Enter the Void

An energetic and uplifting grapefruit meets something animalic, which I can't describe with any other words than just animalic , or more accurately somewhat dirty animalic . I know it doesn't sound very nice, but it is. The smell of skin. Seems horrible, I know! Still, it is as review below already mentioned, surprisingly nice. It rests on an ever so slightly sweet and stable base of sandalwood, but you don't really detect it, it's just a supporting role. The main narrative is about the grapefruit meeting the animalic, musky, and skin notes. If you know your Buxton, this has Buxton written all over it. The composition is truly artistic, unique and masterful. It's clearly not for everyone. It's not mass appealing, but somehow it still has some strange kind of appeal . I let a friend try this, who has no experience of perfume whatsoever, and the response was clearly positive 'I could wear this'. It was one of the first niche perfumes I ever experienced, and this is still, in my opinion, one of the finest niche-perfumes I know. Niche is a word that is thrown around way too lightly these days, but this is without any hesitation niche in the best sense – it's something unique, but still very alluring, and above all very intriguing.

My first whiff of this brought immediately to mind a very specific aroma - chestnut flowers - which are pretty common in Japan so it did touch on the name a bit. It does have an animalic note, though not a musky one. Chestnut flowers are one of those things that many find smell like... how do I put this in a family-friendly way? Well... like male, er, "emissions" I guess. It's a slightly alkaline note that causes the association. As it dries down that aroma integrates itself into the whole - now there's citrus, grapefruit yes, but not tart - that alkaline, along with the vanilla note of the amber, tames it, the way the vanilla in a Creamsicle reins in the orange. (Mind, do not take that to mean this smells like a Creamsicle) Despite the perfumer's description, I don't find it "dark" at all. There's definitely something sexy and sensual about it, though in an atypical way - not the usual heavy musk and gourmand mix that makes you think "guy in a classic tuxedo" - to my nose, it's more playful sexy, like showering together after a silly nooner you're both still giggling about.

It’s a deep and introspective fragrance, but I'm getting from it notes of biscuits, coffee with cream, and maybe a hint of cardamom. I don’t know why!

Alright, there, I’m typing this as I dive into the fragrance abyss... let’s call it a live confession – LOL – So, here we go, no turning back. Sprayed it on the skin... well, it’s a challenge... like, why not, right? The crafting smells a bit antoinelie-esque, but – hold on – transitioning ain’t exactly smooth (supposed to be like that, maybe?). The star of the show might be the immortelle. Anything else? A hot mess of rotten this, rotten that, rotten everything: it’s like my nose stumbled into a flower graveyard (where someone emptied ashtrays full of cigarettes). Skin-scent alert: this ain’t shouting from the rooftops. Now, the lightbulb moment... I get it... the movie Enter the Void fits like a glove, for this fragrance is on some otherworldly trip. Feels kinda like a prototype (I know it’s not, but bear with me), like someone forgot to add or remove a thing or two. The green and flower mashup is wild, but it’s not mother nature’s hug, no, no... it’s more like a prelude to floral demise. Not gonna lie, not unpleasant, not a fragrance crime, nevertheless it feels a bit like it’s missing a few pages. Thank the perfume gods for the musk finale: that part is a legit original act. Good job overall, especially for the concept; it would have been great(er) if it was a scream instead of a whisper (it’s like this fragrance is afraid to be beautiful and original).

It smells surprisingly nice. I never wore it, but my male friend loves it. Or, rather, he said, he loved it before COVID, now his sense of smell is reduced, so he just keeps wearing this, keeps purchasing the perfume. To simplify, it smells like leathery flowers. It doesn't have any stink, it seems simply pleasant. I had an opportunity to smell it on the bottle cap (that is, not on a person, but just as it is), and it seems rather different, it seems more heavy leathery than it seems on a person (a blotter test is definitely not the way to get acquainted with this perfume). It is a tiny bit spicy, but not warm, nor cold. It feels very neutral. A bit fresh, and a tiny bit soapy. To me it seems a year-round "signature" perfume. These "animalistic" notes are there, but I find them mostly leathery, not pissy. To sum it up, this is a seemingly weird, but in reality a very balanced composition. It's definitely unisex, leaning masculine, but not too much. If you don't overdo it, it is definitely suitable for office environments, strangely enough. I don't think it's a perfect blind buy, but, in my opinion, this can even be a present to somebody (after a try-on, maybe?). I recommend you try it if my description makes it interesting to you.

The strangest and most inexplicable niche perfume I've ever tried. Firstly, it smells different every time, never the same. It's a kaleidoscope – you can't repeat a picture once it's been created. Absolutely abstract. So trying to find similar ones is a completely pointless exercise. Sometimes it smells edible, sometimes synthetic, sometimes pleasantly warm and "bodily", sometimes disgusting. I liked the part where it smelled of nori sheets and baby skin mixed together. It was quiet and very strangely pleasant and calming. I think I need at least a miniature to train my brain and nose.

Sour gummy peach rings mixed with sweat and skin and smoke. This evokes a sense of childlike wonder foiled by the sensuality of skin scent. Uniquely musky and the peach ring quality never really faded for me. Did a great job of channelling the Gaspar Noe movie for me, but this is nowhere near trippy enough LOL. Feels like a Tokyo strip club. But the fragrance isn't as dark as the source material or how it was written to be. An interesting experience though.

This seems to smell entirely different to everyone who smells it, and I think that is beautifully artistic on its own. For me I definitely get a strong animalic musk, with a touch of herbal and very, very distant citruses. I don’t think I’ll get a full size for now, but I like it, it’s very unique and hard to describe

at first they're quite herbal and a bit spicy but then they turn into a sweeter animalic and musky scent. i'd say they're pretty inoffensive while still being unique

modern and lively fragrance, masculine leaning, I feel like it’s a perfect match for unisex/baggy clothes with a hint of 90s

This is probably what a temple in the Legend of Zelda would smell like. The scent is very sweet, but also musky and woodsy.

Definitely unique. On paper it's quite pleasant, on my skin it's absolutely disgusting. All I can smell is skunk, pungent urine, vomit and rotten bodies (not that I know how the latter smells like). Ok there's a hint of citrus too. I thought I was experimental enough, but apparently not.

This is a truly weird perfume... to me it smells like opening a fresh pack of cigarettes, but they are stale and dried out. There is a slight maple note for me, and I do get a bit of dirty hair costus. I get zero fruit, aldehydes, and so on. I’m not sure when I would choose to wear something like this or how it smells to others (my husband says grapefruit, I don’t smell that at all), but it is a really fun one to test and like nothing I’ve smelled before.

You were just looking to get high, but now you're lying on the toilet, bleeding out from a gunshot wound, about to enter the afterlife. With a colorful composition made up of urine and cannabis accords, this fragrance really captures the bathroom scene of Gaspar Noe's "Enter the Void." Like watching the film itself, the fragrance is a dizzying, overwhelming, almost nauseating experience, where you can't tell whether it's trashy or kind of beautiful.

It’s perfect: mellow and clear poison. Can’t really connect it to the movie. Maybe that dmt scene, but not quite as trippy. And I wish there was a bit more cannabis smell to it too. It’s original for sure and wearable at the same time

Slightly berry-like maybe, but mostly a very bitter black rubber-type note that's tough to get around. I liked the movie, but would not want to wear it (nor be around someone who does).

ay yi yi this is photorealistic fruit!! first sniff hit me like I just blew a line. Haven’t had such a visceral reaction to a fragrance in awhile, also very wearable IMO
