Vetiver Patchouli leans masculine and opens quite intense but not beastly, smelling fresh, woody and herbaceous; kind of clean rugged without any sharp edges. Worn on the skin it lasts up to 8 hours with 3 hours of moderate projection, on clothes it can last days! The texture feels smooth, of high-quality ingredients and well-put-together. Just allow the notes a few seconds to settle from the sprayer as this needs to breathe before getting your nose on top of it. The cedar is fresh and assertive, vetiver feels clean, bright and fresh, whilst patchouli sits in the background giving it a smooth herbaceous (and slightly medicinal) backbone. Pink pepper and carrot seeds add a touch of slightly spicy sweetness. The jasmine has just enough presence to give it a stealthy floral lift. That slightly medicinal aspect is similar to tea tree oil which sounds terrible but in the perfume, it makes the whole composition quite addictive. The life of the scent is fairly linear and always stays smooth. It has a few vague similarities to Hermes Terre D'Hermes eau Intense Vetiver, yet it’s original enough to confidently stand its own ground. Very versatile mild to cold weather scent that also wears very well in an air-conditioned environment. Definitely unique, original, possibly even signature-scent worthy for the over 30’s. I love it and it smells nothing like any other vetiver scent I’ve tried.

Garners lots of compliments from strangers in public places. Whatever it is compared to at best shares only a small aspect of similarity, just a tiny bit of a reminder, not more, this is it's own thing. The only thing I can compare it to is patchouli de Sumatra from choppard, if you skip the opening of patchouli de Sumatra and reach the heart, youll get something that is similar to vetiver patchouli, and yes vetiver patchouli is an earlier release, and is superior to patchouli de Sumatra. Has nothing to do with Terre de'hermese, please!! That one is unpleasant, sour and bitter. Superior spring and summer scent, lasts and projects very well. Will not shine well in extreme humid days. Better for spring or less humid weather. More of a night scent I have been layering it with vetiver sensuel from mancera, they're dancing in perfect harmony.

For years I've been searching for a patchouli scent that's not a nauseating, sickly sweet vanilla or amber concoction. I love patchouli but wanted something that was blended to be clean and more masculine rather than sweet and feminine. Montale Vetiver Patchouli is exactly what I was looking for. No one here has mentioned it but MVP is a very clean and almost soapy fragrance. It's kind of the cleaner, softer, powdery version of Terre d'Hermes EDT with a twist. Although the carrot note may sound strange, it's actually amazingly pleasant and really adds a lot of character here. I would say it's more masculine but can easily be worn by a woman. Patchouli and vetiver are scents that can easily go very wrong if blended poorly but Montale has managed to get both right with this. After sampling almost every patchouli forward fragrance out there I'm happy to have discovered MVP and will be purchasing a full bottle. One negative is that I hate the crappy aluminum can this stuff comes in. It feels cheap and you can't see how much juice is in it.

I ordered a tiny spray vial with my last perfume order because vetiver & patchouli - yes please! It said it was unisex and I was intrigued by the description. Upon first spray, this is very medicinal. I can't seem to put my finger on what it reminds me of, but in no time the scent changes and I can detect some sweetness - I believe it's the jasmine. This perfume is mixed very well and I can see how men and women alike could fall for it. In an odd way, the medicinal notes I'm picking up on are slightly addictive and make me want to spray more lol Kind of makes me want a full bottle of this, so I can continue to play tag with these notes with a less frugal spray. It's fresh, clean, and non offensive, yet I wouldn't say a safe blind buy, not for a full bottle anyway - the small spray vial I received from fragrancenet - absolutely! If I think to return I'll talk more on longevity etc. 5:30am and I just sprayed this hoping it might entice me to fall asleep, finally... I love to sleep with beautiful perfume on.

jackwins (whose review is waaaaay down below) is absolutely correct. This almost reads as a fougere. I was wracking my brain to figure out what I own that smells similar. It's Tom Ford Fougere Platine, which I love. Glad they aren't enough alike to make this purchase redundant. The combo of the vetiver and patchouli is delicious on my skin & the jasmine is a lovely bridge between them. It's a happy but slightly sexy scent to me, where TF FP is serious and sensual in an understated way. The sillage for VP is great so far for the last 2 hours I've had it on. I think it's versatile enough for spring, summer, fall, day & night but too light for cold weather. Another home run from Montale. EDIT: The dry down is gorgeous! And I still smelled it on myself the next morning (albeit faintly). The sillage is great. I wear this when I'm feeling myself a bit.

