Oudrising

I am hesitant when it comes to leathery scents as too many of them remind me of a couch or a freshly detailed car - not unpleasant but not a fragrance I want on me. The leather note in Oudrising is certainly there but it is nuanced. It has a certain subtlety that renders it neither couch-y, like a BMW interior, nor too masculine. And that's the theme for most of the notes in this gorgeous perfume. I can pick up on just about every accord listed here. The oud certainly shines the brightest and it is done well. It's fragrant and fresh (and without the urine smell that some oud scents have!), and blends so well with the subdued smokiness. The perfume opens with pepper and citrus; I adore the vibrance. There are floral and rose notes in the middle, and the rose is among the best I've smelled - it's unmistakable yet youthful, which is a pretty rare combination! Dried down, vanilla comes through and mingles with musk and tobacco, and hints of other woods. This scent ticks so many boxes for me. Unlike a lot of Montale's creations, there is something quite natural about this fragrance. It's not as artificial. It suffers a bit when longevity is considered; it pales in comparison to the more synthetic perfumes. That said, it's still noticeable and a sure-fire compliment-getter. It's certainly unisex, and I'd argue suitable for all seasons. One of my best purchases this year, hands down.

Hi guys this is my first review on fragrantica which goes to show how much this fragrance means to me. I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE. It is the ultimate daily driver. it is perfect for day time. it is perfect for night time. it is great in summer and great in winter. Out of all the montale fragrances (of which I own many) oudrising is for sure my favourite. Where it does lack however is in its strength and performance, compared to montale's aoud lime and arabians for example. It is considerably weaker. Despite this, I would and have re-purchased oudrising many times. it is a cornerstone of my collection and given the price it is without a shadow of a doubt the best bang for your buck. OVERALL RATING: 8.5/10

#653 in my "Tour de Fragrance" There are times where I think Montale and Mancera are the same people putting out the same product in different bottles, and this is one of those times. The difference between this and Mancera's Crazy for Oud is niggling at most. This is a little less sweet with a bit more tobacco making it maybe 2 degrees more masculine. This projects a tiny bit better and is a bit more citrusy and smokey, so if I had to choose between the two I'd pick this. A woman would probably pick the Mancera. But it's a great fragrance, not going to knock anyone over if you don't overdo it. More of a cold weather, night time scent to me. More cuddly than sexy.

I wish this was as ‘beast mode’ as other Montales! This one is likely my favorite. I was worried that I’d get a heavy dose of oud but it is smoothed out with the leather, spicy tobacco smoke/incense black tea, and vanilla sweetness depending on how far you are into the drydown. for me, the leather is the main player throughout the entire fragrance, rather than the Oud. Which I think I would prefer. Montages are known for sometimes being harsh, sharp, synthetic, etc., and I’d tend to agree, but not in this case. If you’re a fan of rugged leather scents this is a no brainer. Extremely happy with my purchase Longevity 7/10 Sillage 6.5/10 Scent 8.8/10

Nose Note #1090 I'm surprised that more people haven't voted for Maison Crivelli oud line. This smells like Jordi Fernández borrowed HEAVILY from Oudrising (or maybe Bvlgari oud scents? I haven't tried them) for his Cuir InfraRouge and Oud Maracuja. Seriously, the connection is crystal clear. This is a great refined fruity oud scent. Creamy oud/leather accord with something like maracuja. Montale is not very expensive, but a cheaper alternatives which are a bit more aggressive would be French Avenue Azzure Oud (more sour, stronger) and Aromatix Carnal Desire (sweeter, more cotton candy, stronger). 8/10, wonderful discovery

I love this one. It’s one of the more wearable Oud frags from Montale. The opening is bright and fresh, almost a sweet designer freshie vibe in the opening with a good dose of citrus and rose, then the leather and Oud comes through. I’m fairly sure that this uses the same leather and Oud accords that Tom Ford uses in Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood, but this definitely goes its own direction with the smokey incense and rose. Performance is very good but not beast mode like many other Montale frags.

Luxurious, soft, leathery, whispers of citrus...light and dark at the same time. It may appear to be weak on projection and longevity, but it is not. It is a soft, and persistent fragrance, subtle in its appearance and reveal. As you move about your day, this will make itself known. This shares similarities with Oud Edition, in fact they are cousins. Oud Edition is the high powered corporate executive and Oudrising is living for the weekend. 8.5/10

I worn this at work. Was a long shift so I decided to choose strong scent, that will stick with me whole day. It didn't let me down! It was with me from 6:30am until I took a shower at around 7:30pm. I could feel it under the shower still pushing it hard. Love this stuff.

