Blue Matcha

Matcha tea has a tradition dating back thousands of years, with its origins in China. Matcha later reached Japan in the 12th century when some monks traveled to China and discovered its powdered green tea leaves. They realized that matcha could be very useful for their meditation because, due to the presence of theanine, it kept the mind watchful and the spirit peaceful. So it was that when they returned to Japan they brought some seeds of the plant with them until it became an integral part of tradition and daily life, so much so that having one's own tea master became a symbol of the upper classes. Blue Matcha is different from the style of Montale to which one is familiar, being a fresh, crisp, moderate fragrance and becoming in the middle part relaxing ( perhaps the properties of this plant also act here). Suede and slightly tobacco notes in the final part soften it even more, making it in my opinion very elegant and adapted to any occasion. Try it to believe. Definitely a new thing for Montale, no Oud, Rose and Tonka bean in this fragrance. It's also not so citrusy as fragrantica says, it's a powdery, earthy leather with lots of mate that compliment the matcha. The first time I tried it, I didn't like the opening, it was too green for my taste, but it was because the tester bottle had just been opened and it needed some maceration. I didn't think much of it and went back home with the tester strips, I left them on a shelf and kind of forgot about them. I came back the following day, and I couldn't tell if it was Blue matcha or Herba Acquatica,but I was astonished by it. Once I figured it out I had to buy it. In the drydown the citrus and green notes get replaced with a lot of leather and that bitter Yerba Mate changing it completely. The performance is quite good, I put three sprays on before going to an evening out, and still got whiffs in the morning after a shower. So overall Scent-->9.5/10 Price-->6.5/10 Performance-->8.5/10 Bottle design-->8/10

This is clean, soapy and powdery matcha scent that turns peppery and woody. To me, it leans masculine. So beautiful and complex but easy going. I would love to see how it does with a little heat. 6 month follow-up: I have too many fragrances and I've forgotten to keep this in rotation. Next to other tea fragrances, this really stands up. It may not be as refined or as fancy as an LV but it absolute holds up to the extreme heat. The leather note is almost vanillic and the tobacco is holding up the citrus that last for most of the duration This composition is dense but the citruses hold up beautifully almost hidden within the matcha note, giving everything a minty feel. This is hidden gem of a beast mode fragrance. Extremely underrated.

it's really tangy and earthy! which is a combo i did not think i would enjoy but the citrus balances out the powdery-ness of it (which is good bc i usually do not like powdery lol). you know how people say that if someone says a fruit while youre drinking a la croix, you'll start tasting that fruit? that's kind of what the matcha feels like to me -- i KNOW it's matcha because i'm looking for it but i dunno if i would be able to tell if i smelled it without looking at the name/notes. and on the dry down it kind of smells like your clothes when you iron them??? either way im actually very fond of it which is good bc this was a blind buy LOL but my friends all really like it so it's a win 4 me (:

To the untrained nose, and no fragrance enthusiast. This is a slightly sweet, woody, softly citrus fragrance. Thats about it. It's got a designer feel, no offensive notes, nothing sticking out. You will smell "good" wearing this fragrance to 95% of the population. Maybe a "great" if they get a good whiff. No one who smells this on you is going to break down the notes, analyze the ingredients, and pull this fragrance apart to find a slight uncertainty. Then write a nasty review on fragrantica. Perfectly unisex - leaning masculine Great all-round performance Although is a delicious slightly sweet, green with some rind-y coconut, dark woods and a soft lemon tea undertone.

Delicious. Offers a unique, summer fragrance that fantastically balances a mostly fresh, green herbal with a slightly sweet, spicy and powdery scent that's mostly mass appealing. This is a versatile fragrance that can be worn in many different weathers and situations and will remain subtle and inoffensive. Don't imagine a hardcore matcha, tobacco or blackcurrant scent because this is not that. This leans more designer in that it is easily applicable and mass appealing. This dose NOT mean it lacks character or is ordinary. Smell 8/10 Longevity 7/10 Projection 6/10 (Perfect. Strong, but subtle) Wearability 9/10 Matcha-ness 4/10

Absolutely delicious and I will never go without a bottle of this in my stash. Fresh, clean citrus. The powdery musk notes keep everything so smooth and balanced. I was scared of the patchouli leaf(this was a blind buy) but it melts in sooo nicely with the earthy tea notes. I will say, the matcha is not a stand out note, as others have mentioned. Overall green and bright, this is such an uplifting and sexy scent. I find it appropriate for so many occasions and I get tons of compliments. Performance is excellent. This is so perfect for spring and summer.