I love the juice but I cannot smell it in the air, it becomes immediately a skin sent and I can hardly notice it after an hour. You have to overspray it a lot to understand it. This is my first Montale and from what I knew they are beast-mode. It is not the case here. I don't know if there is Iso E Super in it, but it has that vibe, sometimes I can smell it, another time I can't. The more I train to smell it, the more I do smell it. Otherwise great quality juice. Linear all the way. I got a compliment the first try out when myself could not smell it. I want to smell it more. Let's see how many sprays will I need... If you like Vetiver, it's a blind buy as it was for me. Overall, great quality smell but with bad performance. EDIT It grown on me, I learned to appreciate it, and this to me is a masterpiece. Very well blent. I will definitely rebuy.

By far my favorite montale, it's dark, earthy with a slight sweetness. You can smell the vetiver and patchouli and they work well together. It's definitely has more of a gothic feel, similar to encre noire l'extreme (with molecule 01 +patchouli) but not as resinous. Personally I don't get the comparisons to TD'H because it lacks the apparent front and center grapefruit. Projects heavy for the first hour or so and then becomes more of a scent bubble. Longevity is average, I'd say 5-6 hours. Perfect for an outdoors trip in fall or a nighttime gathering at a metal or gothic concert. If you tried Orage by LV, these two are very similar but this is denser.

It's rather nicely blended juice with a decent quality. Solid vetiver and great patchouli, very fresh (nearly lemony) during the opening, then it gets more and more earthy and woody, rather classy, never "dark". However the performance (I've got tester 21') is not so good, longevity is average (5-6h on my skin and about 7 on the clothes) but the problem is the projection; rather strong for the first hour than rapidly it gets closer to the skin and frankly after 1 h it's really hard to pick for anybody around u. It's shame because despite this, it is one of the best Montale fragrances.

Wow this one is so so good. I don't know what people are talking about with the longevity-- it lasted about 6 hours for me before becoming a skin scent which is not amazing but not really that poor. Projection was good too. This is very similar to Red Vetiver, honestly I'd be pressed to find much of a difference except that the patchouli base in this one gives it a bit more richness. The vetiver note Montale uses is amazingly fresh, almost green, spicy/sweet and just beautiful, and propping it up with this patchouli which borders on chocolatey/spicey was genius. A favorite for sure.

One of the best, if not THE best from Montale. The first sprays from my new bottle were very different from the scent that I experienced thereafter though. (much, much better after spraying the bottle 7-8 times). Undoubtedly masculine in my opinion, very mysterious and sexy. If power and determination had a smell, it'd be this one. There's also something calming about it.. calms the mind and makes me breathe slower. Very green, dark, earthy, grounded, mysterious, alluring.. had to write a review because it surprised me in a very positive way. Love wearing this fragrance :)

This one really paints a picture for me... A cave opening in a rainy forest, musty, humid stone, undergrowth peppered with drops of dew and tiny flowers. Green, watery, airy. I don’t know how, but carrot here becomes earthy dampness, vetiver becomes fresh water, patchouli becomes musty leafiness. The jasmin is itself, a cameo. The tart top makes it very elegant, too. It disappears after 30 minutes, then comes back every now and then. It could not smell more natural. Not strong, not cheap, but landscapey.