Sprayed this at Self Fridges. Damn love it. I wanted to buy Montale Oud Island but this is basically the same for kind of half of the price. It's magnificent scent. Last forever and project veeery well. 👍 9.2/10 from me so far. Instantly ordered a bottle...

This is spring, cool summer evenings and early fall fragrance. I love it. This is not a dark or heavy scent and the notes listed are part of the blend but not all of them are leading notes. One of the most wearable (mass pleasing) Montales.

Might need to get a full bottle.. I love this, reminds me of an expensive shoe shop i went to as a kid. Very leathery but the florals make it more wearable. I imagine a guy with a big beard, long black hair and a pilot jacket wearing this.

The most beautiful scent on earth, that is gone in an hour. Montale, why do you do this to me? If you like creamy leather florals, please try this one. I've never smelt anything like it.

I don't know who evaluated the notes before me. but in my opinion he was wrong. I immediately say that I had many hopes for this perfume which for now are a little disappointed. a sweet scent with predominantly oud and not much leather. very citrusy opening with pink grapefruit that wins over everything after a strong start of bergamot. i actually feel little leather almost non-existent. the middle notes are purely floral with a good rose typical of montale, excellent jasmine and superb black tea. the smoke and incense are there, but they are not the protagonists as I expected. it would have been nice if they were stronger. sandalwood, amber and tobacco conclude it all. my conclusions are that i am disappointed. is a classic montale bomb with the addition of citrus, flowers and sweetness. it is very strong. unisex but with 65% feminine. blind purchase wrong. 6.5 / 10

very bright oud interpretation. I was expecting darker and mystery from the pyramid but it is opening with blast citrus notes, then oud infused leather take the scene and stay until the end of the scent. I did not get too much smoke, incense or tobacco but there is a slightly sweet undertone, i guess it comes from amber. Vanilla and musk are not detectable but synthetically there is a clean tone (ambroxan maybe) and i like the contrast with dusty leather notes. It's a good perfume, good sillage, good longetivity but not signature worthy.

It instantly reminded me of the Dark Vanilla by Montale, but more leathery & floral. Essentially Oudrising is a smokey leather with fruity nuances (my guess, raspberry) with that oily petroleum nuance. Leans masculine. This really reminds me of Colonia Quercia , in a good way, especially the citrus and bergamot. Has that montale note to it and strong staying power, 2 sprays is enough on my skin chemistry. I had Quercia before so it's too similar but if I hadn't this would be a good spring/ fall fragrance

It's not bad at all. Typically I'm very critical of Montales, but this one I do enjoy. A lot more than Oudmazing as well. And at Montale's price point comparison to other niche offerings, I think this one is a pretty good deal. Sample first, of course.

Very pleasant for an Oud. Bulgari Onkeh is a very good comp. Onkeh much more boozy and vanilla prominent - but they are similar. I prefer this. There's something light and airy and wearable about it. I wouldn't buy a bottle, but its good.

Beautiful saddle leather fragrance with oudy and smoky nuances, that very gradually softens with whispers of amber/vanilla and tea.

Gone in 60 minutes. I just sprayed this on for the first time in months, and remembered why I don't wear it. It gushes forth impressively, full of adventure and fun, and then just disappears. Fortunately I only sprung for the 20ml bottle, and aren't they a real godsend for those of us who don't see Montale in stores or go to stores much at all and blind buy nearly everything? Still, not worth buying for so short an adventure. February 28, 2023 add on: And it's way too sweet while it is here. I suppose by 2020 Montale had covered every other nuance of Oud/Aoud that they went for the really sweet here. Their Nepal Aoud and Dark Aouds are so much better.

Leather heavy fragrance that is dark, animalic and smoky. This is what I imagine the Marlboro man would smell like after being on a monthlong cattle drive. Just too smoky for me to ever imagine wearing it.

I agree, nothing special and not worth a full bottle. There are much more interesting scents out there (included other Montale Perfumes).

Where Gucci Guilty Absolute or Phil Plein No Limits are more for biker mouses and rough guys this is more a classy leather. Nice brown leather shoes and a classy leather jacket. Don't think of this as a typical Montale. This is more subtle and less in your face. Still strong but not nuclear as you come to expect from Montale. Because of that this works really well as a work scent. It is slightly classy, very manly and i expect woman to find it sexy.

It's just ok on me. Only last about 2hrs and it's almost gone on my skin. Definitely a beautiful scent. Just wish it lasts longer

@chillzz1230 Are you sure only last 2 hours ? i think you got anosmic, this perfume is strong dude, treat this as red tobacco.

Is it really similar to dark vanilla by montale ?
