Nocturne

Imagine two souls, holding each other, talking into the wee hours of the night, each realizing that they are connecting with the other on a deeper level—the two are on the same wavelength. Dopamine and oxytocin saturate the minds, and past midnight it is clear that are two open books, two open hearts. The awareness of this elicits a pang of uncertainty: is this real, and if it is, will it last? We may have bonds such as this only a few instances in our lifetime, and the intensity is often a result of such intimacy. Now imagine how scent may play a role in this enduring imprint. Nocturne is a scent that I imagine would be part of this imprint, one that is not intended to be an instrument of seduction, but rather, to be discovered in times of closeness, when sparks fly, tenderness is shared, and souls are bared. There is something so intimate about the dry, coniferous warmth of the frankincense resin merging with soft, earthy carrot seed. Then, we have the slight perspiration of anticipation through a smidgeon of cumin, the spark of some black pepper, and an enduring sandalwood and patchouli skin scent. It is a scent for memory-making.

Writing this from memory after smelling it yesterday. It really reminded me of Eidesis from Aesop, which is a personal favorite of mine. It's got that same mildly sweet incense paired with a sparkling fresh petigrain, drying down to a resinous wood and mild cumin note that's really nice. It's a not as creamy and musky as Eidesis, but it's still charming. It feels a bit quieter, but denser and earthier in the drydown. Might have to go back and give it a full wear. The others I sniffed from the brand were also good.
