Bakhoor

Alright, I normally don't judge other people's opinions of similarity, but how are people comparing this to Encre Noir A L'Extreme?! They're COMPLETELY different to my nose! I don't get vetiver from this scent AT ALL! I get sandalwood in the drydown, but not vetiver. It smells like Bakhoor! Not at all like vetiver to my nose. I personally get a strong, smoky, almost waxy campfire vibe, which to me, is completely different from the warm, foody, coumarin topped Vetiver of Encre Noir. I also get FAR better performance from Bakhoor than I do from Encre Noir A L'Extreme. I'm wearing them both side by side right now, and I just can't find a similarity at all, personally. Maybe if smoky-woody scents aren't your thing you will find them similar, but for me, a person who LOVES smoky-woody scents, I find them completely different. Also, while I do like the original Encre Noir, I don't care much for the vetiver note mixed with coumarin and smoke in A L'Extreme, so Montale Bakhoor is just a much better scent for my personal tastes. Lastly, performance ... I get great performance out of this scent! I wonder if maybe my nose is just more sensitive to the notes than some other people's? Either way, performance for me is a standard Montale Paris affair. Super strong and long lasting, in spite of its light campfire-like scent. My .02 is to try it. You might find it very different from Encre Noir A L'Extreme.

Wow, Bakhoor is a clean and likeable masculine wood scent that provides just the right amount of challenge and strength, whilst performing spectacularly. The smell is fairly linear, beginning with sandalwood, dry agarwood and wood spices, gradually being round out by incense resins, drying down into a clean, woody musk. An impression of the dry combustion of precious wood chips. Enjoyable, and somewhat sanitised compared with actual incense. Bakhoor manages to achieve much woody goodness without smelling too synthetic, and the scent blended nicely in such a way that my nose is not assaulted by woody fixatives. Performance is powerful, which should not surprise given this is a Montale scent. Sillage is amazing, projection very good, and the scent hangs around for many hours. Overall, Bakhoor is linear but substantial, austere but interesting, and wearable - providing a good balance between intensity and cleanliness. If you are seeking a masculine woody scent or an interesting incense perfume, Bakhoor should be on your sampling list.

I cannot stop praising this scent, this is too good. If you like smell of incense and burning woods then you must check this out. I have several Manceras and Montales, but this is one of the best scents from this company. This has been my signature scent for almost 3 months, never get bored of it. This is really addictive. I immediately bought 3 backup bottles. I face no issue in using it in any weather. I worn this even in 40 degree + temperature. Worn it in all setting, received no negative comments. Although there are v few people who appreciate such scents, so as of now i have not received many compliments, but this is fantastic scent to have in your collection, plus its relatively pocket friendly, picked up this bottle for less than 60 pounds.

Awesome, smoke, woods, damp earth, forest floor, but somewhat poor performance. Other vetivers like Montale Red Vetiver have much better performance. Don't spray this on your beard or you won't smell it. Better on skin. 3 hrs, intermittent somewhat infrequent whiffs. Not strong. Oily and will stain your collar with an oil spot, so let it absorb before you put your color up to put tie on, or apply after tie but cover the collar so you don't spray the shirt. UPDATE: Smells very similar to Montale Dark Aoud. They both project better if sprayed on Aveena moisturized skin.

Bakhoor in Arabic means incense (it seems like Arabs are the the target for this fragrance). As the name suggests this is straight up incense scent that has some burning charcoal note as well. This is one of those fragrances that reminds me of the weddings in GCC countries where they use a lot of middle eastern incense. This is perfect for layering with summer or winter fragrances to add the strength of the incense. On its own its not recommended for a blind buy. Bakhoor works for both men and women. Longevity and sillage are great as most offerings from Montale.

It is very linear scent. Initially i get smell of burnt woods and along w it there is something sweet which balances it and makes it gorgeous. I can also detect some leather playing supporting role. Longevity is good easy 10 hours w good projection for the first 2 hours and then it starts sitting close to you, youll still have a nice scent bubble around you. You may receive compliments from some poeple especially those who appreciate darker woody leathery scents. I would give it 8.5 or 9 out of 10.

