Re Nero

It is very similar to Jungle Elephant, but if you're one of those who thought the Kenzo smelled like a Christmas candle and didn't like it, try this one instead. Here there are no waxy undertones, just smooth creaminess. I used to own Jungle Elephant 20-something years ago, but gave it away eventually since it reminded me too much of a Yankee tart. I got ecstatic when I found this recently, it's everything I wanted the Kenzo to be and more. It's also perfect for layering if you're into such heresy (jk I do it too) because it doesn't change scent profile through development. It does develop and change, but it starts and ends with warm spicy, smoky woodiness, so it goes well with soliflores, warm milky gourmands or herbal greens, there is very little chance that you accidentally overemphasize something in Re Nero.

This is fantastic! Whoever thinks it smells like Kenzo, forget about it. This beast has it's own crusade. It smells divine. What I didn't expect is how peaches are so well placed in here. I was expecting more dry composition based on the notes prior to sampling but it had stole my heart. For all of those who got disappointed with Tom Ford's bitter peach, try it. Worth every penny.

Peach with Cumin? Cardamom, Cinnamon, Vetiver? Does it work? If you like some of these notes and Chypres, I think you should reeeeally give this review a try. 😎 • Moresque’s bottles deserve a special review just for them. I’m saying that because in some of the main collections (Art Collection and Gold Collection) from the Italian house, each flagon is handcrafted. Exactly. Each one of them is unique! They are individually trimmed, painted, covered with golden leaves, silver leaves, copper leaves. Literally work of art. 🎨 From this kind of care you can imagine how masterfully they also craft their perfumes. I had the chance to smelling 11 fragrances from the house and I can tell you, in my humble opinion, that they are all masterpieces. All. Each one representing with uniqueness the most different perfumery genres. • Re Nero is a Chypre that I own and do love. But I promise you that I’ll try to remain the most objective I can. As soon as the perfume hits your skin, you feel a rich-warmy-dry-spicy and slightly fruity concoction. Cumin stands up as the main player since the beginning. And as much as it's a difficult note for some noses, blended with the Cardamom and the Cinnamon, both very noticeable in the fragrance, it reveals its most opulent facet. At least for my nose, not aggressive nor overwhelming at all. In fact, the opposite. But you DO have to like the Cumin note as the spices with the dry vibe in order to enjoy it. This dry vibe, by the way, comes from the Vetiver in the base. Here, it presents this woody-dry quality. The dryness and spices from Re Nero have a certain resemblance to Tobacco Oud. If you like this Tom Ford, there is a good chance you will like this perfume as well. Another remarkable note that is beautifully worked in the perfume is the Peach note. It’s not a juicy or jammy peach. 🍑 The nose behind it (I couldn’t find who) had the sensitivity of using this note preserving the concept of the fragrance. So it’s like a peach that wasn't opened or sliced. It is more like fruit subtly projecting its scent of the peel. Simply gorgeous. Only after 2-3 hours, my nose starts to identify a subtle smell of Vanille. It seems to me that Re Nero isn’t for everyone. In this way, it’s even an arrogant fragrance, I could say. (if it’s possible to say something like that from a fragrance. In a nutshell: It’s not crowd-pleasing and it seems that it's never wanted to be. • Re Nero is like a tent ⛺️ in the middle of the desert, with an yellow-colored Persian carpet inside strangely matching with a medieval western woody table, where someone wearing denim and a biker leather suede jacket reads a book after a spicy meal, felling the smell of peach invading the space with a light breeze through the window where is possible to see the peach tree.

Strong, sweet, oriental. Warm, but dry spices. On me, it leans to the feminine side, and no fruits are detectable. I love cumin in general, but I can't detect the cumin smell here, and I can't separate the cardamom either. It's a huge blast of sweet (I blame the vanilla) cinnamon on me with the drydown of sweet, oriental spicy/woody base. It has a tiny bit of bitterness in it, I don't know how, but I feel a bitter taste on my tongue when I'm wearing it. Sillage is enormous and longetivity is...like forever. :) Even though it's not my cup of tea, I like it, and can't wait to wear it in winter.
