Powder Flowers

This was a disappointing blind buy - at first. I found it so chemical, it was a turnoff. I don't know what it is with Montale fragrances, but too many of them strike me that way as soon as I spray. For some unknown reason to me now, I didn't return it, but stuck it in my perfume cabinet and forgot about it. We've been having unseasonably cool weather here in the NE and so I haven't been wearing fragrances I normally do for warm weather. I spotted this bottle in the back of my cabinet and decided to give it another go. And I am so glad I did. Beautiful powdery florals and lightly sweet tonka. Best yet, this no longer smells synthetic to me. I don't know if maybe it had to sit around for a while, or maybe my nose was off the first time I tried it, but whatever the case I am no longer having that issue. I see some compare this to Teint de Neige and Al Hariman's Junoon, and while it does remind me of both fragrances to a degree, this is much more delicate and softer, and the florals more pronounced. Don't get me wrong, I love both those fragrances, but one spray too many and you and the floral notes are buried under a pile of powder that can feel heavy and oppressive. This is much lighter and airier than that. A few sprays gave gorgeous silage that had me in powdery floral heaven all day. I am so glad I didn't get rid of this after all.

Hmmmmm... So, I get the similarity with Teint de Neige by Villoresi and Junoon by Al Haramain, that's for sure, Powder Flowers definitely have that familiar soapiness and powderiness in it... but it's also quite different at the same time. PF reminds me of a thick, white cream (maybe Nivea, but not completely like that), too. PF is also less sweet, although it's still kind of sweet at the same time. :) It's the woody element that prevents PF from becoming that pure talcum baby powder fragrance and makes it more of a creamy fragrance... but, it's still very powdery at the same time (hehe, I kind of feel conflicted about describing the perfume). :) Anyway, Powder Flowers is still a nice "treat" for powdery perfumes fans like me. :) This is the first impression only as I've been testing a sample so far, but I do I kind of like it. :) EDIT: I noticed something interesting with this perfume so I would like to add my new impression here. If you know that kind of creamy, soapy, first-stage opening Teint de Neige has, then that is basically how PF smells like. :) However, in the case of TdN, it continues to develop itself gradually to that sweet-sh, baby powder vanilla aroma, while PF remains in that first TdN thick-cream, soapy stage and doesn't really develop itself further, maybe it's because of the woods.

I blind bought this scent after being offered 2⁄3 off a bottle. I was nervous because originally intending to sample first due to some inconsistency in the reviews. Thankfully though, fortune favours the cheap and it was a win. I collect scents similar to the OG Ombre Rose. I always describe Ombre Rose as mostly pink with purple shadows; it would also have very pale, dove pink highlights. Giorgio Valenti Rose Noire the inverse but with the same highlights. Powder Flowers is those dove pink highlights, almost solely. It is this intensely high key version of the two of them merged, light, bright and innocent. The same way you lose detail when you blow out a photo, complexity is lost here. This is not a criticism. Powder Flowers is not meant to be a clone but riff on the same ideas. This is one direction those ideas could go. The only discordant element is this wine-like rose note at the opening which seems a little out of place, like jet jewellery on a white wedding dress. Overall, I love this. If you like baby powder scents and hyper feminine coded stuff, you will love this.

I've been longing to find a fragrance like this for many years. It smells very similar to Ciel by Ulric de Varens but with less musk, which is appreciated in summer with the heat, also because Ciel gives makes you sleepy because its musk is so nice and tender. This one, however, can be used in day time, and not only to be used on the pillow. I do not notice anything old in this fragrance, as others have pointed out, it does not look at all like Blanc Violette from Histories de parfums, which smells kind of old-fashioned. It smells like baby powder, it is very tender.It also has much sillage; three hours after spraying it, I rubbed my neck with my fingers and they got perfumed, which is something logical, asa it is far more expensive than Ciel; there should be some noticeable diference. If you are a fan of babypowder, you must try this sweet perfume.

