Al Andalus

[ 1 ] - AN INTIMATE ROYAL RHYTHM OUTSIDE THE MIND AND TIME : ❦ What a great successful beginning to discover MORESQUE house with this masterpiece, the nobility, gravity and royalty are the first thing come to my mind ❦ The name itself (AL ANDALUS) is quite expressive, which refers to the most advanced civilized era for human beings at that time, as MORESQUE were good at describing, they were good at creating, as if the imagination of the present embraces the reality of the past. ❦ I highly appreciate this type of genius perfumers and the creativity that turn scents like a time machine and makes you feel you are there, as if your entity, mind, feelings and sensations are being in another time and place. [ 2 ] – THE SCENT OF (AL ANDALUS) TYPE AND VIBE : ❦ The scent transitions are well rounded, and the best part appears, when the undertone start to play a slight role in the dray down, between the balsamic woody birch notes to give a hint of woody sweetness ❦ Well blended, long lasting, intimate projection and the rhythm of mellow notes are enough to create an elegant sillage ❦ It can be wearable by unisex, but at same time, I believe the versatility is more for men than for women, it’s not generic mass appealing, yet apparent ease to wear, it’s charming and joyful, yet not loud and playful. ❦ Personally, I can sense the velvety of ( AL ANDALUS ), is closer to ( DIOR HOMME PARFUM BY DIOR ) vibe, but without any similarity between the two scents or any perfumes that I have experienced. ❦ Finally, I hope these lines are helpful enough, to give a true impression of ( AL ANDALUS ) which I consider as underrated masterpiece.

Though this is not my perfect incense, this is a lovely, peppery-ginger "incense-like" scent that sits close to the skin. There is a soft sweetness to it that balances out the woods. There is little that is acrid, bitter, or even smokey; this has the sweeter aspect of incense. So no Avignon, or Heeley. The labdanum is balanced by the Tolu and vetiver, and the pepper is more noticeable at the beginning for about 30 minutes. Then it softens, becomes quite lovely. This is a unisex fragrance; it will smell wonderful on both men and women though I do think it's a warmer, ever so slightly sweeter, more "feminine" than many incenses which are harsher, acrid, intense. I really like even the most astringent "high church" or "gothic" ones, but this one is discreet, gentle, peaceful. Very well made. I may be springing for a FB after my decant is done.

It seems that 2015 was a good year for perfumes and Al Andalus is one of them. It is a great mix of amber and dry leaves with a fantastic papery drydown, subtle yet persistent. There is no pungent oud - it is refined into a faint cocoa dusted suede and dry driftwood. Nothing is loud at this perfume, which captures so truly the heart of Andalucía: I smell dried fruits (no sweetness, only the scent), rice powder, spices, good quality Spanish labdanum, the breeze of ancient oak forests, a bit of crushed cypress needles and olive leaves. It lingers all day long, coming and going as I walk, now is leathery, then is a bit soapy, later is dusty and warm.. I am traveling to Andalucía every time I wear this marvel. Oh, and I am a girl. It is a perfect unisex. Give it a go, it is more that you’ve bargained for.

If you are a fan of ginger or fresh spice in general you will be blown away By this fragrance. While testing this i wore it in comparison to Clive Christian X and Roja Creation E over a week long period and i must say this thing ran those two into the ground. the nuances that come off this thing are amazing. saffron is s crucial component that makes it superior. Very bottle worthy!

Love the balsam and oud combo. Hate something in this that made it plasticky, and I assume that to be the birch because birch tar also smell plasticky to me. So this is a like for me. Wish the birch gone and the balsam cranked up a bit.

Nice! It reminds me of Andy Tauer's l'air du Desert Moroccain: it has the same focus on amber. But it's not the same. Al Andalus is more wearable. It has a lot of ambroxan, maybe a bit too much. All in all, a really nice scent. 7,5/10

