Black Meisterstuck

A 4.4 rating with 173 votes (edit: now a 4.39 with 244 votes). Clearly people are enjoying this even if a lot of the early reviews suggest otherwise. I am a huge fan of Jordi Fernandez and tested this against a number of his (and others) incense fragrances, including Versace Encens Supreme, Ojar Eagle Eyed Stranger and Encens Cuivre, CdG Black, Joop Absolute and others. Black Meisterstuck was my favorite. Why? Well many reasons but the first is that it's way more interesting than the three note breakdown suggests. It's a very nuanced citrus, smoky incense and spicy amber affair, with each of these 3 core elements being wonderfully faceted. It opens with a wonderful sour lemon note coming from the elemi, ginger and frankincense flanked by a bit of sulfur of a snuffed match. There's clearly smoky gaiac wood rendered in my favorite way ever, much as it appears in 24 Gold (also by Jordi), Joop Absolute, or CdG Wonderoud. There's an unlisted note of dark lavender absolute (like lavender but not aromatic, instead sweet, dark and smooth) hovering above the incense. As it progresses to the mid a wonderful nutmeg joins the fray. The sharp ginger and nutmeg, and the way the lavender is incorporated does recall Gucci Envy in some ways; they could be siblings. Meisterstuck is the rebellious one, his clothes are darker and music heavier. The base is a culmination of all that came before, now including vetiver, and amber note that recalls woody, dried honey, an airy incense a clean white smoke note (no creosote here). The purple - so dark it is almost black - lavender absolute note wraps the base in its enigmatic cloak. The base is dark in hue but hovers above the skin with an ethereal lightness, a wonderful duality that is actually present from the very beginning and keeps the fragrance intellectually engaging for the whole ride, simultaneously utterly captivating. Wonderful stuff. Signature scent worthy... I'm not sure it won't become my very own. One last thing to add: this sits in that beautiful space same as Gucci Envy or V&R Antidote, heavy notes rendered unusually lightly. Extremely complex compositions that are so simply enjoyable, revealing different facets with each wearing. Not a "daring niche" but so far from a typical designer scent... It feels like these kind of scents belong to their own category: timeless. A platonic form captured in a bottle, rendered into reality.

a real man's perfume june 2025, istanbul. i was walking down my favorite streets in my favorite city, thrilled to be meeting the love of my life. i'd sprayed a few spritzes of ombre nomade on my clothes, haha. i walked into a perfume shop near the cocktail bar where i was waiting for her, carrying the huge bouquet of peonies i'd bought for her. after walking a bit, i saw this perfume, which i'd been hearing for a while, in real life for the first time. i went and sprayed a few spritzes on my wrist. it had an intense incense scent and smelled like the man i wanted to be – like my father. then i met her, with her blonde hair and perfect facial harmony. she was beautiful enough for a cocky guy like me to actually fall in love, haha. she didn't even notice the endless sillage of ombre nomade; she immediately recognized the black meisterstrück scent on my wrist and said, "that's a perfect perfume, you have great taste." then she kissed my wrist. it started wonderfully, and that wonder lasted for months. until I found out he cheated on me at a pool party during a trip to london. those days were a nightmare, hahaha, i remember wandering around like a ghost, smiling. life is beautiful, the only thing left of those bad days is this new perfume bottle i discovered and my reluctance to ever get to know anyone again. i remember those things with a smile too. i know i'm rambling a bit, guys. as a niche perfume collector, this perfume holds a special place for me. you will find the finest blend of incense. think of high-quality matte black woolen clothes, like sandro, kiton. i'm saving you the trouble of thinking about the best perfume to go with them. because this perfume is the answer. you'll smell like a completely different man, a real man. like a man who rose from the flames and rebuilt his own empire.