Lo AMO!!!! Anche se è un profumo teoricamente maschile, sono rimasta estasiata da questa fragranza...! Avete presente il profumo dei legnetti naturali intrisi di incenso? E' un legno però veramente caldo e avvolgente, tipo quando dopo un falò notturno si è già spento il fuoco e sono rimaste solo le braci calde. In effetti per gli arabi "bakhoor" è l'incenso naturale. Veramente una fragranza fantastica, inoltre vi dura dalle tre ore in su tranquillamente!

Bakhoor is a fresh and appealing masculine wood scent with just the right amount of challenge and strength. The aroma is very green and peppery at first, with a honey-like sweetness in the background. Projection and longevity are both above average for me. And as the last few hours pass, it becomes a lighter, greener, and sweeter version of itself, resembling a sandalwood fragrance. This is ideal for all seasons and is completely unisex. One of a kind!

It's strange ... very strange ... do not expect anything with full incense. this is really a smoky incense ... not clerical ... with cooking notes ... really ... I hear from the frankfurter to the popcorn ... maybe it's my impression ... but it is so ... consuming a sample of 2 ml ... I do not feel projection and just a smell of damp leaves burned ... like a fire that struggles to burn ... certainly to be reviewed .maybe is best to buy a Beaufort?

Subtle smoke, beautiful woods, mesmerizing incense. It reminds me of a people-pleasing, office-safe, non-barnyard version of Montale's Cuir de Arabie. Not that there is any leather in this thing, yet the woods and incense do hint at a soft, smokey leather. Very masculine. Perfect Fall or Winter scent, perhaps a bit much for a first date, but on every other fragrance-worthy occasion you can wear this with confidence. Recommended.

I’m f**king hate this type of bottle, but I have to admit that Montale keep producing a high quality scent and juice. This one is so underrated. As it’s name, perfect for person who love oriental scents, especially the sweet mysterious and mystical whiff from burning bakhoor. Ambery woody smoky incense and olibanum with creamy comforting asandalwood. Like other Pierre Montale creations, it’s beastly long lasting nuclear bomb!

One last note - the sandalwood I get from this scent smells VERY realistic, in spite of the ban on natural sandalwood oil. My mom bought a pre-ban bottle of natural sandalwood oil that she found hidden on the back of a shelf at a local oil shop when I was a kid, and the sandalwood here smells very natural, like unsweetened sandalwood.

Light smoke mixed with olibanum, a masterpiece. Different. Unisex with a sweet final. 10/10 Excellent performance.

Definitely a mancera red tobacco like scent

After owning this one for several months, it seems like the content of my bottle has changed quite a bit. What started out as very green and peppery now hints at campfire smoke, live and slightly sharp wood, a tease of oiled leather and a hint of peatiness, like vetiver or a young scotch whiskey. And unlike before, I get just a tease of a honey-like sweetness far in the background. There is a lot going on, and the harmony among its notes rings in eloquent simplicity on the whole. This may sound strange, but for me Bakhoor evokes a distinct olfactory memory: baseball, from the player's point of view. Pine tar soaked lumber, stacked in bat racks; oil seasoned leather gloves along an old wood bench; the fog of sharply piney rosin powder floating in the air; bench coach's secret-not-secret flask of scotch, wafting in his corner of the dugout; uplifting organ music piping in the background; constant drone of the humming crowd; anticipation. I *love* baseball, and I kind of love this, too. But for the life of me, I just struggle to think of scenarios where I would choose to wear it. Projection is above average for me, so you may want to watch the trigger. Longevity is likewise very good -- on the order of 8-10 hours. And as it winds down the last few hours, it becomes a lighter, greener and sweeter version of itself, fitting into more of a sandalwood fragrance mold. Lots to like here. Interesting and artistic to say the least. But for me, it's more evocative of time and place than an actual perfume for wearing. It's one of those bottles that I can't quite get all the way into, but can't quite bring myself to sell off...

