Fantastic Oud

What can I say about this that will bring it justice. It just sends me! It's my favorite oud in my collection so far. Very straight forward. I was up to my ears in sampling Montales and Manceras and especially the ouds in my favorite perfumeria in Spain. This stuck out from all of them and hit me in such a way I immediately bought it. This helped me understand what I love about oud. The supporting role the other notes play for the oud are the best here. Of course this fragrance is beast mode and linear. I sprayed 4 sprays on the first night I wore it out and I knew I was choking the girls out, I felt bad especially in the elevator. This is one of those scents that is so good to me I don't care what anyone thinks. The oud is so pure, so front and center, and strong that I can really reflect on it as a note. Oud transcends seasons, gender, occasions, preconceived notions, and associations for me. It's so enthralling, simple yet complex and new to me. I’ve sampled and own other ouds that are more complex and refined. I'm learning more about oud as a notes especially high end ouds...But still this scent still will always have me like no other.

I’m pretty much addicted to the Montale DNA and they have been my entryway into the niche world, so it’s no surprise I continue trying and reviewing their offerings. Whether or not you’re into the distinct scent profiles featured in this house, the quality with which they are blended and their amazing longevity and projection must be appreciated. The initial blast is a challenge; stark woods/mossy oud, yet with a strong soapy quality about it that reminds me very much of a damp forest. As it settles on skin, the dry tobacco and patchouli come through, silencing the high level of contrast in the opening. Rose and styrax are the supporting cast, while the combination of ambergris and leather add another layer of dimension; they add a sparkling quality to the fragrance. The leather and incense are smooth and not overly animalic and add a sensual touch. Unisex scent leaning masculine. I would not categorize this as a blue fragrance (it is not marine despite the ambergris, nor light or airy as it features prominent smoke and spice accords), but I do associate this scent with a very deep satiny royal blue. Another hit from this house.

It has really grown on me over 1 year. There are 3 main notes in this: oud (the kind that is easy and pleasant, not barnyard), leather and honey. The sweetness is more honey-like than tobacco to my nose, but is probably coming from the tobacco. It is not a sweet scent overall, but the underlying sweetness makes the other notes more interesting and alive. I can smell this almost all day long with almost every breathe while wearing, especially in the first 5 hours - truly a pleasure to wear. There is a rose note in the background as well but it is not dominant and does not detract from the masculinity of the scent. As for those who say this is boring, I could not disagree more. I love it and would purchase again. This is somewhat like Montale Arabians in its oud and leather notes but with added sweetness. Proverbs 27:9

This has a soft Oud, not the challenging type. I think it's not the best from Montale, but this one you can use as a signature scent if you like Middle-Eastern Oud of the softer variety. Everything about this one is moderate; its performance, the impression it makes, and how memorable it is to you, but not to those who are around you who can tell you are wearing something different. I think you can easily pull this one off all year round and at all times, it will not choke anyone by it's overwhelming projection. Oh and it is definitely a male fragrance. Fantastic Oud doesn't compare to the other Montale standouts like Honey Aoud, or Arabian's Tonka in terms of creativeness or performance, but it's not a bad one at all.

plain and simply - this is a top notch scent. It clearly has the montale style bones, but with an increase in mass appeal. It’s spicy, peppery oud - but has depth. Feels resinous - almost ambery, but not sweet. It jumps off your skin and really changes over time. Compliments occur. The girlfriend thinks it’s one of the best she has smelled - and I agree with her. It’s a perfect balance: montale blood with mainstream personality. Signature worthy daily driver. Top notch. 7/10

When I want to make an impression or wear a seductive scent I spray this on. Every time I wear this without fail, someone compliments me. Very unisex, very underrated. A cool toned oud that is extremely well balanced, safe blind buy. I would caution wearing this at work, I was pinned against a wall from this fragrance alone. I stopped wearing this at work because of how much attention it got me.

This stuff is so good, the leather tobacco and oud all come out. Sillage is actually pretty good and longevity is above average. I'd highly recommend this and it's becoming one of my faves from the house. 9.5/10. This is one of the best ouds from montale that I've tried so far. This one is completely different than most of their oud offerings. This does lean masculine.

This is my favorite montale out of the 19 that I have. Oud is very prominent in this one but so are the other notes. Don't listen to the reviews because this is a beast mode performer. 9.5/10.

Just bought it yesterday, the scent opens like all Montale oud dna mix with amouage overture man , after 4 hrs, it ends up with Bvl for woman by Bvlgari on my skin. Very good perfume.

Wow it smells like I'm walking through a rain forest that has just rained. Very pleasant and sophisticated. Impossible to offend anybody wearing this.

It has kind of harsh opening, that might be challenging to some people. It has fantastic longevity that you need to wash it off.

Smells smoky and rich. Feels bold and confident — like wrapping yourself in warm, mysterious luxury.

So good, easy to like, clean and rounded rose&oud combo. Reminded me of boadicea Dasman, same goal.

Love this, smells like a blue fragrance plus rose and smoky notes running through it.

