Montana Black Edition

Extreamely underrated fragrance. Its develops a magnific woodsy/leather scent that you relate to very expensive fragrances. Its darkness is a dry one, with a magnificent leather /incense /woody pleasant and manly dry down notes. It opens spicy with a light sweet touch due to the cinnamon and orange/mandarin notes. It develops its dryness with a strong woody evolution milded by flowers, mainly rose. It is easy to relate it as a flanker Montana Parfum d'Homme. It has the same quality and preety presentation as well. It does remember the Aramis Havana family without the warm tobacco note. Well above average performance with a longevity of 12+ hours. Average projection of 4~6 feet during the first 3 hours. Its wearability is very high. It did create a certain addiction on me. I know I am going to use it at a very fast pace. Need to get a second bottle ASAP. A scent that sits square in the middle of my wheelhouse, Montana Black Edition is a dense, exotic, yet unified composition that was a bold release for 2011 being that it is at first sniff it smells like it was released in 1984. I give much credit to Montana for being so daring as to release something so out of step with the times, and doing it with such aplomb. This Tower of Babel opens with a maddeningly good fanfare of aldehyde C-12, conifers, and Epicene-esque spice accord. Rose comes to the fore as the heart enters the scene, making this stage vaguely reminiscent of a hybrid Van Cleef and Arpels Pour Homme with Aramis Havana. However, leather and incense are what pull this in its own direction, almost reminding the wearer that Black Edition is in fact a modern release. It isn't merely some cheap 80s cosplay, though, this is of great quality and design, if not misunderstood by modern noses that haven't inhabited a time where such elements were commonplace. Black Edition projects and has sillage for days, if any of that matters to you. It's all icing on the cake for me. This is a solid release and will be revisited often!

This shares some notes prominently with VC&A Tsar. Leather, pine, lavender, rose, sandalwood, citrus, woods, and spices. I find them quite similar. However, I prefer Montana Black a bit more. The pepper and incense just adds a nice quality to it. No bergamot. Slightly balsamic, smoking, and powdery (at first). A little on the "soapy" side, but not as much as Tsar. A fresh easy going fragrance that captures an earlier time in perfumery (maybe late 80's to early 90's), while still feeling a little more modern. I had some vintage Tsar that I sold off. Then I picked up a large 125ml bottle of Montana Black for a lot less. A worthy replacement. I was more enamored when I first got this. Now that I've had more time to live with it, I find it not quite as good. It's VERY affordable. This goes along side many others like Mr. Blass and Davidoff Silver Shadow for being a very good inexpensive fragrance. You get a little more than what you pay for, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's many times better than that. For what I paid, I'd still be OK if I had paid 50% more, but certainly not double.

Now i have got this one and i can finally assure you that black and noire sacree are 2 total different scents but with the same aim,to provide us an insight about dark colors in this imaginary world.This one is a aromatic and balsamic old schooler,done in present times without even care of trends,the other instead,is more near the concept of smoke,a more succesful trend on the younger generations of today;i find them both compelling and meditating scents’

An unknown gem. Smells like it's from the 1980's. Big thumbs up to Montana for having the balls to release a true powerhouse in this day and age. Hopefully we'll see more of this kind of creativity from other fragrance houses in the future. Montana Black Edition is a real winner and one of the best releases of the past 20 years.

Good spicy fragrance, more intense than the Montana parfum d'homme in red box. Not many fragrance that came out these days smelling like this so to me, it's a class of its own. If you run the 90's fashion mode, then this male classic fragrance accompanies it. Even until now, it will not go outdated.

This juice is GREAT! I get a LOT of compliments while wearing it. It has a peppery dry-down that I really like. It is a wee bit strong at first but settles down after about 20 minutes. Very good sillage and longevity. I highly recommend this! Montana scores again!

I really like this! Not sure if all the notes above are correct. Montana Black for about the first 30 minutes is a combination of Havana Aramis + Drakkar Noir, later the smokiness of Jacomo de Jacomo joins until the end. Definitely masculine, very nice!

hidden gem by montana! a wonderful dark spicy scent a true powerhouse the nose behind this gem is edouard fleschier whom also made montana pour homme ! awesome scent to be loved by true frag lovers!

Great perfume and very nice bottle. Only bought one last year and regret not to have bought two as it is very hard to find. I do recommend it.

spicey and green.Drakar noir ish for sure. Strong smelling and cool bottle. OLD SCHOOL smell so may not be everyones cup of tea

