So Flowers

I'm surprised with how well my chemistry reacts to this fragrance, considering what I read from other reviews, and the fact that most fragrances from this house (and it's sister company, Mancera) rarely ever work out for me. This one is nice. I do get the crispness from hyacinth, but it almost starts to take on a scent of violets, you know that fruity, sweet tarts candy vibe that presents itself in fruity violet accords? That same quality is in here, but it's also paired with a white musk, probably lending even more to the grape fruitiness, and the ylang ylang which takes on a tropical creaminess of sorts. This fragrance doesn't know if it wants to take me to the seaside, a green meadow, or the candy store. But I find that intriguing, and if nothing else unique. I'll have to contemplate if I want any more of this, I think I'd be happy with a small decant but if I can't find one, I might have to say goodbye, but I'll enjoy the experience I had with this one, meanwhile it gave me a glimmer of hope for the house of Montale that there might be one out there I can love, someday.

This was the first Montale I have sampled. Thank you, Kterhark, for introducing me to this scent and the Montale line. Upon first sniff, I thought: this is what Kenzo Flower wanted to be but never achieved. So Flowers is a beautiful, traditional floral with a hint of leaf and vine. It smells like a vase of fresh flowers and greens with just a a touch of "shampoo" aroma (probably the musk). I get a lot of hyacinth in this one, more than any other single floral note. The other blossoms come across as a lovely non-distinct bouquet. I haven't tried the oudh-based Montales, though I can imagine how So Flowers might seem out of character with the rest of the line. Judged on its own merits, it's a great true floral, complex and well-blended, and unsweetened by fruit or caramel or vanilla. Quality scents in this category are getting harder and harder to find. So Flowers has good sillage and decent longevity, and is worth a try if you enjoy florals. It's not especially original, and may not be the best in the Montale line, but it's so nicely done anyway!

What a humdinger! This is a hurricane in a florist. There are wildflower Meadows wishing they smelled like this. There is a strong talcum powder aspect to the scent which might be too retro or mature for some. At first it's a mishmash of notes but given time I can start to separate them out. Not a scent for minimalists. This is not a sweet floral, no fruit, cream or patchouli that I can detect that are so popular now, which adds to the retro vibe

Hey-hey-hey, who are you, and what happened to Pierre? Let's pinpoint- it is not a Montale! For those who are shakeing from the line's aoud dominant scents - it is a good news!! For the first 15 mins this juice is closer to 'Love in Paris' than to any other Montale. What my nose snoops around is hyacinth and some jasmine, I can't find the sweetness of ylang-ylang, or the viridity of rose. It is almost a green floral. Weird from the master, isn't is? But the longevity is pretty good, and after two hours the uproarious scene of flowers sobers down into a pleasant, well-balanced but not too special scent.

So Flowers is a rancid mess on me! Ends up like sickly sweet rotting flowers on me and reminds me of neglected graveyards. Most florals and I get on marvelously. Not this one. Test it before you buy it. Not for everyone. Obviously, it's a hit with many reviewers. Enjoy it!