If you like powdery floral scents with a hint of spice, then this is for you. It's one of my favourites, the silage is really strong and it has amazing staying power. I agree with the guest reviewer in that it too reminds me of a pomander. Rose is a funny note for me as well, I normally get a headache from rose perfumes. However, this was really powdery and soft, not a big rose bomb. I think the Tonka beans, Osmanthus and Jasmine make it less overpowering and more of a comforting and powdery floral. I do get the Cedar in the dry down, it alternates between this and the Tonka beans with soft powdery flowers. Truly a lovely fragrance

Totally agree with the other reviewers who have defined this fragrance as a powder bomb. It surely is, slightly baby powder with much more powder than flowers to start with. Once the powder starts to fade, then it settles into a soft powdery jasmine floral. I don't get the screeching chemicals, the monster sillage or the overwhelming suffocating effects that others have experienced. This is a very feminine, pretty fragrance with about 4-6 hours longevity, one you can wear during the day or before retiring in the evening. Nothing jarring or aggressive here.

I much prefer this to Teint to Neige edp which smells like almond x 1000 and completely obnoxious. I don't associate this powder with babies or baby products at all but instead, vintage vibes. The same people associating with baby powder in reviews are probably also the ones voting oud as fecal, anywhere and everywhere possible. How about being informed rather than opinionated? This is the boudoir powder of yesterday. Powder flowers is also gothic and sublime. Projection and longevity=beastmode. Thank you Pierre.

I can see the similarties of Teint de Neige, and if I had to chooce one of them, I would choise TdN, but this parfum is still one of the best powdery parfume IMHO. The best way to use it, layering it! If you have some parfums that not powdery at all, layer with Powder Flowers! It will be longer lasting and powderish. Back to the Powder Flowers, men really like the powdery, safety smell this parfum has, I use to get compliments, when I'm wearing it.

What a wonderful fragrance! I can't go on and on about how it smells like this or that, all I can say is that I am really enjoying this! I am a complete sucker for powdery classics and this fits right in. It's kinda hard to describe, powdery but not baby powder, sweet but not candy sweet. There may be some cheaper alternatives to this, but as for me, I'll stick to what works! Moderate sillage, and lasts and lasts on me.

I havent come across osmanthus before but from what I read, it could be that peachy note mixed with the rose that I detect when I first spray this. After an hour or so, this starts to become powdery retaining the floral notes and stays that way for another 8 hours or until I had washed it off. This is a lovely perfume and very longlasting but medium sillage at first and then becomes more of a skin scent.

this one is really powderbomb! One spritz enough to fill the room, clean baby-like ambient which like soft blanket covered your body. Floral note is subtle but detectable like the watercolor painting. Projection is good, about 1-2 feet for 4 hours, then close to the skin for next hours. Very recommended to all the powder lovers.

Hello everyone! I’m pretty sure to smell some iris in Powder Flowers from Montale, however i don’t see this note in the pyramid... Could it be a synthetic note making the « powder effect »? Or another ingredient or flower? Thank you for your answers! :))

If you love strong powder fragrances, this is one of two you HAVE to have in your collection. Men, who say they do not like women to wear perfume, give me multiple compliments through the night. Delicious!!

I don't see the resemblance to baby powder,you may be the subject of misleading because of the name given to this fragrance. I find it round and floral,done in a graceful way.

Think of a big blast of floral talcum powder or baby powder - a powder bomb. It lasts all day. As a floral lover I'm enjoying it.