"Hey Tats! How about one more for the road!" In the early seventies i was riding with a rough crowd. It was California and bikes were big. A young kid who could handle himself could make a good buck if you got in with the right people. My line of work brought me in contact with a strange variety of folks but there was this Russian cat i had run-ins with that i never forgot. One day me and my brother biked down to the Russian's studio. He was a sculptor and welder - an arteest - tatlin was what people called him. He was a gruff skinny dude and always had a cigarette half hanging on his lip with an inch of ashes always curled and ready to fall. He drank and always offered us warm 'wodka' in tall drinking glasses when we trailed in. His studio was always all a tumble - in an old timber loft district with high ceiling no walls and furniture here and there - always in a different place from the previous visit. The studio was located where most people steered clear. A not so nice part of the city. Inside that place was like steppin into another world. It smelled like the old timber columns & beams had lived through a fire and weren't ready to let the memory go easy. Entering from a freight elevator there were metal sculptures all over the place with metal bars laying here and there - you always had to watch your step ... and there were always women! Oh my, oh my - Beauties with a capital B. Some young some older and soo gorgeous, smelling like roses and welded metal wire. It was almost like walking into heaven for a guy like me. Whenever Tats would start talkin i felt like i was at the tower of babel because i couldn't understand a word and i was always focused on when that dam ash would finally fall - it never did! This stuff reminds me of my drop-offs at Tats place. The smell of smokey wood, the pretty ladies smelling like roses, Tats welding away on some crazy construction ... sipping some 'wodka' and takin the beauty of that chaos in - in a single breath everything made sense - things on the surface can be in total disarray but if the construction is just right - oh, what a thing of beauty it can be. you take away one simple thing and it's just not as fun to be there ... that's what this stuff is like to me. It's strange and chaotic enough but constructed well enough to make beautiful sense - it's hard on the edges but it's softness takes your attention away from it just enough to make it comfortable ... but take away one thing and it all crashes down like a poorly built sculpture or tower of babel! This stuff is just strange enough to make perfect sense!

I used to wear Montana Parfum D ́Homme as a signature scent for a while after Givenchy Gentleman and Fahrenheit. It was spicy sweet aromatic, at times chypre, others gourmand according to the time of the day, occasion and how you felt about it. It was quite complex as it was full of naturals. Attention grabbing definitely at all times. One can't find it anymore, but a year or so ago I found this one instead, which honestly pales in comparison. Times have changed and for me this is a placebo for what I used to wear. I am poignantly aware of this being clearly not it, while at the same time being the closest one can get these days. I think it is worth a purchase if you miss the OG bad. Anyhow, the bottle is basically the same but darker, and the scent is simpler, less sweet, less pungent and less projecting than the original. Clove is there and you get to wear it still proudly or not. Worth a sample for nostalgia.

I bought this blind- but at $20 for a 4oz bottle definitely worth the try. I strongly smell leather - I felt the dry-down was very fast and leather overpowered everything. Feels a bit like Etienne Aigner-Aigner Black for Men and that is not necessarily a bad thing especially if you like the smell of leather. I was hoping for a stronger sandalwood but I mostly get Pepper, Leather and Incense in this frag. Not great, but definitely not bad at all!

Super intense and dark opening. You would think it was made in 1991 not 2011. Mega silage for the 1st 4 hours of leather/pine and incense. Then somehow the rose kicks in with a hint of fruity notes. A very complex inexpensive scent with a lot of character. I am not a lover of dark scents but I do like the brightness that it has, but it takes too long to "kick" in. I will keep it in my collection though. Maybe I will grow to love it?

How the hell did something like this come out in 2011. A true love letter to the golden age of mens’ perfumery; a thicker, oilier, more leathery homage to the original Montana Parfum d’Homme. Awesome bottle too, just like its big brother. Looks like it may have been discontinued so grab it if you find it for a reasonable price.

This is equally good or even better and almost the same scent, without the oak moss, as Cartier Pasha, just more calm, rounded and softer, the notes are also more prominent and opulent, good lasting power Edit: it's the same scent aroma as Aramis Havana and Roger & Gallet Open but much more juicy and opulent 8/10

This is a bomb, go soft with spray. This is a perfect mix between old and new style. Echoes of drakkar noir but not so sweet. Great rose,pine,Leather,Pepper and incense. Non for boy. Super performance. 9/10

Couldn't wait for full bottle to arrive. At $30 and free shipping, blind buying was a no brainer. The reviews were (are?) fantastic, comparing Montana to '80's powerhouses (I'm a HUGE fan of the '80's!) and the notes were a gathering of many of my favorites..how could I possibly go wrong? Well.. Nothing added up for me. The opening was blah and artificial..chemical maybe a better word. No pine, no leather, no really anything...simply an aura that a fragrance had just been sprayed...totally generic. I was truly at a loss to identify any one accord...yet it wasn't unpleasant. Very much like a bathroom spray...you don't sense any one feature save the fact that a room spray was just used. To my nose that's Montana Black Edition. It's been 3 hours since I first sprayed myself and it's settled down to barely a skin scent...a non descript skin scent. To be fair, I can detect black pepper..but only black pepper. Did I get a bad bottle? I really wanted to like this but to my nose, there's nothing to like. Going to fish the box out of the garbage and take some time deciding what I'm going to do with this disappointment.

