Sandflowers

It’s really hard for me to understand why some people sound so offended by this, lol! Maybe a bad bottle? I’ve found Sandflowers to be an INCREDIBLY easy wear; fresh, interesting enough, and not overbearing (as some complain about Montale/Mancera). It is 100% the least perfumey perfume I’ve ever smelled... as in, it’s the most believable “this is just how good I smell” type scent. This might be your perfect “my skin but better” scent if you love nature or your spirit animal or soulmate is a mer-person. Plus, the realistic marine accord layers with everything I’ve tried so far and really enhances the performance of other scents! Try it with a vanillic gourmand and tell me I’m wrong! OBSESSED. There’s nothing spicy, sharp, floral, fruity, animalistic, overly vegetal, or “cooked.” It’s just airy, comforting, and guaranteed to trigger some ancient olfactory memories of kites and sandcastles. It’s how you hope you smell after swimming in the sea and air drying in the sun on a perfect day. It’s no saltier than Olympea (though Olympea has a lot more going on), less mossy than BR540, less juniper than Gentle Fluidity Gold, and maybe the same level of sandalwood as you’d find in Crystal Noir or Gris Charnel (but less than Vintage Radio). I find it exceptionally well balanced. Instant chakra aligner, lol! If you like clean “resort” or “spa” scents you’ll probably love this. This is like Musamam White’s less fruity or perfumey cousin from the Pacific NW. This is Wood Sage & Sea Salt if the soapy note was replaced with a literal fresh breeze. This is the exact feeling you get when you’ve been driving for hours to the beach, finally get out of the car, and take your first huge breath of sea spray and drying grasses on herby sand dunes bordering the forest. This one takes you there.

This perfume will forever remind me of Sardegna and my lovely host that wore Sandflowers as her signature perfume. Such a realistic interpretation of the vibe of that chic Mediterranean island, chilled, fresh, aromatic, salty sea breeze mixed with a creamy, smooth sandalwood and earthy, mossy accents. To me, it’s the perfect combination of notes that creates a refreshing, relaxing experience, almost like being in a spa. From what I’ve seen, it’s one of Montale’s lowest rated perfumes here and one of the most looked over by anyone on social media channels. Me, personally, I haven’t seen or heard anyone mentioning Sandflowers when they reviewed the house of Montale and it was my wonderful Italian host who introduced me to it after smelling it on her on several occasions, during a trip in the North of the island, last fall. It completely fell off my mind until today when I wore Salina by LO, which is another awesome aquatic, salty, marine, mineral fragrance that is somewhat similar to Sandflowers. I remembered instantly of her and Sandflowers and I am going to purchase a bottle for myself. It’s your typical gender neutral, summer time, easy reach perfume, with Montale’s usual performance and low prices. I am less than a quarter with my bottle of Salina and Sandflowers is cheaper, easily available for purchasing and longer lasting. It’s also less floral than Salina, even though judging by the name you’d expect the opposite, but will serve the same occasions and it has a meaningful, nostalgic value for me personally! For those who love this fresh, aromatic, salty, mossy, marine inspired perfume, I would highly recommend getting your nose on Sandflowers. It’s so slept on that’s unbelievable!!!

SO glad I bought this! It was a blind buy due to seeing a 100ml bottle for a really good price that I didn’t want to miss out on. I was apprehensive as to whether I’d like it based on reviews.. it seems to be quite polarising, but thankfully it’s a hit with me! A unique & interesting unisex fragrance for my collection. Firstly I can really see similarities between this & womanity, also hints of CK2 too (which is one of my fav fragrances & discontinued so happy to have this in my collection now). This & CK2 both have hard to pin notes I feel. They both have an outdoorsy & ozonic feel to them that’s not your every day scent profile - definitely together in the unusual scent family. As per some reviews, it does have a medicinal, iodine, metallic touch at the beginning but weirdly I don’t actually mind this. It’s also very cool, aquatic & minerally. It’s versatile so I actually think this could be worn all year round, because for me it doesn’t necessarily evoke being on a hot beach. It just makes me think of fresh, overcast (even rainy) afternoons. I’m very glad I got this & that this blind buy was successful on this occasion. That being said this definitely is not a safe blind buy because of how outside of the box this is. Edit: weirdly this stings/burns my skin on my neck when I spray 🤔

