not boozy or tobacco like. It develops beautifully on my skin and gets to a really sophisticated powdery-fresh lime soap scent. As a woman, this makes me feel kick ass strong and posh at the same time.

Starts like an 80's hairspray and evolves into Eau du Soir. Sour patchouli at its best/worst. I blind bought it as my most expensive blind buy so far, but this is not a safe buy at all. It really worths its price for the impressive Montale's longevity which would make it a perfect office scent, if only it was not so extreme. I am sure this could be a signature for the right person -not even a matter of skin chemistry, feels like this could overpower each and every chemistry. A dark green bomb, sexy and dry at the same time. Again, this is the most 80's smelling thing I've ever smelled, and 80's are not something you tend to forget even if you had experienced them only as an infant. I like Chopin, we're big in Japan.

A galbanum bomb, a blunt interpretation of Chanel No.19 with the volume turned up. Yes it has a masculine quality about it, much like No.19. But like No.19, it really suits a woman better.

Another masterpiece from Montale.

For the first two hours of wearing Aromatic Lime, I was ready to declare undying love. The combination of spice and myrrh reminded me of a beautiful potpourri and some now-classic fragrance a sophisticated friend of my mother's used to wear. (Something along the lines of the old Rive Gauche, perhaps? Or Aromatics Elixir? It smelled familiar but I can't quite pin it down.) Aromatic Lime has Montale's excellent persistence and sillage, but two hours in, it turns to a fresh, soapy scent and finally, the lime presents itself. Nice, but a bit masculine for me at this stage, and it moves my opinion from Love to Like.

I got a 4ml sample of this and oh boy... I have some thoughts :D This is the first fragrance for Montale I put to the test. The opening is a citrus explosion with lots of manliness. I would categorize the fragrance as predominantly male, but could be unisex as well. I can sense the lime more than anything, but after it sits on my skin it gets more herbally and woody, yet still fresh. The silage is just obnoxiously strong :D to the point that I tried to wash it off 2 times and I can still intensively smell it. So if you are looking for relatively simple composition with lots of silage and longevity, as well as quite realistic notes of lime - that is the one for you. It's not a sweet perfume by any means, it's very fresh, quite sharp and even a bit spicy to my nice, which I assume comes from the vetiver, the patchouli and the galbanum. So yeah, this is what I can say. It starts more citrus like and turn into more herbal/woody fragrance, while still not loosing the lime note. It's not my cup of tea and could be a bit too overpowering, but I can see it's well made and blended. I would indeed suggest it as a male fragrance, cos I don't sense lots of femininity out of it. But that's just my opinion. I also think it's a bit overpriced. Other perfume that reminds me of is Nomade actually, which has this typical male cologne opening in the beginning and then turn into a citrus perfume. So if you like Nomade, chances are you will like this one as well, as more mature and strong one that the Nomade. But neither is what I actually like in fragrances :D (that being said I am a gourmand lover).

I’m going to echo most here. It’s a cheaper synthetic poorer version of Jacques Fath Green Water - that is supplied in the green frosted glass bottle (prior to the current formulation). After two hours though and completely unlike Green Water and similarly Colonia Club this changes with the lime moving to the back ground and the florals (may as well be the usual Montale Rose/Carnation base) take over. Classic Montale in that is poor performance though better than most. For some reason only Fougeres Marine has performance expected of the price point. Only because it saves me using my vintage Green Water and Acqua Di Parma Colonia Club have I decided to keep it other wise I’d be gifting it like all the others. I’d you like a simple predominant Lime scent if it is at the right price this might be for you...

This one convinced me that I don't like unisex fragrances. I felt some masculine vibe from it that I couldn't ignore and it bothered me. As if I wore one of my husband's colognes. On the positive side, it is really aromatic, fresh and summery. Also it is very long lasting...

I wanted to love this scent so badly, but I don't think it likes my chemistry! I do not get any lime, more of a dark evergreen (fir) type of note + woods and a little bitter citrus. It leans more to the masculine end of the spectrum on me. Very outdoorsy!