Honestly? I think this is a masterpiece. This is not the basic tea-type fragrance that you imagine. You can catch the matcha but there are a lot of things going around. It's a unique, powdery type of scent that could easily be a signature scent. All weather and temperature compatible. Not the best performance but not bad either. Not too hars but deep and complex enough. Elegant, classy, easy to wear, and well compositioned men type a fragrance. 10/10 could recommend

Really nice fragrance and good value for money. Unique and underrated powdery scent that also remains quite versatile situationally. In terms of what season to wear, it isn't particularly summer or wintery so mainly autumn and spring but not too sure about wearability in extreme hot or cold. Solid 5-6 hours of good projection then it becomes more intimate. Cozy, powdery, and a unique and soft citrus in the opening 8.6/10 overall.

Wore this after a while had a sample this is a fantastic scent it's like Silver Mountain Water but more complex and darker.Yet still bright and uplifting be carful this is potent long lasting beast mode stuff it's incredible.Montale have really diversified and upgraded their fresh scents.This Herbal Aquatica Oudyssee and Aqua Palma show they are really gunning for the top of the pile when it comes to niche

Il mio profumo n.1 in assoluto fino ad ora. Fresco, pulito, dalle note talcate e sexy; il matcha gli conferisce un tocco unico ed estremamente particolare. Per i periodi caldi è fantastico, ma resta stupendo anche in inverno. Se sei una donna che non ama i profumi dolci, Blue Matcha saprà sicuramente sorprenderti. Durata e scia over the top come tutti i Montale!

Tart candy powder with the chalk dipstick in the air. Woody, dusty, sweet, sour, vibrant, slightly green, slighty blue, lasted and projected 2 weeks on a tester strip, i couldn't figure out which one it was so I had to back track my moves at the store and write down what I sprayed, then leave the strips in different rooms to find out.

Fantastic unique versatile fresh fragrance it's clean fresh but also weighty a great signature scent for a man fresh green woody powdery sweet.Its perfect for spring and year round except high heat. I'd give this a 8 out of 10 I'd have liked it to be a bit less weighty but I would need to try it in the spring/summer.

Blue Matcha is like a breath of fresh air in the Montale lineup: No rose, no oud, no bombastic sillage and no Montale DNA in general. It's softer than most scents from this house, but it still has substance. This not that much of a tea scent as I hoped though. The opening is very citric. In the first moments it feels a bit like a classic neroli-based Eau de Cologne, but then I mainly smell lemons. There is something slightly floral mixed in, which must be blue tea aka butterfly pea flower. It's not listed as a note on this page, but it was mentioned in Montale's promo text and is the reason for the word 'Blue' in the name. I don't get a lot of matcha or mate from this. If you want photorealistic tea, this might not be the best choice. The main note in the drydown to my nose is leather. It's rather soft and the fresh notes cling to it, no rough edges here, but it's unmistakable. Together with patch and cedar it grounds the scent. All in all this is a summery unisex fragrance that leans very slightly to the masculine side, but is still very easy to wear as a woman due to the floral and fresh notes. This is not my favorite tea-themed perfume, I prefer them a little sweeter and more, well, tea-ish, but it's a nice surprise from Montale. Update: I gave my sample to my husband after testing and he wore it once on our holidays. On him in warm weather it was so much more leathery, almost oudy, and much more typical for Montale. Not bad either, but I liked it better on me in milder temperatures.

A very solid fragrance that in my opinion captures the essence of a summer night at a place that’s relaxing and familiar. It’s clean and soapy with a bit of the hairspray kind of smell, but the woody facets and blackcurrant make it deep, alluring, and addictive. I don’t get any matcha, but the tea is noticeable and adds some relaxing green freshness to it. When drying down it starts to become a little bit more sweet and coherent, and I started to get hit with the nostalgic vibe of being in a friend’s suburban yard on a perfectly clear summer night, crickets chirping and fireflies everywhere. Smells like the refreshing feeling of a cool nighttime breeze after an extremely hot day. The majority votes for daytime are surprising to me, but fragrances are subjective after all. As with most Montale fragrances, performance is great and has a mass-appealing base DNA. It opens rather feminine but quickly becomes more unisex. Overall, Blue Matcha is nothing too mind-blowing, but is a great choice for a calming fresh scent that carries a nostalgic and intriguing attractiveness.