I already left a review on this but it’s so good. It needs a follow up: I’ve had a small bottle of this for quite a bit now and I think I’ve decided that it’s one of my favorite fragrances of all time, to the point where I just bought a 125ml bottle, just in case it ever gets reformulated, as someone whose favorite note is incense (every type) I can say this is the highest quality incense i have EVER smelled in a fragrance period, and the fact that you can get this on discounters for less than $100 is absolutely insane, it lasts so long and projects like crazy, to describe it, it’s basically just incense, there’s not much more in here it’s very linear, but that’s what I like about it, gives you the best incense smell imaginable and it stays like that, it just smells like a really fancy church burning super expensive incense with just a tiny bit of added Amber to make it very wearable, if you’re an incense lover like i am PICKED THIS UP NOW also on a sidenote, Montblanc’s private line is extremely underrated the whole thing is , I think people kind of overlook it because it’s priced lower than a lot of other private lines, but it honestly goes head-to-head with some of the most praised private lines out there, (like dior or tom fords) especially as far as quality goes, this is legit niche quality stuff and I can’t praise it enough

I’ve always loved Montblanc fragrances, so I picked up Black Meisterstück without much thought, and the first whiff was all incense. It had this rich, smoky vibe that felt like walking through a temple. There was a fresh, almost lemony sweetness lingering as well, which reminded me of Light Blue Pour Homme Summer Vibes. It turned out to be vetiver, which some describe as citrusy, adding a unique brightness. It’s got depth with the creamy amber in the heart, keeping it sweet and slightly balsamic. Over time, the incense remains close to the skin, but the amber projects more, balancing smoke with warmth. The dry-down is woody, with a light earthiness that feels almost like oakmoss, though vetiver remains dominant. Overall, it feels like the kind of fragrance you want to wear when you need something that’s classy yet personal. This one felt like my signature scent the moment I smelled it—deep, smoky, but surprisingly fresh and wearable for hours. Even days later, the scent clung to my hoodie that I keep in the car, still retaining much of its original character from the initial spray. In short: Black Meisterstück by Montblanc is a smoky, woody fragrance with an incense-heavy opening, amber heart, and earthy vetiver that surprises with its citrusy brightness. Perfect for those seeking a classy, long-lasting fragrance.

Montblanc Black Meistertuck is a smoky, leathery and woody fragrance. The smell of the fragrance is smoky, and it also has olfactory aspects that reminded me a little of wooden posts covered in asphalt paint, which is a bit similar to the smell of a leather accord. The incense is handled in a more smoky than ecclesiastical way. Despite being declared amber, it seems to me that it smells more like leather and spices, in addition to the fact that the aroma is the same from beginning to end without changes in its olfactory development. This fragrance from the Collection line is also very elegant, for formal use or special situations, it could even be used in the office as a signature scent. I think a middle- to mature-aged audience will like it more than young people, but that's just my perception. Its longevity is good, lasting almost 8 hours, but its olfactory sillage is very short, except for the first hour where you can perceive bursts of the smell, the rest of the time it remains very close to the skin. All the bottles in this line look great, they are very elegant, but the Black Meistertuck one is probably the most beautiful of all, since it resembles an inkwell.

No way Montblanc in fact did this. The composition is indisputable from the ultra-niche world. Incense is photorealistic and became a main glue in this experience. The smoke itself is viscous, with prominent resin sourness, nutmeg and pepper spiciness, and multiple different flowers that, when combined with amber, add warmth It’s a dark and mysterious composition that immerses you into an absolute void - without space, time, and matter. It’s a trip in a world that nobody has been into and will never be again. The world where you are an observer without eyes. The brain is not used to such scenarios, so it tries to paint at least something using imagination, but the more you try to build some associations, the more this void devours you. And this experience doesn’t make you frightened to death, quite the opposite - you already know what awaits you at the end... Fantastic experience that none of the designers would dare try to create. This review and association should be written for one of Filippo Sorcinelli's fragrances, but Black Meisterstuck totally deserves it. This is the best recognition that this fragrance could get, and it says everything

WOW. Deeply resinous, resounding, and rich. Yet so elegantly simple. When you first spray it on, you'd be forgiven for thinking it smells spicy and peppery and almost cola-esque; however, this initial burst of curiosity immediately dries down into one of the loveliest expressions of pine/cedar/woody notes I've ever smelled. Really reminds me of the sappy parts of pine trees, like running your fingers through a pile of pine needles and getting tack between your fingers. Its very linear but its not trying to be anything other than what it is, much like the namesake for which Montblanc is already known. The longevity is still up in the air (pun intended) as its too hot to wear heavily in the New York City summer. Sillage is admirable; the few times I have worn it (even sparingly in this humidity) I find myself getting surprise little sniffs of it just going about my day, so I can imagine a few extra sprays would really have this one singing. I can imagine this becoming a signature scent for the 'ber months, and for life, too.

