Patchouli Ink

Well fuck me. I did not expect this to be so good! Montblanc? Sounds more like a bike/car company than a perfume company! But, I'll happily take this scent over any other patchouli-based aroma. It is bombastic; as soon as you apply it, it dominates and tells your skin that it is in control and it's not fucking shifting. Your skin obeys it's commands, to the absolute letter, allowing it's intrusive scent profile into every aspect of your being. It also doesn't stop there - it wants the souls of all those around you, and it will stop at nothing to get it's grubby mitts on them. It is such a beautifully dirty and dark as fuck scent profile. It smells like you've been on a massive, muddy walk, through the green countryside, and you've had an amazing time doing so. It really is as bold as brass - people will smell this on you from great distances, like nervous deers during hunting season. If you want to blend in with the humans, do not wear this perfume. Your next door neighbors will be complaining that their house stinks of it, should you be bold enough to wear it at home. The patchouli in it is used to great effect; harmoniously blending with ease with all of the other notes. It puts it's dirty spunk into every section, and mingles it's corrupt DNA with all other scent notes in the profile. Bergamot too - very cleverly used. Possibly one of the most overused perfume ingredients, it is given a new lease of life in Patchouli Ink. This perfume is dark, dangerous and it wants your soul. 8/10. It does well, but it lacks a story, so it loses two points.

I like it. EDIT: this punches WAY ABOVE ITS PRICE! I LOVE IT! Very clean and civilised Patchouli, turns soapy a bot on my skin which I love. Now the interesting part: the INK! Yesssss... I feel like I am actually wroting with a Montblanc pen. The ink stays on the full length. On top of some wood... a lot of wood lol. Don't feel any vanilla as a sugary vanilla, but a vanilla root, like real vanilla unprocessed and raw. Backs the drydown. Suitable more for serious occasions, like going to the opera or some secret club meeting. Good longevity, great presentation, very serious and elegant... interesting composition! If you like Patchouli yes. If you like "different" yes. It smells niche, expensive and like OLD MONEY AND ELEGANCE (dressed accordingly) 10/10 Fabrice Pellegrin and Montblanc

From my first impressions on this scent, it was definitely my favorite in the collection and an instant love. I remember trying le labo's patchouli but can't comprehend the comparison because I remember not liking it as much as a patchouli scent. Definitely needs a revisit. Not sure if the note breakdown is accurate but I definitely smell a lot more going on. A very pleasant and alluring patchouli scent and priced reasonably considering the scent's unique traits and being a 120 ml bottle. It's a really solid scent considering the brand's uninspiring releases over the past years. This should be the direction taken by every other designer brand out there.

If I were a funeral director this would be my signature scent. Dark woods is a good description. I got a few samples of this and fell in love. It was unlike anything else I have worn. Very unique almost Black Orchid type of opening that transforms to a vanilla and what I can best describe as an earthy dark truffle. I agree with the consensus that it feels like a very formal fragrance. Smells way more expensive than it is and I like that. Edit: I applied this at 12:30 P.M. it is now 8:20 P.M. and as I am about to hop in the shower I still get pleasant whiffs of the fragrance. Non powdery vanilla is noticeable now.

I've been searching for the perfect patchouli. Many of them are two sweet or just not blended well. This one is perfect. I find this to be unisex; many have said it leans masculine but not to me. Perfect for male or female. Truly gorgeous on its own, but I also love to layer it with Santal Complet by Fragrance Du Bois. Absolutely stunning combination. It is a bit inky when first sprayed but let it dry down. Really beautiful, well-blended patchouli. The value is great too. Paid just at $100 bucks for 125 ml. Not bad at all.

One wonderfully modern, clean and not dirty yet thick, "black" and smooth patchouli. It’s quite linear, but the scent is lovely. This makes me think of a very dark, unsweetened and raw cacao, without smelling obviously like chocolate either. The "Ink" note is fantasized yet the overall feeling is very close to what you would think of if you had to guess or picture its smell.

Warm & smokey vanilla/patchouli with a splash of ink. Far less challenging than I anticipated, given the name. If you were looking at this specifically for the "ink" note, I'd keep looking. That being said, it's very pleasant. Definitely agree with the comparison to Le Labo's Patchouli 24. This has a very similar feel, but far easier to wear. It's more subtle & refined.