I’m gonna try to be really careful before saying anything I might regret. All Montana Perfumes have been blind-buys so far. Graphite and Parfum d’homme did not strike me that much for a start. But both have really grown on me after a while. The quality is not top but who cares? They cost so little, so you can apply and re-apply. The story with black edition is a little bit different. I do not advise to overspray or you might faint. Or those around you. The opening is very, very loud. Super masculine. Reminds me of the masculine iconic scents of the 80’s. Drakkar Noir, Jazz, Tsar, Xeryus. Incense? Leather? Ok yes but I find it also very green and woodsy. Let’s say dark green. I was hoping for something more incensy, more powdery. Pepper is there as well but I wish it was more prominent as in Cacharel pour Homme. So I’m not spellbound to say the least. But I will give it many more chances, and who knows, I might be seduced again.

Dark but different from the original which i prefer This one is dark with a rubber note , something similar to asphalt under the sun . For me it"s a mix between "Nostalgia" from Santa Maria Novella and "Black" from Bvlgari . A deeper version of "Midnight in Paris" VC & A , also I can't say i like it , compared to the original, but it's ok if you want something a little different , alluring

A peaceful and rustic fragrance with a bit of moody overtone. Reminds me of the Tales From The Darkside tv show intro. A blast of Indian Summer in early October with a flirtatious warm breeze that can't quite close the deal enough to get you truly comfortable due to Autum's cool arrival. Montana Black is basically a back and fourth grudge match of new school meeting old school (shades of Halston Z-14). Lots of pine and peppery orange meeting a faint rose and incense. This juice creates a jagged yet refreshing experience that is preparing you for the colder days ahead. Definitely black worthy, as it's name suggests. Most people are going to like this scent. It's bold but smooth with a tinge of mysterious character involved. And although it's not something you're going to smell at the mall, it will have enough crowd pleasing effect to make women want to get close to you and ask what you're wearing. I could almost see this as a year round scent if a guy fit the right attitude. It's best suited for Fall, but could work well in early to mid Spring too, do to it's rosey, floral nature. Montana black is a mature scent for sure. Probably best suited for 30 and up. If you like modern pines like Issey Miyake Blue, or even old school pines like Halston Z-14, give this one a shot. They're in the same ballpark, sporting that outdoorsy evergreen presentation. Montana Black however is where both past and present collide underneath the popularity radar, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

I’ve had Montana Black Edition for a couple years now - I purchased it at the tail end of a months-long obsession with 80s powerhouse fragrances (and more modern throwbacks like this and Rogue’s Bon Monsieur). While I’ve always liked it, recently I dusted it off and have been really loving it. It’s one of those fragrances that I just have a hard time describing in a way that isn’t abstract and wishy washy. So here’s some wishy washiness: To me this smells like a man who just showered with a classic and pungent bar of soap and put on a jacket that he maybe smoked a few cigarettes in the weekend prior. It doesn’t smell like smoke, but it’s got a very pleasant cigarette ash tinge to it. I really love the opening of this and it remains pretty linear until deep in the drydown. I’ve heard this compared to Drakkar Noir and I just did not see that until recently. I realized that deep deep in the drydown, yup, it starts to turn into a soapy DN type smell. If I can find another bottle I’m gonna get it.

Black Edition shares the same base DNA as the original- obviously related, but it’s much less spicy. That cinnamon-aldehyde bright/warm juxtaposition is replaced by a smoother, mellower experience. Black is a much less complex, swirling, scent. It’s the original streamlined for modern tastes... only if by modern they meant the 1990s. There’s that piney soapiness that, at one time, took the world by storm... yes, the echoes of Drakkar Noir emanate from this dark tower. If you love Drakkar, you’ll love this. Not a clone by any means, but you’ll be reminded of it. Montana Black is quite addicting for me, but I admit to my view being tainted by a heavy dose of nostalgia from another black-bottled gem..

This is really interesting parfum. it is like dark spicy smoky leathery aromatic fougere “ a dark green “ it has also some rose and other flowers which gives little softness.while pepper, pine, cedar and incense keeps it dark and sharp .There is a lot of layer and depth to this one. I also love the bottle; inspired originally by tower of the Babel and also inspired artwork from Vladamir Tatlin . This will have firm a place in my collection next to Durbanos Black Tourmaline Jacomo de Jacomo and other “ dark parfums “ Unfortunately new bottle (2021) doesn’t have very strong performance as some people are describing here. It is still above average.

This feels like about 70% of the original, though it begins with a definite Drakkar Noir quality. After an hour or so much of that is gone, and then It's more like the original combined with a recent "dark" quality. They did a fine job with this, and it lasts long with at least fairly good projection.

I got a sample of this thrown in to an order of other samples. I like it. The pine scent is nice and not overpowering and the pepper works well. There is a little sweetness behind it.

Hmmm...I wonder if this might be the same as my very mysterious bottle called Noir Sacree....the same bottle and box with a different name..... Cheers matz in Stockholm

i just got this bottle today. opening is very powdery for me that i dont like, i am gonna review back in few hours again to see how this fragrance end up on skin.

This is very good, for me it is a sweeter Gucci Nobile, Good performance and with a good price.