Thankfully this smells nothing at all like Womanity to my nose. Whereas Womanity has a sense of being 'wet' (over-ripe juicy figs, milky fig sap, salt water and caviar), Sandflowers to my nose has a sense of being 'dry'. That is, I pick up a sense of ocean salt air, dry sun-warmed sand, and dry woods. There is a sort of fruitiness about it, but I'm guessing this comes from the juniper berries and I don't find it too sweet at all (unlike Womanity's over-ripe sweetness). I've never smelt Aqua Motu so I'm unable to compare its likeness. I actually find Sandflowers a little similar to 4711's Acqua Colonia Intense Sunny Seaside of Zanzibar. While they don't share many notes at all, I do get a sense of watermelon from the Montale that doesn't seem to be reflected in its notes. It's definitely 'beachy', but not at all like sunscreen or tanning oil that I would usually associate with a beach type smell. I've been exploring more and more of Montale's creations and each time (so far) I have been very pleasantly surprised. As others have said it's not very 'Montale' like, but I do seem to get good performance from this.

I’ve been into Montale lately and this one really surprised me. It is a fresh and salty, slightly sweet great scent for summer. If you like marine scents but, don’t like a fishy sea weed smell, this may b worth a try. The opening is like a fresh juniper breeze that quickly moves into an ocean scent. Living in CA, this is what I smell when I go to the beach- the salty ocean air, some hints of juniper in the distance, sun-kissed sand and skin. To me it is a lighter and more youthful Profumum Aqua di sale. It is similar to Armani Bleu Turquoise without the heady vanilla, and density. Of these three, Sandflowers may b the most versatile and the least expensive. Moderate performer for a Montale, superior performer for most summer marine scents. Super interesting, unique and an instant love.

Il mio profumo per eccellenza. Un profumo che sento così bene su di me che me ne frego della sua spiccata stagionalità e lo metto anche in inverno, anche di sera. Perfettamente bilanciato tra salino, ozonico e marino, nessuna nota è fuori posto. Simile ad Acqua di Sale, Aqua Motu, Hyle e altri, è vero, ma al contempo così diverso e particolare. Inoltre è assai persistente, aldilà del suo essere eau de parfum, e dopo anni la gente, anche chi mi conosce, ancora si gira e mi chiede che profumo indosso.

I checked the lot number and it is absolutely original. therefore, it is undeniable that the perfume is part of the rem family, salt water and derivatives, but it has something more of a shell smell, surely it will be due to the touch of oak moss which also makes it a little old-fashioned. ..and an excellent juniper... in large doses it could give headaches. performance not like all the Montales but right to be a marine. Rating 8/10

Marine notes always remember me of aqua motu by comptoir de sud pacifique and when they get really loud then I recall Rem by Reminescence. The watery notes are evident is Sandflowers, but I like the softness given to it. I agree with adele l ''Smells of warm sand only cleaner -almost sunny. Not entirely sure if it's really something I'd wear often though. Beachy without the sweets and coconut.''

This is my favorite perfume of all time. To me, this is a much more wearable mineral/aquatic perfume than everything else out there (Ganymede etc). In me eyes and heart, this is the feminine counterpart to Tom Ford's Oud Minerale. I am heartbroken that this scent is discontinued. I will cherish my bottle and only use her on special occasions.

To Vaidilé: I cannot add anything to your words. Your description is perfect. The only thing I can say is that this was a blind buy and instant love. It does not exactly smell like I imagined it but it was like I have known and loved this scent. Man, I am going to have to buy the full bottle now... :-D

If you loved Womanity, you will love this! They share the same dna. Less overpowering than Womanity, same salty alluring watery feeling. This has some warmth to it after the opening that Womanity does not have. It’s an otherworldy salty oceanic fragrance. It’s a love for me. And I love Montale!

I Really love it. But i bought it on line and performance are incredible low and the parfum packaging was in cellophane. it gives me a burning sensation on my skin. fortunately without consequences. I Think is fake. I am sas Because the scent is Very Good.

