Leather Patchouli

I don't know how some silly cheap dupes get higher ratings than this masterpiece. If you like Psychedlique by Jovoy, or Amber Kiso by D.S. & Durga you will certainly like this one too, except this is stronger than both of them. I think I need to qualify the adjective 'stronger', and by that I meant longer lasting and more diffusive and projecting. This can be worn to make a statement if you're dressed up smart casual (but not for work) or dressed down for an evening out. I wouldn't wear it for a fist date, but I would if it's a group gathering on cooler spring day/night, or fall, and definitely winter. It opens up with a zingy woody/oud note mixed with the leather and patchouli, and one minute after that initial spray the lovely medicinal oud smell hides in the shadow of the labdanum and some barely sweeter notes. Thick, syrupy, addictive overall. The leather is strong, yet soft non-animalic, just clean and substantial, mixed with this lovely chocolaty patchouli. These notes continue to the dry down where the vanilla wraps them all in a nice warm and addictive emulsion. I don't know if this fragrance is inspired by anything, but it certainly is one of those lovely amber, chocolate patchouli labdanum scents that deserves attention. Someone said the liquid is dark. Yes it is VERY dark. Maybe darker than Surge Lutens amber fragrances, don't spray on light colored clothes, it will not come off.

I've been looking for something like the 1974 Givenchy fragrance which was very Patchouli forward. On Fridays I like to smell completely different than the rest of the week. The new version is nice, but of course nothing like the original. I really like Mancera and Montel and found a good deal on Leather Patchouli Montale. I loved the first spray it reminded me of 90s Grunge - Kate Moss, Johnny Depp and Courtney Love came to mind. For me on my skin it was dirty patch, leather and chocolate in the beginning - I almost wish it would stay like that the whole time, but in about 30 min it started getting more complex and smooth. Finally at the end it was powdery, vanilla and musk. A really nice fragrance, but except for the opening Patchouli is in the background. Does anyone have a recommendation for a fragrance similar to the Gentleman (1974) Givenchy formula? and not Giorgio of Beverly Hills - I definitely couldn't see myself wearing that one.

The leather in this one truly takes center stage — unapologetically bold and unapologetically animalic. It’s rich, dark, and slightly rugged, with an earthy, chocolate-patchouli undertone that gives it real depth. Definitely not a crowd-pleaser, but for me, it’s perfection. Confident, assertive, and full of character. Performance is outstanding — 8+ hours on skin and it clings to clothes for over a day. Ideal for warm autumn afternoons, paired with a jacket or knit. Strongly masculine in tone — and absolutely one to test before you commit.

Top notes are leather and patchouli but the leather quickly fades and the wet green patchouli dominates the scent. This is classic head shop patchouli. It is pleasant but it's hard to overcome the "head shop" connotations. I'll take Davidoff Leather Blend over this. Still, if you love Patchouli, this will suit you well. Update: The more I wear this the more I like it. Forget the connotations. Great performance. Great scent. Can smell with almost every inhale.

I own a 2021 batch bottle. Very potent & not so complex scent. Its a beautiful composition. It really fills the room so be careful when you spray lavishly. It lasts for more than a day on my skin & many days on my clothes. If you over-spray, you might end up with headache but whatever it is, the scent is beautiful and leans masculine. It starts with a blast of patchouli and settles down with beautiful vanilla. It’s a full bottle, worthy affair, sincerely!

Roomfiller? No. GLOBEFILLER. Trails from North Pole to South Africa. Atomic bomb. Warm, woody, leathery, earthy... lots, lots, lots - and if you can't get enough - there are still LOTS of dirty patchouli around. Magical. Stays forever on clothes, literally smells strong after a few (!) washes. Stays 24+ hrs on skin. Projection is even hard to describe, 12+ hrs at least. Can't get enough of this scent. Gets MANY compliments! Absolutely amazing fragrance!

Absolutely unhinged perfumery here. My friend wore 5-ish sprays of this and I could smell him from all the way on top of a long escalator with the draft taking this perfume down to the metro where I was standing. Almost every "normal" person hates this. DO NOT spray this on bright clothing, DO NOT spray it on your neck while wearing bright clothing. If you like insane rip-your-nose-off leathers, this will be your best friend.

People really aren't joking when they say Montales are great performers. Bloody hell, this, and my other Montale - Black Aoud - are monstrous. They are freely available at discounters like Allbeauty and Notino for about £50, which is frankly a steal. Leather Patchouli is definitely dark; quite an animalic mooey leather with a chocolatey patchouli riding atop. Not for the faint of heart.