Powder Flowers is a funny one. In the opening of Powder Flowers, the combination of rose, tonka, and osmanthus impart this sweetness that I attribute to lychee or the saccharine sensation of turkish delights. It's my favourite part of Powder Flowers' development which at this stage, allows potential in the heart notes. PF is full-bodied and womanly - it's entirely addictive for powder and floral lovers like myself. Powder Flowers being a Montale creation, I can detect a very sharp alcohol-like, chemical nuance in the beginning but this quickly fades by the 20 minute mark. The powder accord becomes more pronounced as it dries down. PF smells different on paper, on tissue, and on skin; like many good quality fragrances. My skin tends to bring out the sweet, fruity powdery aspect which I liken to the osmanthus and tonka bean. The heart notes reveal a waxy texture of sweet florals and the dryness of thick powder and tonka bean - all of which mix to smell semi-edible. The dry down of PF is mainly a musky, powdery skin scent that smells just like a fresh application of body lotion. PF lasts an extremely long time! 12 hours + if I must. I sprayed once on a piece of tissue and let it sit there for two weeks and I can detect the talcum-powder scent even after that fortnight! I have sometimes visited this Fragrantica page and found the descriptions quite inaccurate, or incomplete. I am perplexed as to where are the heliotrope? The iris? The lychee? Am I dreaming this all up or what?! Along with its chemical outburst in the beginning, Powder Flowers can be overwhelming and suffocating if sprayed too close to the nose. It really is intense and this may just be a warning for a first-time owner of a Montale full bottle like myself, so I suggest spraying with an extremely light hand somewhere you are not able to constantly smell PF - one spray can go far! Powder Flowers is a bit of a shape-shifter. It can veer towards saccharine turkish delight factory then do a 180 and come back home with its soft baby powder whisper. It is one for the 'acquired nose' to judge in its best merits. I recommend this to anyone who are into simple, sweet powdery florals, but are often disappointed by their lacking performance. Beware though, you will need to be game enough for its beastly sillage and longevity despite its charmingly feminine scent!!

Unsweetened loukhoum may sound like a contradiction in terms, I am well aware, but it dawned on me this evening that that is precisely what Montale POWDER FLOWERS smells like to me. Not artificially sweetened loukhoum, with sucralose or nutrasweet or saccharine or cyclamates--no, that would be repulsive. Nor even lightly sweetened, "low sugar" loukhoum. No, to my nose, POWDER FLOWERS is the result which one would achieve if sugar were omitted altogether from the recipe. Powdery, lightly flowery, with rose petals dusted with something pulverized and white but no sugar added whatsoever. I love this scent. It used to remind me of Charles Brosseau L'OMBRE ROSE, and I suppose that it still does vaguely during part of its life. The powdery aspect is very calming, and the composition is rich and airy at the same time. The alkaloid quality which makes loukhoum perfumes addictive to me is present here, but the super-sweetness is utterly absent. Tonka bean is listed among the notes of POWDER FLOWERS, but this is not sweet at all to my nose. I generally drink beverages such as coffee and tea without sugar. I may add cream to coffee or a stout Assam tea, but I would not add sugar. I may add lemon to certain varieties of tea, and especially when it is iced, but I do not add sugar. In this case, too, I find the powdery flowers (and, yes, this perfume is well named!) to be even more appealing without than with the sugar added. I have to be in a very particular mood to be able to wear a sweet loukhoum perfume, but POWDER FLOWERS is an all-occasion scent and one of the more feminine offerings from the house of Montale. There is no oud within three thousand miles of this perfume!

I absolutely love powdery fragrances, but sometimes they are too cloying, as talcum powder accidentaly puffed into your nose!!! I'm thinking about Teint de neige: I adore it, but just sprayed it make me sneeze! Tdn reminds me the skin of a baby, while Powder Flowers is the smell of a mother for me: tender yet refined, on my skin it's not baby powder, but a gently powdered rose, with a touch of osmanthus and jasmin and a vanillic drydown of tonka. The sillage and the staying power are terrific! And I'm very glad about it, because it make me feel well during all day... maybe because I'm pregnant, I think is the perfect scent for me right now :)

When I first spritzed this perfume I wasn't too thrilled. It smelled like a strong mix of flowers and powder, but after about 20 minutes, wow! It turned into this sweet, powdery, and clean scent that I absolutely adore! I've been getting compliments wearing it, and it sticks around for ages on both my skin and clothes. I like the bottle too, I can take keep it in my bag without fearing the bottle will break haha.

