Greyland

Oh yeah, this is a great fragrance. I don't know how I missed this earlier, except of course that Montale sells lots of similar sounding fragrances. But this one is a lot different from the other Montale scents I've tried. This one is actually very woody, as opposed to so many other fragrances out there that say they're woody and really aren't. There's no mistaking it in this one. Dark, but it's not like you're lost in a pine forest either. Mercifully not smokey. I don't smell pencil shavings either, although I really like that smell; there are none in this canister. Lasts about 5 hours on my skin, at least tonight, my first outing with it. Very masculine, but wearable for us women who like dark non-sweet oud/patchouli/cedar scents. So not a blind buy though, and with the demise of retail everywhere it's getting a lot harder to test anything first. Fortunately Montale is selling 20ml cans of many of their scents, including this one, so you can start small.

Now this is nice, very nice. It opens with a strong peppery blast, metallic cedar, and something else I can't place (is that patchouli like smell the vetiver?). Within 10 minutes it dies down a little and you get that unmistakeable pencil shavings aroma. As others have said you can smell the wood and the graphite. I couldn't place the other aroma I was getting on opening so I had to take to Google. Glad I did, I've learnt a new word - cistus. Apparently cistus is an essential oil from the rock rose plant and is described as smelling woody and herbaceous. That was it, under the sandalwoody scent there is a cedary, rosey, herbal twang. I would say longevity and sillage are moderate.

Yes this is masculine but women can still pull this off. I have and love Greyland. It's packed full of pepper and spices. Cedar wood and leather. If you like spices and leather you should like this. It's beautiful layered with Pierre Balmain Ambre Gris. I find that most Montales act like heavy bases. Not much top or middle notes but they are heavy, dense and longlasting. That's why i love them. And this one works great for anyone looking for a base perfume for layering there spicy, woody or leathery scents. It's really good on its own too. I've worn it a few times and no one thought i was wearing a men's perfume. I received positive feedback.

Yes it is pretty similar to Man 2 certainly puts me in mind of it but it doesn't quite have the same spicing, pepper sure but not that of nutmeg and caraway. Montale Greyland hits you with a fantastic opening of cedar ginger and pepper then turns to warm sandalwood, guiac and vetiver decent spicy woods! Some fragrances claim to be woody, Greyland is unapologetically wood and spice and I love it as much as Man 2 or Encre Noire. Has great longevity maybe not as legendary as other Montale's but possesses as much as you'll ever need.

I love this Montale. Greyland is quite different from all typical aoud/rose/sweet juices. In my opinion it is the closest in vibe to Comme des Garcons. It opens with very strong pepper, and later changes to very hinoki, woody, herbal green smell. Really beautifull. It is unisex but it is hard to wear for a woman. In my opinion after the pepper is gone it is very similar to Comme des Garcons Hinoki. If you are a Comme des garcons fan you will definatelly love this. It lasts all day and its projection is medium light.

This is one to put on with an extra dab somewhere on your hand where you can enjoy it yourself throughout the day. Top and middle are very linear, with lots of 'skank'(at least, that's how it comes out on this woman), then, at the end of the day, it has turned somewhat more 'lady-like'. I'm not sure which ingredients are responsible for the 'skank', but the rose is possibly what sweetens it at the end. Very long lasting on me, which is saying something. A must-have for me.

I love it so. It's quite refreshing feel good power citric being revealed and at the same time taken by the woods that surround it. In me it has a good projection and very hard but it is worth having it in your collection. Thanks to God has a great skin, that when the chemistry of perfume is good enough and even those that are not, my skin knows how to fix the smell until your last breath. I classify this: Smell: 9/10 Projection: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10

Absolutely love this, grabbed a bottle after not having it for a few years and damn! This is so damn sexy but not in a coy seductive way, but more like just had sweaty passionate sex and getting ready for the next round type of scent, in the best possible way. My ex wife told me that it was the only thing she would take if we got divorced, if that tells you anything.

What a great surprise this was....!!! I am getting vibes combined of Gucci PH1, Balmain Carbone, Montana Graphite and JC Dirty English. I find Greyland smokier than the afore mentioned. This is not really a "beast mode" Montale. Performance is moderate/average,IMO. Loving this one !!

