Attar

Montale ATTAR is such a compellingly beautiful perfume to my nose, and yet it features a small number of focal notes: sandalwood, oud, and rose. How can it be so gorgeous? Because the sandalwood, the oud, and the rose used are top notch. This is an excellent example of the quality ingredients strain of haute niche perfumery. Instead of attaching a bunch of bells and whistles and curlicues, Pierre--or reasonable facsimile--simply presents these notes in all of their glory. I really love this Montale creation, the rose dominates the perfume but is deepened by the sandalwood and the measured dose of oud. (I agree with another reviewer that sometimes oud-rich perfumes are a bit much...) There is a dark, mysterious feeling to this creation, with an almost animalic quality close to ambergris in the background, it seems to me. There is also a graininess to the texture which I find quite appealing. It is as though the rose petals were shredded and blended to form an oud-sandalwood-amalgam. So, yes, this creation seems fairly linear to my nose. But that's fine with me, because it smells so good that I don't want it to change. I love a few of the Montale rose perfumes, but this one is at the top of my wishlist!

Ok first, the notes are completely wrong. From Montale's offial website the notes are: Top Notes: Saffron, Ylang-Ylang, Lemon, Leather Heart Notes: Rose. Geranium, Jasmine Base Notes: Sandalwood, Patchouli, Amber, White Musk. No oud whatsoever. Attat is, suprisingly, really fresh and uplifting. On the first spray I got this rose-adjecent smell that is neither powdery nor vintage. Rose water-like, but there's a darkness to it, which I assume is either the leather or the base note already peeking through. The drydown is a lot woodier, heavier, and darker. I'm guessing its the combinatioj of the sandalwood and vetiver; you can definitely still smell the rose and other lighter notes. Funnily enough, very late drydown (6-8 hours after the first spray) reminds me a bit about Oud Ispahan (2018 ver not the old one) for some reason. It's not as funky and unbearably offensive as Oud Ispahan (2018) but it does reminds me of it just a bit. All in all, I am pleasantly suprised. It's both wearable and the texture is not too cloying — good for all season and weather IMO. 8.5/10

I want it. I want it. I want it. 😁 Seriously, this is such a magnificent, opulent, dark, mysterious, elegant ROSE 🌹😍👀. I had a sample long time ago, and still can't get it out of my head. I agree, it is nothing for beginners. It takes time to mature and understand such a composition. It is a Middle - Eastern fragrance, full of wonderful woods and spices. I wore it officially at my grandma's funeral, because I had to have something what gave me strength mentally. And it did. I am not saying that this is a perfume for so dramatic situations, not at all. If I had had Chanel No. 5 at that time, I would have worn that. Another very elegant, decent, long lasting, appropriate scent for a strong lady - you get the idea. I can imagine to wear it anytime I need to feel self-confident and professional. That boss-lady scent. But I can also see that for someone it could be an evening scent, easily. This is not your scent for the work, or leisure time, or first dates. But if you go to a ball with your partner, why not 👸❤️👌

First impression in the very opening is a very clean, very pure rose scent. Over the course of several hours, it slowly morphs into a woody rose, which to me is clearly sandalwood based. I guess I see where some people are getting oud, but I dislike strong ouds, and to me this is not one of those. It's a very clean smelling woody scent, and always retains that rosy tinge. A few hours after spraying (4 sprays), I went to visit some relatives. One of them arrived late and as he walked in he asked if I had bought a new perfume. I said yes, can you smell it? He said it fills the room! So I guess that's pretty good longevity and projection! Edit: A few reviews mention a similarity to Aoud Queen Roses. I'm currently wearing Attar on one arm and AQR on the other to compare, and they are very different. Attar is a clean and fresh woody rose, AQR is MUCH more oudy and earthy and medicinal.

Starts out extremely strong with an enormous bouquet of sweet candied, slightly citrusy roses unembellished by much of anything else. They are dark red, Arabian tea roses with all of the nuances typical of that variety, but light on the marzipan. I don’t smell any oud or sandalwood although both may be there, along with some saffron, as an undercurrent boosting the rose scent. There is a great deal of rose sillage; longevity is at least 12 hours. The rose is linear for the first 8 hours of so, after which it slowly recedes to reveal a little bit of the woods, more oud than sandalwood. It seems like there’s also a warm, caramel-like musk in the base. An Arabian rose soliflore is not the most original fragrance ever made, but Montale’s Attar is a beautiful example of that genre. If you like roses, you might love this Attar. I know I do.