Al Andalus (Andalusia) is an alluring fragrance, reminiscent of the nature, vibrancy and scorching sun of the Andalusia region of Spain. It is a tribute to the most distant and western emirate (province) of the 'Great Islamic Arab Empire' that at its peak for more than 7 centuries dominated and stretched from western China through North Africa extending to the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal, Spain). The Moresque Al Andalus perfume opens in energizing and cheerful spicy notes, which awaken us like the first rays of the sun. The stimulating, fiery, and earthy trio of turmeric, black pepper, and ginger reveals a burst of intense heat. Its heart, with Indonesia's iconic 'Oud Jakarta Kalimantan, is protected and strengthened by essences of strong character: Haitian vetiver, French labenum and birch, all surrounded by an enveloping ambery accord that accompanies the fragrance throughout. The perfume starts spicy leathery earthy with the fiery ginger combined with pepper and leathery turmeric. Centered on the famous and renowned 'Oud Kalimantan, with a bittersweet woody facet and recognized among 'oud connoisseurs, as one of the best 'oud in the world, which, along with vetiver, brings a woody footprint to the fragrance. The tolú, labdanum with birch very noticeable, leave the resinous, balsamic, smoky perfume, which refers to a leathery accord, incense, warm and dry. Al Andalus behaves this way practically from start to finish, making it a somewhat linear perfume, but despite this, it in no way takes away from its extreme elegance, based on a very fine combination of Amber and Leather with 'Oud and Incense. Fragrance with a very arabesque character. It refers to the Souks of the East with aromas of spices, incense, fabrics and tannery hovering in the air. Alpha Male Perfume! Excellent quality, with very good performance.

Reviewing from a decant: Al Andalus opens very spicy, but smooth. Almost as if the spices had the edges rounded off. The ginger and pepper are most prominent to my nose. In the background, I sense a leathery feel (perhaps from the saffron and labdanum). Up close, the leathery nuance almost smells oily, but at a distance it comes across slightly powdery. The woods and resins are present, but very much overshadowed by the spices. The oud is not funky by any means. The birch adds a light smokiness, and there is a subtle resinous sweetness which I can only assume comes from the tolu balsam. I’m unsure where the vetiver comes into play, although I wonder if it is contributing to the oily smell. The fragrance overall comes across as one big accord, as it remains fairly linear throughout its life on the skin - the only change being the spices tone down as it dries. The combination of notes feels fairly dark, with the spices helping to provide a bit of brightness in the opening. Longevity on my skin was average. Aside from the initial blast of spices (I use the term “blast” loosely), the projection is fairly close to the skin for the majority of the wear. I’d say Al Andalus is very well blended. I did enjoy testing it out, but Al Andalus is not full bottle worthy for me (and fwiw, my girlfriend did NOT like this one). If you like dark, spicy leathery fragrances, I’d say it’s worth sampling.

This perfume features the precious & gorgeous Oud Kalimantan from Indonesia. Andalusian architecture of Spain is a marriage of Spanish & Islamic style, of horseshoe arches, detailed stucco walls, etc. Carrying that Moorish ethos & almost like a sunlit aura, this perfume is distinctly a masculine oriental, a very refined composition. It opens with an energizing ginger, soon to melt into that beautiful Oud. The fragrance is smoky, airy, very comforting & addictive. It's unique & I can't think of anything that smells close. Balsamic birch. That's what first hits me "Balsamic Birch". Then labdanum, black pepper, and tiny saffron with more and more birch birch birch. After few minutes in the vetiver comes up accompanying the birch. It's just too much of the 2 things i dislike the most birch and vetiver. Not at all thank you... Edit (13th Sept 2023) The more i try this one the more i lean towards liking it! its slightly dark leathery blend with doses of tolu balsam and (unfortunately) big doses of what i dislike Birch"! i just wish the vetiver, & labdanum are more than the birch.

Dominated by an eastern soul, this fragrance gave me an utter sense of quality and confidence. It has a clear and woody composition which highligths beautiful birch, vetiver and balsamic accords. I really enjoyed how decidedly solid the fragrance progressed. No dramatic changes over the course. Good projection for 6 hours. I can see a well dressed woman in an eastern style pulling this one off but i would say it leans towards to masculine side. Price worthy? Not really.

Powerhouse fragrance. Best from the entire black collection. Longevity beast and wonderfully crafted. Projects nice for first 5-6h. Component wise and the way it's done it's should have been a part of the art collection, instead of the Aristoqrati which was so underwhelming. Saffron and resins combination is out of this world, spicy, deep, intense! It's not a scent for prince but for sheikh. Strong-minded ladies can pull this gem off as well.

Drydown on this is incredible it changes a lot. Starts very spicy and leathery and then turns into a soft I guess mix of labdanum and saffron. I think there’s vanilla in here too. Very nice.

You are a prince from some eastern exotic country. And you are very handsome. And you wear Moresque Al Andalus. Beautiful fragrance with moderate projection and excellent longevity.

I own a bottle...Truly a beautiful fragrance....I think the ginger is the star!