At first I thought it was too linear when I first sprayed it. Not bad or sharp or unpleasant at all, just sort of plain. I thought it needed bergamot or something to give it a little lift. Flash forward and I'm hooked. It needs nothing. It smells incredible. I'm wearing it on a hot day, too. It smells like what the devil would smell like when he comes to collect your soul in exchange for the ability to play blues music. It smells cool. It's the smoky scent of my dreams. It's like a beautiful portrait of smoke. It's so unbelievably wearable, too. The sillage is just alright, but the projection is pretty good, and I'm definitely in a pleasant little bubble. The drydown just becomes more interesting with time, and I feel like it plays so well with my skin chemistry. I'll be picking this one up for sure. For around eighty bucks this is a great deal. This smells niche and high end and better than $300+ dollar fragrances I've smelled, and the bottle is quite nice, so to me it's worth it. This is a gem.

Unutmamak lazim ki bu bir parfüm ve özellikle kokması icin yapilmis. Ekşimsi bir tütsü kokusu bu mürekkep havasini veriyor. Tütsü sevmeyenler bu parfümü beğenmeyebilir. Ancak veriver ve baska katkılar ile bu klasik tutsuden biraz farkli. Biraz soğuk ve düz. Bu ise onu mürekkep kokusuna yaklaştırıyor. 40 üstü erkekler icin uygun. Kalite hissiyatı yuksek. Koleksiyon içinde Leather ile birlikte bunu beğendim. Bitaz daha sicak ve modern mürekkep isterseniz o zaman Patchouli ink olanı denemeniz lazim. O mürekkep havasından biraz uzak ama daha genç işi. Mont Blanc bu seri de bence iyi iş çıkarmış. Turkiye de indirim le 100 euro altina düşüyor ve bu seviye bir parfum icin iyi fiyat.

Sweet, fresh, spicy, full bodied incenses. I collect various incense sticks and resins and this is very similar to what I smell whenever I open the drawer where I store them. I keep all kinds of stuff in there, lots of scented incense sticks like GR and Nag Champa, various resins, oud chips and Palo Santo, and this fragrance smells very similar to that amalgamation. It's woody and smoky, it has that spicy funk you get from those indian incense sticks, especially during the opening, while the drydown is more Elemi forward. It's not too dense or heavy, so it's it still very wearable but it's definitely not for everyone, you really need to like incense to be into this. I think it's pretty unisex though. It performs really well on my skin with great projection and decent longevity. I personally think that this might be one of the more unique incense scents out there, cozy, dark and elegant but fun and not too serious.

Wow - very natural woody, herbal scent. Smells like a mediterranean countryside after a rain shower. Signature scent capable. Also, this kind of scent is quite novel. If you like the style of Encre Noir you might like this one. You will stand out. And smell like nothing which has been there or a twist of any other fragrance. Very professional. You will be noted but not headache inducing. One of my top 10 fragrances and I would buy it again. ON my skin the longevity is +10 hours. I don't think is so male fragrance as people are voting. I liked a lot of vétiver base is addictive. I did put in my wish list 🖤 I like it a lot I'm divided between this an StarOud❤️ I'm addicted to it, I go every day near my work place to smell it😂 Great, amazing, on my skin the vétiver became kind of sweet. I can't wait to have it in my collection ❤ Update: I got this at Sephora month ago, and it was fake. I was so upsetting. I tested on my skin quite a lot, innumerous times. Every time I was able to smell the amazing vétiver and all facets of the fragrance, but when I wear from the bottle that I purchased at Sephora in 5 minutes fades away, even when I sprayed the alcohol it was very prominent, different from the bottle that I tested. So long short history I just gave it back. So pay attention even Sephora can sell us fake bottles. I will buy directly from Mont Blanc store.