After the white-knuckle ride . . . there is the mountain pass wind up. Moonlighting between verdant forest nightfall and chilled florals is the part known as the 24k chain bite moment! Montale Attar includes elements reminiscent of a stark climatic wind up with a medallion biter finish. The sandalwood used seems to authentically represent a daily purifying routine that has been practiced for millenia. Whether the santal is that aged is questionable, lol, but there is something that resonates with a cultural stamp of liveliness. As if opening a shipping container of goods and recognizing the place of origin in a comforting and familiar sense. The rose is really muted and eeking out a softer aquatic petal fresh scent, so not too jammy. It is supreme in a very humble sense and appealing more than anything.

It is simple, but extremely wonderful. The sillage is amazing and staying power is beyond hopes. But that's what you probably except from the house of Montale. It opened with sharp oud, but after the firs 5 seconds the most amazing, oriental rose appeared. It's very sexy, feminine, dark, but still somehow refreshing and mouthwatering. I had tried perfumes with oud before but I thought it's not my thing, but in Attar - it's just simply amazing. The quality, richness of the scent is more than amazing and it's definetely worth every penny. A masterpiece I'm proud to wear on my skin. And definetely worth a full bottle for the most amazing and elegant evenings in your life. A keeper.

This is definitely for those who enjoy rose/oud combos. However, it's not really similar to Aoud Queen Roses. This is darker than AQR IMO because of the sandalwood/oud pairing. The patchouli in AQR is more green than earthy and the hibisbus gives AQR a great floral twist as well as contributes to making it a tad less dark than Attar. On me, this scent is very linear with all notes working in harmony. It can be worn in any season, day or night. Versatility is always a plus. 2/17/23--just dawned on me that Montale Dark Aoud literally Attar minus the rose. Love them both.

I’m just so in love with this fragrance. I mean I’ve been on a rose oud kick lately but this is supersedes them all. Beautiful combo of rose and sandalwood. It gives me a high like none other at least for now. Nuclear in strength. Lasts all day. It’s linear sure, but.... just wow. It does smell incredibly similar to traditional middle eastern scents like Al haramain haneen, which is also a favorite of mine. If you love this type of scent, give attar a try.. you just might be amazed...

Attar more than a perfume is an elixir that comes straight from one of those palaces masterfully described in "The Thousand and One Nights". I imagine it kept in a precious case in the maharaja's room, wrapped in precious silks and sealed by a ruby. Attar is a dream, every spray a mystical journey, an adventure. Every technical description, from my point of view, leaves the time it finds. One of the best Montale made. EC ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Un parfum respectueux, de prestige avec trois simple notes mais qui fait le bonheur de beaucoup de nez en tout cas il est fort de caractère, la rose est bien présente en premier lieu avec les notes oud en deuxième lieu, le parfum change a travers les heurs vers le santal pour s’apaiser tout en douceur... il a une très bonne tenue de plus de 6h est sa projection est très bonne aussi

Smoky, rich and fat rose sitting on the sandalwood pillows. This one will not go unnoticeable, you will be able to smell it from another end of the room and will follow this trace even inside the most busy warehouse. So in case your phone will run out of charge - your other half will certainly find you by the smell of Attar. Strong, rosey, woody, Montalesque and Arabesque.

Attar smells almost the same as Aoud Queen Roses, just without the leather note. Moreover, it is slightly warmer in feel. After half an hour it starts to be a tad powdery, I believe it is the sandalwood, as it has a naturally powdery undertone. Attar is a very simple combination, but it really works. This is certainly one of the best Montales, a real winner.

All i can say is if you are looking for an amazing and inexpensive niche authentic rose and oud combo fragrance and you like sandalwood then here you go! The dry down reminds me of Tam Dao my Diptyque. I do have to say though it does lack originality lol.

I love this so, so much. It's bold and bodacious and beautiful rose oud. I'm not sure if it's worth the full price as it it smells nearly identical to some of my rose oud oils, FWIW. But man, I do not have the ability to carry it off. I wish I did.