This could be a decent scent if it had better ingredients. It's overly synthetic, burns a little my nose probably from low quality chemicals. Horrible.

Never sprayed this thing but it's the most vile scent I have smelled on a relative (at least he's honest and told me the name). Lime dishwashing liquid scent on steroids with massive sillage.

Don't expect a searing lime note here, which is something I've never liked. And I agree with the review that suggested there is a pine-like quality to it, though with the irritating aspect of real pine omitted, thankfully. In fact, it may be the kind of composition those who say they seek a pine-oriented scent really want. Unlike the reviewer who said there is a celery-like quality at some point, I found that it was almost metallic, though it never got that far and it certainly didn't bother me. Perhaps that is mostly due to the saffron. I didn't get much patchouli nor myrrh. While I can imagine many people saying they could have bought a big bottle of Pino Silvestre instead (for less than $20), let's face facts here - if you are researching this scent, then you either are willing to pay the price or you are just curious. If you read reviews and then get angry about prices, it's time to consider a different hobby! UPDATE: Regular wearing and was able to really study it. At first it doesn't smell especially natural, and the notes just don't have the kind of clarity I'm seeking in a scent with this kind of price tag. It's a bit dry and the muskiness isn't outrageous but there's not much else going on other than the heavily blended quality of whatever is in here (which includes a fougere-like quality, which is what I think another reviewer was referring to when he/she said it opened with an aftershave type of thing). I would go for something like Blenheim Bouquet rather than this, and if you want strong limes in a fairly complex composition, vintage Spiced Limes is what I'd recommend. This one, though, could be a good office scent for someone who wants a musky, dry/powdery, and rather tame lime with mild woods/vetiver (not much sweetness here). With the far drydown (when things are much weaker), you get something interesting, sort of like Rive Gauche Pour Homme, except that there's no anise but instead you get green notes, though in both cases it is woody/powdery with a hint of patchouli, and it's dry. I might like this stage the most, actually, but again, the price just seems to high for this sort of scent. However, with what reformulations over the last year or so seem to be resulting, in this kind of scent may be viewed as a bargain very soon!

Seriously reminded me of sewage at first. Bold musky citrus, atop a muddle of heady myrrh, and seemingly spoiled botanical greens (with a citric acid tinge off the top of them). Upon closer inspection, you can pick-up that this comes from a mix of sour patchouli, galbanum, vetiver, and bitter orange. It's very musky and strongly a vintage aroma by nature—or one might say Arabic by nature? Now, the obvious joke here would go something like, "Some men like it swanky." But this is more like having your face forcefully pushed into, and smeared, in a disgusting pie. Another suggestively clever joke from Montale, but I would say it's a very tasteless joke in this case. Utterly lacking charm, and totally unacceptable as a major release from the brand. The deceptive reviews only make all the more unbearable. Misery just loves company.

Like Fougeres Marine, this one is more for day and for people who prefer marines or summer stuff. We can't go wrong with Montale creations. Sometimes we don't like his work (I don't like Chocolate Greedy) but in general I think his house is one of the best. This Aromatic Lime start like most of his stuff; very intense. The saffron comes here to settle down the bitter orange and rounded all the scent. I can't detect the patchouli. I think this is another pretty good one. For now here is my note; edited: after a re-sample, I must admit that I LOVE IT! (from 8 to 9) 9/10

If you could go out and buy some Pino Silvestre instead, then I for one would like to hear about it. That's part of the point of reading reviews, in fact, to try to avoid wasting money. Bigsly, thanks for the heads up about PS. I continue to enjoy my hobby.

The beginning is an after-shave-type scent with some citrus note in the background, then it becomes refreshing as an ice tee with mint leaves and a hint of sugar with the after shave note in the background. More suitable for a man.

Longevity: excellent, 10 hours+. Projection: skin scent. Scent profile: nice dry and aromatic line top note. Then morphs into a soft and semi-sweet Drydown. For me: too Soft, too semi-sweet. Missing that bite.. Mark.

Patchouli and sour notes. Not nice. Reminds me of Giorgio for men by Giorgio Beverly Hills rather than Givenchy Gentleman which is a million times better.