It took me a while but I got there in the end. I was put off by the name, the bottle and the inspiration (an overpriced pen). I decided to say if asked “a montblanc” feigning to forget the actual name, and I also decided to keep it in an out of sight part of the bathroom vanity. The smell? OMFG. The dry down is the most exquisite thing I’ve smelt in a very long time. I actually don’t remember that feeling in a long time. It’s a very familiar smell. But also unlike anything I’ve smelt in terms of quality. Woodsy but a clean wood smell. I love woodsy fragrances but go off them very quickly because of Bisch-screech factor - that turpentine/mineral/fake palo santo smell. This is supremely natural smelling. It’s like black or blackpepper by comme des garçons with better sillage and much less screechy/synthetic smelling. Outstanding outstanding scent.

Montblanc Black Meistestück (or Black masterpiece) is a real masterpiece of perfumes form exclusive “Meisterstück” series of Montblanc. It has deep, woody and a little bit smokey smell. Despite neing defined as unisex, I think this is a perfume for men. This perfume is so rich and palying with diggerent notes, but at the same time so easy to wear! Because the smell is not so hard, this perfume is suitable for a day as well (I think for evening and/or noght better) for a nice dress occasions. You will feel yourself confident by any means with tons of compliments. The people around you will be really attracted, but the smell will not shout about your presence. It will firmly but confidently will signature it. Suitable both for outdoor and office, easy to wear.

Tried this at duty free yesterday — sprayed both wrists, walked around, and had to go back for another hit on my neck before boarding. It’s intoxicatingly beautiful: dark, mysterious, and almost cathedral-like. I couldn’t stop smelling my arm all day. It projects a strong, confident, almost commanding aura — noticeable but not offensive, just undeniably present. It reminds me a lot of Loewe 7 (which I adore), but this feels sleeker, more linear, and somehow higher in quality. It lasts longer too, achieving what Loewe 7 aimed for with fewer notes. Nearly 24 hours later, I can still catch faint traces after showering. Bravo to the perfumer — please don’t ever reformulate this masterpiece. If you love Loewe 7, you’ll love this even more.

It literally smells black & white if that makes sense - an inherent vintageness. This has definitely got a charm to it. Comforting even if you were brought up smelling incense in an old Gothic church. I get a bit of bright freshness from somewhere but nothing in the notes indicates what this might be! Strong resemblance to Le Labo Vetiver 46 to me but a bit louder and sweeter on the drydown. It does have some underlying ‘inky’ smell, hard to describe but it adds rather than subtracts from the overall smell profile. Sillage decent, good scent profile and decent longevity. Bought it for under £50 in the UK and at that price it’s a good pickup. RRP would be a bit of a stretch but overall, it gets an 8/10 from me.

Es increíble lo que hay en BM. En mi piel al menos, la proyección es íntima, ni siquiera moderada, pero es una fragrancia muy bella. El incienso y el ámbar son los protagonistas, pero nada abrumador ni ofuscante, siempre suave y acompañándote. Si pego la nariz a mi piel, el vetiver está ahí presente, dando ese ligero amargor que mantiene al ambar a no sentirse pesado ni súper dulce. Yo lo uso en todos los climas y siempre funciona, inclusive a 35 grados, calor y sudor, no molesta, al contrario, de alguna manera, resulta refrescante. No creo sea compra a ciegas, pero no veo manera que no guste esta fragrancia a cualquiera que guste de perfumes bien hechos, de calidad y no súper juveniles. 10/10