All the superlatives ring true. Attar walks in utter lushness. Alas, it walks away all too soon. Unlike a lot of other Montales, longevity eludes it. Within a couple of hours, all I'm left with is a soft, muted memory of a torrid love affair. Sigh.

This fragrance is missing 6 notes on fragrantica. After smelling it i knew there were more notes than what's listed. Either way this is a very good fragrance and has fantastic performance

This one is a beast mode performer for me. Very similar to Black Aoud by the same house. You have to be committed to wearing this as it will last all day, I personally love it!

This smells exactly like dark aoud but with rose. Luckily the rose in this tones down the mintyness i got from dark aoud. Obviously performance is off the charts. 8/10

This is a killer rose!! Sniffing it once and the molecules stay in the nose forever. Very potent, well blended, not stinky at all. Highly recommended!

I'm in love with Rose-Ouds at the moment, and I've always found Montales good value for a hard-working niche fragrance. They have a wide range of options and a cool presentation and yes their offerings always carry their signature synthetic-ness and a lack of refinement but they try their best. I picked up Attar as I saw it online for a reduced price and thought I'd add it to my rose-oud shelf even though I have but use sparingly, Black Aoud. No they are not identical but they are certainly siblings. Siblings that always hang out together, the two brothers you always seem mix the names up when you say hello to them. Attar is a Rose Oud, the rose comes first -with a brighter, punchier rose, more feminine leaning and more buttoned-up and well groomed, the oud lurks in the background and gives the effect that the rose you're smelling carries with it some leafiness, some soil. It's linear and pleasant but pretty a straightforward fragrance that performs like Bon Jovi. Black Aoud is an Oud Rose, the oud here is the headline with the rose rounding the fragrance out, it's brasher darker fragrance that has something of the night about it. If you love Rose ouds then these are both good options, Attar for day, Black Aoud for night. If you only need one, I'd go for Black Aoud, yes a little less versatile but more interesting.

Ok, I need to edit this a little bit. I've now lived with Attar for a couple of days and I think I get it. It is similar to Black Aoud, but not a clone. It's like Black Aoud's soulful, less refined cousin. The rose is punchier, bawdier, juicier. Sillage and longevity are of course nuclear and the whole experience is quite lush. Not for the faint of heart but I think lots of people will love this, if you like being that person everyone can smell in the room. Original review below. I am having a little bit of a hard time discerning what makes this different than Black Aoud. This may be a bit more floral, but honestly I'm not sure. Unfortunately I think this is one of those cases where Montale, in their zeal to create as many fragrances as possible, sort of accidentally duplicated something they already have and put a different name on it. It's good, a typical rosey, oudy Montale, which can be smelled and recognized from a mile away, but I hoped for something different, and not more of the same.

On my skin, since opening it does not smell the way notes describe, I feel more like it was sandalwood and honey, anyone else feel that? After about 15-20 minutes, the oud begins to stand out, so you can see the rose in fragrance, I dont feel exactly the scent of rose, but a touch of subtlety, delicacy and elegance that it brings to the perfume. Another half hour, and sandalwood takes the leading position, giving way to pink, but now brings its aroma as a contribution, and as forming a couple waltzing these two notes alternating in the spotlight as a result rose this be so, I found that it weighed more for a feminine fragrance. The oud is still present, but more shy, just complementing. I thought it was great, wonderful, but for women use. Nothing against floral perfumes, just do not look good on me. longevity and sillage are monstrous.

This is one of the best fragrances for men-soft, supple, woody and simple-It's not too strong, and not so stiff. A woman could definitely wear this too-it smells brilliant on my skin-but it's not a distinctly feminine scent, it's very unisex. I like it more on my boyfriend's skin, and he won't wear anything that smells at all feminine to him. The rose touch makes the primarily sandalwood scent more interesting and lighter, we have yet another "aoud" scent without any bitterness, Montale impresses my senses again. This is easily described as a fragrant masterpiece, simply because it is so balanced...and unpretentious.

Sandalwood with thorns. As others have said, this is straight-up rose in the beginning, but later the flower gets downplayed in favour of the woods. I find it slightly reminiscent of YSL's Rive Gauche, mainly in the way it treats the rose note, but this rose definitely stays more sharp and it keeps more of its acidity which you can smell even over the warmth of sandalwood. Good projection and longevity.

