Wood On Fire

This is a very underrated fragrance if you like a true smokey bakhoor oud middle Eastern scent.This is the epitome of that starts of very smokey with an underlining sharp tone that can be overwhelming. However this starts to settle after 5 mins and becomes a smokey bakhoor mixed of resins oud and balsams with a classy sweet vanilla which is more like benzoin.To me this is like a more wearable more appealing version of amouages interlude original with aspects of noir ambre/or encens.Essentially these 3 fragrances combined with the same beast mode performance.Montale are one of the best houses if you enjoy this type of profile in niche perfumery without overspending.

#967 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is a really nice smoky, woody ambery scent. Slight sweetness. Mildly masculine. Moderate projection. All day longevity. Not too beastly for the office. But probably not going to be that popular with younger men who seem to prefer blues. Smoky scents like this seem to be more 40 and up. I think this is entirely it's own scent, not really that similar to anything in the reminds me of list, but if you already have Ministry of Oud's "Thailand Oud in Cairo" I think this is redundant. If you don't have either get the "Thailand Oud in Cairo." It's a better scent and only $20. But I'll probably buy a bottle of this anyway.

I went to buy my first Montale perfume and was intending on purchasing one of their more popular releases like Arabians Tonka or Black Oudh but oh my I fe in love when I smelled this! It is giving the Arabic fragrance vibes but I haven’t found a cheaper alternative that has the same sophistication and longevity as WoF. It’s potent yet subtle and it wears perfectly on my skin. I saw the reviews here after purchasing it and was surprised that it wasn’t more loved. Regardless, I really like it and it brings me such joy to get the occasional sniff whenever I’m wearing it.

Incense and citrus, bergamot maybe which neither are listed notes. Not super Smoky but a little. Moderate all around for projection and longevity. I like it. It is not terroni or Maahir black which are very similar to one another. I like them all and have them all and wear them regularly. I wouldn't want someone to buy this and think it is a substitute, they are different.

To the comments about smelling like real burning wood if it simply smelt like that it would be a flop.The sweetness contrasted with the herbal forest fire scent is what make this magical.10/10 for cold weather Montale excel in dark brooding enigmatic scents.However im happy to see they also now have some banger freshies like Blue Matcha Herbal Aquatica and Oudyssee

The opening to this is exactly what you would think... smokey warm and dry I think the opening stands alone as unique, then in the mid and dry down it starts going the way of black afgano, buy wroth a small twist.

A cold winter evening, a burning fireplace, two people or maybe more and ........something else:) Really great fragrance, great longevity, over 15-16 hours on skin (on clothes 3-4 days)

Orto Parisi Terroni 98% but this is better! Yes is better! Added some fresh vibe to lemon! Awesome realese! Performance is very very good!

This is one of my favourite from Montale, longevity is off the charts and projection is good as well!

I’m wearing this today, cold weather. Gives me a cosy feeling. Excelent fragrance

99% Terroni by Orto Parisi, wow!

Very sexy masculine scent which is useable for women too! Reminds me xmass and a fireplace. Definitely made for winter time.

Name is misleading folks - doesn't smell like a Wood on Fire. Sweetness inclines more towards feminine side. Woody notes are undermined my excessive sweetness. If you looking for a Woody Scent, this is not [can never] an option. - Longevity - stays on clothes for 10-12 hours [using this in winters, so no idea about summers] - Sillage is at or around 2.5 hours If you wanna buy - first check and make your mind. Its not that extraordinary perfume.

I love the smell of a fireplace and smoke, so I thought this will be quite similar to By the fireplace. However, Arabian tonka is much closer and much better than any other Montale fragrances. Wood on fire does not smell exactly like wood on fire - just a middle eastern oud fragrance for winter with some sweetness. Not disappointed, not impressed for sure. Longevity - more than 12 hours, projection - it is alright but the smell - mediocre.

One of the few Montale disappointments. Nothing like real burning wood - By the fireplace is the real deal if you are looking for burning wood. This one is extremely simple Arabian scent, very plain with no development and I simply cannot understand all the positive comments how amazing it is. You can do better for less than $20.

In the opening, I get an encre noire a'lextreme vibe for a few seconds. After that I get sugar and incense. In the drydown I continue to get sugar and incense. It has something from Instant Crush and By the Fireplace. Nothing Special.

It’s a nice smoky incense scent but definitely was expecting a bit more oud to be present in the dry-down. Quite a linear fragrance, straight to the point, moderate projection and longevity.

for a montale...it's not a great idea...a bit banal, a vanilla with a bit of smoke at the beginning...nothing more. the performances are not at all as good as expected from a montale. 6/10

Gives a dark and moody vibe. Smells exactly like incense or similar to an old cathedral. The smell itself does not smell bad. It’s just very unique and challenging to wear. You will definitely stand out or have your presence known. It could be off putting to some I recommend 2 sprays, 3 if you really wanna push the point across. But you should be good with 2. Definitely for an older/mature crowd. Smells like an incense candle.

Give Wood on Fire eay de parfum about 15 minutes before you decide it you like it or not, because it changes a bit on skin. I mostly agree with Scentsibilities. When I first sprayed this, I got a sharp note in the background that was off putting, but after 5 minutes that died down. The first whiff of this was straight mesquite BBQ smoke, with some underlying spices, and that sharp note I can’t put my finger on. It seemed masculine to me, with NO vanilla, powder, or sweetness to it. Yet, for some reason mezcal comes to mind, and I love mezcal, but I do not love Wood on Fire’s opening smell. After 5 minutes, it started smelling more of smoke, and less sharp. If you have ever smelled compressed mesquite wood incense. That was this but with some other spice in the background. Then after another 5 minutes, I started smelling something sweet and powdery mixed in with the bbq smoke. And this I actually like. On me, the sweetness dies down and it leave more of a hint of smoke, like you walked past a bonfire, but instead of normal wood, they used mesquite and spices. I like this more the longer it’s on my skin, but I’m note sure if this is a fragrance I will continue to wear. I sprayed it once on my arm, and the initially sillage was strong but it became weaker and weaker. Because of that, I could see this pairing well as a layer with some other fragrance- maybe a powdery sandalwood like Santal à la Vida by Infiniment Coty. Or a marshmallow vanilla like Mochi Milk by DedCool.- it might smell like smores! I actually just tried it on one arm with Santal Austral by Matiere Premiere on the other and I kinda like it. I feel like they play well together, even though I didn’t actually layer them over one another.

My husband smells amazing in this. I was downstairs and shouted up: "Who in this family is smelling so good?" "That would be me," from cheeky husband. This is our first Montale in the household but we will buy more.

I have this for a year, now i get almost no smoke and very low wood from it, also my other montales trnd to lose aome notes over time, is it a common thing when montale fragrances macerate?

The guy below that says by the fireplace is like burning wood... are you nuts???? Why does everyone think by the fireplace is a smoky scent when it’s now... get your heads examined

The thought of smelling like firewood, bon fires and chimneys sounds amazing. However, I realized quickly when worn as a fragrance it makes my stomach Churn...

Another oud and vanilla heavy scent from Montale....... Shocking.