I was at the London airport duty-free, with a 12 hour flight to America awaiting, I wanted to spray something on myself test out, I just so happened to pick this, and GOOD LORD this stuff is emasculate 😭😭 it lasts indefinitely im taking I was still able to smell this on my wrist after the full 12 hour flight and that’s with washing my hands multiple times, as far as the scent goes just imagine a BEOND niche level Ambury incense and thats it , just the best incense i have ever smelled for over 12 hours, I immediately bought a bottle 10/10 (ps: incense is literally in my top 3 favorite notes so me saying this is the best incense is a big thing)

Very classy. It does lean slightly masculine but it's neutral - if you like dry, smoky incense anyone could wear it. I think it's a great cooler weather incense, I'd definitely say it's more suited to autumn and winter. It vaguely reminds me of Voice of the Snake, but much drier and lighter. I definitely 'get' myrrh and maybe Frankincense, it's lemony, like both fresh resin and burned incense. There's probably a touch of synthetic musk in here, but not heavy, thankfully. My husband likes it, might be a nice Christmas gift!

I’ve had this on my list for a while and finally pulled the trigger on it at the duty free in Cancun! Starts off heavy with the incense and vetiver and churchy vibe but once it drys down a bit it’s a Ambery vetiver with what I’m guessing is the ink or incense accord I think the right person would be able to pull this off as a daily but might not be suitable for work environment. I think this good be great entry level incense for people wanting to try it out. Overall 8.5/10 for me

Black Meisterstuck is incense of a quality that most niche brands couldn't even hope to capture. the dry down is something has to be experienced to understand just how special this scent is. Montblanc has made magic with this collection; this is the third of the line that I have tried (owning bottles of Patchouli Ink and Neroli Letters) and all three punch far above their weight in terms of quality. I am eager to get my hands and my nose on the other three in the near future.

You know it’s good when I have to write a third review on it just to glaze it😭 wearable Amouage level incense, and it gets compliments, in fact, almost every time I’ve worn it I’ve had at least one person ask what I’m wearing, I’m starting to think this is one of the greatest frags ever made, if you like incense this is literally blind buy worthy it’s the highest tier niche level incense and Amber for under $100 on discounters, I can’t say enough about it

I don't know what it is about this fragrance, but I keep coming back for more, dark but fresh, light but heavy its a solid fragrance for anyone looking for a deep fragrance to wear daily (unless its extreme heat I feel it would be to much). You get this peppery deep dark smell with the first spray but then it settles into a fresh deep scent that people will notice. Unique check, masculine no fruit bubble here check.

This surprised me. Based off the reviews I was expecting... Well, I don't know. It's not as you'd expect based off of the bass notes. It's 100 percent an easy cop, it's clean, masculine, sexy... Classy. it's really very nice. I have a decant and it's not quite as strong as the scores suggest. I expect a full bottle may be different and I've seen it as low as £77... Which is mental really. Love it.

This is very interesting. I kind of like it even actually I don't like incensy smoky perfume. This definitely have a classy gentlemanly vibe to it. Dark but still very wearable. Niche quality. A breath of fresh air compare what currently released. I need to take sometime to judge it if this suit my taste. But for someone who like an incense smoky fragrance this is something you need to try.

So just to hop on James1995's review, this is a safe blind buy IF you like incense! Now I don't know exactly how catholic incense smells and I don't know if most non catholic ppl do, but it is very similar to Montale Full Incense or cdc Avignon. So if you like that type of incense you won't find this offensive. The rest is a modern beast mode Sephora-like men's frag, on the higher end.

this is such a beautiful inky incense scent. Dark, mysterious and perfectly matching the color of the fragrance. The combination of incense and ink creates an awesome masculine vibe, retro, formal and old-school, like a dark office with wooden furniture and leather. Honestly feels much more niche than expected. Congrats to Montblanc for creating something this interesting. 9/10

I just purchased in Harrods for £53 summer sale. I was hooked from the first sniff. Wow! The quality of this at this price point ! I purchased straight away! I think this is pretty unisex . I am a lady and also wear Purpose 50 f. I enjoy incense and amber. This is gorgeous ! I am enjoying this in London at 31 degrees Celsius .