Tried it out today and as not many has reviewed it, I wanted to put my thoughts on it for the people who are curious about it, as I was. So.. this is a nice unisex scent. It doesn’t lean masculine or feminine to my nose. At first spray, I get some citruses and something spicy. However the citruses fade away rather quickly and then comes strong powdery notes with leather and cedar. The longer it stays on skin the more prominent the leather and powdery notes get. The spicy mate and the cedar are more supporting roles to the leather who’s actually the star of this show. This is not a typical tea scent and might not be what tea lovers look for. However it does have a matcha vibe from the spices and powdery notes. Imagine a leather bag and in that bag you have some cosmetic powder and a little bag of matcha powder, that’s how this smells. It smells sophisticated at the same time and I imagine this would smell good on a put together person! Anyway a different scent for montale and worth trying out! :)

I like this scent, it's certainly different. It's matcha-adjacent I suppose. It doesn't have the greenness that actual matcha has but it is a powerdy and herbal scent like matcha, combined with the fruit. Like a fruity matcha latte powder. The leather and tobacco become more prominent in the drydown and it pretty much becomes a different scent. I still enjoy the drydown just as much as the opening. I absolutely recommend trying this out. For myself, I'd prefer this scent in home fragrance. It has a slightly dark, earthiness and a strong musk that makes it less wearable for me, just because the overall scent profile gives me spring/summer vibes, yet it's more intense/dark than I prefer to wear in warm weather. And it isn't the type of scent I'm likely to gravitate towards in cool weather, until it gets to the drydown. I have the exact same feeling about Aoud Blue Notes and Aoud Lemon Mint from Mancera: great smelling scents that I would probably wear a few times a year, alone at home.

As to reviewers who say it doesn't smell like green tea matcha: Matcha (green) comes from the tea plant, called the camilia sinsnus. The material exclusively used for making matcha is a green tea leaf called tencha. Blue Matcha is actually made from blue butterfly pea flowers. The flowers are dried and ground into a fine blue powder, this is what Blue Matcha is made up entirely of. Review: Citrusy, powdery, bright, airy and slightly woody. Decent projection and decent longevity. Do I like the scent? Yes, yes I do...quite lovely in fact. My only issue is when to wear this...what is its season?? Not quite warm weather, not quite cold weather...weird. so I just wear whenever I wanna feel fresh/unique. EDIT: This has really grown on me...I consider this to be a 3 season banger (just not for high humidity). Clean, powdery and undescribably good. Also very unique and original to my nose. 9/10

Changed my mind on this one! In my first review I said that I got no matcha whatsoever. Today I decided to give it another try and wow, there it was! Smooth, earthy, lightly sweet matcha scent with subtle hints of black currant! I have no idea why it wasn't there at all the first time, I guess our body chemistry and temperature around us does play a role. Today I thought the scent was beautiful. Matcha is such a lovely and unique note. This perfume is quite gentle, it is not as loud and in your face as vast majority of Montales. This also has an alright projection (well, it's bad by Montale's standards, but good compared to most other perfumes), and decent longevity. I am now sad that I got rid of one of my two samples of this because I will certainly wear it.

I was stunned by this. The composition is perfectly balanced, and what is funny, I'd have never guessed the notes except for matcha (lol) which is dominant in the opening. I couldn't smell citruses or currant at all. On my skin it soon became rather sweet and somehow I was sure I could smell white flowers and maybe even vanilla (was it the powder note with patchouli, actually?). Later on, there was a hint of leather, too. It's powdery from the start to the end, but at the same time, there's something vibrant and green about it. I usually pass Montale perfumes, but I was happy to discover this one.

I'm part Japanese and I know a thing or two about Matcha. The heart of "Blue Matcha" is an incredibly realistic Matcha note, a little bitter in a very pleasing way, on a bed of subtle florals. I love it! Performance is decent, too. The base is kind of generic and sweet, and seems a little disconnected from the green, herbal heart. A relatively minor criticism, given how wonderful and strong the heart is; but a criticism none the less. Not sure why it's called "blue" Matcha, I'm not getting any blue.

if you're expecting a real milky earthy matcha, I think you'll be disappointed. HOWEVER, just smelling without expectation, this is a wonderful fruitchouli. It feels like the in between of THoO The Time (a berried round but ozonic tea scent), and something like Coco Madamoiselle or the early 2000s Miss Dior. I tad acetone-y, but ultimately a very sort of fun evening fruitchouli. Not something I necessarily need/want a bottle of, but I like it a lot!

