Vetiver Des Sables

My first tester from Montale. Very interesting take on vetiver: mixed with sea/"salty" notes! I like vetiver scents and I also enjoy this one very much. It is very manly too. It has certain metallic notes or feel so it "reminds" me an old metal shipwreck in the seashore although I've never been near one, I've only seen photos and documentaries about them. Strange but it looks like I haven't sniffed my hand so often with any other scent... Remarkable creation and piece of art!

very beautiful. i'm sure that there's more than only two notes as was given here. the only one vetiver that I like is Prada's. but Montale's vetiver is even better! love it.

I do not smell vetiver in Vetiver Des Sables. I do smell lots of spices and wood, which should be the main notes. Perfect for the Fall. It's very long lasting on me.

This is one of the more unique Montale releases and in fact, somewhat unique among all of the fragrances I've smelled. It's smells like wet grass and hay, along with some dark wood and spices. It makes me think of walking through a country field on a gloomy day after it's been raining for a day or two.

Ugh, smells like vetiver covered in cumin, tumeric and curry all served on a mahogany slab. My nose is just not accustomed to these notes, it's too eastern and laden with food spices for my taste. Go for it if you like woods with heavy indian spice. The good news, it's a projection and sillage beast with great longevity and the vetiver note is well done. Score 4/10

PASS! The very first review of this is spot on! This is a mahogany mess with a hint of vetiver. Longevity and sillage are good by the smell is less than pleasant. It has a chemical smell to it like a plastics factory. Maybe it's the mahogany. Add the expensive price tag and you have a definite pass.

An extremely synthetic, harsh marine accord made this almost unbearable to me the first few times I wore it, and I had to scrub it off, but I'm willing to give it another try. There is something interesting about the salty vetiver thing going on here, but I would have to be in the mood for it.

A vetiver disaster! A generic, derivative and undefined fresh composition of absolutely no interest. Hints of vetiver on a loud mahogany base. Vetiver Des Sables moves in a very crowded territory without the ability to stand out. Unneeded. Rating: 4.5/10

This. Is. So. Unpleasant. OMG. I never usually run to the bathroom to scrub perfumes off, but I had to do that with this one. I spritzed this on with an open mind, and boy do I regret it! This is the most discusting combination of sea notes and spices I've ever come across. It might be my skin chemistry, and not the actual scent - but no matter what's the reason for the stink, it stinks! I don't know how to describe it... It smells like a curry that's been left out of the fridge too long mixed with stale sea water.It has that old school 80's cologne scent mixed with something burnt and the unpleasant smell of your sweat after a very spicy meal. It smells like a seasick bottle of Old Spice. Enormous sillage, and probably monster longevity (it is a Montale after all) - but I'll never find out, because I had to rub it off. And even now, after rubbing like crazy under hot water, with lots of scented soap, I can still smell the bastard - faintly. Again: OMG!

Let’s get one thing out of the way: this is not a vetiver fragrance. Sure, it perhaps does contain a smidgen of vetiver, but so does at least 40% of fragrances, as vetiver is often used as a fixative in compositions according to perfumers. Now, coming to Vetiver des Sables: this is primarily a fresh-woody composition with a generous dose of spices - precisely the basic spice marinade used in a chicken curry preparation, including Kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric, and ground coriander and cumin. This spice blend forms the counterpoint to the fresh-marine notes, and they together rest on a bed of nondescript woody notes (that may include vetiver). Over time the freshness subsides as the spiciness becomes more prominent, and later on the woody dry down prevails, which does roughly approximate the smell of mahogany furniture. Vetiver des Sables posseses good village and longevity. It also never smells agreeable, is too unbalanced with spices in the middle, and exhibits a grating synthetic demeanour from start to finish. 2/5 (negative)

Montale's Red Vetyver is one of my all-time favorites, and I wear it regularly. On my skin, Vetiver Des Sables doesn't present the depth and skilled blending of notes that Red accomplishes. Top notes smell just like EA Sunflowers (I detest Sunflowers) on my skin. I get nothing else. 2 hours in - still Sunflowers with an ever-so-evanescent hint reminiscent of Agua Di Gio (pour homme) and spices. Maybe cumin. 4 hours in - still Sunflowers and the hint of Aqua Di Gio. Spices seem to have disappeared. Moderate sillage (1/2 an arm's length) and longevity 4/12 hours for one spray.

Smokey Ultraviolet! You can smell the vetiver only at the top notes mixed with some fresh note, immediately after i detect coffe note, maybe from the spices and molding into smokey Ultraviolet version. Sillage and Projection are regular with Montale fragrances, heavy.

its always a pleasure to wear this perfume. It reminds of refreshing sea or by the beach...light and refreshing, long lasting as well.

The only perfume which has the best cardamom smell with optimal longevity and sillage.