One of the best men`s/unisex perfumes from Montale. - Fresher than fresh, yet no citrus. - This noble powdered earthy note that is carrot -is almost identical to orris root. - Herbal but young. It`s very sexy, sort of like a smell of clean skin after a bath infused with vetiver and Light patchouli oils. I get the Dior Homme Intense vibe here, although not exactly the same notes overall, but the contrast of sharp freshness and the earthy/orrisy/skin scent situation going on.

I am in love with this fragrance! I blind bought it just because I love vetiver and I love patchouli. I had no idea that when you combine them it would make such a beautiful fragrance. Very long lasting (10 hours). I reminds me of a chypre but also a bit of a fougere. The vetiver is not dirty, its very smooth. The Patchouli is not animalic its also very smooth. I also get a bit of orange peel. I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE!!!

I liked this one a lot. The vetiver gives it that classic clean smell and agreed with the patchouli leaf being more "medical" than earthy. Sadly it dried down rather quickly for me, and became a skin scent after after around 3 hours. Almost worth a buy even needing a reapply at lunch tho. Scent - 9/10 Longevity - 3 hours Stillage (scents are weak on me) 4.5/10 Overall 6.5/10 Could have been a daily driver.

Smells nice, reminds me of autumn. One of those natural earthy, leafy, rainy, woodsy, outdoorsy scents. I quite like it and it is close to Orage from LV which I also like quite a bit. The 2 scents are almost identical, maybe Montale's is a bit less refined and Orage is a bit more airy and clean. It's definitely masculine and I won't recommend for warmer weather.

Vetiver Patchouli is a very good masculine, classy and sexy fragrance. I love the smell, especially the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately its longevity and performance is rather disappointing - after a few hours it is a skin scent on my skin. This one does have some similarities with Louis Vuitton’s Orage - but, I think Orage has more depth and better longevity.

A clean, dry, herbal, fresh, slightly earthy and very nice fragrance. Some users detect a non-declared Bergamot note in the opening. Mature, masculine, with moderate projection and good longevity, and very versatile for a variety of occasions and weather conditons.

My goodness! This is one of the best releases from the house of Montale! Fresh, clean and woody! I have no complaints about performance as I get solid performance from it. It’s so nice and versatile. Perfect signature scent for a man.

This is a camphorous, clayey beauty that is great for wearing to the office. It has a citrusy background in the opening which lingers throughout the life of the scent, but it's hard to tell the notes apart in it.

nothing like TdH...no fruit .its like chocolety patchouly with vetiver lightly breaking it up. vetiver is subtle on not typical intepretation. its sooooo nice. totally uinderrated

Imagine a soapy, powdery Terre de Hermes EDT without the grapefruit and orange and cranked up patchouli. I didn't like Patchouli Leaves but this one is great.

It is surprisingly good. Longlasting, elegant, modern chypre.

Before I really dove deeply into fragrances, I never realized how different a note like patchouli could smell, but this is my favorite sort of fresh, medicinal kind of patchouli. It reminds me of the patchouli in another favorite, Electimuss Persephone's Patchouli, but this one does not have the rose, though what people are referencing as carrot and jasmine gives an almost geranium, rosy like quality to it, a perfect fresh, slightly rosy patchouli and splash of fresh vetiver. I expected to like it, but not this much! No idea on the longevity just yet, but will update if anything unexpected occurs.

So since I got a small sample of this with my Treasure Box,I'll be testing it in the coming days. But I'll be using it sparingly however. First impressions: So immediately upon spaying it on my hand I am reminded of the old oil you use on your joints and the annoying thing is I can't put my name on it...not that I mind at all actually but it has vibes of teatree oil to it as well. But as it's drying down it's not as strong it's now more woody to me. This is a very odd one from Montale by that I mean odd in a good way.

The opening and first hour on this may be my favorite scent to date. Addicting even. Very earthy, grassy. It smells a bit like a fougere, and a bit like Red Vetiver without the grapefruit. That said, it just doesn't last. After an hour you have to get close to smell it. By hour 3, it's completely gone. If they could figure out how to amp up the longevity on this one, it'd be my favorite fragrance.

