Testing this blind straight from the ScentXplore bag, I did not look at the brand, fragrance name, or notes. This opened up musky and vanilla sweet but quickly morphed into a dark fruit element, with a bit of pungency. The resulting mix remained musky with a clear impression of a dark fruit character of blackberries and/or fig for a bit and there was a little bit of amber and some other woody elements, with citrus top notes becoming more apparent later on, but it primarily remains musky and dark fruit for the first 20 minutes. After that I got a far more gourmande air of anise or licorice. Dark, herby rich and not too sweet. Looking at the notes, I guess the incense and cardamom are the swirling factors along with the pink pepper and geranium that are giving me the impression of the dark fruit and licorice, while the amber and vanilla enrich it. Regardless, I quite like the dry down after the first 20 or so minutes. 12/3/22 update My mind kept coming back to this one so I picked up a bottle.

I got a 2 ml decant almost 2 years ago, and i didn't want to use it because i wanted to reserve it for a special occasion. Now that I have a couple of more options, i decide to use it a couple of days back to work, and boyyyy, i am in love. The only bad thing i can say is that i wish I had used it way way before. Every day is a special day, don't forget that. Creamy spicy cardamon in the oppening, then at the 30 minutes mark give or take, the incense comes to the picture. But it is a sweet, burnt woody incense. After that, the vanilla drydown. All mixed together, and you get a beautiful scent that you wish lasted forever. This is amazing. I read the resemblance with D&G The One EDP, and it's not wrong, mostly in the drydown. Soul Batik is a bit more spicy and lasts a lot more. 8 hours, and i can still smell in my arm. Cold weather essential, and in date nights, this will be a hit. Highly recommend to at least sample it.

Incense spice amber vanilla that sets close to my skin. I love the way this smells. I’m not expecting any compliments. I have nothing that smells anything like this... except my Outlands sample. Killians Intoxicated is a similar type of fragrance but doesn’t smell “like it”. I’ll have this for several years by only wearing in the Fall & Winter. The incense reminds me of my parents home when I was a preteen. Edit: Feb 2026 found a NEW discounted bottle from a private seller online 😍. This was not my planned next full bottle purchase. I’ve been wearing it 2 or 3 times a week knowing it will be warm soon. My sample seems more potent than my bottle. Batch code says my bottle is 3yrs 9mos old. It’s still tremendously nice and this arctic blast -0° F ❄️weather is perfect for it. I let a friend wear it. So I got to smell it in the air on someone else. 😍 OMG! So good

Ridiculously good cold weather amber, cardamom perfume for the price. It indeed has Kilian Intoxicated vibes but this one is warmer, sweeter, smoother, and way more mass applealing. It doesn't have any harsh notes (like toasted turkish coffee) like in Intoxicated. It is more gourmandy i must say. I also understand Layton, African Leather comparisons because of the clear felt vanilla and cardamom notes in Soul Batik. Blend quality is niche level and longevity and projection are very good. So if you like any of the aforementioned perfumes, you should try this one out. I got mine from a discounter for 65$ which I think is a steal. My score: 8.8/10

I really like this scent, as the person below me stated this is basically a spicy sweet cake, but I want to go a little further. Imagine a moist cake (vanilla + bergamot) with a spicy middle eastern frosting (cardamon + pink pepper + incense), If you’re worried about it being too sweet , don’t worry the incense balances it out. This is one the best fragrances I’ve ever smelled, but I only have one issue, projection. This projects on my skin (at max) for 1 hour, after that it sits closer to my skin. It last forever though so that’s a plus.

This is simply a masterpiece, Opens up sweet spicy cardamom and fresh citrus with not so sharp incense smell, the dry down is amazing, it smells like silky sweet smooth vanilla with floral notes behind it which is patchouli and geranium making it a unique scent. Almost smell like a cake and gourmandish with almost middle eastern blend into it. Its strong projection and performance, i got 8 hours on my skin and 2.5 hours of sillage. Such a lovely perfume.

Beautiful spicy cardamom and chocolate patchouli, with a vanilla incense Amber base. This is one of those cases where a niche house upgrades the designer version (A Men). Not saying it was intentional. This is better in every way, as the raw materials are higher quality and it doesn’t contain those rigid harsh edges like A men, it still has some of the sharp edges but it’s a lot smoother while still managing to stay crisp. Gorgeous bottle as well.

An incredible intriguing masterfully blended creation that opens with awarm spicy accord of amber, cardamon, incense, and pink pepper. It's a very beautiful, sexy, and sophisticated perfume that continues to morph as it dries down with hints of dried fruits and soft nuances. I can't stop smelling it on myself as I am totaly intrigued! My 3 P's - Projection 7/10 - Performance 8/10 - Price 10/10

First impression: The opening smells similar to Intoxicated. It doesn't smell like Layton to my nose, but they're both sexy and alluring. The projection is really good for the first couple of hours. Update 5/18/24: Longevity is above average. I’m getting something soapy from this (in a good way). Amazing fragrance!!!! Scent: 10/10 Projection: 8.5/10 Longevity: 9/10

Sweet, spicy, ambery and definitely masculine.The opening has some similarities with Layton and shortly after goes into a more spicy, cardamom, and clean patchouli dry down that smells very natural and stays on my skin for about 8 hours. Projection is slightly above moderate and it’s perfect for fall and winter. Overall a really solid blind purchase.