It is a love, definately, although I am a woman. It is dark, cosy, ovetwhelming, warming...For me it is like I'd enter a saddle house after drinking some whiskey by the fire, wearing patchouli oil scent on me . Brings good memories, stands out. I don't really care if someone likes it on me or not. Fits gothic outfits the most. Lasts on the skin even after a shower. Great value.

Any goth lovers dream. I’ve had this for YEARS and wore it a lot thinking this is it my favourite fragrance ever. Now it is associated with hangovers and feeling sick and I’ve never been able to spray it without feeling extremely queasy. There is something bizarre and waxy in this that turns my stomach but 5 years later here I am doused in it. Let’s see what happens!

This stuff is potent and addicting. Has an earthy, chocolaty patchouli and a hint of leather. Really addicted to this stuff. Got it for 50 bucks and at that price it's a steal. 10/10. I'm absolutely addicted to mancera and montale fragrances. I'd like to add that this is one of the most powerful fragrances you can get. It's up there with red tobacco.

Same beautiful, balanced patchouli note from Montale’s excellent Patchouli Leaves fragrance but the vanilla is significantly toned down in favour of a subtle application of the leather note from Aoud Cuir d’Arabie. Sure there is a touch of the other notes, but this is a simple yet satisfying blend.

Very masculine , smells like dark chocolate with little dark green. + Beast mode. Skin last 3days , clothes forever. - Color your skin when you apply. My favorite scent

I've actually received several compliments with this which is hard to believe. I honestly think this is one of the best from the house.

Chocolatey patchouli. Minimal leather. Beautiful scent. One big problem though is that it sprays onto the skin brown, which is gross.

Gorgeous, soft animalic leather, dusty basement patchouli and a little vanilla at the end.

You guessed it... Leather, patchouli... and woods. Definitely woodier than anticipated, but not for a few hours into the wearing. This comes out swinging like a prize fighter looking for a first round knock out. A punch to the senses of unapologetic, almost pungent leather; and a dark, rich patchouli similar to straight patchouli essential oils. Very powerful. Very confident. An hour or so after the opening is where the real magic happens. The patchouli fades substantially and the leather mellows into something luxurious. Like a high end bag or inside of a luxury car. The added woods that come into play make this much more wearable than something like Mancera’s Wild Leather, which also shares the exact same Pierre Montale leather note. A definite heavy like for me during the right situations. While I agree Montale’s Leather Patchouli is masculine, this would also smell amazing on a woman; particularly in colder months wearing leather jacket, bag and/or boots. So good and very intoxicating. Rating: 8.5/10

One of the boldest, unapologetic, medicinal leather-oudy fragrances I ever tried. With patchouli playing a rather small supporting role. Indeed not for the faint of heart (or nose). Still I can totally see and appreciate a woman wearing this. (Usually it’s retro chypre and fougere notes that I find mostly masculine, but not this). In the course of hours the leathery boldness slowly and naturally evolves into pleasnt and subdued vanilla-musk dry down. Perhaps this frag is too linear to become a love of mine but certainly it’s a big solid like. Husband’s (knows-nothing-about-perfume intellectual introvert, favours Terre & Vetiver Tonka by Hermes) verdict: smells like a new leather belt, powerful, but not repulsive, intriguing on a woman.

I decided to try this one out because of leather. I love leather and am on a look out for nice and interesting leathers in perfumes. Oh boy, this one started strongly :) The leather note is definitely dominant here. And at the start is very much earthy, as in, you can imagine the leather with earth on it! That kind of leather note. After a while it settles down and patchouli emerges, but the earthy leather is still there, but tamed. I gotta say that at the start I thought it's a 'like' from me, but after the initial earthiness settles, it's a 'love'.

Super strong, earthy, synthetic, rough and tough mix of leather with patchouli. Very potent, lasts forever, you cannot forget you're wearing it. Smells a little mossy and dirty, as expected. Huge leather blast in the opening. Being a woman wearing this means people will find it peculiar. It's not purely masculine imo but has zero femininity to it. It's merely a "like" for me because the synthetic notes sometimes give me a headache. Never, NEVER, overspray this!

This starts off with a gasoline smell which may remind cocaine. I could even smell it from the montale pouch before opening the bottle. But gasoline doesn’t linger for too long and patchouli presents its dominance in no time. As it dries down it gives you what its name suggests, hardcore leather (less) and patchouli (more). I like the montale’s general straight up offensive DNA and this is a good example. Most wearable when I am in the mood to offend people.