Not sure what’s going on with my sample...I mostly just get citrus. It’s pleasant—very good, smooth citrus actually—but I don’t really get either of the notes in it’s name. Maybe if I sniff where I sprayed on the skin, as hard as I can sniff, I get a hint of ambiguousness that could be those two, haha! Disappointed but I’ll keep trying it.

wow this smells so so earthy, slightly sweet and very alluring. As others note, this isn't chocolate cake patchouli, but it is bitter and soil-like, which may be as a result of the vetiver which is bone-dry like in the Encre Noir line. Really nice stuff!

Great fresh herbal scent. Weakest longevity of any Montale I've ever owned. 2 hours max.

I don't know if I received a fake fragrance from Jomashop, but this thing is very weak. Probably the weakest I have in my collection. Scent is nice, but there is zero projection.

A fairly light composition, sweetness plus vetiver slightly lifted higher.

This was initially an uncertain on the opening reducing to a definite thumbs down on dry down. It kept on reminding me of something , maybe luxury mothballs but then I got it. It smells like a cheap version of Antoine Barrios Ganymede. The latter is itself an acquired taste so a cheap version becomes very annoying and it lasts for hours!

Montale Vetiver Patchouli opens up super bright and citrusy for the first few minutes...it reminds me of lemon candy. There are no citrus notes listed, so I don't know where it comes from, but it does not last long at all. After that, I'm basically left with a lot of vetiver and a little patchouli. The pink pepper, jasmine, and carrot must do a lot to smooth things out because the vetiver here is not very sharp. It is more soft and polished. While the patchouli does give off an earthy, woodsy vibe, it is super clean. I was expecting the vetiver/patchouli combo to be a little more challenging, maybe even kind of skanky. Instead, this is very pretty, sort of elegant. In that way, this scent was a surprise to me. Montale Vetiver Patchouli smells fresh and pure, like a walk through secret woodlands...very serene. While it lasts a long time, this scent is not strong at all, unlike most Montales. Someone has to be close to smell it, but that is okay. Very nice stuff.

1st wearing felt more like a fougere. 2nd wearing felt more like a fougere with patchouli. 3rd wearing it clicked, I've worn something that I was getting vibes of. Ahhhh ..Tom Ford Beau De Jeur, a fougere with patchouli base. I gave that bottle of BDJ away as my wife did not like it and I think it's because of the opening is lavender heavy but in the dry down it's got a heavy patchouli base. But, MVP to my nose starts where the drydown of BDJ begins and my wife likes MVP, I'm assuming, because it doesn't have the heavy lavender, old-school, dominated opening. Not going to lie...somebody commented, "wet basement," and there are times where I have picked up that same thing up. But, it's bizarrely nice and for me wears easier than expected. But, this 100% not a safe blind buy for somebody just getting into the frag game.

All of these men saying this is a masculine fragrance have clearly never dated or befriended an intriguing and beguiling woman who understands the balance of earth, spirit, fire, water and air. They have never kept company with a a lady deeply in tune with the wheel of the year, who understands the deep importance of millennia of earth, moon, sun, and star worship by cultures across the world. They’ve never taken a walk in the woods with a femme fatale who can identify all of the wildly growing plants and herbs and asks permission from the land spirits before taking them- she, who has an herbal apothecary in her kitchen ready to make the most delicious dinner, potion, or poison. This fragrance is stunning and knows no gender; it is gorgeous, well rounded, balanced, and harmonious, much like the woman who wears it.

I've smelled all of the Montale fragrances, as I have a perfumery close to me. I would say Montale's 2 best fragrances are Vetiver Patchouli and Oud Dream. (It seems very odd that Chocolate Greedy gets so much hype, because Ristretto is so much better.) This is easy to describe as it's in the name. More earthy mildly sharp vetiver in the opening transforms to more patchouli in the final 3 hours. Longevity is average and projection is average. Average is not bad, not great. One of the best Montale fragrances out there especially for an older gentleman like myself.