The strong medicinal opening reminded me of Zara Coastal Salty Forest, which made me a bit disappointed. When i wore it for the first time, 3 hours after i sprayed, i had someone say "sorry to ask but are you wearing sunscreen or something.. you smell like the beach" ..it was so funny and i couldn't believe it! The climate here is hot and humid and i sweat a lot. And i go nose blind to it after the first 5 minutes and i really thought it was gone by the 3rd hour.. So, you can expect longevity and sillage. As for the scent itself, apart from the aquatic notes, there's a warm depth to it, something slightly spicy like cinnamon that gives it the idea of warm sand, which is what sets it apart from simply being an aquatic freshie. I have to admit though, it gave me that burning skin feeling for a while and felt discomfort. No reddening of the skin or irritation.. just that burning sensation..

Its strange how my skin turns dry and cool fragrances into something sweet. It is soo sweet on me, I love it. I can feel menthol within.. Update in 07/2023: Wow I didn't remember I have commented on this 10 years ago😄. I have found an old sample and was checking the reviews, because it is still amazing on my skin. Now thinking to get a full bottle.. My nose is definitely more refined since then and I can pick up more nuances now and it is still quite sweet. I know none of the notes I experience are listed above but on my skin it is a refreshing minty cucumber lemonade with cinnamone and honey. I usually don't like cucumber, but now is summer so probably this is why I enjoy it more. A very interesting all year around type of scent.

ancora profumo di mare. ancora, sì, perchè questo profumo ricorda altri accordi marini assai noti (aqua motu, una serie di vari rem, fiore dell'onda etc etc) che connettono il naso con le sensazioni provate su una spiaggia: la salsedine, l'acqua, le alghe, i solari... a differenza dei citati profumi, però, questo è più aromatico, probabilmente per la presenza del ginepro, che rende il fondo più persistente e più "montaliano". mentre gli altri profumi di vacanza svaniscono in un soffio di brezza marina, questo, essendo peraltro un edp, rimane a lungo sulla pelle, perde le note muschiate (per mia fortuna) assestandosi su un fondo decisamente maschile. molto buono per la calura estiva.

I purchased a decant to try it out since I enjoy sea and watery ozonic notes. This one is salty, watery, and uplifting. It smells like a shore breeze. No sweetness, no fruity vibes. If you like armani prive bleu turquoise and want something without the heavy vanilla and more simplistic and fresh, give this one a try. However you might feel like you just went to the beach and did not take a shower afterwards. Because it literally smells like the salty ocean or sea. The opening smells like shower gel and turns into salty sea I mentioned above in 10 minutes or so. The longevity is average(5-6 hours) the projection is solid for about 2 hours.

Il profumo si apre con un'insolita nota di alcool, che svanisce quasi subito lasciando spazio al "profumo di mare". Non evoca però un'immersione tra le acque salate, quanto piuttosto la spiaggia poco distante: la sabbia in particolare (è la prima cosa che ho pensato annusandolo), ma anche i piccoli arbusti di rovi, e il profumo del mare portato dal vento. Su di me è molto leggero, secco ed estivo. L'ho trovato semplice e piacevole, adatto a un uso giornaliero.

The Womanity thing lasts for just a couple minutes. Then it turns too warm too quickly and doesn't remind me at all of sand nor sea. No love here. Edit: Gave it another shot on a warm (not hot), breezy day and this was actually pleasant to wear. Very airy and soft. It did remind me of the sea in its own way but I think it fits spring weather better. For summer this isn't really fresh enough, for me at least. Still no love, but an acquired like.

I'm just going to have to buy a full bottle of this. I've tried so many samples that my nose needs a long vacation!! And FINALLY found something (Sandflowers) that is fresh smelling in the steamy summertime that I don't have to keep reapplying every two hours! On my skin, to my nose, this is a very light cantaloupe husband likes it too, and he gets watermelons. Go figure.

Salty and almost citrussy, herbal freshness. As someone else here said, it's not even like you're wearing a perfume, it's just like you smell that good naturally + you came from the beach. The performance is very variable though, first time I tried it it lasted for 6+ hours, and the second time I wore it I couldn't smell it after 1.

Sand, sea spray, sand dollars and refreshing shore breeze on a cool yet sunny day at the beach. A slight melon note persists from beginning to end with a dull, minty edge. A literal interpretation of a beach scent, simple and enjoyable. Try this and smell like you've been at the beach all day without even stepping outside.

I feel firstly something that reminds me of an aoud wood with a shoe polish accent. It's too strange, because aoud isn't mentioned here. Then come some flowers, dissolved in water. The fragrance will be very nice if there weren't that aoud-shoe-polish accent, it's too dominating. May be it's not aoud, it's sandalwood.