Gives me a tingling feeling in my nose almost like Dior savage and paci rabavage phantounge feel. Honestly lovely not npc but just great the vanilla not is not strong enough but when it dries down it’s amazing. But too strong for my liking but could be more stronger like stronger with you intesties. Love the bottle looks like a magnificent plum pie. Boom shakalaka.

Sotd: Montblanc Patchouli Ink (2024) - earth oxide - The creative #fabricepellegrin makes an interesting ink accord. Metallic, Vetiver, Green and Spicy. Combined with Patchouli makes an excellent juxtaposition between natural and synthetic. Cold & dark meets warm & soft. Supplemented by an amber accord & Iris base - strength meets vulnerability.

Really beautiful dark fragrance. Super earthy and inky with this deep forest vibe. Feels masculine, atmospheric, and kinda gothic. Gives me cinematic, moody, horror movie vibes honestly. You need to be a big fan of patchouli to enjoy this, the ink really enhances the earthy-herbal grassy vibes and gives it a very gloomy feel 8.5/10

This his is simply amazing! High quality formulation, very smooth patchouli with a hint of vanilla. Very well blended modern classic. Excellent longevity. I can still smell it on my skin after 12 hours and it projects beautifully. Very reasonably priced for what it is. Genderless and suitable for all seasons in my opinion.

This is a stunning fragrance! I was hooked the first time I smelt it and just had to have a bottle! To my nose, this is close to L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme Eau Extreme (LIDG Extreme) and Nasomatto Pardon. Great quality, gorgeous woody-patchouli composition with warm, slightly gourmand and cosy undertones.

I just picked this up as a duty free purchase on our way through the airport. One sniff and I was hooked! This reminds me so much of Bvlgari Patchouli Tentation. The scent to me is mesmerising - great for day or night and receives a lot of compliments. Let’s see what this one does!

I love this fragrance, but with all Montblancs on my skin is maximum 4 hours of longevity the most. The punch of ink is starting in the beginning but when is settling down patchouli and iris are coming on surface which I love. Great scent!

Just wearable version of LL Patchouly Like 👍

This smells like the dry down of Bentley for Men Intense, but with a little better quality, this is not a dig at the Bentley, it is still fantastic, rather it's what I get from this fragrance. I do like it, it's formal occasion fall and winter, day or night, but it's not sensual or romantic, just classy. The woods that you get in the Bentley are accentuated with some earthy patchouli, with a tiny hint of that chocolate that we associate with Patchouli, but just a hint of it. There is no intense vanilla, but just enough to create that particular patchouli sweetness that comes in the dry down. The majority is woods, a combination of cedar, vetiver, and sandalwood, the latter being the backbone of the woody accord. They say we wear the scent for it's dry down, and true to that expression the dry down is the nicer part of this fragrance. Wear it before you leave the house, and it will be at its best when you get to your destination. Longevity is great, and when it dries down, it will not overpower anyone, unless you go heavy on the trigger. Again, it's good, but not the best patchouli out there. My favorite is still Patchouli Leaves from Montale followed by Psychedelic from Jovoy. One last thing, I can only imagine this one worn with a tweed brown jacket, herringbone preferably, but that's me. It has no resemblance to Bentley for Man Absolu, it's the Intense, and only when that fragrance dries down after two hours or so.

This should have always been Mont Blanc's signature scent. It really does smell like the ink of a luxury pen and it smells amazing. It's fairly linear with its transitions but all notes perfectly blend together for a luxurious experience. This scent has me considering buying a worthy Mont Blanc pen. This scent is appropriate when closing deals. After you throw on the business suit, and put on your shiniest hard bottoms, grab that Mont Blanc pen to seal the deal and spray on Patchouli Ink to complete the vibe. There is a some similarity to Givenchy Gentlemen EDP, another business minded scent that I love. So if you love that scent, you will most likely love this scent too.

What a turn around. The unpleasant notes faded after a time and I am left with an Oud for greatness, BR540, patchouli conglomeration. Not too shabby. Plays it a little close to the skin but all in all 👍 I do not like this at all. Spice and patchouli ok sounds good. But the ink. It is like a wet woolen blanket tossed over the whole composition smothering an otherwise middling at best fragrance. There is a metallic edge to this. Reminds me of Quinton Bisch’s work, which I also don’t like. There is also a sour note. Was the scent profile determined by a bunch of chimpanzees throwing darts at posted notes? Because that is what it smells like.