Striking and sharp kind of Leather and a Bold Patchouli in the opening. Dark and Loud for the first 15 or 20 minutes, maybe half hour and then the fragrance dies down to a skin scent. Wish it had more longevity. This fragrance would be a great candidate for an intense flanker. Cold weather appropriate, but not the office. I will try layering it....

first montale i’ve tried and oh my, potent indeed. i usually ignore the eternal longevity claims, since my skin hardly ever allows for 6 hours at most... well, this shut me right up. very much what the name suggests, plus there’s something vaguely cellar-like on me and i truly can’t get that opening out of my head. though i do wonder if it stains.

a sweetened copy of tom ford black orchid. very reminiscent of a liqueur praline ... with Patchouli and dark vanilla. it's not a bad smell ... but there's better. excellent performance. Where il leather? Vote 6.5/7 After 12 hours...very top sweet and disgusting...i want to wash it.

Patchouli lovers to the front. This is a peppery patchouli with a bit of sour tang from the oud and leather. This fragrance plays very well with others. The projection off my skin was more than expected. I sprayed this on my arm and could smell it though my pillow at night.

Simple, but very nice. It gives you exactly what it promises with it's name - leather mixed with patchouli - and lasts for hours. Not too sweet, not annoying. I find it overpriced, especially with such a cheap packaging, but the juice is good.

The name describes this pretty well. I get leather, and patchouli, in that order. The opening is a bit too rough almost animalic for me. It dies down quickly to a warm leather and patchouli.

This is an interesting fragrance FOR SURE. You smell Patchouli and leather right off but it does give like a grey feminine vibe. To me its more feminine than masculine. It's definitly complex and in the dry down it gets more interesting 6.5/10 get this if your a woman (NOT SAFE TO BLINDBUY)

This is the first Montale ive enjoyed enough to purchase a full bottle. Dry smoky leather balanced and complimented by wet green patchouli, a potent combination from opening. There is not a lot of sweetness initially, as it dry's down you find the usual montale oud, resins and something a touch animalic, the fragrance is rounded out by long lasting dusty vanilla and musk, at this point the fragrance is very sweet. Performance is good, longevity is around 7-9 hours, projection is strong for around 1.5 hours

Somewhat a step beyond Dark Vanilla? Dark Vanilla without the sweetness and with added leather. Of course, everything is light, there’s less leather here than in Ombre Leather, where it’s an accord under oud or patchouli. On the skin it turns out to be unsuccessful; the leather becomes lonely, dull, and cheap. This scent is not worth thinking about.

On paper I get a cherry brandy dark chocolate liqueur. Then on my skin I get an intensely hardcore and dirty rotting wood - damp, musty, earthy, fungal and wholly repellent as wearable scent. It eventually fades down to a winter-stored potato. No leather, no patchouli or any other notes, (on paper or my skin). This has to be one of the ugliest fragrances I’ve come across. The only good thing about this is that it thankfully didn’t last on me.

This is possibly the most offensive fragrance on the market. My friend sprayed this once on his arm and I left the room gagging. A horrible blend of unappealing notes. I cannot understate how much you will be told you stink when you wear this.

If you like both leather and patchouli this is what you're looking for. It presents both in the best possible way. It's a serious perfume to be dressed up in my opinion. It's not hippie or goth, it's rather gentlemanly. If you know Patchouli leaves from montale, this is it's more serious brother, though share the same patchouli accord, but here it's not playful and seductive as in patchouli leaves, it's more dark brooding and serious. Both frags shouldnt be sprayed on white clothing becase the juice is dark. And they're winter fragrances, so feel free spraying on darker clothes. Certainly not a mass appealing fragrance, you can see this in the reviews here, it's a fragrance you can't be neutral to. Sample first unless you like dark leather and patchouli, then it's a blind buy safe. I had a 2 ml sample since 5 years which I used only once and forgot about it since I was tired of leather, tried it again and oh boy, it aged well, this will transform the longer it ages. Should test it again in winter time. If you like the patchouli here but would like it to be warm and ambery vs dark and leathery, get Montale's patchouli leaves. Performance is 10/10. Ambergris is not a listed note on the website, which is good.