Great unisex summer scent! If you want to go the much cheaper route I suggest you try Rem by Reminiscence. I have 'em both and really can't tell any differences.

Banger for summer, beach and gym

Main accord is similar to Aqua Motu but Aqua Motu is far superior, Sandflowers is just salt, sand and some unrelated ending which I assume might be the juniper berries.. What do they smell like, who cares, what have they got to do with the beach? Who can relate to juniper berries, hello? They add nothing and give an ugly, weird full stop... Aqua Motu has a whiff of melon or cucumber but it ties into the beach thing in that it's not obvious melon, aqua motu is more ozonic, more sand, more salty, touch of generic sunscreen but it doesn't scream beach, it could just be that you got back from a beach vacay and all your clothes smell clean and beachy in an outdoors nature not people kinda way, the sillage and longevity of aqua motu is lame but I found the same for sandflowers despite being edp and despite other reviewers saying sandflowers lasts better... REM is also far more layered and intriguing than Sandflowers. Hoping aqua motu intense might sort things out

Aquatic, greenish, and spicy notes combine to smell exactly like cucumber slices sprinkled with cinnamon, quite the odd combination. That’s it. Cucumber and cinnamon. This bizarre gourmand note lasts for an hour or two, after which the scent degenerates into generic aquatic sillage with the cinnamon-cucumber mix still clinging close to the skin for a couple more hours. After that, it remains just a mild aquatic-cucumber skin scent for over 12 hours. Given that I generally dislike aquatic scents, this is not for me.

Another unfortunate blind buy for me, yet my brother got a pretty nice gift. The scent is definately cool and clean, but for me it is in a way medically (or scientifically, space-y, not alive) clean, I got some unnatural, metallic, iodine or something like that note which did not fade away with time, making me uncomfortable. Thought he scent is not overwhelming, that uncomfortable feeling made me to give it away. Anyways, it is a unique scent, and I am glad so many enjoy it.

Sea and sand, you say. Well, sea it's certainly not, although the opening really smells like iodine. As for sand, I can see that. But to me Sandflowers smells like peppermint toothpaste and concrete, vaguely salty. Now and then I catch pleasant whiffs, but most of the time it's just utterly bizarre. Still trying to grasp the idea.

I just tried my sample of Sandflowers and I swear, all I got was beach water, seaweed, freshly collected sea shells and sanddollars. Not really what I desire as my personal aroma. My friend said I had a fresh out-doorsy smell. The name is appropriate. It really lasts. I'd be interested to find out how this translates on a man.

I also found it similar to CSP Aqua Motu quite a lot. However i prefer Aqua Motu as Sandflowers is more light and airy, and didnt give me the same salty vibe Aqua Motu did. Very light but lasting scent though. It can be worth to buy a bottle if prices go down below 50 euros for this. Otherwise should not be bothered with!

A wispy breeze across salty, sunburnt skin with a tinge of sunscreen, sitting on a hot, white sandy beach.

So soft and summer breezy! Very nice, but too weak for me.

i really do not know how people could smell this without iching their face... Trust me i'm not the kind of guy who dislikes fragrances as a hobby but my gosh this is terrible, it smells like a dirty acquarium, VERY VERY SALTY ! and the oakmoss covers everything you can't literally smell anything other than salt and oakmoss really blended terribly. I do not smell any sandalwood it's as salty as it can. Reminds the imagine of a plate of spinach that has been out of fridge for too much time plus plenty of salt like two spoons of salt for every mouthfull. Disgusting if you like this get a doctor, really 3/10. P.S i would rather not have any fragrance than this.

Blind buy.Such waist of money.The worst buy ever.Similar to Aqua Moutu .This is more expensive but 10 times worst,No longevity,no sillage at all. I have a proof that Montale is no worth penny.Mancera is better ,less chemical then Montale..Never again

