The Colour of Pomegranate

I put some of this perfume on, then watched the movie it was inspired by. A little bit of context--this perfume was inspired by the film: "The Colour of Pomegranates." The perfume smells like this: Tart pomegranate seeds bursting in your mouth. Black currant ripped up from the root with the green parts dangling. Glowing peppery incense and sandalwood embers. The scent of a white rose crafted from paper--from the pages of a book. Sometimes I detect something that smells like dried human saliva or sweaty hair. The overall scent does bring to mind the deep red of a pomegranate. The primary notes on my skin are: pepper, incense, holy woods, and tart red fruit. It smells passionate from the "red" notes of spices and pomegranate. And somewhat violent, like sanguine fluids spilling, pomegranates soaking cloth, and berries smashed for wine (these are also images from the movie). This fragrance is really successful at capturing the feeling of the movie, but in a way that is cohesive and wearable, so I was in awe. The perfume faded away just as the movie ended. It was like Smell-o-vision, or 3D glasses for my nose. Here are some lines from my favorite scene (it's about a half hour into the movie): "You are fire. You are dressed in fire.../ You are fire. You are dressed in black. Which fire can I withstand?"

The most "normal" out of my Moth and Rabbit perfumes, it is a little maudlin, a little dark, and altogether beautiful. The pomegranate presents itself as a pomegranate and black pepper soap, so the note is not bitter, just quietly fruity and clean, soapy. Thankfully, the citrus is practically invisible, the notes that really shine are rose, natural, with dirt on the roots, velvety, sad, and incense, elevating the scent to a religious degree without being churchy. To me it's the best in winter, with a snowy background, but it could be a lovely evening scent in any season.

this is sooo good. i love the tart, tangy pomegranate and soap accord that flirt with each other. i especially love wearing this on windy spring days and layering it with margiela’s “bubble bath” or anything with a rich, honeyed composition, but it’s great on its own too. this is what persephone smells like when she’s allowed to return to earth from hades every spring

I absolutely love this scent. It's tangy and sweet, complex with resins and green spice without being heavy. But it fades so so quickly on my skin. After 10 minutes it pulls back to a resinous musky rose, and after an hour and change it leaves my skin entirely. I just can't justify getting it at its current price point.

If you like The Soft Lawn by Imaginary Authors, you'll probably love this aswell! Soapy but there's a super noticeable fruity smell which makes this scent suitable for younger women like myself

I enjoy the drydown so much. Sour pomegranate, black currant on a very noticeable background of soap. Something unusual, original, but that all works very well together. The opening is more sharp, very soapy actually. Like Marseille soap. But it fades away to reveal the fruit ... I can notice a bit of incense there, it add some mystery to this one. I think I want it :) That will be a fantastic end of Summer-Fall fragrance.

I got this as a (very generous) sample when I bought a different moth and rabbit perfume. It’s a really good fruity day scent, with a strong pepper and incense note. I don’t personally get the soap note, but that may just be me. It’s complex but quite light, which is different from my other perfumes.

All incense at first, then a sour fruitiness emerges, I did not recognize it as pomegranate without being told. Great tip on the movie, I will check out.

Buxton going back to the well of one of his all-time greats, CdG White. I almost thought this was a slightly watered down rebottling on first sniff. Pomegranate, rose, black pepper, baking spices... this is so late-90s Buxton that maybe he forgot he made White and made it again. Okay, maybe the florals are a little bit more present, the spices dialed back just a hint. And there’s a soapiness that wasn’t present in CdGW. But the DNA is very much the same. I couldn’t possibly see any reason to own both, so I’ll stick with the old masterpiece.

as rich, complex, and hypnotizing as the film. i was expecting this to be more pomegranate/floral heavy, but the incense and wood dominating makes sense. we can only imagine what scents poet sayat-nova encountered as he lived and died in the monastery every day. some things are unknowable