Gorgeous cardamom forward fragrance. Opens up spicy and warm/sweet, dries down to a cardamom, floral and slightly smoky amber fragrance, absolute stunner. The cardamom here smells similar to Intoxicated by Kilian, but only the cardamom. Totally unisex if you ask me. Definitely similar to A*Men, but this is cheaper.

This smells similar to Layton, but not close. This doesn't have the apple opening. It's smoother, and creamier like Werther's, while Layton is more like baking a desert. On my skin, it's strong and I'm constantly getting wafts. This comes across like a date night scent. It's lovely, and very seductive.

So nobody is gonna say this is almost Layton, more ethereal no menthol on the opening? This was my secret weapon for a while. I wish reviewers would just stick to hyping new fragrances, the hype put $40 on the price at discounters now.

This was a blind buy from the most recent Maxaroma BOGO sale. The Kilian Intoxicated comparison would be correct. I actually like this better. As someone else mentioned, it is a sweeter alternative. A perfect fall scent.

So no one sees the striking resemblance to Paris Corner EMIR You're Drugged. Gotta be the same type of Cardamom used. But there's more ambery sweetness & smoke in this one. I've been sleeping on this in my collection.

I saw this being compared to By Kilian's Intoxicated and yes, they smell very similar - Probably the closest comparison. I prefer Soul Batik because it is slightly sweeter and more ambery than Intoxicated. Love it.

Spicy, ambery, incensy vanilla - not groundbreaking, but really pleasant. Reminds me of Intoxicated, but not that thick and cloying. Wearable, good longevity and sillage. Unisex.

What stands out the most to me is the gorgeous and realistic cardamom note in Soul Batik. In general, the spicy accords are very well done and they are at their best at the beginning and middle stages of the fragrance. The dry down is my least favorite stage because I now mostly perceive a dry amber note that even leans a bit masculine to my nose. I am generally not a fan of dry fragrances and I prefer amber fragrances that are on the sweeter and juicier side. However, I can imagine that lovers of dry amber would appreciate this fragrance.

Luxurious amber spicy scent with a bit smoky note. Actually reminds me of custom national soul. Not exactly but it is in the same Genre.

I love the overall vibe on this one. Mature, warm, earthy. Almost perfect. The only downside is it doesn't stick around long enough.

Yes, this is similar to Muller Angel Men, especially in the mid and drydown phases, only different in the opening.

#1395 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is almost an identical scent to Jeroboam "Ambra" and costs roughly the same, though with this you get a beautiful bottle. I don't buy for the container, I buy for what's in it, and in this case, less than I had hoped. I broke my own rule and blind bought a bottle of this based on prior good experience with Moresque "Aurum", but comparatively I found the sillage and potency a disappointment, very much at an EDT level. Massively overspraying, even spraying my shirt didn't help much. Negligible sillage, mild skin scent in an hour. It reminds me of Givenchy "Pi" one of the best scents Givenchy ever made that for some reason they never gave us what that scent cried out for, EDP and even extrait potency, enough oils to at least make it through the morning. And that is the problem I have with this admittedly very nice, amber-vanilla scent. It's just unassertive for a fragrance in a category where bombast is the norm, and in a market with a dozen $20 all-day longevity amber-vanilla bombs to choose from. You basically have to bathe in this stuff and soak your clothing with it to pick up any of the incense note, which is the note I chose this for. No one should pay $100 for this. If you're already loaded up with amber-vanilla clones like "Suits", "Rifaqaat" and "Ebene", and you like this "Layton"-leaning vibe, but don't want to go as fruity as a Gisada "Ambassador Intense", I think you'd be happy with Maison Alhambra's "Leyden" (I know I am) which you can get for under $25, and that one does make it to lunch.

Has this weird baby wipe quality that i smelt on African leather as well. Cant put my finger on what makes that smell

I can only fathom that this creation represents Indonesian silk. If I had color synesthesia or had to relate texture so smells, I could very well see the typical colors and patterns used in Batik creations. Warm earthy tones such as browns, rust, various shades of tan and auburn. Without hesitation, I was immediately put in the mind of Kilian's Intoxicated. Yes! The rumors are true! I almost couldn't tell them apart. In a past review, I recall referring to Intoxicated as a "niche Angel A*Men Pure Coffee". Soul Batik could very well be referred to as "niche Angel A*Men", but there's more magic bestowed from perfumer, Andrea Casotti. It's deeper, darker, much more mysterious and quite addictive I should add. I found myself constantly wanting to smell the back of my hand, although I could smell Soul Batik clearly with my hands by my side. That should answer any questions you have about projection. I enjoy this fragrance and perhaps more than Intoxicated, but astounded that there is not a single note of coffee listed. Heavy on the cardamom, with incense finely blended into the ensemble of vanilla, amber and patchouli. I own both unregretfully, but would likely replace an empty bottle of Soul Batik opposed to Intoxicated.