Like kastehelmi said, this is unisex for sure with a bit more on the masculine side. It is without doubt one of the best of all Montale's (in my opinion) with Black Aoud. This one is more versatile than Black Aoud (who is more powerful and for night), this one is either for day, night, cold and hot weather. I slightly prefer Black Aoud because its longevity, but this is, for myself, a MASTERPIECE! 10/10

Very sweet and floral and the flower is of course the rose. I am not sure what, but there is something musky and dusty beneath that rose; I get the same feeling from the use of violet leaf in some perfumes. The rose seems to open and amplify more and more and later I get a powdery aspect added to the sweet rose. 6/10

Smells so so similar to Montale Paris louban 90%. Bit disappointing as I have a bottle of louban and which in my opinion is slightly better... but will be keeping my bottle of attar because I got a good deal on it...overall rating 7.5/10.

I received several Montale samples from LuckyScent and Attar is my favorite. It smells of rose and the sandelwood and aoud makes it more complex and interesting. Smells good from first application, through dry down and for several hours.

It's not bad, just like most other reviews, the rose is quite heavy and old-fashioned, with oud. It is quite simple but also very strong, I would not recommend this to people who don't like middle-eastern fragrances.

Attar is a very authentic rose done in Montale style with a woody/creamy backbone that makes it an interesting experience. There's not much going on, a quite simplistic composition. Great performance.

Almost 1/1 ( flavor and performance L=~ 8h) with Al Rehab Saat Safa. Attar is, of course, a little more refined, but also 10 times more expensive.

A very soapy and old fashioned rose, basically a classic oud rose combo with rose dialed up, way way up. It's a bit too dark and linear for me, but could work in the right mood and under the right circumstances.

I say «NO» to it! Seems like ppl here described totally different perfume. Rose was never there. Too medicinal. Smells like shaving foam. Not sweet ar all. Can’t imagine woman wearing this one. For men only.