It's a powder bomb in the opening, and it smells like a Marks and Spencer perfumed powder. However, the drydown is definitely worth the wait. Truly intoxicating - a bed of sweet florals sprinkled with dense and creamy tonka bean. The drydown blooms after about an hour upon the initial spray, and it is what lingers throughout the day. Projection is beastmode, so better to apply sparingly.

This is a warm, sweet but beautifully dry powder perfume that starts out bombastic in the vein of Teint de Neige, but dries down to a gorgeous, grown up marzipan. After a long time - maybe 6-8 hours - it fades into a soft, powdery floral with prominent rose. Sillage is strong, longevity is excellent - lasts all day. Performs beautifully in warm weather!

Smells clean and delicate, almost neutral, good for office, non-intrusive and non-threatening. After a while smells only like baby powder, no more flowers. Not in itself a bad smell, but still, would have been nice the flowers to stay till the end of the party. Lasting 3-4 hours on skin, longer on clothes.

I have a very nice body oil from Dauget. On me Powder Flowers has almost the same 'dry flower bouquet' scent with same (low-medium) sillage and lasting power. I like this scent but I don't think I will ever buy a full bottle, because I can buy this oil for less money.

I love to use it in autumn days. Performance and silage are enough in my opinion. It's mostly compared to teint de neige, but I think powder flowers is a more floral fragrance.

This was surprisingly animalic on my skin. Really rather lovely and quite a surprised, as I hated the top notes (playdohy and powder). 7.5/10

this one smells like flower-marzipan on my skin :) other times it smells like play-dough or fragranced children's eraser :)

If you like baby powder, you’ll love this one.

I bought a bottle two years ago. This was the only perfume I had ever wanted to scrub off. It smelt straight up like camphor and hair relaxer or perm. It was awful. In comparison, Teint de Neige, Iris by L'erbolario, and Elizabeth Arden Red Door are my favorite powdery scents. I love lathering myself in baby lotion - I can never smell too powdery. Two years later...I've tried it again and it's amazing. It's much sweeter and denser, it's the closest perfume I've found to replicate the OG Johnson baby powder scent. It's baby powder on steroids. I'm so happy with my bottle now. Perfumes are subjective, to me, I pick up baby powder, to others it will smell different. A difference in opinion does not make a review ill-informed or wrong. I love oud and I detect baby powder in this perfume - there's absolutely no reason why a person cannot enjoy both scent profiles. Anyway... It's super strong and lasts until it's washed off - over half a day for sure and projects like a beast. Everyone will smell you. It's not a replacement for TDN for me, as they have different profiles and I'd reach for them in different occasions. Just to note - I believe the metal bottles that Montale is using are interfering with the fragrances. All the scents I have bought from them have smelt awfully metallic and alcohlic initially. They usually settle a year or two down the line. I don't have this issue with Mancera or any Montale samples I buy as those come in glass bottles.

Immediate blast of baby powder straight to my nostrils. Shocked me a bit. This reminds me of all things baby. Baby powder, baby wipes, diapers, baby wash, etc. if you have baby fever don’t even think about getting this fragrance because you’ll just be digging your grave. Lol

This smells like straight-up baby powder to my nose.

I just bought a bottle of Rose Poudre by Bottega Profumiera and Powder Flowers smells just like it but some horrid chemicals got dumped into the bottle. I don't know what it is w/ Montale fragrances. I've only tried 2 others, but they all have the same chemical smell that is so off putting. Thank God I didn't blind buy this and I blind bought Rose Poudre instead. In short this smells like chemical/poison rose powder. Edit: 8/1/22 I'm revisiting Powder Flowers again and comparing it side by side to a really nice cheapie Rose Noire and I have to say Rose Noire beats Powder Flowers hands down for me and Giorgio Valentini Rose Noire cost $10. Powder Flowers is a lot more. Rose Noire is a nice dry rose and iris powder scent, very dry but an excellent true non sweet floral powder. Powder Flowers is still a chemical mess, for me anyway. It is a shame because I can sense a good perfume underneath the chemical smell, but I just can't get past the chemical smell.