An overall great scent! Starts with a blast of dirty leather and patchouli which stays throughout the life of the frag. As it develops some ambergris and vanilla joins the party and the deep dry down is warm, but still leathery. Leans masculine. Cool/cold weather appropriate (perfect for autumn and winter). Above average performance on my skin, stays for days on clothing. I can still smell it on tester strip after 7 days. Edit: I have been wearing it a lot lately (it's late September 2022). And I barely get realistic, hardcore leather. It's more smoke than actual, "palpable" leather. The end result is a coctail of damp, heavy, eathy patchouli, some woods, some smoke and ambergris. No vanilla and no sweetenes, which I adore in a formulation. I still like it though. I like it more actually😄 as it's even heavier and darker. It shines in colder temps!

This is a really nice. You get leather and patchouli equally and it’s quite linear but at the end you get a little dab of sweetness that’s really nice. Good silage, decent longevity but my skin soaks up anything I put on it. I’d say it’s unisex but leans masculine because of the lack of sweetness. Edit: I’ve become obsessed with this. The leather isn’t the saddle type or the new shoe type.. it’s barely there to me because it blends so well with the patch it just feels like a super dark patchouli. The patch is there all the way through. I never get compliments but I’ve had two while wearing this. I’ve recently went patchouli crazy and bought tons of samples and this is by far my favorite. If your into patchouli frags I don’t think this will be shocking at all. So deep and dense, It’s a winner for sure!

@troytheisen yea they are a bit over priced but the quality is there..as for the bottles I personally think the aluminum can bottles are brilliant let me school you..They’re opaque a great thing to help preserve the juice inside so no light destroys it, metal gets colder quicker then glass..(I personally find that soda, beer..etc. taste better in cans b/c they taste colder) fragrances & heat do not mix well it destroys the fragrance so being in a bottle that stays cooler & no light can penetrate as to not destroy the scent is pretty good marketing to me..if you don’t like the price mate search on eBay..I’ve gotten plenty off there for the prices you think they’re worth..but no doubt again Montales quality is there.

Respectfully, this fragrance is disgusting to me. After wearing and owning this fragrance for a little while, I despise it. The opening is actually pretty nice, it’s a powerful leathery gasoline type of leather, with some oud, but as it dries down it starts smelling like potatoes, which is what some other reviews said as well, but it’s not just potatoes, it’s potatoes that have gone moldy because you left them in swamp water for a couple weeks, that’s what this fragrance ultimately smells like. And I’m not inexperienced with animalic leathers, I do like things like cuoium, Rien intense incense, and things in that ballpark, which are well constructed making them not smell disgusting such as this release is, wow.

This fragrance is extremely funky and dirty smelling if you smell it directly off the skin, but the fragrance in the air is much more palatable, it’s a dirt-like patchouli with almost a hay smell, but then it’s combined with a fluffy vanilla, which makes it an interesting combo. This is all I get so far, but I know that I will be able to get better performance and pick up on more nuances/accords with maceration taking place, which is how it went with me for Oud Edition.

Some of the best openings of any fragrance I've tried. Dark smokey leather and earthy patchouli with slight vanillic and chocolate undertone. Very powerful intoxicating scent that isn't for everyone. Ultra masculine imo. I've received a negative comment from a female friend while wearing it, but that doesn't prevent me from wearing it as I find it addictive and wear it for myself. In the same group as Duro by Nasomatto, especially during drydown.

Can’t decide whether I love this or hate it. I keep trying though so it must have something going for it. It comes out of the gate big and brash - there’s zero nuance to this fragrance. It’s got a weird dirtiness to it that is strangely attractive. UPDATE: Stopped multiple times by people asking what I’m wearing because they love it. Get home & my wife tells me that whatever I’m wearing needs to go in the bin.

Amazing opening, raw masculine leather, a little salty and earthy with notes of oud. It starts to dry down to a damp oud with vanilla, reminds me of Black Afgano, which I don't like... after an hour, the leather and the patchouli are mostly gone but these last notes remain strong. If you're into that damp, wardroby oud, this is for you.

It starts off as mentholated patchouli with a damp vibe. The patch slowly starts smelling like potato peels, but this goes away and the base gives way to a mild mix of leather, patch and oud. Smells nice... let's see how it'll perform in the cold weather.

Definitely unisex on paper, this take on leather normally could be considered more masculine - although the woman I love wears it and she's able to pull it of naturally, so it depends on a personality and style I guess.

on paper strip this smells exactly like the name says. leather and patchouli. last year I tested a fragrance in grasse (France) leather and patchouli and this is the same, a wonderful dirty leather patchouli

This is my first Montale, and my what a first impression! Smells amazing, great blend, great sillage and longevity. Checks all my boxes!

maybe on skin there is more development,on paper I'm thinking I should have bought the bottle of 10 euros in France.