One of my absolute favourites of all times. Smells like a spicy sweet cake to me. The cardamom, vanilla and pink pepper comes through kinda cake ish to me. Actually thinking about it, it smells like when grandma made cozonac back in Romania. It’s such a warming cozy scent, that really takes me back to my childhood. One of the very few 10/10 scents I’ve smelled throughout my life. I’m down to less than half of my 75ml bottle and I’m definitely gonna buy a second one, once this one is empty. The scent can work for anyone, no matter age or gender. I do believe it’s leaning a bit masculine cause of the incense though, but I wouldn’t mind smelling this on a woman at all. Definitely a winter/fall/ early spring fragrance. The performance is great. I easily get 10+ hours of sweet spicy goodness. If you haven’t tried this and you like to smell like a spicy sweet cake, 100% go smell this!

I 1000000% agree with axelsniff86!!! Double that review. My God this smells AMAZING!!! Hey I know these reviews are opinions, but my God I am a finicky guy going through 1 ml samples like crazy as a hobby. Waiting for something to stop me in my tracks and this fragrance did! On a test strip it smells really good and then I put it on the back of my hand I can't stop smelling this. Holy s#@t!! Listen up. If you remember Obsession for Men back in the 90s and you graduated to today's Grand Soir....PLEASE try this. Smh. I am without words on this one as far as trying to figure out sillage and scent and longevity. I got to wear this on my neck for the next two to three days and come back here. But I'm telling you straight up it don't matter, this is a great one. Definitely worth a buy.

Moresque was always so inviting to me, and the Secret Collection is really something to admire.. my favorite is the one called Soul Batik. Oh wow - this one smells expensive and luxurious in the best possible way! In the top you have some slight bitterness but the wonder lies in the heart and in the base; vanilla and amber mixes with gorgeous incense and cardamom; with hints of pepper. This is honestly one of the best, deep and rich incense scents I have ever smelled. I have Roja’s Oman which is a beautiful frankincense scent, it is cold and piercing, this one is a different take on incense; its deepened to such a dense sweetness which I enjoy wholeheartedly. I will for sure get a bottle of this - this will be just amazing to smell in the winter months. ♥️

The perfume is spicy, incense, amber, balsamic, which opens with a brief citrus exit, spicy by a cutting bergamot and cardamom, very striking. And that are wrapped with a live pepper, geranium and frankincense that add a bright and fresh contrast with a rich and sensual base of patchouli and vanilla. And on this basis is where the soul of the composition exudes and rests on a warm, striking, mysterious and enveloping amber that dominates the perfume from the middle to its dry down. A dry warm perfume contrasting between warmth and freshness, excellent and delicious super ambery fragrance slightly incensed and arabesque.

It's basically almost African Leather by Memo Paris. The beginning is almost a 1:1. The drydown changes a bit. Soul Batik is a bit sweeter, more round, with the sweetness of vanilla and more pronounced amber accord. African Leather is a bit more spicer, without the vanilla and less ambery. If you want the sweet of the vanilla go Soul Batik if you want a bit more oomph go African Leather. Also very similar to The One by D&G. You're welcome.

Holy hell... Me like this. Obscure ancient dessert, smells like a wet dream. If you really want, you can argue there's a very passing, slight resemblance to A*men and Intoxicated that it's not even worth mentioning. This smells higher quality than either and I'm a bit of an A*men fanboy and this DNA is entirely its own thing. I'd describe this as a mystical amber from another realm. Great secret weapon for dates.

Dry amber.. It only mimics intoxicated for 10 minutes. That’s it. It’s not intoxicated. Not a blind buy safe option. Test first.. my female significant other did not like it at all.. Performance is good as skin scent but it does not push out.. 2 hours in no one will smell you unless they are within 2 inches of where you applied it.. Good for $50-60 max

As someone mentioned below, the opening smells almost identical to Layton, minus a note here and there. If you already have Layton, then sample first. Not a clone, but same ballpark! Just like Layton, the dry-down is quite alluring.

I cant place the notes in this yet.will have to come back and edit this after I have given it a full wear. but this is a unique scent. And I think seta, soul batik and ubar 1992 are quite unique in this secret collection.

I wore Killian Intoxicated - my date: “you smell like Thierry Mugler”. I wore Soul Batik - my date: “you smell like Angel”. Unless you are focused on the quality of materials, save your money. Buy A-Men.

This opens with a similar scent as Layton and drys down to a patchouli/incense dominant A*Men variation. It's just ok.