This is terrible on me, all I get from the start is a huge cloying mess of tonka bean, cedar and osmanthus. It is extremely sweet, powdery and unfortunately terrible for me as it induces headache. It has a monster silage and it lasts all day (unfortunately for me). Give this a try if you love tonka bean as it clearly dominates "the parade" and overpowers every other note. As for me - totally not working.

I bought it based on what some said it similar to Lorenzo but I don't find any similarity between them, the powder is not as nice as it is in Lorenzo's perfume, it reminds me of the smell of pampers only

powdery, white musky-rose. it's like a more rosy, bombastic version of l'ombre rose with a chemical undertone. not terrible but not for me.

Unfortunately on my skin it is overwhelmingly just baby powdery. I am glad I got the sample before committing.

Like some have said, the scent of over-perfumed baby products.

Is my bottle bad? The opening is a horror show, strange unpleasant chemical aroma which I couldn’t even liken to anything. eventually dries down to a faint baby powder but I’m not getting what everyone else is getting. Zero sweetness , minimal projection or longevity. ( I got it from notino?? I’m so confused. I love powdery fragrances but this is bizarre can only think it’s a bad bottle 🤔

Given the launch year of 2005 it came as no surprise to me when I realized I have smelled this scent profile many times before, namely - in my mother's foot cream. As much as I love tonka beans and powdery fragrances in general, I can't unsmell or rather unsee the image of my mom putting on thick slab of cream on her cracked heels whenever I sprayed it.

Gosh is this pungent! I love powdery notes, I live and dream iris and violet, so I thought this would be perfect for me. The first spray was such a surprise, in the bad sense. It had an almost plastic file smell and taste, and a weird imbalanced aspect. Then after the initial surprise, and frank disappointment, and being mad at myself for believe I’d like any type of powder, I started to get used to it. It became a skin scent within a couple of hours, but longevity was better upon reapplying. On my clothes, it smelled better the next day. My wool jumper had a gentle, enveloping powdery smell and it was a pleasure to put it on the next day. This is definitely a powder bomb, and I bought it blind but it was very surprising. I have been wearing it a few times since I got it 2 weeks ago, and I am getting more and more used to it, to the point that I like it now. The element of surprise has subsided, I know what to expect, and I do like the powder. However I wouldn’t wear this on it’s own. It’s great as layering to reinforce other powdery scent that could otherwise have poor longevity. For example I layer it with Iris de Syracuse of Boucheron which is by contrast a delightful, delicate, highly sophisticated scent and it makes it last a bit longer. I do salute the courage of the creator to edit perfumes like this, as being surprised is not a bad thing. I appreciate being surprised and I appreciate this contemporary, very show off, loud, almost vulgar, essay, about powder. I didn’t think I could get enough of powder but it turns out, yes I could. This is powder turned to the maximum volume, and I have satiated my need for powder thanks to this perfume. This is so far a positive experience, and what I am looking for in a perfume, to be surprised and to feel an emotion. I will keep wearing this, over the next couple of years I expect the juice to better macerate and perhaps to change. It’s a « smell » not a « scent » if you get the difference.