Look, we all know Montale’s perfumes have certain qualities that you can either get with or you can’t. They’re strong as hell, they’re unabashedly synthetic, and they share a literal quality that doesn’t really have much to do with poetry or subtlety. Their development pretty much consists of a big whopping blast of chemical gas that modulates into a steady-state single note or simple chord that basically lasts for several days, or until you wash it off—and even then, you might have residual bits hanging around for weeks or even longer. So provided you can live with all that, you might enjoy some of Montale’s offerings, but you really have to be careful, especially if you don’t like woody amber materials like Norlimbal (and I really don’t—that stuff gives me terrible migraines). They can also be just too much—too strong, too simple, too linear. I suppose you could argue that this style of perfumery represents a kind of Brutalist aesthetic and see something admirable, if not exactly beautiful, in their perfumes. I admire some of their compositions the same way I admire Hugh Modernist poured concrete architecture—which, like Montale’s perfumes, is often better in theory than in practice. Montale is at its best and worst on its home turf—traditional accords straight from Middle Eastern perfumery, with roses, oud, incense, and saffron comprising the core of most compositions. (I’m also a big fan of Patchouli Leaves). I intensely dislike Roses Musk, because it’s basically everything that’s wrong with rose materials, and the musk is truly horrific, like laundry detergent on steroids; smelling it feels like staring into the sun while chewing tinfoil—things the human body isn’t supposed to do, and that cause us tremendous discomfort in order to remind us of this. But for every Roses Musk, there’s something like White Aoud—which is really great, and like the best Montale offerings, it doesn’t take itself too seriously or pretend to be anything it’s not; I find it a pleasing juxtaposition of Western and Eastern perfumery tropes, with saffron and oud and rose complimented by a distinctly old-school French violet and powder accord—a “cosmetic” perfume in the tradition of Lipstick Rose and Putain de Palaces: a new kind of classic (if you don’t believe me, consider that even Chanel has Misia now). And then there’s Attar—a straightforward enough name that I think tells you that this perfume represents the most basic of attars—oil distillation of rose materials and nothing else newfangled or strange. (And it must, of necessity, be only a representation, since Montale’s version includes alcohol, but then again, Honey Aoud is also a facsimile of both honey and oud. That isn’t a dealbreaker in itself). Rose attars are supposed to do one thing, do it well, and keep doing it; they’re essentially intense brews of dark roses, simple and strong as black coffee or tea. The variety of character and quality in a cup of coffee is as varied as what you can find in attars: good ones take advantage of and reflect varietal character, environmental elements, growing conditions, regional preference, and something of the person who brought all these together. They can feel light and fluttery or dense as iron. Montale’s Attar’s particular rose is darker than anything possibly found in nature, which makes a virtue of necessity in my eyes. A painstakingly natural rose would include fruity and even balsamic qualities that I enjoy, but sometimes I want a rose as moody, gothic, and unrelenting as real-life black roses appear. I’ve smelled lots of rose perfumes that try to get at that darkness, but very few succeed. Most of the great perfumers choose to honor their high quality rose materials and work within the constraints they impose. Foregoing natural materials, as I think the house of Montale has done, means that the perfumes can start from scratch and make something utterly stylized. Attar works because it’s still completely recognizable as not only a rose perfume but also an excellent approximation of a maximum-density attar, if you could keep double and triple distilling original materials far past the limits imposed by physics—and get favorable, recognizable results in the process. It’s a fantasy, but not a wild fantasy—more like an extrapolation than an imaginative flight from reality. Wearing Montale’s Attar is always an enjoyable experience for me, but I’m always in my wheelhouse with roses, and I enjoy discovering and wearing a pretty wide variety of rose interpretations—hell, I even like Bulgari’s Rose Essentielle when I’m feeling particularly girly. Montale’s Black Aoud has just a touch too much wood in it for me, and I vastly prefer the unadulterated rose upon rose upon more rose I get from Attar. The perfume kicks off with some curious nail polish overtones, but they’re somehow integrated into the slightly chocolatey (as in tannic dark cocoa) rose, and then it slowly modulated into something that gradually resembles a fresh rose with some overtones of black leather (maybe it’s that polish again, but more like boot polish than nail varnish), and finally a bitter rose accord that hearkens back to the great 80s rose perfumes like Ungaro Diva (less the honey and animalics) and Montana’s Parfum de Peau. It sometimes even reminds me a little of Poison for some reason, although it has nothing in common with it, aside from a certain moody quality that you can decide how seriously to take. Somehow this dense, dark rose manages not to be overly grim—most likely because of its obviously artificial composition. It’s just not possible to take anything seriously that’s so divorced from reality. If you’re a hardcore purist about your roses, this might be too stylized for you, and that’s fair; but sometimes a creative interpretation of something beautiful is as interesting as the thing itself. Attar doesn’t smell exactly like real life roses; it smells like someone’s idea of what a certain kind of rose could be, and that’s why it works for me. It’s a rose that seems appropriate nighttime, for tuxedos, black lingerie, good stockings, black leather, good tobacco, red wine, and any other time you need to conjure the attitude that comes with all these badass trappings in the course of an otherwise pedestrian day in your life—which is exactly what perfume does best. Sometimes a rose isn’t just a rose.