This is really nice, I wouldn't say it's what I think of as bakhoor (which leans sweet), or oud (which is deeper and more interesting), but it is lovely and smokey and woody/incense none-the-less. Kind of reminds me of the dry incense of 'Raghba Wood Intense' by Lattafa Perfumes. It also is really similar to the 'Catholic' incense, reminding me of 'Avignon' and the like. I'd say it overall has a really weak projection for an 'incense' fragrance and a very limited longevity. I think you can get something cheaper and longer lasting/more powerful, but maybe you prefer the softer and shorter fragrances... for me, it's not worth it, but it's still nice to sample. 7/10

Soft woodsy incense with sandlewood in the background. projection is rather low. I've had others similar that are better. Received as a sample...not bottle worthy IMO.

My first impression: I've burned better incense. Specifically, I've burned better East Indian incense. Bakhoor is definitely not a blind buy, especially if you think you know your way around incense. Mercifully someone or several someones maybe is selling decants on eBay. And yes, I'm a woman reviewing this; another reviewer wondered if other women love incense perfumes, and yes they do. Bakhoor isn't horrible, and if it's the first incense fragrance you've ever bought, especially after a lifetime of buying conventional fragrances, you're experiencing an entire new world and probably love Bakhoor. I think what is specifically wrong with Bakhoor is the Indian name. You expect Indian incense and you're instead getting American Catholic Church incense. Admittedly I have little experience in Catholic churches anywhere, and I was never an altar boy (or a nun, haha), so I don't know what brand of incense the priests buy. (Do you think some incense manufacturer has a contract with the Vatican to supply incense to all the Catholic Churches, or all in a particular country? Now that's a contract.) But I've been in a fair number of eastern meditation type places over the last 50 years, and Montale didn't put the incense they burn into Bakhoor. So I'll go with the deduction of other reviewers and say it must be Catholic Church incense. Montale's Full Incense is far better, and hangs around longer too. Bakhoor faded about 90 minutes into my first outing with it today, whereas Full Incense lasts into 4-5 hours. I reviewed that too, awhile ago, and couldn't decide what was in that either, but I like the general effect with Full Incense better. And to chime in with a couple of other reviewers, no Bakhoor is nothing at all like Encre Noir A L'Extreme. Encre Noir A L'Extreme is a far superior fragrance and has not much of an incense note at all. Good idea; I think I'll spray on some right now.

Opening is gnarly, stale wood. Does balance out a little with time, but not enough to make this wearable IMO, though it may be accurate.

Darker, more raspy Oud Wood. Like it has a touch of Haltane or something. Similar to Encre Noire Extreme.

misleading name for what happens to be a good sandalwood fragrance.

The name is misleading—this smells nothing like bakhoor. Instead, it’s a pure mastic (lentisque) bomb from start to finish. I tested it on skin, hair, and clothes, but it remained completely one-dimensional, with the same balsamic, and slightly turpentine-like mastic scent throughout. If you love mastic’s piney, herbal vibe, this might be for you. But if you’re expecting the warmth of traditional bakhoor, you’ll be disappointed.

Incense as it is! a good bland of incense, oud and pepper which I personally hear even if not listed, also a huge part plays resin, and closely to the base it becomes more woody, but not like sandalwood, more "itchy" and sharp, smeels really good when it's fall outside and after a little rain mmmm....

I just sense leather and nothing else in it. Too linear and heavy for me.