Montale SANDFLOWERS evokes immediate memories of Comptoir Sud Pacifique AQUA MOTU. Something about the algae and the sea water. In waves, SANDFLOWERS has a strange oriental vibe to go with the muskiness. AQUA MOTU is even muskier and perhaps more musky than aquatic. The biggest difference between the two is the juniper in SANDFLOWERS, which is quite marked especially the opening, making this creation seem rather aromatic and the algae very mossy and green. My understanding is that Pierre Montale was formerly associated with Comptoir Sud Pacifique, I presume as the perfumer. The similarity between SANDFLOWERS and AQUA MOTU may not therefore be my imagination! The bottles are similar, except that the Montale version of the aluminum can ends up looking sleek and niche, while the Comptoir Sud Pacifique version imparts the decided impression of being some kind of budget drugstore body spray. Is it just the trinket on the Montale that makes the difference? I don't know exactly why, but I really like the Montale bottles and really dislike the Comptoir Sud Pacifique bottles. I am not much for aquatic fragrances, so SANDFLOWERS is not really my kind of thing, but anyone who likes AQUA MOTU is bound to like this composition, which is unisex and even leaning a bit toward the masculine side. I consider this to be an atypical perfume for Montale. It seems more like a vacation scent to me. Maybe it should be called SAND DOLLARS?

I've had my eye on Sandflowers for around 5 years... after getting Rem (due to cost factor), I ignored it until it hit my radar again. Well, I finally pulled the trigger - I can confirm that Sandflowers is a higher quality version of Rem (blue 90s bottle) without any milky sweetness. There is a sweetness to Sandflowers, but it's in the form of an herbal sweetness note not listed. Unusually, Sandflowers stings my skin 20-30 minutes after wear. Rem stings almost immediately, but Sandflowers works itself up to sting my skin so I must spray it on clothes. All in all, I'd say go for Rem and if you like it, Sandflowers could be a higher quality version for you.

What a nice almost blue almost green humid freshie! I get more cypress than juniper notes from it, there's not really that bitter and deeply aromatic spiciness to it that juniper can have but rather a crispy spiciness like cypress. Together with the sea notes and oakmoss it becomes a mellow and humid mix with a juicy cucumber feel. Maybe it's because of the name, but I imagine a cloudy limestone seacoast with lots of small succulents and salty waves crashing onto the stone. Would definitely appreciate this on someone as a daily freshie, probably more for summer. Unisex. Does not seem to have enormous sillage.

My bottle smells like rubbing alcohol and cinnamyl alcohol for the first fifteen seconds, then an iodine note emerges, with a rich saltiness on its heels, and that saltiness persists for the duration, which is an ethereal (not in-your-face) day's worth. Want to smell like you spent the day on a speed boat with ocean spray hitting your body nonstop? Sandflowers. It smells like salt water. No sweetness. No flowers. (Well, technically the sandiness is partially created by clever use of immortelle, but anyway . . . ) End of story. Good stuff, especially if you're an aquatic lover.

A friend at work wouldn’t stop obsessing over my smell. I had to come clean with what I was wearing. He told me that it took him back to roaming the beach when he was younger...swimming in the ocean and wearing sunscreen. Like one reviewer stated below. I’m too perplexed that there’s so much dislike for Sandflowers. Probably the iodine smell that comes with the salty ocean. Maybe it’s just too authentic smelling for some. I personally enjoy it a great deal! Nothing but vintage summer vibes!

Finally found what I've been looking for in womanity but without the fig and strawberry this is a loud surf and beach fragrance which delivers salt and sun without any coconut or sunscreen cliches. Surprising for montale but it comes off well. Lasts very long and I smell it all day and turns into a nutty sandalwood though the saline wafts never totally fade. Refreshing and breezy very different but wearable. Creed imperial with no fruit.

It reminds me of "Motu" from l'Artisan Parfumeur but with a sweeter accent. I find it very pleasant in summer, especially in the cool evenings, and kind of sexy (especially on a man!) unfortunately it's not very lasting on my skin even if it's an Eau de Parfum...... but it's worth the buy!

Wonderful! Grey sand on a tourist free shore of the Atlanic or Irish Sea. Warm weather with a comforting breeze coming in from the open water. Partly cloudy day paired with a good mood to create some memorable, quality time. Perfection also in terms of performance! Bravo Montale!

The seawater is the first note and it smells a little articial but also like salty dried seaweed. If not for the chemical artificialness, it would be fresh - similar to Issey. Eventually the sandalwood warms it up but too little to late in my opinion.

Very realistic and atmospheric smell of a seaweed, sea water and iodine. This is a great scent for aromatherapy, meditation and privacy. Could be fantastic for SpaSalon treatments

Salty liquorice and leather boots. Very interesting salty, bitter and suedey smell.

Wow surprisingly similar to Womanity! but with anise.