Well, it's strong, or at least remarkable, on Iso E Super, like was said before, and that combined with strong vetiver makes is close to Red Vetiver with grapefruit replaced with lemon or somewhat generally citrus and added bright patchouli, which combined with lemon gives it a sparkle and spice and makes a huge step forward to be interesting and attractive in any way. I can imagine it in every possible formal or partly official social situation to be appropriate, confident and respectable. Great for those who can wear IES, but a pass for me.

I really wanted to buy Orage from Louis Vuitton but when a comparison was made to this, I figured before I bought a full bottle, Id give Vetiver Patchouli a try and Im glad I did. There are many similarities between this and Orage, enough so that I would be comfortable buying a full bottle of this instead. The main Differences I perceive between the two are that Orage seems a little airier/cleaner but at the expense of projection whereas Vetiver Patchouli is slightly denser - almost syrupy in a way and with better projection. I enjoy this.

I was looking for something to avoid paying LV Orage price when it performs awfully. This smells almost the same, with way better longevity. It's masculine, professional and second skin... not sure that it will grab many compliments but this is a fragrance that many guys would like to be known for. After a while turns into what the very first version of Dior Homme (2005) used to be, DRY vetiver and patchouli with no cocoa and then it goes the Orage route. Loooove this.

I am really conflicted about this scent because I can’t stand the opening but I love the drydown. The opening is just way too sharp for me, but it dries down to a beautiful warm scent. There is definitely a story here since I think what's going on is that all the patchouli is front-loaded in the opening and all the vetiver is in the drydown, so like, I get what they're going for, but it would be nice to have the whole thing be a bit more blended.

This is my most complimented fragrance by far and I have a lot of the usual compliment magnets. Haven't worn it for a while and today I get jasmine popping out from time to time. Longevity and sillage are good. My bottle is late 2019 and maybe it likes a bit of age. I need a new one soon so hope it hasn't changed too much. It leaves a lovely dry down on jacket collars for days after wearing.

Just received this today and man oww man I'm so happy that I bought it. This will get you laid gentle men and I mean that in the most respectful way but that's what this fragrance demands and forces; attention and respect.. the woody - fresh - Carrot combo is a masterpiece and very creative. Ps don't be a sissy sprayer and you'll get longer longevity

Very sexy vetiver patchouli with carrot seeds that reminds you of iris. This is very close nor possibly inspired by Orage by LV but this one has way better performance and doesn’t have citruses. If you got it recently, let it macerate. It’s not a beast and it’s not supposed to be but after a month or two you will get better performance oomph.

This has no staying power and is on the cusp of greatness. The carrot and vetiver mingle nicely, but the lack of power from the patchouli was disappointing. Otherwise an intriguing opening with no floral aspect fro me....I wanted more. It was different than the typical Mancera / Montale I’ve experienced in the past. Less synthetic.

I am just gonna keep it simple and say that this is a very, very good alternative to LV Orage. The noticeable difference is that Montale opens up with earthy carrot , but it dies down pretty quick. You are left with essentially the same fragrance - for a cheaper price.

God I love this. I want to have babies with this one. It has [almost] everything I want from a perfume: freshness, beauty, being interesting but not overwhelming, mystery, tartness, uniqueness and solid performance. I'm planning to layer it with Intense pepper.

I decided to bite and bought Tempo instead of this one just as @mrrob suggested above. Wow and just wow.. Every 5 min I have to say out loud: what a perfume.. Diptyque Tempo does resemble Orage from LV, and subsequently reminds of Vetiver Patchouli

Please don't take for granted all those people who can't cope with anosmia. This fragrance is an elagant beast with 8+ hours longevity. On clothes it just stays for a week at least. Heavenly juice.

It is a fresh take on patchouli. It is even cold. The vetiver here is fresh and gives a vibe of Terre d’ Hermes. The powdery qualities come from the carrot. It is very nice and addictive.

Just get Diptyque Tempo and thank me later. If anything I’d say this one could be worn farther into spring as it is thinner less dense. That being said. Get tempo.