This is probably the most fragrance with misleading reviews I've ever came across so I'll try my best to save you from blind buying something for the wrong reasons. Another unrealistic name from montale! Bakhoor means incense and there's nothing incensey or smokey about the scent, if you are looking for an incense experience go else where, Full incense from montale will give you a great frank incense experience. Some said honey is there, can't see that. Do I detect frankincense? No Do I detect oud? No Do I detect smoke? No These are the main three notes that come to mind when you hear "bakhoor". So what's there? A sandal wood fragrance that opens semi dark and ends semi sweet, benzoin is used. This is not a dark or warm fragrance at all, it's not ultra Woody either, if you want a good Woody experience from montale consider Aoud Musk. Does it smell like Encre Noir? NO Does it smell like Encre Noir A l'extreme? There's a merit to that and not due to the vetiver note, but to the benzoin and sandalwood in the base. Performance is good enough longevity with minimalistic projection. In terms of profile, personally not something I would wear, I can only see myself giving it away. This is not a bad fragrance, it's just not an incense fragrance, not dark and mysterious, not smokey, or anything its believed to be. A basic characterless woody scent with an average performance. If you're an Arab, this will not replace dukhoon or bakhoor.

Oh I like this! I grew up around burning Arab bakhoor around the house almost every day, rich dark ambers and perfumed wood and I’ve long searched for a scent that replicates that smoky haze that lingers afterwards. This is very very close to what I remember, though with this scent I get a bakhoor that is yet to be lit up over coals. The scent is dry and resinous but very natural too. In the west it would be thought of as traditionally masculine, but for the Arab world this kind of woody oudy scent is very unisex. I do smell similarities to Encre Noir though I haven’t experienced a la extreme to compare. They are not the same however, but there's a similarity in the natural wood aura it leaves on the skin. I think this scent is very underrated and probably overshadowed by the other heavy hitters in the Montale line, but it's really well blended and it doesn't go too sour or synthetic for me. Though overall it’s not very potent I must say given Montale's reputation. For me it lingers mostly as a skin scent for a decent amount of hours, but projection lies down pretty quickly. Maybe I'm partially anosmic to it? But hey I can’t complain too much as I really enjoy the scent itself and it doesn’t disappear entirely.

I blind bought this mainly because i was curious. It does indeed have the same dark and deep vibe of Encre Noire a l'extreme, without the cypress and vetiver notes. So, it's even darker. It is a rich deep woody scent, without any bright top notes. It's like it is only base notes. It doesn't have the synthetic oud DNA that is in other Montale/Mancera perfumes, and i don't smell a simillarity to Dark Aoud. It's quite a muted scent. Feels incomplete, and like it could only be used as a base layer.

The scent of burning bakhoor so well captured, a photorealistic perfume. Sweet, airy, muddy incense, fairly linear throughout. Somewhat fresh and sharp even, can almost imagine bakhoor chips burning over the coals, the hazy fumes slowly rising up the lamp. Very dry and deep, resinous but light, subtle, wish it lasted longer, but anything stronger than this could hamper with the beauty and aura of this scent, very artistic creation, and a rather unique one from the collection of Montale. 7.5/10

As with many Montales the fragrance is deep and strong. This is a whole lotta incense. Unlike its sister Full Incense which vibes very old church Bakhoor is more balanced by the wood giving it a burning incense in a lighter brighter space kind of feel. Even with that I hesitate to say where this would be wearable. It is one of those scents that I'd like for a room vs. person.

Right so I tried this just now and I totally get the encre noir al extreme vibe from this. I don't think it's worth picking up if you already have anything like encre noir in your collection. At less than $30 for the lalique it's a no brainer IMO. Montale's bakhoor dries down to a plain Jane vetiver you've probably smelled a hundred times before.

This is interesting. The opening reminds me very much of King’s Road by Boadicea the Victorious but it does shift. I would call this an approachable eastern incense but it has this humid quality that reminds me of damp autumn leaves. More testing needed. Not sure if I like it or not yet.

Upon inital sampling, Very similar feel to Wonderwood but lacking the Sparkling bergamot and the unique CdG incense note that make that one special and very wearable. Doesnt seem to perform any better than Wonderwood too, which is a shame but I dont like it as much as the former.

A niche quality fragrance at a designer price. The initial smell is heavy leather, but as it dries down the heavy leather fades away and it becomes sweet , smooth and balanced. It has beastly performance!

This doesn't smell like bakhoor at all. It's very chemical and doesn't smell like incense at all. A big let down!