ATTAR brings the best of Montale. I almost like ALL Montales; I certainly like ALL Montales' rose-ouds. ironically, in Attar, what smells like an extraordinarily strong rose-oud, isn't oud. here we have doubly distilled sandelwood. it speaks volumes of Montale to not mention oud if it isn't in there. the 'double distillation' works like a concentration, extra maceration- enfleurage. the rose is so exceptional (and yes, as always; this from one who likes Nahema, Gem, Creeds Fleur de Bulgarie, Rouge Hermès, Mizensirs Rose Exaltante, Maître Parfumeur et Gantiers Rose Opulente, Diana Vreelands Outrageously Vibrant) it lasts forever. the sandelwood acts like oud. I preferred it above Black Oud and also took Louban. the Oud Purple Roses and later, Black Oud Intense, completed a petite collection. still ATTAR is exceptional. this WITH the aromachemical blast in yer [sic] face at first spray. it reminds me of Giorgio. yes I always liked all the 'roomclearers'. it gives me an uplifting feeling. but then, I am not the allergogenic type. with ozonic 'aquas', diluted 'sportives', aniline 'eaus' without features whatsoever, they knock on the wrong door with me. I am from 1957; my perfumial education started in the 70s. I have known the perfumes without too much IFRA parfumicides. THEN came the 80s and for me that was heaven. speaking in waves, the Montales formed a separated, muchly venerated wave by me. I learned that the Roja Dove adepts, adepts of Serge Lutens, by Kilian, and other poche nichiste exclusivists, liked to bash Montale. "there was no oud in it; they contained mainly chemicals; roses and ouds and flowers and ambergris, spices and leather were all 'accords'". but NO. on Arabic websites it struck me they ALWAYS sold Montale. Pierre Montale has worked for the Saudi Royal Family. as mentioned so strikingly and humorously below, the perfumes just perform better. and I have some Serge Lutens: Arabie, Tubéreuse Criminelle, Vitriol d'Œillet, un Bois Vanille, à la Nuit. Kilians Liaisons Dangereuses, Cruel Intentions, White Crystal. they are all good. but Lutens Rose, like Kurkdjians, sa Majesté la Rose resp. À la rose were definitely watered down rosewaters to me, to 'behold the delicacy and fragility', no doubt. give me Montale anytime. Montales Intense Café is a revelation à toute Court. the wave post 2000 was of course rose-oud. with as penultimate example Dusitas Oudh Infini. from the strength of the 80s divas and the Montales I immediately appreciated this marquant perfume. viva MONTALE !

the strangest thing with (my favorite Montale perfume) "Attar" is, that it doesn't list "oudh" as one of the ingredients, neither on their website as Fragrantica does it yet here. a "double distilled sandelwood" O.K. but to me it seems the typical Montale-Oudh which BLASTS you in da face when spritzing even the tiniest amount on a wrist. but I am not for tiny and demure. it is also ironic bc there is a whole lot of Montale-bashing going on with "oh he doesn't use real oudh" and "he only uses synthetics" (especially on one "posh" Roja Dove Facebook page dégoutante) and it simply isn't true. Montale uses different oudhs and there are the "medicinal ones" (which I specifically like: Louban, Black Oudh, [Aoudh Purple Roses]) but also more "matte" oudhs (Nepal Aoudh), more linear. i guess when they speak of "oudh accord" there is a probability of "synthetics". as with all (nichist or regular) perfume houses. but again, what irony, with this beautiful rose-[oudh]-sandelwood perfume the note that isn't listed, and of the omittance of which Montale is often accused, here nothing is conceiled while we distinctly smell IT. in ANY case, ATTAR is a beautiful perfume and I love the possibilities Montale offers.

I tried Attar today and I have to say that I am quite disappointed, mainly because it reminds me a lot of Musk to Musk from Montale and personally I don't see why would one perfumer want to produce two "similar" creations... OK, maybe they are not that similar, maybe it's me somehow, :-) I don't know...but I personally feel a lot of resemblance. The composition in those fragrances is supposed to be quite different... (Musk to Musk that is not listed here on Fragrantica at the moment, should hold white musk, nutmeg, aoud, teak wood, precious woods, grey amber, musk). So maybe it's mainly the Aoud that gives the impression of similarity, or maybe it's the combination of Aoud, woods and roses in both, I don't know, but I can certainly smell roses in Musk to Musk too (even though those are not listen in there). Either way - although to me those two are strikingly similar, Musk to Musk is a clear winner simply because it is much softer, more feminine, much more "multifaceted", the Aoud in it is much smoother and it last far, far longer than Attar + I love musk. :-)

Hello, I am Hungarian and during the communist era we were allowed to travel to the eastern countries only. So a lot of people spent the summer in Bulgaria and bought real Bulgarian rose oil back. That rose oil was in a small wooden ( mostly hand carved and hand painted) container and cost quite much. That smelled exactly like this. Exactly like Attar. Unfortunately I do not know what kind of wood they used to put the rose oil into but I got Bulgarian rose oil in a glass container this summer as a gift and that smells really different. This perfume brings back childhood memories when I wanted so much ( so I stole) from that precious Bulgarian rose oil. I cannot give an authentic review because for me Attar is summer ( they went to Bulgaria then and bought rose oil back) , freedom ( you get in summer only) and nature. I like it.

