Briar

This is my favourite Moro Dabron scent, somewhat to my surprise, since I don't normally gravitate towards florals. Like the other fragrances in the line, it has a cool and calming monastic flavor: I imagine a bouquet of fresh, dewy garden roses displayed in a simple vase in the shaded stone hallway of an abbey. You also get a hint of vase water that's green and stemmy but also a tiny bit earthy and brackish (but pleasantly so!), as if someone had put new flowers in the vase without changing the water. Maybe some wilted petals are scattered around. As the drydown develops, the feeling of cool stone becomes an ever-so-slightly smoky incense note, subtle, bright, and a tiny bit citric from the elemi, with accents of pepper and cedar. Unlike Rose 31, which pushes the woody/incense/spice facets harder (the incense is more brûlé, the cumin makes it a little funky), Briar keeps the focus on the flower, the beautiful simplicity of the rose petal and stem. Like Aesop's Rozu, you get a sense of the whole life cycle of the plant (soil, seed, leaf, bloom, decay), but again, Briar is more focused: it's not messing around with a lot of accent florals or base notes, or with the waxy/powdery cosmetic notes you often get along with rose in vintage perfumery. It's just a photorealistic flower in a specific setting (quiet stone architecture), and it's one of the nicest roses I've tried.

Briar reminds me of Rive Gauche. That's the only way to describe it. IYKYK. Not at all a terrible scent but I could just buy Rive Gauche if I wanted to smell like this.

Resinous rose combined with bark or coniferous twigs of cedar and bay leaf, cool, with a hint of alcohol.