Tom ford made it revolutionary when they made black lacquer, now every brand is trying to do an inky fragrance but they would all smell similar or close to TF black lacquer. Initially its very nice, masculine and little dark, not the best and i couldn’t say it would make a signature scent for anyone but old people. I would say its good for night outs but mainly for grownups

A toned down, smoother version of Le Labo’s Patchouli 24 with a noticeable ink accord. The patchouli, while prominent, isn’t dirty or overpowering (as it tends to be when used as the main player). While this range is largely derivative, they are executed as more safe and elegant alternatives to familiar fragrances, while still remaining interesting enough

Quick test on paper, the patchouli note reminds me of the one in Crivelli's Patchouli Magnetik but this one is light and wearable. The ink note is very realistic. Just a hint of vanillaic sweetness as it dries down. I like it though Black Meisterstuck was my favorite of the four.

Bravo Montblanc for doing something this interesting! The opening is a really nice patchouli but it dries down to a sour ink and vanilla. Still not sure if I like the dry down, but it's definitely different compared to most high street fragrances.

Patchouli is super sweet and cinnamony. With a lot of imagination I can see a similarity to the smell of ink. Fragrance: 7/10, Longevity: 8/10, Sillage: 8/10, Flacon: 8/10.

Ink, patchouli and a hint of vanilla. I can definitely see the resemblance to the Tuxedo scent profile, but the ink dominates and takes it to a different direction - sharp and slightly metallic, turning woody in the late dry-down. Despite, or maybe because of, the ink it feels drier. Projection is quite poor unfortunately. I used around 10 sprays this morning, and after being hugged I was told that the fragrance I'm wearing is quite faint, so I would say Patchouli Ink is intimate. Let's see in a few months. It isn't unique but still is worth trying. Not blind-buy worthy. The bottle is classy, and a 125ml. at around $165 if you're in South Africa.

Nose Note #1115 Nasomatto Pardon, Jovoy Psychodelique, all very similar. Pardon is much more chocolatey, Jovoy is more stale. This is more woody. But it's all still the same grandma patchouli... Not very elegant, to me this grandma-ness is too obvious which makes it obnoxious in a way. And it's not a crowd-pleaser. Not masculine leaning in my opinion. Weird unisex just like other heavy mono-patchouli fragrances. Performance is satisfying. But I don't want to wear this after two testings... 5/10

I enjoyed it but wow it literally becomes a skin scent in 20 minutes. It’s a shame because it is a very nice composition. Love the ink note and sweet patchouli but man it doesn’t last at all so I returned my bottle. The search for a 💪🏾 vanilla patchouli continues..

This is an expensive version of Bentley Intense. The same boozy style, but well blended, superior quality and less cloying. It is my least favorite from the line. For sure for winter, not a good blind buy.

Burnt tires is all I smell. The patch is gone in the opening and you're left with just ink. Smells like old lady. I mean seriously, don't wear this people.

I really really had high hopes for this one and boy what a disappointment. Blind bought it based on notes - patchouli (my favorite note) and ink (another loved note), but this was nothing but disappointment. Patchouli is extremely muted and ripped from all its natural characteristics, and the ink... Where's the ink? I could not find much ink at all. This is just a mediocre amber that smells like a "refined" copy of Bentley for Men. I hate Bentley for Men, thus I hate this perfume. If you're looking for a real patchouli perfume here, you won't find it. What a waste of money and high hopes. Moral of the story - blind buying is such a gamble and really not recommended (but we all know this).

The worst of the bunch. On the card I get the patchouli, but on my skin it smells like olives. I'm not kidding, it literally smells like Spanish Purple olives in olive oil. It smells "culinary" rather then perfumey. Do not blind-buy, you've been warned! The 5* vote is certainly someone who hasn't even smelled it yet yet.

The ink in this is way too strong. It overpowers the other notes for me. If the ink was more toned down this would be much more enjoyable.