I got a sample of Fantastic oud to start the journey. It's sweet but it's not fresh nor candy sweet. It's dry rose sweet. Oud is there but more Amber than oud. I didn't like it much for first three times. Then I wanted more oud so I layered with Oud for Greatness ; two Fantastic Oud then one Oud for greatness. Now it smells deep, sophisticated and less sweet with more spice. For fall and winter, layering above two works so good, I purchased Fantastic oud just to layer with OFG. I would probably NOT wear this alone. I would also would not recommend this to anyone under 35 years old. IMHO is a good perfume but not great. Longevity and sillage is great. It's quite unique scent as well just that it's not my type of "oud" fragrance.

One of the most wearable Montale I've tried. This could have been an Mancera bottle, it's more on that style, although more on the daring side of Mancera. I bought at least 15 samples from Montale and what can I tell you from that experience is: "Try them before you buy them". That statement is especially true for Montale. Fantastic Oud might be the only winter time one that I'm considering buying. The oud gives a bit of darkness. Leans masculine because of the tobacco. It has a sweetness from the amber and a soapiness from the santal wood and rose. Leather is there for the animalic side of the fragrance (just from up close, not off putting). I would recommend testing this one for sure. LIKE not LOVE.

As previous comments stated, a round beginner oud, wrapped in (if not dominated by) a nearly vanilic patchouli-sandalwood combo. Masculine, but easy to wear, probably targeting younger crowds. Not bad, but not a "wow" at all, and not unique. For a similar price point, you can get Amouage fragrances online, or for half the price, other older Montale. When it will pass under the "$100", I will shift my vote from dislike to like. 25+, Fall/Winter/Spring evenings I strongly suggest Montale house to take a year off and think at improving the originality instead of issuing a soulless fragarance like this one, just to occupy the market.

You barely get any oud from this, because the oud is a top note and not a base note. If you hate oud but are trying to dip your toe in it, this is a good place to start along with Jubilation XXV for men. I mostly get patchouli, leather and ambergris from this - it is quite pleasant. Easily wearable. Masculine. You can smell the oud in this, but it is light and gives the fragrance just the right touch. A good oud for beginners. I got a compliment from my female co-worker today on this scent. DP

Female here. To my nose, this is a light, airy slightly sweet aoud w/ a vague rose. Warm, yummy amber emerges in the mid. Strangely, further into evolution, I detected chocolate. And 2 people, hours apart, asked if I were wearing Mugler Angel. I like it but going to try layering w/ fem frags, as it's a bit too masculine for me.

My first "Niche" fragrance. Intoxicating, dry Oud, tobacco and resinous scent. Very long lasting and surprisingly compliment getting, bit synthetic like all montale/manceras but still pretty decent for the price.

One of best móntales I ever tried. The tabacco and sweet honey spices are amazing in this fragrance. I will recommend to some one that like sweet spices.

This ones just ok, nothing special and a pretty strong oud scent. Go with Oudmazing or Oud dream both are WAY better.

I was expecting a strong oud based fragrance judging from the name but was quite surprised. I get mostly amber, leather, tobacco & incense. The amber sets a very warm tone for the scent. The tobacco here is dry and a little sweet. There's a little bit of patchouli as well. The oud here is on the soft and subtle side and very tolerable. Kind of reminds me of sitting on a high quality leather couch in the lounge of a fancy cigar club where the air is filled with hints of smoke and incense. Fairly linear. This fragrance also kinda gives me slightly medicinal vibes which I'm not a big fan of personally. But the scent overall is pretty pleasant and does not contain anything offensive or harsh. Overall Fantastic oud feels warm, mature, smokey, classy, woody, slightly dark, with moderate projection and longevity. I could see this working well for an older, well spoken & well dressed gentleman that has unique/sophisticated taste and hobbies. Opens with a bright and pleasant, clean and somewhat soapy and slight waxy quality. I don't smell oud off the opening but rather champagne and subtle rose. This scent reminds of something.....ah yes, Guerlain Encens Mythique. The notes listed for each fragrance are very similar but with some exceptions. Oud, leather and tobacco are offered in Fantastic Oud but not in EM. If you've never smelled Fantastic Oud, It's primarily Clean woods, amber, rose a little soap and hints of soft leather and tobacco (think Azzaro Wanted By Night kind of tobacco). EM, like Fantastic Oud, offers a lot of amber, some woods, incense (olibanum) and rose! This leans feminine but could be worn by a guy for special occasions in cool weather. If your a guy sample first.

Nothing fantastic about it. Another stale oud and rose combo and I’m not impressed. I might be biased, I detest this scent profile. And this one has Montale’s signature harshness. If you’re into the profile, you may find some value here. To its benefit, excellent sillage and longevity. If they turned the tobacco way up, we’d be on to something here. Instead, we get a resinous element that smells something like a balloon. Almost a 🙂, for me at least.

Ugh, after putting this on, thinking it would be somewhat masculine from the oud, it isn't at all. I don't understand the love of florals with Montale and then calling it "Unisex" This is very nice for a woman, for a "masculine" man, not so much.

