Wild Aoud

Wow, this is a total love or hate isn't it?? I think I might love it. It's definitely a Montale. It's got that certain something they all have, whatever it is. Opens fresh, herbal-spicy, I definitely get the geranium, artemesia, and amber. And there is oud in there, too. I love this pairing of a fresh top with an oud base. I swear I am catching a bit of praline. This is a complex and not easily defined fragrance. After a couple of hours it deepens and gets this wonderful mulchy, loamy, earthy quality, really not unlike dark soil. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem this lasts very long, but I need to test it more thoroughly before I can really tell. So far I really love this.

This one has the same oud intensity as Black Aoud but without the rose. It's brighter and a bit sweet. I love it. I had a big disappointment with Oudyssee and Rendez Vous a Paris, but this one is a win. Something tells me I should stick to the Aoud line. Oudyssee lasts less than 6 hours, and Rendez Vous a Paris is a mess of scents. EDIT: it doesnt last more than 6 hours... I guess the only Montale I am sticking with is Black Aoud...

Highly complimented fragrance this one. It combines a familiar men's cologne vibe with something a bit medicinal and sterilized. At some point it reminds me of Guerlain's Vetiver (probably the bergamont/tobacco notes they share?). Performance is good as I get 10+ hours of longevity and intense projection for the first few hours. Then it sits close to the skin, with a discreet but persistent trail.

Very interesting fragrance. Starts out very strong and fresh citrus. Over time it warms up and becomes milky soft from the oud wood. It doesn't project compared to Black or Red Aoud, but has great longevity (10+ hours) on my skin. I like it a lot. 9/10.

although it doesnt have great silage or longevity , but its he best perfume i ever had amongst more than 50 i have had . and honestly , im afraid to say it here beacause i want it to remain exclusively my scent :)

Signature scent worthy. I feel like this could be worn anytime except for super high heat. I get geranium, oud and tobacco. Not beast mode but still a great performer. 9/10

This is not close to shades wood at all. No idea how that got onto the similar fragrance list.

Lightest bottle of Fragrance for what is supposed to be 100 grams. Packaging 5/10. Lacks creativity in bottle design. Nice sprayer. protective pouch for taking along with you, but you can leave it at home because although sillage is 3/10 at best (and its summer) the longevity (7/10)is a good 6 hours minimum and 9 max on me over moisturized skin in June and July. I can see this for all seasons but it feels like an Autumn fragrance. To be very honest I did not like this scent the first few times I sat around sniffing my arm. Somewhere with repeated exposure, I really began to appreciate it. Its not a masterpiece mind you, it doesn't break any ground with originality- its just a very nice scent although in the opening the tobacco, which is kicked up a bit by the base of patchouli and amber, is very smokey and overpowers the citrus and geranium. I don't smell a lot of Bergamot. I don't smell any rose or other flowers. I get a lot of dry wood. Amber emerged 45 minutes in, its not a powdery or ultra sweet amber. I wish it had a little musk in there, but I do not appreciate any. It does not change very much at all - just gets slightly sweeter as the alcohol leaves the formulation. 7.5/10 fragrance.

Thought about blind buying a full bottle but ended up getting a decant. I'm glad I did. I like it but I don't love it. The geranium is most noticeable along with a bit of woodiness. The other notes are very subtle. Not really getting any oud here like in other Montale's I've tried, or much of any tobacco either. I'm surprised members view this as more of a fall/winter scent. I can see this being worn year round. Lasts all day with modest sillage.

interesting! it smells like a woody-spicy to me. as if there was cinnamon and cloves? so far I did not get much tobacco. will give it another try though.

I like it. Kinda fresh oud scent. More masculine. Great for cooler weather.

This leans Uber masculine—but not in an attractive way. One of the last Montale’s I sniffed before swearing off the brand: headache inducing and nauseating. I could not scrub it off fast enough. Montale’s synthetic Oud has the dubious distinction of causing me to call in sick to work, it’s that bad.

I am not picking up anything other than oud. I am a Montale lover but this is so boring and lame. Also it does not project as some of the other Montales. Nothing good to say about this one.