Oh wow, this is really good. Very incense heavy, slightly sweet and calming aroma for me. Smells a little similar to the incense in Rocky Mountain wood. In fact, I’ve been searching for a frag that replicates that scent for quite some time now and I’ve found it. This will be worn quite a bit this fall and winter.

Instant hit. Outstanding quality for $100 AUD. Moderate to strong projection. Easily 8-9 hours wearing 3-4 sprays. It’s fairly linear on my skin. Incense, ink and earth with the slight ambery sweetness, and masterfully blended. This one’s getting belted over winter and spring.

This is a masterpiece. Too bad I live in Brazil and will most likely never be able to use it without feeling sick. I have maybe 2/3 weeks in the years where I could use it. So take that in mind if you live in an all year around hot weather country.

This perfume is outstanding, I walked past it several times the last few weeks and just ignored it, assuming it wouldn’t be anything special....I was very wrong Along with Kilians incense oud, this is now my favourite incense scent

Very unique smell, i get a bit of a note of ink, it may be that they have taken reference from one of their pens, but smells really good very classy and performance is amazing, easily 10 hours on skin with solid projection. 9/10

Not sure on many. What Jordi Fernández did here is a... masterpiece. Montblanc has a 10/10. Montblanc thank you. Made the best decision with this collection. For gentlemen and people who can write cursive.

Ill say, this is beautifully crafted incence perfume, non-offensive, not churchy like smell. But like every Montblanc perfume, on my skin is lasting short, but that doesnt mean that it should be rated low.

Simply beautiful scent. Classy, smooth, black pepper, definitely more masculine, yet not overpowering. I've received numerous compliments while wearing it. I'll be stocking up on this one.

Fruit tea, fruity pipe tobacco, strong black tea, soft incense and quality vetiver. It has a light, airy quality that keeps it very wearable but it's definitely not for everyone.

Slept on. One of the most wearable incense-forward fragrances I have ever smelled. Beautiful nostalgic quality to it as well.

No one is impressed by you, your nose or your decade of sniffing. The gall to chastise a fellow frag head for not writing a review you approve of and to then not write a review yourself, lol cute. And then there is the ad hominem attack, which you executed very poorly. You are insulting a review he wrote and then biffed it at the end by criticizing his reading skills. Good job, a non sequitur in one sentence. Absolutely delicious, chef’s kiss. And then lastly, the Axis Mundi, you quoted his review. You know, the review you do not approve of 🤣. But we are glad that you did because it appears to have been removed. In the end you are wasting more of our time than the other guy. At least he is giving a certain demographic actionable intelligence. You are just demanding to speak to the manager. Anyway since you like reviews here is mine. Not bad. I am getting incense, amber, and black pepper accord. No wheels were reinvented here but this is nice and wearable. Projection is fair at best because it comes and it goes. I usually reject fragrances that perform like this but I enjoy how it smells and considering our inflationary times this is downright cheap. I hope my wife likes it as much as the ladies Johnny Drakkar has been running into do. Not that we need it considering how this afternoon went 😉

This is SOOOOO GOOOD!!! ****A Great designer scent for people who don't want to spend an arm and a leg on niche, and I love me some Niche. This, for the price, it's perfect and it lasts long. In my opinion this is the sleeper of Mont Blanc when it comes to Dark and mysterious. The smoke that's in this fragrance is not overpowering or a cigarette smelling smoke. It's actually palatable. Maybe it's the Amber and vetiver that take away from the harsh smoke. THIS is dark and mysterious done correctly. For me I don't like smokey fragrances. Even though I love myrrh and frankincense. When they pair those 2 notes with smokiness it smells like standing next to a fire pit for hours and it's on your clothes. Amber mixes awesome with Frankincense and myrrh. The vetiver adds to this perfectly. I then looked up the price and I could not believe the deal that you would get with this fragrance. To me it smells Niche. For the longevity and sillage and scent I'd say it's the perfect price. Not groundbreaking and not Amouage strong, but this is really nice. 3 notes, who'da thought? If you like this...you have to get your nose on Black Gemstone. THAT one is perfection. Turns incensey and myhrr in the drydown! Smh. Mind boggling good.
