Garden of Hespera

My third daring scent-unsniffed purchase from the house of MOR, GARDEN OF HESPERA is very different from DAIA and FREIA, both of which claim on their packaging to be offering a waft of Scandinavian spring. “Very masculine” were the first words out of my mouth upon applying GARDEN OF HESPERA, as the composition opens as a classic woody oriental with a hefty dose of cypress, among other characteristically masculine notes. The composition dries down, however, as a smooth unisex with the fig note really asserting itself in the end. In some ways this composition reminds me of FEU D'ISSEY, but this one is a bit less intense. The packaging belies the unisex contents with its bulb atomizer and sleek, black-enamel coated swirled glass bottle with a round shape very typical of women's perfumes. Anyway, all in all, I can recommend GARDEN OF HESPERA to those who like their fig perfumes on the woody side. Definitely worth acquiring—if you can still find it! (6.09.11)

Not my favourite from this story launched in 2008 by Mor, that gong goes to Fruits of Cornucopia as the lantana bloom note makes my heart sing. Garden of Hespera is a well crafted fragrant journey in its own right however. Bay leaf features prominently throughout lending a masculine edge to the thickness of the composition. A sweet gingered fig and apple compote aid the semi-astringent character of the overall experience ensuring it remains unisex in nature. Fuchsia cyclamen petals, subtle musk and rose shrub greenery lead you through the gates into the garden eventually. This line has since been deleted and is currently being sold at official clearance outlets nationally here in Australia. Snatch yourself a bargain while you can!