Patchouli Ink | Montblanc It’s very simple and easy to describe. A straightforward composition, yet well-executed, with an artistic and exotic appeal. There are no significant developments; just a subtle change in the intensity of the notes over time. At first, the ink note is intense, presenting an absolutely dark tone, slightly metallic with a leathery, plastic-like texture. This ink note blends with dried fruits (apricots, peaches, dates...), creating an aged fruity accord reminiscent of dehydrated fruits. In the background, there’s a creamy, chocolaty patchouli—a bittersweet chocolate with low sweetness borrowed from vanilla. In my experience, the ink note is the protagonist, standing out from the beginning and lasting throughout the fragrance, though it gradually loses intensity as hours pass. The chocolaty aspect of the patchouli becomes more prominent as the ink note fades, but they always remain intertwined and in perfect harmony. In summary: A dark leathery ink scent covered by the creamy, chocolaty smoothness of patchouli. The ink note has a dark/black tone but isn’t sweet, resinous, or balsamic. It’s of high quality and unlike anything I’ve encountered. The patchouli has creamy, buttery characteristics that closely resemble bitter chocolate with almost no sweetness. Patchouli , by nature, is a beast. You can put a tiny droplet on a shirt and even after a wash it's still there (no wonder it's so often used as a base). I love the "natural gasoline vibe" it dispenses. For the soul and spirit - patchouli is supposed to be "grounding" - and it does a good job at that! Mother Nature did a wonderful job creating this! I have been dog-paddling thru some brand name patchouli frags (Molinard , Reminiscence , etc.) looking for my "perfect patchouli" and no luck so far. And with Patchouli Ink - more NO luck. I never liked or trusted this brand either. The projection on this is zero. Waste of time. GRADE: D plus. Glad I did not buy a whole bottle ! Whew. (Thus far - my favorite patchouli is LUSH's Karma.)

Once in Florence, winter 2016. While walking past the drawings of Michelangelo’s David on the floor, I was almost pulled into Chanel’s Fragrance Boutique the moment I saw it— unconsciously, in some mysterious way. One fragrance caught my attention as soon as my eyes fell upon it: Coromandel. Man, I was truly stunned by that fragrance... white chocolate, creamy, and fresh all at once. I took the shot and bought it. But after a couple of uses, something started to bother me... wasn’t it too feminine for me? Yes, it was. Still, how could I part from this masterpiece that had made my trip so special as a fraghead? Fast forward to 2025—Montblanc Patchouli Ink crossed my path. I had finally found my manly Coromandel.

Trying to find a patchouli scent I like, and this one is good! It opens in a big bold flurry of green, earthy dankness with the bergamot and patchouli, and clings on for hours, dwindling down to that familiar patchouli hum alongside a slight vanilla edged warmth. Doesn’t project too much, but that’s okay. To me, it’s not even too mature - the best way I could describe it is the smell of the inside of a 90s hippies satchel. Or burning patchouli essence whilst huffing the soil. Real natural, real sour. Good stuff. I don’t think it leans masculine nor feminine. It just delivers a familiar patchouli dankness for everyone.

my new signature finally, after 10 years of searching! it’s the sexiest chocolatey patchouli vanilla , not too sweet not offensive but still with great character. I recommend this for people of all genders who’d like a super wearable vanilla patchouli that also happens to be a great people-pleaser if that at all matters. You can’t overspray, and get plenty on your clothes if you’d like for it to linger around all day. Suggest a re-spray after 6 hours. Phenomenal, and amazing price, can’t believe!!

I get a very smokey gaiac wood/incensey note on the opening. This note eventually dies down in an hour, but I think it combines badly with the sour aspects of the patchouli and bergamot. Takes the focus away from the patch-vanilla combo, not the execution I was hoping for but interesting none the less. The whole line is done amazing for designer fragrances, I like how natural materials, or at least a super close approximation, are combined with synthetics. Will definitely return to this.

Got my hands on a discovery pack for the line and this was the first cab off the rank. First sniff and now all the way through the dry down this reminds me of two very different perfumes from two very different cultures simultaneously: Bvlgari’s gorgeous Patchouli Tentation, and Swiss Arabian’s Mukhallat al Maliki. The rich, plush, suedey and vanilla patch of the former, and the fetid saffron funk of the later. This one is great en sillage, but up close, the funk irks me.

I recently purchased maybe 7 or 8 bottles of patchouli fragrances so when i sniffed this one at the fragrance store i was like meh, nothing mind blowing i put the test strip on my pocket and when i got home there was something in the air that i needed to smell more so i took out all the strips from different pockets and found the scent i was smelling it was so beautiful turns out it was the drydown of patchouli ink so i went back and bought it the next day.