Montale - Wild Aoud In a sense, I have to agree with most of the things others said before me. Normally, oud and freshness / lightness would be mutually exclusive. Not anymore, for a few years now. This one is over a decade young now. Another great example from my collection is Oud Minerale from Tom Ford. I'm sure there's more, supporting the somewhat perplexing idea of "fresh oud" that miraculously seems to be working. And this is a welcome phenomenon for those of us in search of a more approachable frag with a slight edge, but for everyday use (i.e. dumb reach). The slight flowery element eases out the oud facet even more, giving Wild Aoud a touch of softness making this perfectly wearable by both sexes. At the end of the day, it is mostly up to our personal vibe we radiate what type of juice fits us. In my books, this one is a textbook example of a soft but persistent all-rounder with a definite character worthy of a place in one's everyday / office safe rotation.

I'm only dipping my toes into this brand as they aren't availaible in my country. I have some samples though and so far have only tried two. Moon Aoud and this one. Of the two, this is darker, geranium gives its rose-like self to the blend which together with the tobacco and teak, make a very masculine Aoud blend. It's like the Aoud wraps itself around the other notes like a blanket, not totally covering them, but dominating them. I sometimes find Aoud/Oud to smell quite dirty and rough, and it does in this only slightly, the geranium lifts is slightly and gives it a crispness. ETA. The drydown of this is really quite beautiful, once the aoud calms down and gives the other notes a chance, this scent becomes "one"...it's a gorgeous crisp exotic geranium, with incensey woodsy tones. LOVE! There is a sexiness to this, I think if a guy was wearing a leather jacket and looking super cool, the smell of the leather jacket with wafts of this would be damn sexy!

First impressions. The opening is medicinal and barbershoppy, which I quite like. There is a kind of fresh astringency from bergamot and artemisia that tingles in my throat. There is a minty floral fruity accord that's probably geranium, and that reminds me of Platinum Egoiste. In the base, I get a warm woody accord in which oud, patchouli and tobacco are seamlessly blended -- tobacco sticks out a bit more than the other elements, combines with soft patchouli, like in Miller Harris's Feuilles de Tabac. The oud is just a generic burnt wood accent. But then, to my surprise, comes a synthetic woody amber or ambergris accord similar to Sauvage (and its flankers) and several other modern masculine fragrances. I actually like it here -- it combines with the fresh barbershoppy top notes and also goes well with the woody base. So it's a different kind of funky "fresh". Maybe even similar to the marine accord of AdP Colonia Ambra.

To my nose, Montale Wild Aoud is a woody oud perfume more geared toward the gents than the ladies. The oud note itself is very familiar to me from Bond no 9 New York Oud. By now I've decided that it doesn't matter how authentic this perfume version of oud is, as the supposedly "real deal" oud perfumes which I have tried were rather unpleasant to me. Gringo oud is the way to go for more feminine and wearable perfumes. The reason why I prefer New York Oud to Wild Aoud can be summed up in a single word: flowers. To be more precise: roses. Of course, not everyone is looking for this particular oud note blended in with bushels of rose petals. Some will prefer this staid, stern, woody oud to the voluptuousness of the cluster of excellent rose-oud perfumes now available. So they can have all of the Wild Aoud stock, and I'll stick with the more floral oriental perfumes.

A sweet and refreshing amber attar with a citrus spicy opening settles down with sweet amber, woody notes but the freshness is always present. The lavender seems to balance the rest of the notes making some of the notes less pronounced. No wild oud I am afraid. Overall is a very fresh spicy amber attar very different to other amber-based attars I tried from Montale like Amber & Spices and Blue Amber. Wild Oud is also commercially sold under 3 different perfume names in the market by Al Haramain: the first one is called Marjan, the second is called Sultan Super and is sold as loose attar oil. The third is called Maze and is an EDT spray version of the same perfume,all 3 smell like Wild Aoud. A great fragrance for the summer, very sexy and uplifting, great projection, 100% recommended if you like Arabic Attars or exploring Arabic fragrances.

Vertigo is right. Joop Jump or Montale's Wild Aoud is a very hasty production! Marketing wise: This Joop Jump should not be in Montale's Aoud collection; although it might increase revenues, short-run only, while in the long-run, drives away our loyalty back to other perfumers (Monegal, Lutens, and others...). I do not understand how can someone produce GREAT PERFUMES like: Original Aoud, Dark Aoud, Aoud Lime,and Black Aoud, then relax in such an inconsistent way? Pierre: Stop produce this bad/wild aoud, and plan for better ones...No more brut with oud, bien-etre with oud, tabac w oud, old spice w oud... Plan your challenges, and take your time; we can wait... USERs: Do not buy before sampling: it is not worth more than $40!