The notes listes on Montale's Website are: Blue Matcha (Butterfly Pea Flower Tea, if I'm not mistaken), Cedarwood, Leather, Matė, Patchouli Leaves and Tobacco Leaves. Very nice fragrance: fresh, with green and floral nuances, powdery, soft, calming. It has moderate projection and excellent longevity, unisex, office-safe, appropriate for warm weather and, to me at least, unique without being challenging.

At first, I think I was a little bit turned off by the tobacco. But overall, it a nice green tea matcha fragrances that lasts and projects well. It’s not at all gourmand like a Matcha Latte. The blackcurrant gives it an interesting fairytale in the woods quality. It does have a strong masculine vibes to it but if you really like the notes, don’t let it stop you from wearing it.

An unexpected scent! In the opening it has the Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel vibe, then I get whiffs of Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden and Black Tar by Parfumerie Particulière. Good to note - it's not as loud as other Montale's, but that's not a bad thing as I would love to wear this scent in spring/summer. It's sparkly, fresh, but with a depth. An uplifting one!

I really didn't like the initial sniff of this. It was like an alcoholic aftershave. The drydown gets a lot softer despite the leather getting more dominant. Overall a unisex, masculine leaning leather fragrance with some citrus. The tea is nonexistent in this.

its nice i have it and the citrus dont last long but it is earthy spicy smell its a good fresh spicy scent with also a slight grapefruit back to it lasts long and projects well do recommend if your getting into niche parfums

It is very soapy, like lemon cleanser and bubble bath. It is very unoffensive and it leans more female. It is a solid buy. 9/10. It gives Italian, street, summer vibe. It is good blind buy for me! :)

I am looking for good, pronounced matcha scent, and this is not it. Black currant, yes, a little bit. Some citrus. No matcha. Not memorable, unfortunately.

i still like it but i WISH i got more of the tea notes but my skin only responds w the leather😭 but on my sister i can smell the citrusy tea

Starts off really old fashioned with musk and amber in a smoker`s room. It then acquires more interesting and fresh notes. I smell nothing that reminds of real matcha tea, but there is plenty of leather, sweet herbs and a touch of timber. Can`t smell the citrus either but I guess you can call this pungent note a black currant leaf (not very similar to the real one to be honest). The tobacco note here is more towards the smoker`s room smell rather than a freshly opened tobacco pouch. Overall, a sweet, evening, male scent. A bit too choky-sweet for me though.

Matcha? I don't get matcha. I get a creamy/powdery tobacco in the dry down. Smells a bit outdated more masculine side because of the leather note imo. I'm not sure if I like it yet. It reminded me a bit of Dior Addict. Which I declutered.

A clean lemony citrus on a bitter background that is reminiscent of mate tea. It's like you just squeezed a big piece of lemon with the fragrant lemon rind in your mate tea . The citrus notes give it a fresh and almost soapy quality for the first 30 mintues. After that, leather and bitter mate tea become more dominant. Blue Matche retains a certain lightness throughout the weartime that makes it perfect for spring and summer. I agree that it is a breath of fresh air for Montale. A citrusy smooth summery scent without oud, heavy vanilla or any trace of sweetness. As for me, don't like it very much, as it reminds me of an air freshener when I'm wearing it.

It smells like stale matcha that got dusty and dirty from sitting outside however it’s not bright like you would expect matcha to smell . Just dingy and a little herbal with a little powderyness

Tried Blue Matcha hoping for a fresh summer scent. What I got? A spicy, peppery bomb that totally misses the mark. The “blue” or “matcha” vibe? Barely there. No freshness, no smoothness—just a sharp, almost aggressive scent that feels like spiced alcohol in a bottle. I can imagine some Eastern European or South African women pulling this off with confidence and presence—but for someone looking for a clean, refreshing, mass-appealing summer scent, this is a disaster. Didn’t test longevity because honestly, I didn’t want to wear it. Don’t blind buy this if your goal is to smell clean or fresh. You’ll regret it.

Oh I really don’t like this. Smells like a vintage perfume that has gone bad. Terrible. Too bad because I love so many Montale fragrances.