Fairly linear rounded Oud scent, a bit smokey, bit woody, nothing spectacular, nothing bad about it. Sillage and longevity moderate...fantastic? No...a bit forgettable actually

Got a bottle and right away I can say that this has the Montale DNA all over it. Having said that, this is not anything like the Rose Aoud combo ones. It is not sweet at all, comes as a very dry one. Opening is similar to Arabians from Montale but then it shits to its own character. I get a good dose of oud with tobacco and patchouli, however after about 30 minutes styrax, intense, leather and rose come into play morphing into a beautiful blend of nots, there is no one major player in this one they seem to work well together. Rose is present, but this time it is in the background so this along with leather and tobacco notes makes me think this is more of a male fragrance. It is heavy and projection and sillage are going to be massive. Do not blind by this one. You need yo test it on your skin for a few days. For me, after day 2, I bought the bottle, Montale number 12. EDIT - 30.10.2019 My rating for this would be overall 3/10 Intended for men, but not exclusively. Not for the younger crowd. Try before you buy, try it on your skin, let it dry down. As the season changes, heading into fall/autumn, this turned out to be quite weak and disappointing. This is the first Montale I regret buying. I highly advise you to try it more than once, as on my skin, it disappears after 3 hours.

This masculine concoction comes across as more of an oriental fougere than anything else, in which no individual notes stand out besides the oud blast of the opening 5 minutes. Its a dark green leathery smoky and slightly soapy blend that has a reserved stoic and calm character, not sweet showy and loud like most montales. Like a mix between Amouage Epic Man and Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense. Wasn't blown away by the smell initially as i was expecting something quite different, on further wear i really appreciate Fantastic Oud for what it is, great scent for professional settings. Longevity is around 6-8 hours and projection is close after the first 2 hours. Age 25+

Not so 'fantastic' experience but probably because I ruined for myself by spilling my whole sample on my hands accidentally lol. After I washed my hands a few times though & was left with a slightly sweet woody oud (sure from the tobacco). I did do a small spot test further up my arm to get a better test without being overwhelmed by my hands lol..& will say it wasn't bad It's a dialed down crowd pleaser Oud when it's applied liberally lol & deff. think IMO it leans more masculine..but yea think I got the sample more so for the fact it was new & the name & to try it but just not my cup of tea when it comes to scents..

Linear asf... The oud won't let none of his bandmates breathe... It's a "no" for me, dawg. What I do like is the faint smell of tobacco, syrupy resin and creamy sandal. But to the novice nose, no cap, I could see this fragrance being a dud. The type of oud used in this is comparable to the one in Kabul Oud. As a guy on that other fragrance review site said about the types of oud used by Mancera/Montale: this one is of the "urinal cake variety". So many more great fragrances with the same note variety.

I must be missing something with oud in Montale fragrances. For me, this is a synthetic bomb, thank goodness I only got a sample of it. It smells like woody hand sanitizer and I couldn't get it off me quick enough. The Oud is definitely there followed by the Patchouli which adds ever so slightly to the scratchy fruitiness but only so slightly, this thing is dominated by synthetic oud. 2/10

Female here...After much contemplation, I blind bought this for myself for several reasons. I typically enjoy oud and woody unisex or masculine leaning scents, I hoped to add another Montale to my collection, and I found this for a great price, but now that I have this on, I feel this is 1000% masculine and I just can’t pull it off. Fortunately, it is exactly the type of scent that my son’s father would love, so I will offer it to him. On my skin, I’m getting mostly sweet tobacco (almost fruity at first) and leather, but not much of the other notes. On his skin, I expect it will fully bloom, the rose will be more detectable, and it will smell more complex. Hopefully I will be able to provide an update on that in the future. For now, I am choosing not to rate the scent (Like/Dislike), because it clearly isn't working on my skin, which I feel has absolutely nothing to do with the composition or the quality, so I’m not able to attain a clear or complete impression of it.

I like this one most about 2-3 hours into it, yes the opening is synthetic and harsh as most are, like almost any fragrance you test. The opening is most Always harsh and WTF’ish ,.. but... give it time, give it patience, don’t “over-do” it and you will be rewarded. Enough said🫶

Fantastic Oud is a very smooth and dry take on Oud. Slightly animalic with hints of tobacco. Leather and sandalwood steals the spotlight as it dries down. This fragrance almost strikes me as formal and leaning masculine, but soft enough for any occasion.

It is a nice “easy aoud fragance”,nothing too complicated but smells georgeous!any woman would like to smell this on a man,projection seems to be average,masculine,sexy and clean ,it is probably one of the best montales I have smelled so far.

All I can say is do not purchase blind, as to me its very blokey and what I mean by that is a body spray by lynx or similar and I would say something like azzaro pour homme.

This smells actually really good. What I would call sexy/musky, with great sillage and good longevity.

I can say that I'm sick of finding sandalwood and leather in every new Montale ones!