This guy below seems to get off on rapid fire overly negative reviews, as he has around ten or so along similar lines just this morning. I don't really care if someone doesnt like a fragrance but it's not helpful to anyone to just be overtly hateful with no appreciation of subtlety.

Love it! One of the few Montale I really dig. Woody, spicy and sexy. Very musculine. I get a well-balanced cumin-like note (cumin itself is not listed)... Maybe it is the interplay of pepper with some of the woods, or cistus... A great scent, quite unique. Projects and lasts a lot.

Amazing scent, its very very dry woods. I cant imagine this scent on a woman, its like smoked wood with spices. Very unique. Sad that I cannot find it anywhere and Montale discontinued it. Im not suprised as it's a quite harsh scent, really not for everyone.

A minimalistic and austere masterpiece that smells extremely natural. One of the few Montales that I like. Cedar, pepper and cumin are the most prominent notes.

I have both Gucci 1 discontinued ver and this. I prefer this to Gucci due to it Niche quality smell. Better Definitely !

Where they ever came up with a boring name like Greyland for this wonderful frag, I can't begin to guess.

Greyland must refer to the land of grey haired people - specifically men. Smells like it to me. Nice woody, peppery scent. Evocative of salt and pepper hair. Seems very middle aged man in its vibe. Sillage is soft to moderate on my skin. Good for younger guys who want to seem more mature. Maybe ideal for a guy in his early to mid 30s who is trying to present himself as marriageable material to the woman of his dreams. Or a guy in his 20s who is trying to hook up with a MILF. Or a young guy angling for a promotion at work. If I'm going to go for a woody scent like this, I'd probably prefer something from the Comme des Garçons line, even though I'm a big fan of certain other Montales and Manceras. But I can see how this scent would appeal to a lot of people for good reasons. It's not offensive. It's well balanced. It's office friendly. It's masculine. It's not sweet or fruity, so it won't aggravate anyone's diabetic tendencies. A very civilized fragrance. I prefer pepper on my steak, not on my skin. It's the pepper note that detracts from this scent for me. If it were just woody, I'd like it a lot more. The pepper note makes you smell like a middle aged man who is getting his seasonings ready before he grills a steak over hot charcoal. The ultimate Dad scent. Not for me. I don't know how it would work for a woman. I guess the pepper note would suggest that she is a little spicy. But not excessively so. Not to the point where she wants to have group sex in public. More like a woman who has read one of the 50 Shades books and is slightly blindfold-curious. Suburban spicy. But that's all.

I wanted to try this because of the comparison to Gucci PH1 but I think this shares only 30% of that scent profile. I get pepper, ginger, woods (cedar, sandalwood, guaiac), vetiver and possibly papyrus and immortelle. The cedar is dry, the guaiac isn't smokey, more pastel, the sandalwood is smooth. The ginger keeps it from turning too dark. Greyland really does "feel" grey to me. ⚪ It legit reminds me of a haunted house on an overcast day. It smells like a mix of old, vintage, dusty wooden house with a little earthiness. It's not an aroma chemical bomb like many others from the house. This is actually fairly soft but not weak, and projection is suprisingly good. This is perfect for a rainy day or Halloween 🎃 Scent 7/10 Performance 7.1/10 P. S. Someone said it smells like a spa or sauna, and I get vibe too.

Comparisons with Gucci Pour Homme I are inevitable but where the Gucci is a bold peppery/incense laying on an woody/ambery base, Greyland strikes as much more starker and minimalistic. The main peppery/incense accord is immediately joined by a sharp cedarwood note that while it's perfectly executed at the same time adds even more severity to this extremely manly composition. Other woods, cumin and leather work as rough (but fascinating) refinements. Nice. If you like bone-dry fragrances a-la French Lover, CDG Monocle Scent 2 Laurel or the aforementioned Gucci Pour Homme, give Greyland a chance. Downside: zero sillage, weak lasting power. Rating: 6.5-7/10

It's extremely masculine, but still enjoyable for my nose, well, I woulnd't wear this as I'm not so much into unisex/woody/spicy scents, but it is good. It has Montale touch to it, but as Guusje already mentioned - it is similiar to Isos and somehow I remember enjoying Isos a bit more. So - if you like this try Isos and vice versa.