I agree with Scent E(t)mane; However, Wild Aoud reminds me of Nicole Miller for men accord! But, I mix it with Full incense, and what happens: In one hour, it becomes a perfect matrimony where the Joop accord is totally subdued by the frankincense... Another 40' into the honeymoon, all there is left is the nice spice accord from Wild Aoud, plus the citrus freshness from the Full Incense. Bonjour Pierre: you have access to all kind of raw ingredients; we do not! You should have taken your time before releasing Wild Aoud... Buono e particolare nella sua capacità di essere così verde pur essendo un oud... e non è affar da poco! Della linea Aoud di P.Montale, provato fra il "Dark Aoud" ed il "Musk Aoud" ma scelto proprio in merito alla sua originalità. Apre fresco con una buona artemisia e con il geranio egiziano i quali, sfumando lentamente, lasciano spazio all'avvolgente legno di teak con accenno tabaccoso fino all'arrivo dal buio, superbo, maestoso e poderoso del resinoso oud che mi pare, si prenda la scena, e per lungo tempo. Anche per questo Montale ottima la persistenza: m'ha accompagnato "brillantemente" per tutta la giornata

I fully agree with Lana148! Where many of Montale's offerings feel like they are part of the journey to another fragrance, Wild Aoud stands alone, and quite handsomely so. The bergamot and geranium are wonderful doormen to the wood and oud inside. Although I don't get the smell of tobacco, it carries the feel of it. A smooth warmth astraddle the woods, softening and taming the oud's potential volatile edges. Don't let the "wild" in its name fool you. There's no chaos here. Just a streamlined, well thought out fragrance.

this has me bewitched. i've tried about 15 or 20 montales 'aouds' and they all have some common element or accord that makes them 'montales', but this one is different. that lemoney-spritely 'oud' (we all know it's NOT oud at all, doesn't even SMELL like real oud, but i love WHATEVER it is -- sorta like how 'grape' gum tastes NOTHING like grape but you still love whatEVER it is!!!) combines with the floral sweetness. it works so well...i'm looking for a full bottle methinks. it's amazing...

Montale Wild Aoud is, in principle, should be an interesting scent, as a mix of oud, tobacco, and teak wood, but it lacks power, intrigue, and balance on my skin, instead veering off toward an odd, stale sweetness like dried fruit. Definitely slightly masculine and cold weather leaning, Wild Aoud is unfortunately not up to par on performance, and while Montale sets high standards for both projection and longevity, this is still a little disappointing. 5 out of 10

Not as bad as I expected. While Wild Aoud doesn't stand out among the infinite offering by Montale, at the same time it's a quite succesful blend of woods and astringent (sort of citrusy) artemisia/geranium. The oud note is restrained and used to just add some boldness while the strong woody drydown anriched by a slight fruity vibe place Wild Aoud somewhere between Pleasure For Men and Assolo. Nice. Rating: 6.5-7/10

Love this scent. It carries the musty tone that Milliseme Imperial also has, but without the melon soapy detergent. Not that I don't like Millesime Imperial, I love it. Wild Aoud is a more manly smell & I am so glad that I found it. I never want to be without this scent now. It could well become my signature scent, out of my 40+ niche fragrances collection.

Wild Aoud is very masculine. I passed my sample to my man. I'm sorry to say that to me it smells very common and familiar. Like you've mixed classic men's colognes (geranium + bergamot) with modern night-out fragrances (tobacco and citrus from Armani Code & patchouli & amber from Attitude Extreme by Giorgio Armani). I expected something more interesting.

First time I tried this in 2011: incredible, deep, woody, manly, tobacco, teak and soil. Very nice and very sensual, almost dirty. Deep and rich with an almost chocolatey note. October 2012: A new bottle shows terrible reformulation with sharp, nose-hair burning-chemical, fake oud replacing what was once a deep, rich, complex scent. No good.

compared to black aoud its a pretty synthetic in the middle, unfortunately, and retains as it is super iso-e or so, very strange, have to wash down. Black aoud is a mile more classy, ..... so forget this one, (lucky to have only small decant from the wild aoud)...

Geranium-gergamot oud. Don't really get tobacco here. Well done fragrance, leaning towards masculine. Very happy this is something different then just another rose-oud blend from Montale.

Oh, but I feel only nuts, roasted a little. Maybe a leather. It's deep and misterious.

I'm really enjoying my sample, but does nobody else get a rose accord in this???

Mugler’s Amen + oud. That’s approximately what I get.