I've just revisited this unrealized gem after a couple of years which laid dormant in my sample box and I am glad that I did. At first I experienced a rose unfamiliar and I thought perhaps it was a bit synthetic if not fairly lovely, I then realized the rose was not alone.. a medicinal slightly band-aidy oudiness was afoot as well, after a few hours I remembered I was wearing it and sniffed my wrist again.. the rose and oud had gone, what was left was leather very reminiscent of the dark black leather in one of my favorites from Montale - aoud cuir d'arabie! I reapplied on another area because I was having a hard time believing it (not that rose/leather is uncommon but simply because I hadn't discovered its presence before) but there it was even in the top.. I cannot un-smell it but I'm quite alright with that.

Nice rose and oud scent. Starts off sharp and medicinal, then dries down to a very pleasant but still sharp rose and oud. Sometimes I put my nose to my hand to smell the scent and it seemed a little weaker than I would have expected. But then at other times I would smell it quite strongly when my hand was further away, like on my desk or on my lap. Unusual effect that reminded me a little of MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 (the effect, not the scent). This scent is reasonably similar to Montale Golden Aoud, so I'll apply each one to the back of a different hand and compare them. Then I'll update this review with my results. From memory at the moment I'd say that Golden Aoud is a little sharper and stronger than Attar, but they are both very nice scents.

My wife's friend who is from India sprayed this on my hand arm recently and it lasted all day. I took my nightly shower before bed and my wife and I could smell it all night into the morning. It actually got to a point of being annoying. Amazing for just one spray! Thus, this stuff must be deadly if applied too much. The scent is very Middle Eastern which is one of my favorite... the perfume type and the wonderful people!. However, Attar Montale is NOT a beginner scent if you are just getting into the all popular Rose-Oud-Floral combo which has long been the scent of Middle Eastern fragheads. Worth sampling for sure! This has convinced me Montale is king when it comes to projection! Sorry Roja Dove and Killian...Montale kicks your arse easily!

A potent rose smells like 95% oud and it's a bit harsher than oud. Even intense cafe(It should be intense rose though) smells like oud even though there is no oud present in the composition. There is even no oud listed in the their website. I'm pretty sure the oud vibe here is the double distilled rose. And again for Mancera and Montale you really have to wait for the drydown to make the synthetic chemicals that preserve the natural chemicals evaporate in your skin to leave a scent of what the perfumer wants you to smell.

Bright sultry dry Rose syrup with some vetiver, and a dusty seemingly natural sandalwood, the oud is soft, to me it's not medicinal and sharp. The scent is overall very lively, energetic and rich at the same time. Quality ingredients, for a great price. Yes there is that typical attar oil concoction captured in this scent, done very well by Montale. There's an attar from an Indian house, Ebrahim Oud it's called Hazrat, that for me, is like a stronger more potent version of this. Overall 7/10

This is a truly GEM, bulgarian rose and sandelwood (twice distillated) and according to montale website NO OUD listed here. Very good quality, good staying powder. Sometimes it smelles a littly musky(in the middle fase, while officially not listed, maybe the combination of wood/rose) It reminds me of ce soir ou jamais in the edp formula. The rose here is not sweet at all, a tiny bit sour but in lovely company with the sandelwood, without oud! Classical fragrance made in a modern way!

Harmony is the key to this fragrance. It's soo simply but great in the same time. I can agree with Cereza. For me this one have sth that other (not all) scents of Montale doesn't have - perfect balance. Longevity is stunning and sillage is also good - it's typical for Montale . I quess that he spend soo many hours to find this marvelous balance between those few components.

Heavy medicinal rose with a good bit of oud. Cold, old-fashioned, with leather tones. If you are not a fan of old-fashioned rose smells definitely do not blind buy this one, it`s quite strong and heavy. Similar to Byredo Rose of no man`s land (that was another name for nurses in WW1, hence the reference to medicinal/hospital/bandages smell)

Dears; this an art in a bottle. Very oriental, arabic style with a good harmony. A subtle sandalwood, streamed by a creamy rose with a touch of agrawood at the background, Good for those who find diffeculty to wear a medicinal agrawood as it's heavy, and dark alone. Another jewel from Montale.

I’m sat here with safran aoud, and attar is literally identical to safran aoud. Hardly any difference.