I don't get pencil shavings... but I do smell natural wood... like hinoki spa or Finnish sauna. There's something salty, and a bit body odor..ish.., cumin maybe? It smells sexy and masculine, dirty and fresh at the same time. It reminds me of my college gym sauna with bunch of sweaty football players.

Greyland is brilliant, and no wonder: It’s a 97% copy of the famous and much missed Gucci Pour Homme, but with less of the smooth Bourbon vanilla and a bit more of the sweatiness. Sex bomb, definitely. Very recommendable, especially since the Gucci fragrance is long gone. 8.5 / 10

Lovely, absolutely masculine leather scent, with warm spicy and woody undertones. Smells great but it has ZERO sillage and longevity on my skin. A shame, because I like it a lot! I recommend a sample before buy, to see the longevity and sillage on you skin.

I love the name of this frag and the images it evokes for me. Unfortunately it's a bit of a cumin, hoo-ha, armpit overload to my nose.

Outstanding peppery notes however I prefer CDG 2 MAN because of its longevity. This one has a very weak sillage & lasting power!

opening for my tastes too peppery. no similarity with gucci. a flat scent with a good sandalwood,cedre and vetiver and hints of skin .. it has not conquered me at all. you want to be creamy, woody, peppery, leathery, clean but in the end it does not take any of these directions and it remains a flat scent. good performance but not at the montale levels. 3/5

I'm just not sure Montale and me are going to be friends...I keep trying to find the one or two fragrances in this huge collection of options...Greyland did not work for me...all I got was a peppery blast with the background noise all ripe, sweaty armpit (and not the good kind)...very, very masculine and very, very strong...

Wow! Hell no! Cumin is not listed, but I get a portion of cumin, falafel/sweat feeling. I don't like it at all. Scrubber. I get a load of vetiver too, so if you like vetiver you might want to sample it.

Nice and pleasant scent leaning to masculine scents but common smell imo. Not for me.

If you are reading this DO NOT BUY GREYLAND. unless you want to smell like a handful of cumin. this is body odor to THE MAX. its vomit inducing.

Round 3 of my Montale sample expedition... Greyland....I've got my shoulder pretty much covered in this and...it's OK.....there are some nice elements that I really enjoy: pepper, wood, spices...but there is something that I'm not fond of. I know cumin and cardamom are not listed as notes here, but this for sure has cumin and cardamom hidden somewhere in the mix. It's giving it a little bit of a sweaty vibe....similar to the sweaty note I get when I smell Cartier Declaration, and although these two fragrances are vastly different, that cumin/cardamom note is definitely there. This is definitely a great masculine scent for those looking for something bold, masculine, dry, and spicy. This fits the bill perfectly, but for me, this is better accomplished in CDG Blackpepper. I'm having a difficult time picking out some of the other notes. This is what I get Blackpepper, cumin/cardamom, smoky leather, and guaiac wood....I can't detect the cedar or vetiver...perhaps I can smell the ginger. There is absolutely no rose in here. Musk, I can barely smell, but it's a very lively musk, rather than a dank musk. This is ok, but it's a pass for me. I've got CDG Blackpepper, Montale Intense Pepper, and Marc Jacobs BANG that give me more than this does.

Greyland by Pierre Montale takes us on a journey through an array of shades of grey that significantly differ from other perfumes with a similar name. There are no lavender-covered fields like in Serge Lutens' Gris Clair, nor is it a contemporary variation on vetiver like in Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver (although this ingredient also appears in the scent). Moreover, there is no hint of retro elegance represented by Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel. However, the scent reminds me of something I have already experienced, probably the work of another brand specializing in oriental compositions such as Al Haramain. Despite this, I consider Greyland a fragrance worth trying, perfect for gloomy autumn days. However, I am surprised by its labeling as unisex, as it leans towards the masculine side. But don't just take my word for it, judge for yourself. My rating: Recommended. (6/7)

I love me a bit of incense and I have all the big names cdg man2, gucci pour homme, tom ford Sahara noir. I sampled this together with montale full incense and bought full incense based on the longevity and sillage which is mammoth. Then I was still craving greyland. Listen here fragrantifans projection is not the deal breaker if you want that perfect scent. Some of the most gorgeous liquids are passed over because they seem too fleeting for what you pay. I say keep a bottle on you and apply as you want. Don't just buy the strongest scent because in the end you will kick yourself. Buy less and invest in the best.