Another hugely misleading named fragrance by Montale. Do not buy this expecting a Matcha dominate fragrance like a matcha Tea latte or even just a simple Matcha Tea powder. Now with that being said, objectively this is an amazing fragrance if you know what you're getting into before hand. This is a very Zen and Tranquil scent that's perfect for meditation, yoga, cuddling up on your patio with a book or taking a walk through the park. You should spray this on when you want to feel at ease and peaceful. Picture this- You're sitting on a leather couch on freshly vacuumed carpet while your sipping some herbal tea, you have laundry tumbling in the dryer near by with fresh linen dryer sheets. Someone just got out the shower and was powdering themself with talcum powder. Meanwhile someones in the kitchen is cutting fresh citrus fruit while someone else is smoking a pipe tobacco outside on the patio. It's cold outside and it recently rained and someone comes in the font door and the smell of damp wet grass/plants from outside wafts through. So you can see by my description this is more or a fragrance that reminds you of home life and the comfort and familiarity that brings. 10/10 for uniqueness here by Montale shying away from their usual rose/vanilla/oud fragrances. Longevity, silage and projection are all above average as usual with a Montale fragrance but it is not as beast mode as some of them. You will weat this fragrance whenver you need a pick me up but not when your craving a Matcha green tea latte, hah!

Pudramsı da diyebilirsiniz. Bana ne kadar narenciye de keskin bi şekilde baskın olmayan şekilde gelse de arkadaşlarım bu kokuyu alamadı. Ferah, farklı, temiz. Çok yeşilimsi değil çay hiç baskın değil. Arkadaşım Matcha geliyor bana dedi bende de tam tersi mate kokusu geliyor. Kız arkadaşlarım ve arkadaşlarım bayıldı. Tek bi arkadaşım hiç sevmedi. Tuvalet temizleme kokusu falan dedi ama hiç birimiz katılmadık. Yazın her yere sıkabileceğin ferah, temiz ve seksi bi koku.

Beautiful fragrance. One that's very personal to me and takes me back to my grandmother's place. Somehow captures the whole essence of the memory so well, indeed, that's what makes perfumes so special. This is uplifting fresh but with loads of character, the citruses, the subtle pop from Black currant, the clean white musk, oceanic fresh ambergris, blend in nicely with the matcha tea note at the centre, there is a slight powdery nuance maybe from the woody sweet tobacco note adding a bit of sophistication, all this evoke a happy feeling overall. The mate note gives off some kind of a Fenugreek seed vibe. The longevity is good, not beastly as other Montale's but that can be forgiven because the scent itself is so lovely and it's such a different offering from the house. 8.5/10

Blue Matcha is a diffrent take on a summer/spring fragrance, i would not recommend blind buying it, since the leather note is quite potent over the first 1 to 2 hours which gives it a touch that leans more masculine and the top notes are very mild, especially the matcha note. I would recomend it for peapole who like powdery notes, specialy present after 2 hours, in a way that vaguely reminds me of Dior Homme Intense. Blue Matcha peaks at the end, being so innocent, gentle and pure for every nose. Very unique and underrated

At airport I smelt every designer fragrances. Then I see the Montale place. I smelt Arabians Tonka, Infinity, Day Dream and Blue Matcha.My favourite one is the Blue Matcha. I want it so badly. My phone screen is blue matcha, my passwords are blue matcha, my reccomandations are blue matcha. It become the part of my life. Sorry if I have mistake English is not my language.

This is such a luxurious fragrance. It gives me somewhat hints of CLIVE CHRISTIANS MATSUKITA. It have a great projection and lasts upto 10hours on skin. I never expected i would love a fragrance with Matcha in it. This is unique and a true signature scent worthy scent. People will come and ask you what are you wearing.

I smelled this in store last week. I sprayed it on my arm and immediately thought I recognised the smell. I then gave my grand daughter a sniff (she is 7yr old). Her response was 'it smells like the stuff you rub on your chest'. She meant vicks vapour rub. She was right. I put the bottle back down.

this does smell like how i would imagine blue matcha in my mind but also...why? im not sure who this is for since it doesn’t match any naturally occurring smell and isn’t actually that nice. airy, bitter, and flashy.

It’s a bit generic, no? Inoffensive mate and leather with a tang. I actually don’t know if I smell the matcha or the mate, to my untrained nose they smell pretty close, mate being much “darker”.

As a matcha everyday lover, this does not smell like any matcha I have had, and I had a lot. It smells like lemon, black currants, oudh, stinky wood and a disturbing, bitter, leather note.

Not my favorite Mancera fragrance, although I think this scent would make a great home scent. It's almost summery, but not in a tropical way.