No false advertising here. What you read is what you get: "POWDER FLOWERS." (They ain't lyin') This scent required me to have ALOT of patience! Unless you like straight up beast mode baby powder for the first 5 hours, I'd put the bottle down. Hehe. The first hour reminded me of a Grandma's bathroom. Think talcum powder, rose and something astringent reminiscent of chemical cleaner. I've never felt the urge to scrub a fragrance off before. I'm pretty hard to shock when it comes to fragrances... I'll wear anything, but this one I was tempted. Not because it smells bad, but because it was a baby powder sillage monster and I was afraid I'd smell like a public restroom at work. All that being said... It eventually dried down to something quite beautiful after about 5-6 hours. A younger, Louder, more rough around the edges sister to Narciso Poudre. I cannot fault the silage or longevity of this stuff at all. I would definitely suffer the long dry down to be able to wear something that lasts all day without needing re application. Would be fantastic and "boudoir-y"on the right skin chemistry... Just probably not mine :)

How could such beautiful flowers go so wrong? Rose, jasmine, osmanthus... Technically, NO ONE should be able to mess up these notes. And why tonka???? Utter ruination of what could've been delightful. Initial burst is rather pleasing delivering the promised powder. The rest spirals towards headache, nausea and a mad rush towards the wash basin. Massive sillage, but lasting power mediocre, thank God! The house of Montale is consistently disappointing me these days with its lack of inspiration. No more Montales for me, especially blind buys. And I'm still nursing that headache. Rose, jasmine and Oudh seekers, knock at the door of MANCERA. You won't be sorry.

Well you know if its powdery I am going to just love it! When I first sprayed it and came down the stairs my husband said did you just put baby powder on? Yes I agree at first that is what I get but it transitions from a baby rather quickly to an adolescent with its sweetness which I attributle to the tonka. Now as it dries down its reaches adulthood with the balmyness of rose and jasmine. Its rather rich and creamy at this stage!!!! I was lucky to receive this beauty through a swap from a wonderful person here on Fragrantica. If I hadn't I most definitely would have purchased it on my own.

Baby powder and jasmine. Powder Flowers is all aldehydes at first, which encourages me. I'm a big fan of aldehydes. Unfortunately, and this may just be me, it never develops much personality. I get hours of powder and a little bit of jasmine. It does (like many powdery scents) have insane sillage and lasting power. Really, it's almost too much -I don't want to be smelled from across the room. I'd recommend Chanel no.22 instead - it has many of the same notes, but the addition of incense gives the scent more depth.

I wanted to blind buy this since I love powdery scents. I got only a carded sample in the end. After applying on my skin, it smelled beautifully and I was in love. But then, in about 10 - 15 minutes, powdery and floral notes were gone and a quite unpleasant chemical play dough smell was all there was. And it had a decent longevity which unfortunately didn't make me very happy. I really wanted this to be a real floral powder bomb, but I was disappointed. Glad that I only got a sample.

Powder Flowers is the little sister of Teint de Neige, but it's not as overwhelming and cloying as that one. Opens with floral notes - mainly rose, then warms up on the skin, and becomes softer and powdery. There's a slight underlying bitterness, maybe because of the smokey cedar, that prevents it being a banal, sweet baby powder scent. The drydown is a warm, powdery vanilla, cuddly, classy, comforting. It's a perfect enveloping, soft cozy fragrance for cold weather.

I am not sure what others see in this perfume .. To me Powdery flowers smells like an updated version of Calvin Klein's Eternity for women . Extremely powdery , chalky like talcum powder and slightly soapy. Flowers with musk in a cloud of powder .. Intensive and kind of out of the shower smell. Not really my kind of perfume.. I really dislike the bottle , cheap aluminum bottle , reminds me of hairspray .. Good lasting power and close to skin silage.

Get past the initial hairspray blast and you will get a really dense powdery perfume. I personally love this in my powdery era. I could have easily put an iris note in there, less rose, very boudoir make up bag. Love it! Definitely leans vintage and I can imagine people will say it smells like grandma. But hot damn is grandma FABULOUS!

The nose designed the right name for this fragrance. It's really all about powder here. In a tender, cozy, comforting and feminine way. If you are a powder flower yourself, than this should be on your shelf. If you are looking for more flowers than powder, you better pass this one. I like it, but won't purchase it.