Today I had sampled this fragrance against my Bentley for men Absolute. Both are very similar with the stronger opening in Montale Greyland. The middle notes are more pronounced in Montale , while Bentley has some lighter notes in the middle. The drydown is actually identical in both, but bentley seems more "interesting". Overall, comparing the value per ml and the quality of both fragrances I will stay with my Bentley. Nevertheless Montale Greyland is very good fragrance and goes to the category of my favorites.

Pencil shavings. Literally—this it ladies and gentlemen. A novelty complaint among the fragrance community, but this fragrance is literally the embodiment of a pencil sharpening station. Stale earthy woods, with a lacquerish tinge to them, and a metallic graphite-like note at the forefront providing an intense shady texture to it. Creative, but very inconsiderate, and totally unacceptable as a main release from the brand.

cedro, pepe, sandalo, vetyver, zenzero... apparentemente il profumo perfetto per l'autunno, eppure nella sua perfezione c'è qualcosa che manca, la persistenza. La complessità c'è ma le note olfattive si rincorrono e poi si perdono, il "percorso" di questo profumo è piacevole, ma mai abbastanza intenso. Lo stesso problema che riscontro in quello che per i miei gusti è più simile, Poivre Colonial di Phaedon.

Greyland is not a top seller from Montale and I can see why. Although the fragrance is good and smells natural, it's simply nothing very interesting or groundbreaking here. Greyland is peppery and woodsy and that's all about it. Not much development and not a great performance like other offerings from Montale. A 100% masculine fragrance, I don't see why Fragrantica labelled it as unisex.

Remind me a lot Gucci pour Homme with it's peppery-incensy burst. But the blend is WAY better and with a higher quality. I love this one! It's more natural than Gucci pour Homme. Montale's having a little something; blends are fantastic! One of the better niche and without the highest prices. Under 200$ for those fantastic "oeuvres d'arts" it's worth every dollars! 8/10

If you miss it and can't find it grab Hala by lattafa, it's almost identical and performs better. Greyland sits in the middle between both Hala and Bentley for men absolute, with loads of cumin. Has the montale DNA, however it's discontinued, don't try hard to find it, I did, I tell you grab Hala, it's cheaper, smells better without the cumin, and a better performer.

This is so strange and dusty. It smells like an abandoned kitchen that hasn't been opened in centuries. It makes me want to cough. I can see cobwebs and little creatures scurrying about, in and out of cabinets. Also, like a shark's black eye, this is completely devoid of a soul. I appreciate it doing it's thing, but I find it terrifying.

This one is discontinued but Papyrus Oud 71 by Parle Moi de Parfum had already taken its spot in my collection. Very similar but Papyrus Oud 71 feels much more refined. Bentley for Men Absolute is another great alternative but smells much sharper and harsher

Nice peppery fragrance. Shares lots of similarities with the newer CdG Blackpepper, just a bit less sweet, more "serious" and slightly woodier. Performance is, as with Blackpepper, about average.

When I speak about Montale I just can't choose which of his perfumes I love better, I do admire Greyland, very warm and spicy-woody, with an excellent black pepper in the top.

This is how a real man should smell on any occasion. My most favourite masculine scent. Makes me wanna cuddle in his embraces)) Warm, woody, intimate.

This review is based on a carded sample. This one reminds me of GPHI without the incense note. Moderation projection and good longevity on my skin.

This one is very special and not for everyone.Spicy and a strong cedar note. I like it very much.

I like it, because it is similar to GUCCI POUR HOMME, ...but this is more modern ....

I can't find this on the Montale website, does anyone know where I could purchase?
